    If you do get this to market - consider making a version with this exact aesthetic - the white on pastel green, the no labels, the keyboard that looks like claymation. It just looks like something that wants you to play with it.

    4:37 made me tear up with Don't Go Changing. My first instrument was a Yamaha PSS170, purchased by my late grandparents, which had that as the demo song. Countless hours trying to learn Super Mario World songs at 5 years old on the warmth of their living room carpet; grandfather smoking his pipe, listening to Paul Harvey on his transistor, grandmother sipping cherry coke from a can through a striped straw & flipping through a Danielle Steel novel, their voices and living noises still faintly in my head. That's like saying you haven't written that novel you've always wanted to write cause you don't have a 1000 dollar keyboard. If you START with something like this, you won't get far unless you're some musical prodigy that has an understanding of music without any experience with any instruments or music theory.

    • @jeremiahtablet
      @jeremiahtablet 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@churlbreak671 A better example would be someone saying they haven't written a novel because they don't have access to a word processing software or to a keyboard to begin with, instead of writing by hand. This *is* an instrument. Just like a guitar or a keyboard has their own use case, this one has its. Just because you can't play chords on a trumpet doesn't make it any less an instrument, and just because you can't play individual notes on this doesn't make it any less an instrument. And what *does* help people get far in music is an inviting open attitude to people who want to learn. *NOT* a gatekeeping and antagonistic attitude that tries (and fails) to dictate who is and isn't able to "get far." Radiohead, one of the biggest bands of the current time, who has, by pretty much any music critic's account, "gotten far" with their music, includes folks who never studied music formally, and the main writer/composer for the group, Thom Yorke, doesn't even know how to read sheet music, let alone have great experience with music theory. It ain't about theory or which instrument you use that makes a good musician. It's about having the ability to learn and grow, and having the willingness to say "this is cool, let me try it." Which, by what it sounds like, is what this instrument is literally made for. To encourage that. Which would, directly, encourage people to become better musicians by helping them learn and grow and develop that willingness. There are countless people who learn an instrument or that learn theory. There are way less people who actually try to be open to new stuff and find that stuff interesting and cool to try, rather than just closing themself off and capping their growth out by stickin' with what they know. Those that do stay open and try new stuff are the ones who make it further than grumpy and closeminded musicians. It's one of the reasons that people like the artist formerly known as Prince who regularly invited other acts to be the spotlight and leading voices did get far and touched more lives and is considered such a great musician.

    • @churlbreak671
      @churlbreak671 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@jeremiahtablet Talk about antagonistic attitude, yet here you are assuming my entire existence based on one comment. I'm literally what ur describing my guy. I had no formal training in my developmental years, so much so that as a bachelors of music degree holder, i can't wrap my mind around chords, and yet i managed to garner 1st place in the biggest national competition in my country. But to get there, I had to go through proper training and go through the stages of a beginner before I could confidently say I can tackle a much larger obstacle. I had to play on a crappy upright piano and go through basic training with a teacher. Slowly working my way up and refining my skills till i got to a point where i can play anything i want. The "instrument" in the video is not an instrument. It's a tool. To understand the I - iv - V progression he described in the video, one has to learn what that means. A "can do attitude" can only get you so far. A complete novice who knows nothing about music and refuses to look up some basic terms or experiment on a real piano won't be able to use the tool in the video at all.
      Not knowing how to read sheet music vs not knowing anything about chords are completely different things. Sheet music refers to notes on a page like quarter notes, half notes, whole notes. Not every great musician needs to know how to read those, but every great musician needs to know how to play chords and how to manipulate chords. And if you want to tell me their COMPOSER didn't know how to use chords then you're talking out of your ass.
      Before you start mouthing off about things you don't know anything about, take a second and think for a minute. I didn't say "DON'T PURSUE MUSIC IF YOU'RE NOT WILLING TO PLAY A REAL INSTRUMENT." What I DID say if you NEED this tool to become a great musician, then you're just throwing money into the trash

    Yoooo the algorithm fed me a good one today. I'm glad you noted that this is a prototype. Principle-wise, it's solid - I cannot play keys proficiently but have enough years of studying music to know how to assemble chords and progressions in a key. I love that the hardware is focused on helping people create well-constructed music without needing all the actual theory knowledge behind it. Design wise, it's very beautiful but the current construction makes me question the overall quality of the build. The buttons and knobs look like they're liable to break or get stuck after some frequent usage. The materials look a little on the cheaper end too. Hopefully that's just part of the prototyping process, and I'm excited to see this project develop!

    THIS IS AMAZING!! I have a child who has visual impairment and cerebral palsy. Since he’s been 1 he’s always had a love for playing keyboards. At 7, he has perfect pitch. I’ve been struggling on how to advance his development since his CP limits his finger dexterity. I wanted to maybe try a chord/progression(I’m no musician) approach because he can press three keys down with both hands. I so far haven’t found anything but this device looks to have soooo much potential. Hopefully I can get this in the UK and doesn’t break the bank. Great job with this. You may be helping those you haven’t intended too.

      have you considered starting him with a launch pad, and pre-loading with chords in a major key to start? im a music teacher, i feel like if i was approached with this that would be my first. because if he can hit three keys with both, he can hit three chords with both or one chord with one etc... so he could easily learn chord progressions that way. tbh that might give him a leg up on people who play instruments like keys or guitar because you are skipping the physical learning (mostly just pain lol) and going straight to ear training.

      Sounds to me like a genre defining tool. There is already chord based electronic music like this, that does not take into account how independent voices in a harmony mold into one another melodically. It's certainly cool that someone would create this type of controller for those who want to recreate the aforementioned genre themselves. It's still largely generic with standard modes of operation from the perspective of a producer (no humanisation, slides or custom arpeggiation), so it's not terribly innovative. But it will perhaps make it easier for one person to perform or write accompaniment alone.
      It's not so hard to make this actual tool using a mixture of free software midi plugins coupled with a free DAW or some sort of midi remote control, no strings attached. You could throw in a midi controller if you feel the need, but as composing tool in 2023, there really isn't any.

      Another thing that would help so many people stop fiddling around and create actual music would be for them to learn how to actually play an instrument and learn some basics of music theory. I wish companies would stop developing software and gear that enables people to put together “music” without knowing the first thing about music.

    • @devinthorn8182
      @devinthorn8182 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +46

      Why does that really matter so much to you? Who cares if someone learns a bunch theory or sits down with an instrument for countless hours? How do you even determine how someone has learned enough theory or practiced enough hours to satisfy your requirements? do you personally investigate every musician and music creating individual you come upon to decide if what they create is indeed good music? I truly can’t wrap my head around this. I’ve played guitar for 15 years and studied plenty of theory and i could care less, if someone who doesn’t know shit about music can make a head moving beat touching piece of music with barely any background that’s fuckin awesome. Music being more accessible to different people of different backgrounds is ALWAYS a good thing. Not everyone everywhere can afford a nice instrument, or to spend hundreds of hours studying theory. People have lives, so only people with nothing to do but make music should be allowed? Stuff like this is perfect for someone who might want to express their self musically but is idk for example working two jobs and taking care of their elderly parents. I just hope a person like that never runs into someone as miserable as you. Good day
