    Replace the steel brake lines for copper lines, they will never rust again!

      i think TUV dont like them..

    • @kubasorama
      @kubasorama 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nextzz2583 I guess only for the more modern cars equipped with ABS due to considerably higher pressure in the lines, comparing to older cars. As far as I know it started with manufacturer technical note for Fiat Stilo which explicitly forbidded using copper brake lines due to possible tear caused by high pressure and followed by that, TUV technicians has started to give negatives for ABS equipped cars with copper brake lines. Of course it is worth to check what are the regulations regarding this in Belgium, but from technical point of view I doubt if this is a problem for e28.

      Mine rusted through so made new ones from nickel copper and I also replaced my fuel lines. I have the same issue with my subframe mounting points. Unfortunately both sides have cracks and holes in spots so I'm nervous on how I'm going to fix them lol. Great video

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@nextzz2583 you can always use heat shrink tubes to cover copper lines. Thats what we do. It also looks more eyepleasing overtime. Because copper lines tend to get green over time. heat shrink tubes prevent that. #ProTips

    When I do brake lines I use what we call Kunifer line here in the UK. Its a copper nickel alloy. It's more corrosion resistant and stronger than the copper alloy and easier to work with than steel line. I hate doing brake lines - but you might as well replace the lot. I'm surprised it has any original lines at that age.

      Got mine made up by automec in UK but to lengths I requested, the bmw parts info does actually give the lengths needed.

    Some great work on this car, I'm sure the work you have done will keep it running for another 35 years. I've really enjoyed following it, well done..
    Just FYI please be aware you must be careful with polyurethane rear trailing arm bushes as they do not allow the lateral movement that is required of the arm through suspension travel. I know people who have fitted these which has resulted in badly damaged bushes, failure of overstressed pitman arm links and have even bent the tabs that the trailing arms mount to on the subframe. I purposely stayed with OEM rear trailing arm bushes on my E34, but I did use the yellow subframe mounts.

  • @nazgul2790
    @nazgul2790 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The cheapest way to replace brake lines is to bend them around a socket wrench. I did just that and didn't kink them once. It is also easier if you buy the correct length from the beginning, with the nipples already installed. Saves a bunch of time and makes it easier! Great Video!

    • @barrythompson
      @barrythompson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I found poly bushes a disaster for rear subframe, used heavy duty melye ones in end, the poly bushes that made a big improvement were the ones in the front upper suspension arms, original ones don't last long before vibration on braking can happen in my experience on my e28s I've had.

    You should inspect the inside of your rocker panel at the edge. Especialy at passenger side it looks like there is quite some rust hidden under the underbody coating.
    Is coating break and fuel lines allowed in Belgium? In Germany you would fail on inspection.

Heb nog tectyl spray staan en blanke lak. Zou je adviseren eerst stone chip/tectyl te spuiten en dat af te lakken? Of tectyl na blanke lak erop? Of juist gewoon aflakken en klaar.

    Great videos :) I have one tip:
    17:00 the Subframe is surely not tightened with the correct torque. The moment you did stop and then start again you did not have sliding friction as a restitance but static friction. You have to tighten it in one smooth motion in order to get the right torque. That's also the reason why "clicking" the torque wrench afterwards is actually bullshit. It won't tell you if you have the correct torque.
    Static friction is also one of the main reasons why you need more torque to unscrew a bolt than to tighten it.
