Wow! The E28 looks like new. Honestly, I think you’re some kind of genius. You must have the patience of a saint to get the results you do. Every one of your videos is essential viewing 👏👍🏆
This E28 gets better with every single episode! The hard work Memphis is paying off, the car is absolutely stunning! Cannot wait until the next episode :)
Also head light glass can be cleaned inside with a little cotton to be like cristal glass. I' ve done before and it's works. You are doing a great job !!!
@@memphis5220 I would say yes, I had an e30 and the glass was glued, the best way I found out was to boil them. Start with cold water and let it warm up slowly until at some point the glue is soft enough just to pull the glass apart.
You could also pour some birdsand (really fine and dry) and shake until the foggyness dissapears. Pour the sand out and you will have them look like new👍🏻
@@memphis5220 hello , you don't need move the lense, just remove the lamp and carefully clean it with little piece of cotton . Just take care with chrome around, don' t touch it. Don't use products...just a few water to remove dust and dry it when finish.
I am very happy to see another E28 episode. I just got one myself and will benefit a lot from your episodes. I particularly like your meticulous approach. My car’s engine bay is also dirty so I look forward to the next episode! Thank you.
A little tip for the seam sealing in 11:00 and onwards: If you put down some painters tape you have no problems with smearing the seam sealer. As soon as it gets a little tacky, you can remove the tape and have perfect lines :)
also if you wish to make the seam even better, before smoothing, put a finger in a very soapy water (i am using a general dish washer). Then it is easier to even out the sealer.
This takes me back to my youth when I had a 1972 Opel GT and a 1984 Golf/Rabbit. I loved working on them both! I have also had a BMW 325. Love this channel, Memphis!
I had a 1988 528e aka E28, it was the same color, too. In the US the ‘88 528e was a one year only regarding timing belt. All before and after were timing chain. I regret not having the belt changed the day I bought it. 6 weeks later, on the way to the mechanics to have it done, it snapped, bent valves, ripped one valve head off, and board a hole through the piston. Sad to say it went to the crusher. I miss that car, but I’m glad to see you making yours all happy again.
Remember when you started these videos with this car in that glorified shed. Mate you have come along way and I am so please this BMW is receiving so much love! Looks brand new at the front!!!
Great job, Memphis. That looks amazing. I have used spray on rubber stone guard before, and the texture I got was very close to that factory finish. I have used on hidden areas that are subject to stone damage. I have also used it on surface areas that had been coated at the factory, such as the lower wings behind the wheel wells on a 79 Ford Thunderbird. I have also used it to create a barrier between dissimilar metals to prevent a galvanic response, such as under metal trim. For that, I outline the trim in chalk, lightly sand the area under the trim, spray that area with the stone guard. After there is a good couple of coats, I prime over the stone guard, then paint on top of that. By the time the trim is back on, the stone guard is invisible. The neat thing is that the rust stays so invisible it simply does not return. The results are almost magical. This has proven itself on my daily driver, my 607,000 km 1990 Volvo 240 DL Estate. There is zero rust under the trim after 31 of our snowy, salt-laden winters. I can't wait to see the rest of the project. I also cannot wait to get going on the restoration of my old Volvo before it goes on an 11,000 kilometer trip to visit my brother followed by a 5,200 km drive to Belize where I plan to retire.
This is the best approach, from a project perspective. Tear down one part, do it, then move to the next part. For example then do one wheel arch, then the other, then the engine bay. And it also spreads the cost, while you maintain the car functional. What most people do is they tear down the entire car, then the whole task overwhelms then, costs start piling up, and eventually the car never gets done.
Really enjoyed this video, the editing, narration and general production quality was excellent which matches the workmanship on the E28, wow the results are amazing, it's taken several years off it. This brings back memories of when I did exactly all of this on my 525e about 20 years ago. Everything is logical and straight forward to rejuvenate and comes up great. Very systematic approach by Memphis. That engine sounded very sweet and healthy as he pulled the car out. Really looking forward to the engine bay detailing and the timing belt, camshaft and crankshaft end seal replacement episode.
