What I usually do on those type of valves is I'll close the suction half way then I'll shut the liquid. That way you don't have far to go. If the compressor is any good, it'll hold anyway. Scrolls don't have reeds like a recip but they'll hold most of the pressure while pumping down. It's difficult to fully pump down 410a anyway, the internal relief usually opens up before it's fully pumped down.
I keep a set of gas orrifice drills to ensure always having the right size piston. You can keep a box full of the flow pistons still not have the right one.
Charles jumping in again saw you said Goodman so I was right there is a good chance the coil originally had a txv. But Goodman charges extra for the txv and does not include it with the evap coil now I know they make so called adjustable txvs so you may want to discuss with the custumer that option of putting a txv in it which the original probably had or a universal adjustable txv as options. But if I am right this is why if it had a txv why you replace it with a txv and not put a piston in it because that's not what it was designed to use.

I would always put the sticker on the air handler from the piston number so you can see whats is installed without removing it.
I do that too but not many people do it. If the sticker is gone I write it on there.

A piston makes a system critically charged.. and in the summertime, there is going to be some slugging going on

Why would an HVAC put in a 59 vs the 93 piston? Maybe a different condenser previously?
They probably lost the original and then just put in what they had. It doesn’t make it any better but that’s probably why.
