so cute! you can tell how much he loves King! I'd consider getting him a few more hides and things to play with in his cage, a decoration session could be super fun

Very cute video and beautiful King! Just a tip: the carpet is indeed bad, you can actually see why in your video. The geckos can get their claws stuck on it and actually rip them out and get hurt that way. I would recommend sand/clay mixture where you can also burrow some holes where he can hide in and it gets hard so he can't eat it :)

Great video, love the gecko 🦎 ❤. However, i’ve had mine for about 2 months now, a few things i would suggest for both of us being beginners, hes going to need a few more hides, they need a warm hide, moist hide filled with damp sphagnum moss for shedding and a cool hide, on 3 different sides of the tank, one on the cool side, one on the hot side and one on the center. 2 digital therometors would be great, one for each side. I know alot of the comments say carpet is bad which yes it is true but as long as you keep up with it, it should be okay, i would switch it to sand/soil/clay or sand/soil when he turns about 4-5 months tho. Leopard Geckos hate seeing theyre reflection on the glass because it stresses them which is why you can see when he climbs the glass, its called glass surfing, try buying a tank background, they sell them as climbable rock walls and as regular laminated backgrounds usually at petco for about 15-20$. I can see you have a heating source for him but you might need another lamp for him with a UVB bulb, if not, make sure to keep up with dusting the worms in Calcium WITH D3. But stay AWAY from Red Nighttime bulbs, All tho people say it’ll hurt theyre eyes, it wont BUT it still produces light, leopard geckos like to be in the dark at night, a good nighttime heat source would be a ceramic heat emitter, they produce no light at all. Be very very cautious and gentle when handling him as well, they can drop theyre tails in super stressful situations and they may not grow back to look the same way. You guys dont have any handling issues but its a general statement, lots of people arent very careful sometimes. Make sure to change the water daily and if you dont have a water purifier, get a small bottle of ReptiSafe water conditioner to make sure the water is safe for the gecko, once you get the moist hide, they’ll soak in theyre water bowls to get rid of excess shed stuck on them so make sure its shallow enough for them to lay in but not drown. Any other questions, im free to answer but these are just the main things i know based on what i’ve seen! Wish you guys the best with your gecko!

hi i’m a gecko owner! in no way am i trying to tell you what to do. I just want to say real quick it’s actually better to feed crickets to them! the meal worms are waxy and it’s hard for the gecko to digest them and the gecko can get a blockage and pass away. small or medium crickets don’t chirp, and they’re pretty cheap. my local pet store sells them for $.10 each. I usually get a 50 count which is five dollars. just bring back the tube they give you and they’ll refill it and if you get some feeding tongs it’ll be easier to feed him the crickets and I recommend a different substrate for him to be on the reptile carpet can actually rip his toenails out so some sand or even soil would be good for him! but do make sure you give him plenty of calcium!! other than that, great job! also, you said that your son takes out everything in there which it might be better to leave stuff in there while you feed because it can stress the gecko out and geckos naturally hunt their prey so if you wanna just leave crickets or worms whatever you’re feeding that day in there he will chase them and hunt them and find them and it’s actually really cool to watch Also make sure you have a basket bulb and a UV bulb if you don’t! again not trying to judge or anything, but I do wanna advise where i can! great job Tony!!!

Just a tip! That’s not calcium, that’s a multivitamin called Reptivite. Should only be used 1 time per week.
You should get calcium with D3 if you aren’t providing proper UVB (Arcadia shadedweller 7% or Zoo Med T5 HO 5.0) if you do have proper UVB use calcium without D3 and with D3 2-3 times per month. Calcium would be used every feeding! Also they need a proper moist hide to shed proper and 2 hides for each side of the tank. The carpet harbours bacteria and is impossible to clean properly for them use paper towels instead they also rip their nails. Use paper towel instead for now. He was pretty stressed when he was picked up after glass surfing. Keep his stuff in and feed him that way, the glass surfing is a sign of stress and so is the tail wagging he done after he was moved to see the worms. Get some feeding tongs and feed that way much easier :) Avoid coil UVB’s they can cause burns, and they need overhead heating (plain white light basking bulb, not coloured light as it hurts their eyes) and use that as the only heat source no heating pads. Lay some slate down for the basking area. Measured basking area with temp gun for surface area, and have 2 digital thermometers not analog as they’re inaccurate for measuring air temps.
You want it 80-85F warm side air temp
    70-75F cool side air temp
91-98F basking area measured with temp gun. They need lots of clutter (fake plants) and wood for climbing :)

They also need a minimum of 36x18x18 inches of space, anything smaller can be hard to get a proper temp gradient inside of plus not much room once all the hides and stuff they need are added :) lovely gecko!
