I have a handyman business in Oregon also. I’m a pretty skilled carpenter and definitely do good work, but you really open my eyes as to why I wasn’t making very good money. You are so fast and efficient at everything you do. It made me realize how much time I waste throughout the day. Just wanted to tell you thank you. Since I’ve been watching your channel. I’ve gotten a lot faster at the small projects and it’s really helped my business a lot.
I can do this type of work, been doing handyman/property maintenance for about 10 years now and cover electrical, joinery, Decorating, plumbing and Gardening/Grounds work. I’m never out of work, I’m learning all the time, there’s nothing I won’t try and learn now, if you seek out the best people for each trade and learn from those people who are willing to teach you the best ways to do things then you’re on to a winner. Don’t forget the people that helped you along the way though, a few crates of beers here and there go a long way when you need to ask them to divulge some of their valuable knowledge in a fix! I choose my hours, choose my days, I’m booked up for months in advance and wake up loving what I do! 😊
The Handyman can. I get inspired by your can do attitude. Man, nothing slows you down. Not the stripped threads, the broken pipes, the hot neutral wires you my friend are the yes, the GOAT!!!
When my dad retired, he did a few handyman jobs for some of the elderly widows in my grandmother's neighborhood. They paid ridiculously well (he charged $25/hr and they usually gave him a $100 tip), and he had to eventually stop taking calls because so many people started reaching out to him that he couldn't enjoy his retirement. No hard jobs: change light fixture, replace blown bulbs, change a sink faucet, put up a closet shelf, etc. A LOT of people have no idea how to maintain or fix things, so there's plenty of money to be made.... IF you are a person of principles who will treat people fairly. Good word of mouth = career!
Regarding your dryer repair, I usually cut a 2X4X? and place it against the wall to prevent the dryer from moving back. You need at least 2 pieces. I have rentals and this is one way I keep appliances in check.
Yeah, the tiny room is part of the problem. As soon as it feels tight in there for someone their first instinct is going to be to shove the dryer back further. Stop block for sure, I might make a little shelf the height of the control pannel to make it clean and finished
that and 90 degree close elbows. put one at wall and one on back of dryer, run the hose up and back down in an arch shape. not those are not ideal for air flow, nor is the big arch of vent hose. but better than smashed flat or ripped off.
Agreed. I think your larger audience is folks that don’t need all the minutiae. Like the wire hook orientation under a terminal screw on an outlet, etc. Love your videos and your buckaroo style. Infotainment at its best. Learning that is fun is remembered.
I did hvac for 7 years. You can add a premade filter housing made out of sheet metal that goes between the return duct and unit. It’s only as thick as a normal filter. About 1”

hi if my cold air return is leaking, any idea what might be causing that? (Hi-Velocity System) I changed the filter and opened the drain line (it was not clogged but a lot of water did come out when I pulled it off)
11:43 A nice helpful fix would be a 8-12" length of 2x2 tacked to the floor or wall under the vent exit so the dryer couldn't be pushed backwards. Dryers sometimes move when running.
You only need one program start time at 7pm. Each program start time runs all of the zones on that program. Since all three start times are set at 7pm, it effectively does the same thing as just setting start time 1 at 7pm and leaving start times 2 and 3 blank/off.
Yes! The telescoping magnet comes in real handy when I'm working on my car and drop a nut, bolt, wrench, washer, or when a socket decides to roll anywhere out of reach etc.!
many people will build the door/windows headers up against the wall top plate, then standard frame above up tp the header. that makes it easier to modify later on, for window/door changes. I just re-did mine that way and made sure no electrical was below the large picture windows. some day if I want a sliding door, I can just cut it open and install, no need to worry about headers and load.
Use a low profile dry duct should be able to find them home depot or lows and 90 vent under dry to come out the side. Sometimes there is a knockout there.
I've been a man for at least 25-30 years. I bought a little ratcheting screwdriver at the auto parts store way back when. It's got a flat screwdriver tip on one side and a Philips on the other. It's not Klein but it works. I've also got one of those extendo magnet thingamabobs too. Does that make me twice the man?😁
I love all the comments about how to fix the furnace filter situation. But that right there is job security! 😆 They have to call him twice a year to come and change that little filter. Nice video, Handy. Looks like an everyday average day for me. Handy on!
Tin snips and a filter tray. Slot the filter into the return laying on its side like a CD into a radio. You’d just have to change the size of the filters you use to match the dimension of the duct. Some duct tape to flash around the lips of the tray and you’re done. I’ve seen it done before by buddies who specialize in HVAC firsthand.
My dryer stopped working I watched a TH-cam video. Cleaned out the dryer vent then changed the fuses and coils saved myself some money $$$. Sometimes you have to do it yourself.
Keep the furnace where it is, kick the return duct to the left and put a 5” airbear filter box in. Move the combustion makeup air duct as needed. Alternatively, they also seal 90 degree filter boxes that are setup similar with the filter at a 40 degree angle.
The tinsey tool is cool On a budget use small ratchet with a (forget size) socket to hold the bit Tape it in or something if loose Sometimes it will stay
