HVAC technician in NC. Just decided to post some HVAC videos to try and help new techs, as the older experienced techs like myself, are getting closer to being out of the field and no longer being a phone call away. Now we will be a video away. “We will never know everything, but maybe what we do know will help.”
HVAC company said replace the Furnace. #hvac #furnace #hvacservice
The other company said they should replace their HVAC system instead of repairing it.

I have a ABS refrigerator making a noise on startup and not cooling below 41 degrees. What should I check? Thanks!
they definitely like you
Just talked me out of the XV lol
Nothing but problems from Lennox, would definitely not recommend it .
As always nice video again
Residential trane equipment is garbage now days man
That's what you call a runaway Trane 🤣
I wouldn’t recommend blowing air dust as my two cents plumbing contractors. Don’t always use primer for the fittings and even sometimes not even glue. You do not want that leak inside your walls.
Great job, you can have integrity and still make a profit!
Very true!
When the blades start to seperate from the hub you will get a rust trail at the connection point. Carriers do seem to have an issue with the front bearing leaking. I agree needs a new motor not a new furnace.
Do the right thing the first time and they will remember that when they decide to replace the equipment.
Yep, too many fault codes on those 80% Trane furnaces. Just tell me if the safeties, flame sensor, igniter and gas valve are firing. Glad it was just a loose connection.. Looks like the first guy did nothing based on what's visible in your video. Thanks for sharing. Keeps us retired guys engaged.
Nice
Thanks
I'd like to wonder how some of these maintenance "techs" at big companies are pulling in so much in revenue for the year... like $500,000-$1,000,000. Good luck doing that with break down calls let alone maintenance calls. Gotta be good at lying or good at selling a lot of BS accessories I guess.
Sales Techs, never fix anything!
@@myHVAClife that's the problem guys who sell need to learn how to work on the equipment. they are selling. As they need to be. Maintained too but that explains the missing if something is covered under warrenty and not knowing how to bill the manufacturer for the warrenty part crap. Or not knowing how to do a proper primary maintenance of equipment. Back to basics charies is what we need.
Another nice video and the customer is lucky to have you as there technician!
Thanks, appreciate you watching!
Seems like I see quite a few newer Carrier furnaces have issues with the doors not holding tight. Saved this lady some money for sure. Thanks for the video and stay safe out there.
Those doors never fit snug, always loose. Be safe as well.
yeah i dont think those motors are suppose to have 3/4" of thrust
It is the original, a new unit would not come with a motor that would last that long.
Dont know how the first guys didn't catch that, but at least you did! Great video!
Did not slide it out for further inspection would be my guess. I have seen some of your videos, keep plugging away!
@myHVAClife well i appreciate that, i know you tap in from time to time and leave great feedback!
Good lord they are doing this everywhere I see
They want to sell new units to reach revenue goals! To hell with doing what is best for the homeowner!
Poor design, I completely don't like them.
No need to replace furnace over a blower motor absolutely right charies. And hvac guts wonder why people want to stand over thier backs and not trust them and I say that after reading another's comment on another hvac channel moaning I charge extra if you watch while I work to that I say while of you have that attitude maybe you have something to hide and remember the custumer is paying your bill so don't take advantage. I wish more plumbers and hvac guys and electricians would be like you and learn proper custumer service people skills. To go with all that mechanical knowledge now get her as a custumer charies its a somewhat older simpler carrier furnace. Take care and keep em coming
They can watch me all they want. I always show my customers pics and videos to support what I am telling them. If they go with me it saves me the time!
@@myHVAClife good strategy charies I was saying that because I am sick of guys in the trade with thier comments like I charge extra to watch or moan about customers asking questions maybe if they had to deal with the constant scammer calls like you or Ted Cook who had them for awhile they would change thier tune or the hvac hack job calls or customers too. Like one guy said you seem to be getting a lot of the second opinion calls lately and Ted is getting the hack job calls and Curtis is getting the lazy calls or the ones with crappy landlords. God bless you, too all you guys for dealing with your areas and the types of customers in your area. Take care
Of the various HVAC channels I watch, Ted may get the most hacks, but you seem to get the most second opinions following scammers. Nice diagnostics, and I really hope you get this customer.
We have a lot of those corporate companies where I am. ARS, SERVICE EXPERTS, MICHEAL AND SONS, ETC.
@@myHVAClife they are cropping up around me to charies with hvac companies absorbing the small mom and pop guys. Plus they are doing plumbing too. Let's see we have len the plumber doing hvac too mationi plumbing doing hvac too. Let's see horizon hvac is in Delaware now because Chester County pa is just not enough. Not necessarily saying those guys are bad but when you get too big you lose that local touch for the customers in your area.
It's just this kind of situation that explains why customers want second opinions. How these first opinion guys can survive and live with themselves is a mystery to me. Thanks for the video.
It’s because white shirt salesmen are sent v. skilled mechanics. Hell you could see the gap between the blower wheel & housing right at the start.
Thanks for watching! They just move on to the next victim.
loosen the nut, pull up the blower wheel and let it go til it dies
I don't put on band-aids. I fix it right or I don't fix it! The oil leaking from the motor means new motor.
Nice work man 😊stay warm 😊
Nothing but sleet in Benson😡
👍
I have basically the same unit and after 17 years the same looking inducer motor went bad. I changed it myself but it was a bitch to get to the screws. without taking the gas valve loose to get the center panel out. I just replaced the board this past month since the spark ignitor would sometimes not light up.
