- this past weekend tiktok and livexlive held an “online music festival” 48 hour livestream to benefit the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund! they asked me to be a part of it, so i did this lil “performance” of me in my living room trying to make a beat using the nintendo switch and labo piano. anyways luckily i saved it and i’m posting it here for the people who missed the stream on tiktok!!

thats a 100x harder than this. labo was meant for music creation (albeit much more rudimentary than a dedicated midi controller), while the guitar hero controller was never meant to play anything like dark souls

If someone could please let me know how exactly he's connected his switch to his laptop to record in ableton or how he made the joycons into midi controllers I would GREATLY appreciate it!! I see the aux cord coming out of the switch but can't tell if the aux cord is being sent to an audio interface or the laptop itself. Also I know the joycons are bluetooth but in my (admittedly quick and certainly not thorough) google searches I was getting some conflicting info regarding the bluetooth capabilities of the joycons and whether they can just simply sync to a laptop or if some kind of third party software or something along those lines is also required for them to be used as controllers in your daw of choice. This was a mind blowing video as I had never even contemplated the possibilities of using the switch or its controllers (and ESPECIALLY that flippin' hunk of cardboard) in the context music production and this has super inspired me to try and get more creative and outside the box in regards to how I approach recording and sound design. So if anyone has any info on how this is all gets hooked up and any additional set up potentially required that would be super awesome and appreciated!! .... Also as a huge fighting game fan who has custom built several arcade sticks, the love and appreciation I have for that midi controller with the sanwa arcade buttons is indescribable and I am literally obligated to now save up the money to get myself one of those.

For the switch itself, it seems like he just connected it using the headphone jack.
Looks like he just ran a 3.5mm cable from the heaphone jack of the switch, to possibly the line in jack on an audio interface. From there the audio interface connects to the computer via USB and is recognized by his recording software as a an audio source that can be recorded.

It's called a Midi Fighter 64! They're a lot of fun to mess around with, but kinda expensive. $500 for a 8x8 pad, and $219 for a 4x4. Have fun experimenting!