Great end result! Car looks almost new on camera. I appreciate the demo on the plastic rejuvenator, the only thing like it I’ve ever used is Armor-all. I’ll bet it’s fun to drive too. I’ve driven one myself and really enjoyed it; New car, dealer to dealer exchange at night. A worthwhile project car. 👍🏽👍🏽 I’ll be interested to see it with a cleaned up engine bay when you have time to do it.
Super goof to watch you, how you rock it. Thanks for that. Reg the blind (glass) frontlights, you can fill them with COREGA TABS and water, and leave it overnight. Then empty and flush with de-mineralized water and let it dry.. They ll be clear again.

Thank you. Polytrol looks like an awesome trim restorer. You do great work mate - keep it up!! A lot more work than planned but its a fantastic result.
Goedenavond! Great follow up to the initial 'tear down and prep' video. I have 3 cars to repair and this gives me the impetus to get them done. Awesome results on the E28 and I would be extremely pleased if my repairs look half as good. Keep the videos coming and I look forward to sharing the 100k subscribers achievement with you soon!
Thanks for your advice about polytrol- never heard of that before and after watching you I have just ordered a can. You definitely deserv some commision from them🤓
Perfect job again ! I'm very happy when see new video is uploaded here! Just one notice from me, for the front end of the cars use a real paint (compresor and spray gun means, because i saw you can use it ! ) because the front of the cars accepts damage from the road and the paint from spray is a lot weak , i made the same thing and after one drive on the highway i realize my mistake :) Best regards !
I really appreciate your dedication and especially the way you shape your stories. I am just waiting for the next one! You can finish the seam sealer with a flat painting brush (not with the finger) for a very close OEM look. Greetings from Germany!
You did a fantastic job! I am also a German auto mechanic by trade, and I think you nailed it. The only thing I noticed that you could have done was clean the inside of the headlamp lenses.
Hi Memphis. You can also switch the long gasket lip on the hood, it is still available and not that expensive. Well done and regards from a german E28 brother 👍
@Memphis: 3M produces a label adhesive remover that is very effective in penetration and removing adhesives from any surface. I believe it’s base chemical component is a terpene derivative. It is an environmentally safe solvent used in in a variety of industrial and non-industrial applications.
memphis, i am enjoying your videos. you are developing good technical skills, but you have a natural talent for story-telling. ive restored two dozen classic cars in the past 25 years ( 3x your age) and ive had several bmws including two im working on right now (87 e30 and 87 e28) i want to offer you some things to try... when you are overspraying the stone guard - ive watched closely andbnb you are Very close to the surface when spraying. the manufacturers recommend twice that distance and there is a reason. when you spray three things are coming out the nozzle propellant, solvent, and pigment. if you try backing off to over more like 18 inches, you will get both a finer spray, but also in that distance the solvent and propellant will volatilize and the only thing hitting the undercoating will be pigment. try this, and see if your problems w damaging the undercoating cease. its very easy to get close and aggressive.. painting bare metal this would not be as much trouble. but its the loading of the solvent and propellent in the dense close spray thats likely causing your troubles. experiment on spare fender. spray several patches of undercoating... allow to dry and cure - that means more that 2 days in fair weather... much longer in cool damp weather. Then test spray sections at different ranges. youll find how far away you need to get to improve texture and avoid under damage (i learned this on my 69 Porsche 911 restoration) also. ive used Polytrol for a long time. in my home in the US Midwest, ive gone over 5 years without having to retreat - i think in Belgium you will be fine for much longer. good luck, and, well done. cheers! Is ook het mooiste en een restauratie, het weer opbouwen van alle componenten en de auto onder je handen te zien groeien ! Veel succes met de verdere aanpak kan ik je wensen en graag tot de volgende episode !