Just used one today and I read the manaual lol
My well insulated 1800 sq ft house has an 80%, 80K btuh furnace (3.5 ton condenser). It's more than adequate, in fact probably just slightly oversized. Noticeably "forceful" hot/cold air from all the vents in all areas of the home. 2-degree temperature difference when system turns on and zero difference when it shuts off. I agree with you; I think that system is oversized for the section of the house.
Definitely 💯 agree 😊 Not to mention the towel in the water heater overflow pan 😅
That towel in the overflow pan is a classic.
I dont know much about HVAC but i use isolation pads when installin air compressors in auto shops.. what would you think about putting isolation pads between the unit and the blocks. they are suppose to take the vibration
When we add the 2 blocks we will add a pad on each.
I never could understand why builders want to stick the water heater in the attic. Even it being in a pan isn't gonna catch all the water should the tank rupture. If that ain't bad enough, it looks like the P&T valve is dumping in the pan.
Ohh charies sorry to comment again but if the return duct is undersized maybe you can increase the size but from what I saw the return size was 14 inches or was that the supply side but all those the ducts looked pretty big like 12 inches 14 inches but if they are oversized I would start with redoing the ductwork and maybe look into having it heat the whole house but I know as a general rule it's around 60,000 btus with gas per 1500 to 2,000 square feet so wgsrz it's square footage of the house is the unit just heating the, second floor to me it should be heating the whole house and same for cooling. But maybe for cooling be zoned. Again I am just trying to follow the logic based off of what you are saying.
Good information given as you work the problem!
Appreciate the feedback!
Damn, .45 in the supply duct is crazy. You could probably add another .3 for that coil. Supply static is out of control there.
Water heater PTV line going to the pan?? I agree that the ducts seem to be undersized. Foam isolation blocks under the unit would help. After a visual inspection I would have jumped the green wire to run the blower
Have to energize a mode for it run at full speed. G just runs 50%
Nice vid
Rag around bottom of water heater
Great video Charles you granted my wish with a video about static pressures and proper speeds. As for the unit I am not sure it's oversized question is does this unit heat the, whole house or just the upstairs at 100,000 btus that seems like thats more appropriate to heat the, whole house So maybe more supplies need to be added to heat the whole house and set up zoning for cooling so 2 seperate units can handle cooling. Just a thought charles but a good lesson in when building a house on why you design and build properly for the size of the house. Keep em coming charies and defenetely a cheer up from the, awful pipe doctor video today I watched where he trashed a, custumer who is disputing through the new York legal system an overcharge for the part not the labor charge which tells me the part was under warrenty and if the part is under warrenty pipe doctor needs to seek his payment for the part from the manufacture not harass and go after the custumer and seek machenics Leins against his house over a 275 parts charge that he needs to seek from the manufacturer not the customer. As the customer has had no issue with paying the labor charge which was 205 dollars. Maybe charies you should set up hvac in new York. Just kidding.
Nice video! Keep up the Good Work!!!!
Thanks for watching!
Nice repair charies even if it's a, Goodman which I don't like. Just what I needed after watching a pipe doctor video where he was harassing a guy over a dispute charge where from what I have seen it was a warrenty call so Mr pipe doctor should have just charged for labor not the part. So the customer filed a dispute over the charge for the part not the 205 dollar overtime labor charge. But Mr dumbass pipe doctor has proceeded to now file a mechanics lien on this poor custumers property over a 275 dollar overcharge instead of following the proper process to get the manufacturer to cover the cost of the part under warrenty. Thank God for honest good hvac people like you charies and jake and Ted Cook and even Curtis in Georgia who do warrenty calls the right way. And are honest. And charies I am happy to send you the link to this latest pipe doctor video. Take care charies and keep them coming.
I will be very glad and thankful to receive the thermal camera you are giving away.Thank you.
wait ? is this an outside unit furnace?? wtf.. i thought only the AC units are outside..???
mine i can hear relays clicking. flame igniter heats up (bright orange glow) tehn 1-3 seconds later blue flames "whoosh" up (all 4 pipes) 1-2 seconds later relay clicks and shuts off, rstarts same thing again, restarts.... over and over and over again.. never had this issue over 9-10 years and never cleaned ever, ( on SSI) cant afford it .... otehr vids said flame sensor needs cleaned! ???
We are having this on our new house, new unit. First person said we didn’t have enough insulation in the attic, they put more in and it did nothing. Only happens when heat is on, and usually when it’s pretty cold, but now it does it whenever the heat comes on. Sounds like this is what is happening. I will pass this info along to the HVAC tech.
Nice video... Were you trained by Trane to work on these units or self-taught?
That control board that your replacing won't work on the GMEC model of goodman.was told by goodman to pull it out or disconnect it
Nice 👍🏼 work 😊
Thanks! Appreciate you watching.
They had a recall on these, the plastic drain pan would melt coming in contact with the heat exchanger when the ecm blower motor fails to provide air flow within a specified time following gas valve energizing. The high dollar engineers never thought about plastic might burn which it did coming into contact with the heat exchanger. The real problem was the high limit safety did not open soon enough to prevent this. The board was the fix. There is a orange sticker on front as evidence that recall was performed. The instructions suggest inspecting coil condensate pan for damage if this trips
Thanks for sharing, I need to look into this.
That was a very interesting call. Kind of odd to see a 90% in an attic-not very common in NC. Like you I see a lot of Goodman's too, because they are the first choice of builders in new construction. Glad it was an easy fix, and definitely something to keep in the back of my mind if I run into a similar problem on a 90% Goodman. Thanks
Goodmans are definitely common, especially with new construction.
How many dam safeties ya need!
A few more, lol.
