My biggest WTF moment was the realization that Dianna did that amazing flying lasso lightning scene just to go to her apartment blocks away. Not to chase the bad guy in the helicopter....
I had to actually pause and ask my family if she just learned to fly or learned to fall gracefully... we still don’t really know. Is the lasso like Thor’s Hammer now? Can just straight fly like Superman? It was one of the dumbest/ most convoluted parts of the movie... and the sad things it was supposed to be one the impact emotional parts.

Honestly I thought Hans zimmers score was forgettable It’s like he read the script and went “this ain’t worth my full effort I’m just gonna make some quick music collect my paycheck and leave”
Wait, that was Zimmer? Also for the big flying emotional scene, they didn't even use an original score, they used Sunshine by John Murphy... I have a feeling it was really just Zimmer's underlings doing all the work with his name slapped on it.
Exactly. The background score was a big big letdown. One of the main flaws. It never build up any moment. I found it boring and even grating at times. I don't know and don't care who the Zimmerman is.
Bruce Almighty did it better and at least they undertood that you also need to deal with the consecuenses...not everything will be magically erase by the power of a cute speech
For real. I was really enjoying it and wondering where it could go. Once Steve came back and Max Lord stole the dreamstone, that’s when I checked out. It felt like they were just trying to fill for time after that first act because this story does not fill the run time of the movie. You could cut this movie to 90 minutes and with some fixes and tweaks it would be loads better.
The only thing i can think is there'd be no cold war references. The only reason I think it's set in 1984 is because it's referencing the dystopian novel of the same name. But your right. Could've been set in a later date and nothing would really change!

Finally watched it (the movie just recently became available here in Germany). I was kind of primed to hate it from what I'd been hearing, but actually found myself enjoying the first half hour or so quite a lot. The goofiness of the first action scene stayed squarely in Donner territory and thankfully never quite crossed the line into Lester-land, and I felt the movie was getting a lot right about Wonder Woman's character while having a lot of fun with her. I liked Barbara Minerva's character, even though she was kind of a familiar superhero movie villain trope and I enjoyed Pedro Pascal as Max Lord. So I started to feel maybe I'd been misled and this movie was kind of awesome ... But then it started going downhill really quickly. I would've forgiven the problematic return of Steve Trevor if that was all that was wrong with this movie, but there was so much more that broke my enjoyment of it. The plot just fell apart like a Jenga tower and some of the action was just laughably badly staged, which was a real surprise after the first movie and the first couple of scenes of this one. I feel sorry for the cast, because they were all pretty awesome. Gal Gadot remains a brilliant choice to play Wonder Woman, I enjoyed seeing Chris Pine back in this (even if his return was really badly plotted) and Kristen Wiig and Pascal both did a great job with some lame material. Considering that Patty Jenkins has been saying in interviews that this was her own true vision, without any interference from the studio, this is really disappointing. And honestly, I think the studio's public commitment to keeping her on for the next Wonder Woman movie now looks like a mistake.

They removed it from the movie, because they find the sword and shield to be “too aggressive,” and that she wouldn’t need it unless she’s gonna use it. That’s what I heard.
I'm 100% sure that the concept behind this movie was "I want to make a Wonder Woman movie set in the 80's, but I wish Chris Pine could still be in it."
I don't get why they didn't go the way of the TV show. They cast the same actor as Steve's descendant, and they could have easily shown the two of them slowly falling in love and having her come to terms with that.

That is not Chris Pine’s body. The issues just continue from there. It’s severe enough to not be ignored for the spectacle. In my case that is.

They did show her going home. It's where she went when she first learned to fly. Then they showed her flying to the final battle. As for Cheetah, I don't know why she became Cheetah. I heard Maxwell Lord wishing her some power or something, but definitely nothing to do with turning into an animal. I was expecting him to say "apex predator" like she did but he didn't.

Yeah, they really should have cut that out. Have Max give up his wish which also erases all the wishes he gave. Simpler and more believable then every person on earth giving up their wish. They literally say that it will all be reversed if the stone is destroyed and him revoking his wish is destroying the stone so it even had an in universe explanation lol They just decided to ignore that because they really wanted that cheesy montage of people revoking their wishes.

I was very disappointed in Cheetah and the way they made her look. I'm such a big fan of Cheetah and was looking forward to seeing her in the movie. Even in the trailer I was somewhat annoyed. I'm sorry but I don't think Kristen was good for the role.

