- This is Medfords first OTF knife and i had a pretty low number that I wasn't aware of. Let me know if I'm totally off base on my thoughts. I've handled. a wide range of OTF knives but don't own much of them.

$600….Nope….
It's a lot that goes into making a new product. Will see how it ends up.
lithium vrease on the spring will make it go away. That what MT does. It lasts about a year or so and you have to redo it.
Thanks for the information on the spring. Proprietary hardware. Will end up getting one of their bits.
Same noise like the Microtech Dirac Delta. I love this noise.
Good that you do as that noise drives me nuts. They are taking a look at it as they said it should not have that sound.
Really like the blade shape.
Yeah that's why I picked it up other than the dagger. The primary grind isn't how they advertise though.
I agree. Nope! My friend bought a microtech ultratech clone from wish for $30 that sounded like that. For $600 absolutely unexeptable.
Just got sent back as they agreeded it should not sound like that, so will see how it comes back.
You would be upset if you ordered The Knife Back in November 2022 and No idea when they will arrive i have a higher number .
You are the QSP guy!
That I am also the Orion Knives Guy and Blade Banter Guy.
Thanks for being honest! My recommendation is put the knife away, it will become a collectible once the market forces lead the company to the natural conclusion.
Nice, I didn't realize I was that low in the number system. There is a lot of work that was done and just hope they can figure out how to get it dialed in.
🤙
Thanks for stopping in
I purchased the Proof Strike in December of 2022, I still haven't received mine.....the wait is ridiculous.
Yeah it's a big process to get things going let me know how yours is as I'm not very impressed so far.
11:43 Did he put your face up in his video?? Or was that you adding it
I did that for fun and bleeped him just to not get issues with the video.
Are you new to OTF knives?
I don't own very many OTF products handled but not a product that I carry outside the other knives. What did I miss since I'm not a OTF person.
Cool design, the spring ring is something you wouldn't except at that price. If you're able to disassemble it you could put some grease on the springs that might help. I've seen other companies put their springs in plastic sleeves.
A sleeve would probably help so it would not ring. Sending it back in so will see how it goes.
@@BladeBanterget it back yet?
If it hasn’t been said here, Greg indicated that the ends of the springs will be vulcanized so they don’t have spring-ring in the production run. You’re looking at a proof strike, so don’t get too wrapped up in the minutia just yet.
Nice I tried to find the video where he mentioned something about that. This one is heading back for the 2nd time, will see how it is when it arrives.
Buy the Kershaw Livewire OTF it made in USA. It will blow that 600.00 dollar OTF AWAY.
Yeah I have handled that one, interested to see how the Microtech new set up for no blade play will be.
I bought The Livewire nothing to brag about ,Sense i havent Gotten my Proof Strike i can't Compare But The Gen3 Combat Trodoon Mycrotech with Dual springs is My last otf Purchase. The switch is hard to open on The other Microtech's The livewire i can open The Dualspring is super eaisy . Old age makes a Difference .
I ordered my strike proof in December of 2022 dagger strike proof I still don’t have mine
They are still working through the list, seems the dagger is tuned a bit better.
Me too. December of 2022 still no knife but they have the money. Oh well……
Looking back I made the purchase 11/21 for the knife.
Ordered mine in November 2022 .Never expected it to take so long .
Sounds like a lightning
Yeah sounds like the aluminum version I have. Will see how it comes back.
The internal harmonica just needs a little breaking in.
Maybe so the first one I got didn't have the sound and this one does.
They said to send it back in so in transit to the factory currently.
Surprised Tony hasn’t sued him yet. 😎
Different mechanism on the knife, unless it looks like a different Microtech?
Take it apart and grease the spring. It should get rid of the spring sing.
Nice I don't have the tool for it, may need to buy the $20 or $50 option they have.
TAME THE TWANG !!!
so simple ... disassemble knife. Take q-tip, remove cotton from one end. tuck that into the inside of the spring. Doesn't take much to dampen the vibration of the unsprung spring. Someone should tell Medford before they embarrass themselves with a Twangy OTF first time out. They are already using MT OTF designs as most everyone does these days. Curious MT never solved the twang either ... just takes a tuft of cotton : )
Nice I'll see how it comes back as they agreed it should not sound like that. Also my need to order their bit to open the knife up too.
The internals are not the Microtech mechanism. Just hope they can dial it in.
Really thats the fella that owns Medford?
Whys he so unhappy?
Yeah Greg. He has his days.
If I bought that I would not be happy. I hope Greg irons out those wrinkles.
Yeah sent it back in so will see how the 2nd round works out.
needs some white lithium grease on the spring. Should help it
Yeah with the proprietary hardware I didn't want to mess with it, and coming from the factory like that was odd.
No way this is better then a heratic and its priced like one. I love medford but overbuilt pocket tanks are what they do best, stick to that please.
