    On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
    If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

    One of the greatest books written on how to fight in the F-4 vs MIGs 17, 19, and 21 is called "Scream of Eagles". This is a book about creating Top Gun and how Top Gun taught F-4 crews how to wring every last drop of performance out of the Phantom, to confidently engage any MIG and win over the skies of Vietnam. One Golden Rule was to enter a fight with at least 550 knots on the clock in the F-4. The F-4 produces 15x the drag of the F-16 when turning. At 350 knots, extend 2-3 miles, build energy, turn back in and re-enter the fight with 550 knots. Truly a great read. Author is Robert. K. Wilcox. Snap it up GS. Endless air battles and tactics galore. You will love it.

    The F-4 was best know to utilize the “death egg” technique. The founder of the top gun school spoke in a podcast about how that was the most efficient way to kill migs. Basically taking every fight into the vertical and making an egg shape flight pattern.

      There are a variety of techniques taught in Top Gun. Once the F4 pilots understood how to fight the MIG, the kill ratio jumped considerably. The F4 pilot here did not fly to the F4's advantage later in the flight, though he did a good job in the first turn, getting altitude for speed, allowing him to turn sharper than the Mig and return that energy back into speed, which he did, but then did not seem to use much else.

    I thought you were done for when you lost sight of him...of all the videos i watch of your dogfights i think that was the longest you lost track of your opponent. Great job. My step dad was a Navy Chief Jet mechanic and he worked on the F4's back in the 60's His squadron was the Jolly Rogers. I remember him telling me a story about the F4 taking off from the deck and the catapult launch didn't work right and the F4 just dropped off the front of the ship out of sight . They all ran up the flight deck to see as they got to the edge the F4 was just about a foot off the water doing everything he could to get air under his wings and blew water all over them as he went vertical. The pilot circled backed and landed . My step dad knew the pilot , well so he ran up to talk to him. He said 'Jim , I have never shit my pants in my life but i nearly did today " LMAO

      @abdulmismail 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Brian. It's free to download. You have the Su-25 (full fidelity) and TF-51D for free. You basically need a Track IR to "swivel your head inside and outside the cockput" or VR headset (more expensive but immersion is superb) and a HOTAS. I used an X56 to start as it has a twist grip as rudder pedals but some use a Thrustmaster T-16000 as entry level.
      You should definitely give it a go. It's a high learning curve so I suggest you get the FC3 modules (A-10A, MiG-29, Su-27, Su-33 and F-15) but they're non-full fidelity, i.e. you can't click things inside the cockpit.

    • @arguy3297

    Super keen on the F4, an amazing aircraft. Its really a shame most main stream conversations about it are all about the lack of gun. It was very successful internationally and had a very long service life. I love the British version with the huge Spey engines and pulse doppler radar and Skyflash missles.

    • @animeemail8902

      Whats even more stupid about the f4 gun situation is that it was only a problem because the military doctrine behind its use effectively forced it to always fight in close range engagements where missiles would be useless.

    I'm really surprised at a lack of use of high and low Yo-Yo's in these older jets. Modern jets it's less applicable, but with the older ones, especially if I was driving the F-4, I'd be using a nose up spiral (the MiG-21 can't match either continued rate of turn while bleeding speed, nor rate of climb) - and the occasional hi-Yoyo. Going into a flat circle .... that's playing into the MiG-21's strengths.
    I think a lot of folks used to "flying" the newer jets don't practice the YoYo maneuvers enough - but it's so dang useful.

    I flew F-4's , I would have never even tried to turn with the Mig in the initial head to head pass. Just go vertical and start from there. I also noticed that on the initial pass the F-4 is easy to spot because of the smoke trail. We used to enter the fight with the one engine at idle and the other in burner, there's no smoke that way. The later versions were smokeless and didn't have to worry about it.

    • @GrowlingSidewinder
      @GrowlingSidewinder  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tips, I"ll keep them in mind when we get the F4 module, these ones are just free mods and aren't fully accurate in terms of capability. Which model F-4s were you used the engine trick with if you don't mind me asking? B and C model ? and which model fixed the engine smoke issue ?

    • @jeepman1467
      @jeepman1467 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GrowlingSidewinder I was in the Marines so I flew the B version that was a smoker. I also flew the J and S versions that were smokeless. The Air Force had the C and E versions, not sure about the C but the E was smokeless. If you have a choose in which one to fly I'd take the E, it has a gun and maneuvering slats.