What I didn’t like about the movie was that there was no consequences for the villians. Wonder Woman was just like “don’t be bad anymore” and they were like “ok” and that was it.
In BVS, Diana stated that she disappeared from mankind after WW1. A proper sequel would have been an event where Diana had to go back to Themyscira to save someone, which could have explored Diana’s world and the old gods.
I think this movie should've been about Diana and Steve in a James Bond-like story, always away from the public, and Maxwell Lord should've been his comic self: a mind-controlling, self-interested, power-hungry secret agent.
I got to be honest, when I watched the trailer, I thought Steve will be like Bucky in Winter Soldier, got brainwashed by the enemy and Diana get forced to fight him. But, nope! This is just like an episode of Fairly Odd Parents when whenever Timmy making a wish, it's always fucked up and Timmy needs to fix his mistake.
I did feel that she wishes trevor back but it cost a live and her abilities. So she does the right thing, say her final goodbye and decides to put things back together. I felt a good vibe. The thunder, the let go him. Trevor used to love flying.

Yeah, this movie had a big problem with the clunky way it delivered exposition. Like how they introduced her golden armor; she might as well have just said “Oh that? Yeah it’s a new costume I’ll be wearing during the finale. Anyway...”
I thought about what he said about how the opening sequence relates to the rest of the story and I disagree, I don't think the shortcut lesson was for Diana I think it was for Lord and minerva. They were trying to get, through a wish, things they could have gotten with hard work and time. What Diana wanted however, she couldn't get any other way.
This! Like how in the hell are we supposed to believe a normal guy like Maxwell Lord is willing to risk everything on an old wives tale myth about some magic stone? lmao. There has never been any indication in the DCEU world outside the confined moments during WWI where WW fought Ares that magic exist in the modern world. If it were the comics, what would have happened is the Duke of Destruction (who created the Dreamstone) who is the henchman of Ares and a demigod himself, woulda been pissed Diana defeated Ares in WWI and had been plotting to get his revenge and since he can manipulate or inspire human's minds, somehow got into Maxwell Lord's and put in the desire to discover the Dreamstone. Bam simple as that.
Wonder Woman 84 & Thor: Love & Thunder have many weird similarities for some reason. Love interest returns, good guy turns into a villain, wish granting etc. All that being said, what surprised me the most is that the same directors (Patty Jenkins & Taika Waititi) have made better movies before with the same character, plus both of them have writing credit this time around. WTH...
Yeah I also wanted to love this movie. I love what Patty Jenkins did with Wonder Woman's origins movie. I love how there was nothing cheesy about it. It was a superhero movie it was dark it was gritty it was foreboding. Wonder Woman was fucking bad ass in the first movie. Her superhero score gives me chills every time I hear it. WW84 is exactly how you explained it to be. A movie that looks like it was filmed in 1984. There were scenes where I could see wires connected to Wonder Woman. When she saves the little boy and rolls down the middle of a highway you can tell that it is a straight up mannequin She is grabbing. Just very disappointing!
i liked his acting and his role. It was extremely captivating. It felt like the rest of the cast couldn't keep up with his energy level. Gal seemed like she didn't even enjoy beeing in the movie.