They just discontinued the Praetorian model
@@BladeBanter the original but the praetorian t is still super over built. And besides the maurader h was always the most user friendly knife they made anyways.
Oh I thought the whole line was getting discontinued or stalled then he will bring out a new one to take it's place.
Looks great. Fires and sounds terrible. Be hard to carry that a month to "break in"
Yeah they agreed and it is in transit back to the factory.
How many for $600.00?
1 for $600? Not sure about the question.
Love Medford. A little disheartening but to have #4 in 10yrs it will pay off. Obviously Greg’s not racist but these days these sallies can’t take a joke. Or just man talk in its simplest form.
Yeah I didn't put out the original unboxing until I got the knife back. It's difficult as it seems I should have kept it initially, as the spring noise is much more annoying.
I have seen cheap ass clones, and just flat out cheap no-name otf that make that noise. Furthermore, the video of the guy talking about the angle and "just don't close it at that angle", no, flat out NO, if I am spending more than 100 bucks on an otf it should not have an "angle of failure". I have a cheap ultratech clone that opens and closes at any angle and has not failed yet.....
The guy is Greg Medford himself. I just threw those is as I found them amusing. But will see how it comes out as it is in transit back to the factory for round 2.
BUY A KERSHAW LIVE WIRE
Thanks for the recommendation, I handled one but not long term.
This is why I spent $1500 on HAWK OTF, zero blade play and works every time. They should stick to the style of knives he builds best, I get wanting to expand your line of offerings but they should have thought this through a little more.
It's a big undertaking. Probably the whole buy once, cry once mentality with the Deadlock.
For the price point, there should be NO issues! I would much rather own (and do) a Microtech. Just my opinion, but Medford knives have always been overpriced.
Yeah I got in early to support the work the team does there as there is a lot invested in time and expense. Hope it gets ironed out on this next trip in.
I would be very mad if i bought a 600 dollar otf that had the spring noise of a 20 dollar lightning.
The steel variant I have for the lighting is solid. Yeah I'm pretty disappointed so far, will see how it comes back as it is in transit now.
It will be gone in production. Greg covered this in his video. The springs will be vulcanized at least on the ends.
@@Steelydan670 didnt he pay 600 for that one?
Yes $600 for the Medford which is the production version.
They may have missed that step as this is the production model of the OTF.
I have a couple dozen OTFs…microtechs, guardian tacticals, bokers, kershaw, lightning, clones…for $600 I’m not impressed…it looks like a cheap Recon 40 knockoff.
Thanks for the input as I know the internals are different, but will see how it is when it comes back as they agreed that it should not make that sound.
I love that stupid sound. Too bad it’s not the sound of a premium price knife.
My aluminum Lighting makes that sound but it drives me a little crazy.
Minds well just get a sec gen combat troodon be done with it
Is the gen 2 the best out of the versions?
Not impressed. But i like the blade shape.
Yeah will see how it comes back from the factory.
The sound wouldn't bother me, except that it might be indicative of tolerances that they could/should have tightened up, or absent that, additional blade material that could have fit into the handle.
I'd be more annoyed (as a lefty) with the clip setup. First of all, I rarely get into clip aesthetics, but that thing is butt ugly. Aside from that though, what in the idiocy/jack@ssery is the purpose of designing a reversible pocket clip that can't be reversed with common hand tools?
Yeah I'll need to buy one of the bits they offer for $20-$50. Will see how it comes back on the 2nd round. I just hope they can dial it in.
I knew when i first saw this video it was going to be over priced everything Medford does is not worth the money 🙄
Will see how it is, going back the 2nd time.
That sound is no bueno. $600 otf should not have those sounds.
Yeah got it back and it's better but still something that is binding, almost like the. Sharpened edge is binding it up in a lower 45 degree
Do waste money on an OTF that makes a noise like that and $600 price tag. When you can buy 3 better knifes that open just as fast but silent or mostly silent.
Guardian Tactical has been one that I have looked at more seriously. Any other brands other then them and Microtech?
Way overpriced. We have options and WONT BE GOUGED ANYMORE!!!
Will need to see how it comes back from service.
$600 and 18 months...parts still not made in U.S. Still doesn't work correctly. Expensive excuses.
I believe a lot of the parts are from the USA with a few in Taiwan.
Medford thinks he is a tough guy and talks to people like they are stupid. Probably has very few friends, if any. I don't know why some people in the knife community tolerate him.
Sorry comment was held for some reason. He resonates with some but I like that they are doing USA manufacturing and continuing to push forward.
Never Medford. I don't support racists. Cheers to you though. 👍
Thanks for the comment not many companies that are putting out USA made goods. Just a bit frustrating with this one so far.
Better not buy Chyna knives then.
Buy what you like but if you feel a certain way about a brand or a company then voting with your wallet is the way to go.
Not enough washers add two washers on one side add three washers on the other side problem solved
Add washers to the otf ?
