Many kind thanks for an awesome, unbiased and honest review (as always) Dirk buddy.
What I find astounding is with the length of time that MKT has been in operation and with all of their super high-tech equipment, and crazy tolerances, they are unable to deliver a brand-new flipper knife to the market, that actually flips without the need of additional wrist movement.
If the knife is indeed on bearings, it should flip flawlessly and without issue. Bearings do not need to be broken in.
Now, because it doesn’t flip, this leads me to thinking it is possibly a design flaw, where the geometry is potentially off.
I think of my cheap knives, such as Twosun, CRKT, Benchmade, and Kershaw all costing a mere fraction of an MKT, and yet they all flip flawlessly EVERY TIME!!!
While I am writing this, I am flipping my Hoback War Horse, and I can’t get the deployment to fail, no matter how softly I hit the flipper tab.

Now I personally don’t care one way or the other about Medford knives.. but in a hobby where makers are exploring quirky things like OTF utility blades and combs, weird locks and designs, why complain? Most Medford knives are fairly expensive. You can use this knife to do other things besides cut steak. I do try to show all the knives. The good the bad and sometimes the ugly.
I often show knives I don’t personally like because what we like is personal and so wine else might love it.
Yes the detent could be better but I also think the ‘grease’ they use at the factory is really thick and just might not allow the bearings to really ‘work’. The owner will be taking it apart and cleaning it all up and ‘tuning’ to his preferences and I’m sure he’ll get it dialed in just right.