I can't believe the directors, producers, and actors watched a screening of this movie and actually thought it was good enough to release to the public.
I think by the time they had seen the finished product it was too late to change the entire movie (because there were only a few parts of this movie that I would consider worth keeping and the rest should have honestly been scraped). But then again that raises the question of why, before even filming, these people looked at the script and thought “hey this is pretty good”.
@@worshipcatalyst1 Not sure how old he was, but we know as of 2016 he had been Batman for at least 20 years. It's safe to say his parents were long dead in 1984. This is the problem with the DCEU. They tried to compete with Marvel's MCU but wanted to have their big Avengers team-up stuff right away instead of putting the groundwork in first. So now the whole thing has splintered and they're churning out standalone films that can't even decide whether or not they're part of a shared universe anymore. The result is an endless stream of uninspired junk that would have been considered passably mediocre 20 years ago, let alone now.
Even the mall action scene was pointless, WW was flying all over the place for basically no reason as all "enemies" (the robbers) were doing nothing, just staring in awe (some with a gun in hand but still not doing a thing with it), and there she is moving and jumping around where she just could have captured them with her lasso in 3 seconds. pointless action scene.
Those types of scenes are in a lot of superhero sequels. This one is one of the worst versions of that scene because the bad guys are so non-threatening.
this movie was A1 trash. the plot was terrible, ending was terrible, and there was one scene where she falls on kid in the middle of the street (and the kids reaction afterwards was the funniest part)
Setting her in the 80s sounds so cool. Like she chases a group of criminals into a nightclub. She walks across a dance floor with Blue Monday pumping in the background and everyone just stares at this strange warrior woman. That'd be a cool scene imo
The one that really stood out to me was when Diana was lassoing planes and lightning and cycling through a bunch of flying poses, then suddenly it cuts to her grabbing the golden armor from her apartment, then cuts back to her showing up at the boss fight.
Haha! That's because you perhaps saw the WW84 movie prior to WashedUp DC Jan 6th To those of us who watched Gal and "Steve" forever after the LIVE Remake of *The* *War* *of* *1812* on January 6th, this Wonder Woman movie makes complete sense.
Perhaps I lowered my expectations after all the negative reviews, but in my personal opinion I though WW84 was ok. It was different that it had a more "personal" arc to the stories and characters. + Definitely felt for the "gold" guy as he was trying to be a successful father in the eyes of his son all along + The idea that ancient gods still have an influence in modern times + Cheetah had some motivation as to why the way she is. + Good and touching explanation where WW got her abilities to fly + a little annoyed from the previews that WW's old love interest would miraculously be alive in '84, but it was handled quite well and "made sense" - The concept "Careful what you wish for' was pretty good, just resolved a little too hokey, but it could have been worse if they went with the "It never happened or everyone forgot about it" approach.
I really agree with your points. I did enjoy this movie because in my mind it was mindless. I didn’t have to think about the plot at all or really care. The cinematography was great, actions sequences well choreographed, and the acting is A list acting. However you’re correct on plot and the film having extreme clichés. What kills movies like this is their need to have to exist in a universe now. If this was a standalone Wonder Woman film that wasn’t a part of the DCEU I would’ve loved it way more.
I feel like if the plot was more about trying to find asteria or whatever her name was, it’d be a much better movie instead of making it an episode of the fairly odd parents

I'm tired of movies using the "nerdy ugly duckling" cliche. It's trying to tell us that these (people who are gorgeous btw) aren't attractive because they're nerdy. If you saw a woman who looks like Kristen Wiig drop all of her books on the ground, would you be like "nah she's nerdy so I'm not going to help her." Or would you like "OMG let me help this girl who looks like Kristen Wiig." It's not believable that the characters in the movie would treat her so badly in the beginning.
I'm not sold on this take ... As in: it didn't seem to me that those 2 dudes were walking away from helping Wiig because "nerdiness" but rather that their behaviour was in line with a thesis supported by many, many, many other scenes in WW84 - to wit: the male gender are essentially horrible human beings. That through-line supported by the shocking number of scenes where women are sexually harassed and/or assaulted.
@Ruby Barber While I would not qualify 2020 as being an especially good year it 100% had some real benefits, gave me a lot of time to process things I was too busy to really deal with and get over a very long term funk after a bad breakup from a 10 year long relationship. Being locked down forced me to confront and deal with my pain and eventually find peace; so while the year has been a disaster there was some silver lining.
I’m sick to death of people blaming 2020 on all life’s problems. 5 more days of people whinging about it, then they can all start whinging about 2021 life’s problems. Nothing against DC fans out here but most of their fighting scenes are done nighttime. Sometimes I can't see anything because it's too dark even if I'm already wearing my glasses. That's why I prefer Marvel when it comes to editing and story line because it makes a lot more sense.
Remember that time when the Avenger when back in time to get the Stone's from all over time but for some reason they didn't go back before Thanos destroy them, or nebula getting caught by thanos even though she have the time watch to go back to her own time but for some reason she didn't used it. I could go on but i think you get what i mean. Both Marvel and DC moives do not make sense at time. I really care that much for them now. They good to watch if you went something to do if you don't have anything to do at that moment.

I couldn't see much of the Cheetah sequence because I saw it at the drive-in and it has quite a bit of light pollution, but it's still really freaking nice to be able to go somewhere safe and see it.

For real. I was really enjoying it and wondering where it could go. Once Steve came back and Max Lord stole the dreamstone, that’s when I checked out. It felt like they were just trying to fill for time after that first act because this story does not fill the run time of the movie. You could cut this movie to 90 minutes and with some fixes and tweaks it would be loads better.

The only thing i can think is there'd be no cold war references. The only reason I think it's set in 1984 is because it's referencing the dystopian novel of the same name. But your right. Could've been set in a later date and nothing would really change!

