- DISCLAIMER- I know I could have gotten a code or a USB of Microsoft windows for cheaper, but due to research and personal experience I chose to just spend the money to buy the full thing. I just like COMPLAINING ABOUT THE PRICE haha! no worries!
Hello friends!
Here is the behind the scenes look into what it is like to build your first pc! I have always had a love of video games and being creative, this along with my husbands love of building and researching pc's led to this very moment. Hope you enjoy, and maybe learn a thing or two! I must say that testing certain components ahead of the chassis' arrival is a VERY smart thing to do which is rarely seen by anyone whose build is their first. You clearly did your research on this and this earned my sub!

I've been building computers since the 90"s. I will say this:.. Its best to assemble the components OUTSIDE of the case and perform a POST to ensure everything works.. Then assemble into the case .. Even if you had the case BEFORE you started. Just makes everything easier if you do run into issues.
I totally agree! That is why I assembled everything first on the desk near monitors and performed a POST at 18:40. It would be a shame for someone to fully assemble their build just to find out a part was DOA.

How did you go to micro center and not pick up one of those cheap cpus. Micro center has the best deals on cpus.

There’s just one thing I don’t get on these newer gamer cases - I’m like an old gamer geezer and I wonder what do you do if you need an optical drive? Ripping music CDs and encoding blu rays etc? Can one of those front fans be taken out and used as a drive bay on a case like that?
haha! You definitely can make that happen, you just have to ensure you purchase a case with a spot for it. My case for example does not, but I do not purchase any type of CD's really anymore so I didn't feel the need to have one, but they do make cases that have the capability/come with one for sure.
You can get usb drive as well

Hey! we managed to snag one of these when it was in stock at BestBuy last year! I'm not sure what the availability is looking like this year but that could be a start.
You should not get this exact one atm because due to COVID it’s been harder to get graphics card so prices have gone up to like 700$ so many get like a 550

Well done getting a used monitor, but you wasted the saveing getting physical windows. Look into just buying a key and download link. Should cost 2 hours of legal min. The only hard work is using rufus to make the iso image suitable for a hard drive.
where is your power supply unit??
At 25:09 you can see at the bottom right corner there is kind of a little shelf that the power supply sits !
I feel like you could’ve went with a better power supply but overall you did well
Yeah unfortunately due to there being such a high demand for parts when I did this build, I kinda had to take what I could get. So far so good!

Tip: Next time buy an M.2 NVMe SSD. You can use your 2.5" SATA SSD as a second drive. Your husband should do that for his computer too. The boot drive should always be an M.2, unless you're upgrading an old computer that doesn't have an M.2 slot. EDIT: This last applies to both desktops and laptops.
Best tip: You don’t need to buy windows lol. It’s a waste of so much money. Just install windows on a flash drive and plug it into the pc and you’re set. To activate windows you can buy an activation key for less than $15.

I liked this build, the only thing I would of done differently was get a better CPU and get a cheaper windows license from a 3rd party seller. (Software discount store is my favorite)

Why you stopped uploading video you should upload
I kinda want to know, what was this personal experience (and what research you're talkin' about) that made you spend 140 for Windows and not going into an online store (and I do not mean ebay - there are tons of cd-key markets - URcdkey the first pops up in mind). It's not very smart, especially when you buy a monitor from...FACEBOOK.
The only reason for not buying from a cd-key store, is if you run a business that needs some proof of owning windows 10 (like a printed invoice). Those money could be spent on a better CPU and/or PSU (this PSU is ok though but the PSU IS important - the most important - part of your build).
I wouldn't say any of the above, if the build wasn't budget oriented :)
Other than that, good job, nice watching the video. Hope to see more :)

I had a few friends have bad experience and needed to purchase a full price windows code anyways, and it was my first build so I just went the safe route and budgeted in for the expensive windows key. Not sure if id do it again for future builds, but it suits me just fine as of now! :) I am aware how important the CPU and PSU is, and these were my best options due to the lack of parts and price inflation due to covid when I built last year! Overall was a learning process due to it being my first time, but im proud and pleased with it! Thanks so much, I do love it!
@@storytimewithellie4452 It's fine ! Just so you know, for your next build, bad experiences, usually, come from ebay cdkeys. They're not digital licenses, most of the time, they are keys made out of shady practices. :) Microsoft cares only if you are activated. Doesn't care where you got the key from :)

You should’ve went with Ryzen 5 3600. I think Ryzen 3 will bottleneck.

Yes, and you could have bought a license key for about $13.00 (always good to have a legal copy).
I could have done those routes yes, but I decided to go this route and its work great so i'm not too worried! :) Maybe for the next time.

Things u might wanna upgrade down the line, I would rearrange ur monitors personally it looks uncomfortable to look to one side or the other while ur playing a game. Definitely upgrade ur keyboard cuz its probably membrane, and upgrade ur gpu when u can. Other than that great build 👏🏼

@@destinyislas2167 GPU is graphics card, my dude/dudette. While central processor (CPU) has several big smart cores inside to do all the thinking, GPU has tons of tiny dumb cores inside to do lots of routine calculations just to fill your screen with those juicy colourful pixels. After all, even a simple FullHD (1080p) screen has to output ~120 millions of them pixels per second. So GPUs, once fancy unnecessary "graphics accelerator" things you could live without, today are key components of any PC.
Actually I would argue she should upgrade the CPU first. Its a 4 core, super cringe to buy a 4 core in 2021. A higher end GPU could be bottlenecked by the CPU which is what you dont want.
@@jordiroodi5985 Bottleneck war is never-ending. Something will always fall behind performance-vice in a PC. There are detailed tests performed by Gamers Nexus, showing that even top-tier-ish gaming GPUs are not _that_ bottlenecked by modern-ish 4c/8t CPUs.

Also, while I generally would agree that " _8-cores are better than 4_ ", I kinda find this whole discourse fundamentally... unnecessary. For a "just gaming" PC with a 1660 GPU, a Ryzen 3100 is _simply enough_ . Choice *if* to upgrade and *what* to upgrade should depend on budget and target tasks, not on "cringe factor-2021". It's 1080p gaming. For Cthulhu's sake, it does not require Ryzen 5950 + NVidia 3090. ☺
If the user already has a CPU _adequate for their tasks_ and does not require a higher thread count, dumping money into CPU upgrade is simply not financially rational.

Obviously her first build and not a very smart one. Intead of spending money on an RGB tower cooler, RGB ram, RGB SSD and RGB fans, she could have bought a better GPU and a better CPU. The $75 tower cooler on a ryzen 3100 is completely overkill. By the way, 4-core CPUs are terrible for high refresh gaming. I know because I had that exact same CPU and then upgraded to a 5600x. I don't get frame drops anymore. People really think that RGB gives you more fps.
As I stated it was indeed my first build. I also built during a part shortage, and never stated I was trying to get the best and highest performance 👍🏻 my computer looks the way I wanted, was the cheapest for the time of the build, and runs perfectly fine for what I use it for so I’m overall happy !☺️

Haha. Its pretty popular for people who build/are interested in building computers to record the process and post it on TH-cam, regardless if they are a woman. Many people look for these types of videos to help them learn and decide what they might want to do for their own builds!:)
@@storytimewithellie4452 I'm getting ready to go to Microcenter to pick up a Ryzen 3600. This will be the second PC I've built in a couple months. One was for general use and I used RGB aoi and ram sticks. The second one is going to be used for Server 2019. Will not be RGB.
I'm not knocking women building PCs. I'm totally liberated.
