It's so specific and not even the full de-essing process, that I wasn't sure how helpful it was but it's a process I've used for a long time for those really bad whistles and so I've wanted to share it outside of IG Stories, in a fully produced video. Dynamic EQ is the way to go for de-essing - do it in two passes, as well, one very narrow for the worst of the sibilance and then a gentler, wider pass to finesse and make the Ss sit right in context.
Yeah dynamic EQ is great and until Nova, a lot of podcasters (myself included) didn't have access to one due to budget so I was really happy to find the Nova plugin and be able to offer that as an option. I've been notching out the whistling for years so I wanted to share it as a surgical option and sometimes that's enough and the nice thing is that it's so narrow that it doesn't really affect spoken word. I definitely want to invest in the ProQ dynamic EQ so I can get those really narrow bands, it's a real shame that FabFilter doesn't seem to ever have sales that would allow a lot of hobbyist to get ecosystem. That hissing sound reminds me of a story a few years ago. I friend of mine got into some esoteric weight reduction stuff that consisted of listening to "recordings of someone telling you, you will lose weight". Then they added a layer of eso on top by passing the audio through a high pass, claiming the waves would sink into your brain and make you loose weight just by listening. You basically only heard the hissing and nothing else. It was so weird and scammy XD.
Meh, just automate or render a broadband eq in. Like -6db only on the ess sound. It will sound way more natural… Or just cut pull level of the ess down and Crossfade it.