Finally watched it (the movie just recently became available here in Germany). I was kind of primed to hate it from what I'd been hearing, but actually found myself enjoying the first half hour or so quite a lot. The goofiness of the first action scene stayed squarely in Donner territory and thankfully never quite crossed the line into Lester-land, and I felt the movie was getting a lot right about Wonder Woman's character while having a lot of fun with her. I liked Barbara Minerva's character, even though she was kind of a familiar superhero movie villain trope and I enjoyed Pedro Pascal as Max Lord. So I started to feel maybe I'd been misled and this movie was kind of awesome ... But then it started going downhill really quickly. I would've forgiven the problematic return of Steve Trevor if that was all that was wrong with this movie, but there was so much more that broke my enjoyment of it. The plot just fell apart like a Jenga tower and some of the action was just laughably badly staged, which was a real surprise after the first movie and the first couple of scenes of this one. I feel sorry for the cast, because they were all pretty awesome. Gal Gadot remains a brilliant choice to play Wonder Woman, I enjoyed seeing Chris Pine back in this (even if his return was really badly plotted) and Kristen Wiig and Pascal both did a great job with some lame material. Considering that Patty Jenkins has been saying in interviews that this was her own true vision, without any interference from the studio, this is really disappointing. And honestly, I think the studio's public commitment to keeping her on for the next Wonder Woman movie now looks like a mistake.

I don't get why they didn't go the way of the TV show. They cast the same actor as Steve's descendant, and they could have easily shown the two of them slowly falling in love and having her come to terms with that.

They did show her going home. It's where she went when she first learned to fly. Then they showed her flying to the final battle. As for Cheetah, I don't know why she became Cheetah. I heard Maxwell Lord wishing her some power or something, but definitely nothing to do with turning into an animal. I was expecting him to say "apex predator" like she did but he didn't.

Yeah, they really should have cut that out. Have Max give up his wish which also erases all the wishes he gave. Simpler and more believable then every person on earth giving up their wish. They literally say that it will all be reversed if the stone is destroyed and him revoking his wish is destroying the stone so it even had an in universe explanation lol They just decided to ignore that because they really wanted that cheesy montage of people revoking their wishes.

They should have told the story of the dream stone in the opening sequence to make it more believeable instead of the young diana sequence.
Yeah, this movie had a big problem with the clunky way it delivered exposition. Like how they introduced her golden armor; she might as well have just said “Oh that? Yeah it’s a new costume I’ll be wearing during the finale. Anyway...”
The young Diana part was the best bit of the whole movie.

I thought about what he said about how the opening sequence relates to the rest of the story and I disagree, I don't think the shortcut lesson was for Diana I think it was for Lord and minerva. They were trying to get, through a wish, things they could have gotten with hard work and time. What Diana wanted however, she couldn't get any other way.
This! Like how in the hell are we supposed to believe a normal guy like Maxwell Lord is willing to risk everything on an old wives tale myth about some magic stone? lmao. There has never been any indication in the DCEU world outside the confined moments during WWI where WW fought Ares that magic exist in the modern world.
If it were the comics, what would have happened is the Duke of Destruction (who created the Dreamstone) who is the henchman of Ares and a demigod himself, woulda been pissed Diana defeated Ares in WWI and had been plotting to get his revenge and since he can manipulate or inspire human's minds, somehow got into Maxwell Lord's and put in the desire to discover the Dreamstone. Bam simple as that.
Wonder Woman 84 & Thor: Love & Thunder have many weird similarities for some reason. Love interest returns, good guy turns into a villain, wish granting etc.
All that being said, what surprised me the most is that the same directors (Patty Jenkins & Taika Waititi) have made better movies before with the same character, plus both of them have writing credit this time around. WTH...
Yeah I also wanted to love this movie. I love what Patty Jenkins did with Wonder Woman's origins movie. I love how there was nothing cheesy about it. It was a superhero movie it was dark it was gritty it was foreboding. Wonder Woman was fucking bad ass in the first movie. Her superhero score gives me chills every time I hear it. WW84 is exactly how you explained it to be. A movie that looks like it was filmed in 1984. There were scenes where I could see wires connected to Wonder Woman. When she saves the little boy and rolls down the middle of a highway you can tell that it is a straight up mannequin She is grabbing. Just very disappointing!

I can't believe the directors, producers, and actors watched a screening of this movie and actually thought it was good enough to release to the public.
Well a lot of critics who got to see at the cinema liked it.
I think by the time they had seen the finished product it was too late to change the entire movie (because there were only a few parts of this movie that I would consider worth keeping and the rest should have honestly been scraped). But then again that raises the question of why, before even filming, these people looked at the script and thought “hey this is pretty good”.

