What a week from Fabfilter. The tease video on Monday, the feature reveal on Tuesday, on sale with upgrade options on Thursday and finally, eveyone's favourite tutor, Dan on Friday. Perfectly done.
Signing off your introduction video for your new EQ plugin by showing it being used as a vocoder has got to be the biggest flex I've seen in a long time haha
My favorite plugin jus got even better. I thought I already got everything I needed from an EQ plugin, but FabFilter prove me wrong again! I've been trying all the new features and yes... it's amazing!
I love this plugin! Had no idea the spectral dynamics has a sidechain input. That's crazy! Will definitely have to experiment with that. :) There's only one issue I've found with the spectral dynamics and that's when using broad range EQ bands. Musical sounds tend to be reduced in the lower part of the band more than the upper part, because the threshold isn't tilted to pink noise (which sounds more musical than a flat 0dB/oct equal intensity spectrum). Other than that, it's an amazing update! Well worth it. Thanks so much!
Perhaps an equal-loudness contour tilt as well, or an option to learn the average curve of the input signal so that resonances that deviate strongly will be attenuated first in a natural way whist retaining some variability.
I gotta say: this is very impressive. I don’t own any FabFilter products but man, this really is the Ferrari of plugins. I can just imagine what anyone that uses this must feel. What a time to be alive!
It’s very fun, just wrote a song last night with it and I only had to use one preset for my lead vocal and it brought it out so nicely, gain staged in Apollo with a nice chain going through a sm7b and it’s MONEY 😩
There is nothing like watching a Dan Worrall tutorial to know if an update is needed or not. As usual though if it is a FabFilter Plugin, the result is an indubitable and resounding 'yes' Thanks Dan!
This will be the biggest game changer of all time. Having that window showing every instance rather than having to open each one indiviudually to make changes is going to be a time saver. TAKE MY MONEY.
Yes, I agree. and it's one of the reasons why I like the CLA Mixhub SSL too... can open a single instance and see all my EQs, or Compressors across my drums all at once. DDMF did something like this years ago with their EQ, but it was not as good as what FabFilter has come up with.
@@NuclearDeathWalk I have already been toying with it. Its so nice being able to see all the eqs. so far the song I am working on sounds so much tighter.

Thank you once again Dan for showing us the practical magic. And it appears, Fab filter just gets better and better. Being able to see eq and masking across multiple tracks is great and the Spectral Band thing is just... Fab.
I am rapidly becoming quite the fan boy of FabFilter. I got the TotalBundle with the student discount and most people thought I was stupid for not taking another companies subscription model. With the upgrade price I am definitely happy that I will be grabbing Q4. That frequency spectrum feature is about a week late but I will be using it a lot on solo piano stuff when loudness becomes and issue with some pretty specific harmonics
I was joyfully laughing out loud watching this. I've never been happier with an upgrade. FF added things that I didn't even know I was 'missing' in PQ3. Multiple instances filtering/pinning is huge. Thanks, Dan and FF.
Fabfilter opens my mind up to the possibilities of audio and really helps me visualize music clearly. One day we will have one plugin that does everything at this rate. Pro-Q can eq, mb eq, compress, sidechain, resonance suppress and much much more. Sky is the limit with this thing.
The Q3 was already so good that nobody else has come close for me in all the years since it's been out, but now the q4 essentially adds a multiband compressor, vocoder and soothe 2 in there. Love it!
1) Holy smokes, @FabFilter, you have outdone yourselves AGAIN with this new update! 🤯 2) I wish all manufacturer youtube plugin demos were this straight-forward, informative, and chill. 🏆💜
I don’t even have Pro Q3 (nor am I skilled enough to properly utilize it yet) but I watched all the way through thanks to Dan’s swell explanations of these awesome new features. I’m glad to see the FabFilter team is still hard at work pushing the envelope on the ergonomics and quality of their products
Until Dan pointed it out, I never made the connection between being able to see and adjust all eq channels at a glance and mixing on a console. This would be a great way to rapidly get to a decent rough mix when starting with a new track, provided you had your template set up in advance. And that vocoder idea! Dan is not only a deep subject matter expert, but also an extremely clever and resourceful person to have seen that little possibility!
1. Expected spectral (Soothe2) and transient/tonal (SplitEQ) options in v4. That would mean we wouldn't need any other EQ plugin. 2. The instances overview is probably the most exciting feature for me. While I'm still waiting for a channel strip from FabFilter, Hitstrip was released, addressing some expectations. Now, this overview gives hope that we might eventually see the inclusion of a compressor, gate, saturation, reverb, etc., into this view, creating an entire ecosystem for mixing. The ultimate step would be the release of a revolutionary DAW with a new way to view and control channels. Instead of another analog emulation plugins what we need are better tools for working digitally, and FabFilter delivers. At least they are moving in the right direction. Thanks for developers and Dan.
Dan, I love you... even more than Santa. There are so many new features in version 4 that I feel the need to pimp my brain with photographic memory while watching this.
As a musician who loves studio magic, my worry with taking on Pro-Q4 is the learning curve. With all its visual beauty, it still comes down to what goes into the ear. I'm interested. Dan Worrall handles the app like a musical instrument. Thank you for this video.
This makes me laugh 😂 more than 5 years ago, as a mixer, I imagined a system allowing me to see the frequencies of each track and to be able to calmly do subtractive and additive EQ and more easily avoid wave conflicts. And there you have it, fabfilter beat me to it 😂, congratulations for making a wish come true 🎉
omg some of this features will be extremly useful. exactly what i was missing for my baseline. now i will have it all in 1 plugin! no more need for Spectral Eqs. This is amazing!!
Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it. There's always new plug-ins / updates coming out, so there's always a danger of feeling disappointed or like you've missed out. Soothe2 hasn't suddenly become any worse of a plug-in with the release of Pro-Q4. I'm sure you'll love it. Nonetheless, I'd be very surprised if HORNGEN4 is correct when he says of the ProQ4 that 'this is pretty basic'. FabFilter are not known for being basic: they only release if what they're doing is competitive.
Great Introduction. One new feature that you failed to mention, that is particularly useful to me, is the ability to band limit the detector for dynamic bands. I'm one of the people that never really used the dynamic bands in Pro-Q3 because I never felt that I had proper control over it. The attack and release and detector band limiting mean I can do a few things that I do in Pro-Q4 that I would have previously done in Pro-MB. I can duck the low frequencies on my bass guitars right in the EQ now. Great stuff.
How is it that Pro-Q just keeps getting better and better? When Pro-Q2 was released, I thought “this is it…there will never be a better all around digital EQ” but it just keeps building and adding and each time it’s like “?!”
