The petstore told you carpet it better?? If that’s the case may I recommend to you why I personally prefer substrate/dirt for leopard geckos. Leopard geckos love to dig in general. Not to make massive tunnels but to dig in the substrate and make themselves feel at home. Also leopard geckos claws are nit as sharp to us people but can very much be sharp to the carpet. But considering that your gecko is very young just keep it in carpet or paper towel for now and later on as the gecko grows up you might want to consider getting dirt. Also make sure you use a Thermometer to read the temperature in the cage and also get a thermostat to control the geckos temperature make sure it’s not to hot. Also you can use Feeding thougns to pick up the worms. Also you can use a UVB light in the future. Make sure you only provide live insects not dead ones as geckos don’t have the best vision and need to have the insect move for it to see it. Also you don’t have to pick up crickets, you can dump them into a container and shake them around in calcium powder to dust them with calcium and pour them in the cage. It is very inriching for geckos to run around chasing foods like the wild.

King will eat super worms, Dubia roaches, crickets and mealworms and if u can find them small enough horn worms. Also when you get your bugs it's a good idea to have a separate container to feed the bugs veggies and fruits. IE greens ( collard, turnip and mustard) carrots too. It's called gut loading and it will add nutrients to the gecko. You'll get it together it sure was a learning curve for me too. Thongs are a good idea too because feeding them from that builds a sense of hey that person feeds me so all is good with them. Lol Throw them dried worms away to them that is GARBAUGE 🤣😂

Being that he is new he is going to need some time to get used to everything so he may be a bit shy but they usually come out late at night and sleep in the day. And also for the mealworms you can put them in the bowl he will be attracted by their movement. They have tongs that you can buy if you don't want to pick them up with your hand. And leopard geckos only eat insects but it's good to have a variation of the ones you give, they have wax worms that about the same size of mealworms and also crickets are good but I understand how you feel about them I have 8 lizards and they still freak me out😂

Oh wow you did no research. And just because the person at the pet store said this is how it’s done doesn't mean it’s right. Ma’am these animals need at least 40 gallons for an enclosure size, need multiple hides, need a warm and cool side of the enclosure, live for an average of 25 years and I’m just scratching the service. Please please please, look up the proper care for an animals and don’t cheap out on supplies. These animals aren’t easy and require everyday care that children should never be responsible of. I’d recommend returning this animals if you’re not willing to properly care for this animal.

Aww you're a sweet mama. I have had ours for 10 years and I started with carpet too but, u can always go to dollar tree and use shelf liner too, its eaiser to clean and you are gonna need a moist hide for them. The cheapest and easiest thing for now would be a plastic container with a moist paper towel (just spraying it with water when it dries out and change it out with a new paper towel). If not shed will not come off all the way and their toes could fall off. Btw the container PetSmart gave you will suffice as a moist hide for a little while. I hope the comment helps, reptile carpet is not very good as he keeps mould and bacteria. Leo's can have soil " arid soil" i would suggest Arcadia arid mix if you can buy that in the US. Impaction can be dangerous to Leo's, as they can't digest some things like soil and small stones. But the risk is small. Leopard geckos unlike breaded dragons are most action during dusk and dawn. So you like mainly seeing your little guys morning and night time. Leopard gecko and 100% insectivorous (only eat insects) their food should be dusted with calcium and minerals weekly. Possibly putting some around the back and side could help, king feel safer. Like a background he will feel like he's got directions a predator could come for him. Lastly he looks to be an albino (Albinism) morph. ( The colours and patterns he has) There are three types of albino in the hobby. Tremper, bell and rainwater. That's not necessarily important to know but it's important to know they can be light sensitive.