This is the problem with the DCEU. They tried to compete with Marvel's MCU but wanted to have their big Avengers team-up stuff right away instead of putting the groundwork in first. So now the whole thing has splintered and they're churning out standalone films that can't even decide whether or not they're part of a shared universe anymore. The result is an endless stream of uninspired junk that would have been considered passably mediocre 20 years ago, let alone now.

this movie was A1 trash. the plot was terrible, ending was terrible, and there was one scene where she falls on kid in the middle of the street (and the kids reaction afterwards was the funniest part)
Setting her in the 80s sounds so cool. Like she chases a group of criminals into a nightclub. She walks across a dance floor with Blue Monday pumping in the background and everyone just stares at this strange warrior woman. That'd be a cool scene imo

The one that really stood out to me was when Diana was lassoing planes and lightning and cycling through a bunch of flying poses, then suddenly it cuts to her grabbing the golden armor from her apartment, then cuts back to her showing up at the boss fight.
Great, so it's not just me. Like when she tosses that guy in the air and then suddenly she's holding him by the ankle.

Haha! That's because you perhaps saw the WW84 movie prior to WashedUp DC Jan 6th To those of us who watched Gal and "Steve" forever after the LIVE Remake of *The* *War* *of* *1812* on January 6th, this Wonder Woman movie makes complete sense.
Perhaps I lowered my expectations after all the negative reviews, but in my personal opinion I though WW84 was ok.
It was different that it had a more "personal" arc to the stories and characters.
+ Definitely felt for the "gold" guy as he was trying to be a successful father in the eyes of his son all along
+ The idea that ancient gods still have an influence in modern times
+ Cheetah had some motivation as to why the way she is.
+ Good and touching explanation where WW got her abilities to fly
+ a little annoyed from the previews that WW's old love interest would miraculously be alive in '84, but it was handled quite well and "made sense"
- The concept "Careful what you wish for' was pretty good, just resolved a little too hokey, but it could have been worse if they went with the "It never happened or everyone forgot about it" approach.
I felt the same way, I can see the flaws but there's plenty to like, it just needed one more script edit and a better final cut.

I really agree with your points. I did enjoy this movie because in my mind it was mindless. I didn’t have to think about the plot at all or really care. The cinematography was great, actions sequences well choreographed, and the acting is A list acting. However you’re correct on plot and the film having extreme clichés. What kills movies like this is their need to have to exist in a universe now. If this was a standalone Wonder Woman film that wasn’t a part of the DCEU I would’ve loved it way more.

I'm tired of movies using the "nerdy ugly duckling" cliche. It's trying to tell us that these (people who are gorgeous btw) aren't attractive because they're nerdy. If you saw a woman who looks like Kristen Wiig drop all of her books on the ground, would you be like "nah she's nerdy so I'm not going to help her." Or would you like "OMG let me help this girl who looks like Kristen Wiig." It's not believable that the characters in the movie would treat her so badly in the beginning.

I'm not sold on this take ... As in: it didn't seem to me that those 2 dudes were walking away from helping Wiig because "nerdiness" but rather that their behaviour was in line with a thesis supported by many, many, many other scenes in WW84 - to wit: the male gender are essentially horrible human beings. That through-line supported by the shocking number of scenes where women are sexually harassed and/or assaulted.

@Ruby Barber While I would not qualify 2020 as being an especially good year it 100% had some real benefits, gave me a lot of time to process things I was too busy to really deal with and get over a very long term funk after a bad breakup from a 10 year long relationship.
Being locked down forced me to confront and deal with my pain and eventually find peace; so while the year has been a disaster there was some silver lining.

Guy Pierce in Ironman was alright though.

Nothing against DC fans out here but most of their fighting scenes are done nighttime. Sometimes I can't see anything because it's too dark even if I'm already wearing my glasses. That's why I prefer Marvel when it comes to editing and story line because it makes a lot more sense.
Remember that time when the Avenger when back in time to get the Stone's from all over time but for some reason they didn't go back before Thanos destroy them, or nebula getting caught by thanos even though she have the time watch to go back to her own time but for some reason she didn't used it.
I could go on but i think you get what i mean. Both Marvel and DC moives do not make sense at time. I really care that much for them now. They good to watch if you went something to do if you don't have anything to do at that moment.

The reason why the stones got destroy the second time because thanos didn't went to be all powerful god with the stones the temptation to used again was to great he couldn't trust himself with that power much power.
