    Yea here's a tip, don't build on a surface that can build up static electricity such as your bed, make sure to build it on something such a wooden table since it can't conduct electricity then.

    • @FNLNFNLN
      @FNLNFNLN 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      ESD isn't a huge deal in general, and that's not how static electricity works anyways.
      Static builds up when your components are separated from the ground by an insulator. To avoid static buildup, you ideally WANT to build on something conductive. There's a reason ESD bracelets and antistatic work surfaces are intentionally connected to a ground point.
      If there's any reason to not build on the bed, it's because materials like fabric are great for building up a static charge, and it also doesn't conduct that charge away to ground, so you can't get rid of the charge.
      Not that it's a serious reason, I built my last PC crawling around on a carpet in the middle of winter

      Same, the worst for me is still getting the CPU fan down onto that mount. It's designed to fit tight, but it always feels like you're about to snap the mobo in half. Everything else slides and clicks in really easily these days. And the cables all have standardized fits for the different types and only go in 1 direction so that has made things easier too. Cable management can still be a pain though.

    congratulations for your first build!! i hope you enjoy it a lot and play a lot!!! as a suport tech, i will recomend you to buy a "GPU support Bracket or Brace" , because the weight of the GPU with time can broke his slot in the motherboard!!! a lot of customer came to me with their broken GPU Slot ( PCIe slot in mothermoard) " Again congrats for your build!!!!

      Logan should have suggested getting an M.2 SSD. they plug directly into the motherboard and dont require cables. That's 2 less cables to deal with.

    That was absolutely brutal to watch! At least you're cute. Hopefully you've learned a lot more about computers. It's not that hard, people are just intimidated, but all the stuff is mostly made to fit and they try hard to idiot proof them with keyed sockets, etc.

    Congratz with you new PC :) Actually you did pretty well. Everyone can do it and it's all about patient and knowing each parts. I've been building PC's for over 20 years and I work as a PC builder for a huge company. Everyone has to start somewhere and be proud of your work ;) I would how ever suggest installing a M.2 disc Windows at some point. The speed is ridiculously much faster than a basic 2.5 SSD. But, yeah it does the job ofcourse. :) and you can always go back and work on your PC. Cablemanagment, installing og removing parts etc. Enjoy your PC :)

      The best part about a PC is when you need a bigger HD, you can buy a new one and put it in there. When you need more ram, or better ram comes out, you can just swap it out. When newer GPUs come out, you can just swap it out. When newer/faster CPUs come out, just swap it out. Every now and then new technologies come out requiring a more substantial change, like a new motherboard, but that isn't as often and you don't necessarily have to upgrade that and CPU super often.

    Actually, you'd wanna do the stuff involving the motherboard before placing it in the tower (the CPU, cooling, RAM etc.) inside of the box (after getting the plastic off of course LOL) because a. the box is supposed to be non-conductive and b. it'll protect the bottom of the motherboard... and also I wouldn'tve worn a sweater as they can be very conductive or at least worn one of those grounding bracelets since static can damage the components. Also I wouldn'tve assembled it on the bed but I totally get the lack of space myself... at least you had a plank of something that wouldn't conduct electricity and made for some sort of flat surface.
    Gotta say though, the end result is pretty cool and at least you assembled it yourself even if you got help doing it. I'm surprised it worked after being smacked by the phone, I was scared for both your motherboard and phone 0_0 I've never built a PC myself but I've got to just to even say I did it or at least tried, so this was inspirational in a way.

    Very goof for a beginner i will say if you ever build a pc again you should save from putting the cooler later as it can make it harder to install everything else and you also want to decide where the air flow is going.

    and with amd you can put the cpu in two ways one by lining up the triangle or lining up the letters with cpu and the socket letters so where the stick rises up to thats one other way
