If you are referring to the left hand thing I believe it was episode 1 when that happened and never happened again and fall of Cybertron did the same he had two hands but grimlock bit the left one off so as for the cartoon he probably lost it in an experiment off camera or something
You were the chosen one Optibotimus!!! You were the one reviewer so far that showed us there is a lock in shockwave's head!!!! Thank you so much for that!!
+ Thanks for another great review Paul! I was on the fence about Quake Wave ever since this guy was announced and to be completely honest, I held out until the bitter end. I think a lot of people are on the fence with this guy and soon as word catches on, MP-29 will sell out everywhere. I too like to support the official releases but with that said, Apollyon reigns on my masterpiece shelf. I too totally go for the G1 cartoon aesthetic and I think this guy gets that check mark way more-so than Quake Wave. Thanks for bringing us the first quality review on this guy! You got the touch brother!
+Nerdy Transformed lol it just so happened that this was the day that my schedule for this fell on. I've done April Fools day jokes before, i just haven't had time in recent years.
Fantastic review Paul!!! I've been waiting for this review. I never bought either one of 3rd party figures because I wanted to see how this turned out. For me this is the Shock Wave for my,collection simply due to the cartoon accuracy. Thank you so much for showing the clips from the cartoon and for reviewing this figure. Ill be picking one up ASAP!!!
@optibotimus the small himself’s gun, it’s to use playing putting in another toy’s hands... like Megatron when transform into a gun and Starscream carry he in his hand. I guess Megatron comes with a small gun too. It’s a great idea, and all toys (Soundwave, Blaster, Perceptor, Reflector) that was created in human real size when transform, comes in a small size too to put in a toy hands like a cartoon.
He looks promising, I'm hoping he joins my collection next week. He's a cheaper option for those of us who can't afford the third party offerings. There are some sound issues with the review, it seems to pop and crackle at points.
+Mark Drennan I don't really get how he looks "100 times better". He doesn't. He looks almost exactly the same, the biggest difference are the legs and the Masterpiece one is cartoon accurate whereas Fans Toys isn't. And Quakewave only costs less because it's been reissued over and over. It was over $200 when it was first released.
+optibotimus A hundred times may be an exaggeration. But the deeper color reissue and the light up eye just look tremendously iconic. Regarding cost, I don't care what it cost at some other time, I care about now. At BIg Bad Toy Store, you save $5 to get what seems obviously the superior figure. I hear you on the legs, but it's extremes. Quakewave might be slightly bulky, but this one is way too skinny (at least head on) and seems cheap. If I seem passionate here it's not anything other that my huge disappointment in Takara. They clearly don't have the live for this line that I thought they did.
To be G1 cartoon accurate, I think the feet should be twice as wide. Now the market is truly competitive where 3rd party and Takara products are priced about the same. It's a great time to be a collector, as long as you can afford it, and have room...wife permitting!
I like my FT-03T Quakewave, so I have no intention of selling mine (got him new less than a week ago from an eBay seller selling his in favor of this figure as a matter of fact). Maybe one of these days I'll sit down and marathon G1 properly so I'll know what I should expect of Takara/Tomy when the Masterpiece of each character is released. I grew up with the Unicron trilogy and actually haven't been properly initiated in all things G1. Up to this point I've collected one of each MP mold mainly with the mindset of enjoying high-end Transformer figures and not being too picky about all the various things fans debate about (Magnus' butt-flap and Ironhide's hip-kibble doesn't really bother me as an example). The only ones I've been disappointed by thus far are MP-5 (even I know enough about G1 to know Megs doesn't look like he's anorexic), MP-03 (G1 Starscream most definitely wasn't a samurai-type with the hip-skirts; leave that to Armada Starscream), and MP-25 Tracks (I don't know much about the character, but his MP feels of lesser quality than the Datsun or Lancia molds). I've also been content to go with the cheaper version of some of the pricier MPs: my MP-01 is a 1st run, but he had a damaged piece so I got him for much cheaper on eBay than he would normally go for (I have replaced the broken piece and he's essentially flawless now), my Hasbro MP-03 has loose joints and the previous owner modded him to where the hip kibble can only attach to his legs as he removed the ball joints on the waist, my Hasbro MP-09 is fine but has some slight chipping on his chrome, I got the YOTH MP-10 Prime before his price got marked up on the aftermarket, and my MP-12, 14, 15, 17, 20, and 21 are knock-offs. My Masterpiece collection may not be as polished or pretty as some other peoples', but I'm perfectly happy with it. I'll happily display MP-29, Quakeblast when I get him, and my Quakewave together as well even though their colors/aesthetics are worlds apart.
btw as far as I know the code on the grey paper is used for prize draw that exclusively available in Japan, and only japanese-released masterpiece version have these grey paper.
I am close to buying this guy and I really like the look of him. My only slight gripe is the lighter color than my G1 version. I wonder if Takara will eventually release a darker version.
Thanks for the vid, had to come here to find out how to transform his legs back... the instructions in black and white are challenging to follow in reverse heh
I did the same thing you did got rid of my quakewave!! I prefer an official masterpiece shockwave can't wait to get mine next week a long with masterpiece ramjet!! awesome review!!
I wouldn't be surprised if they made a repaint kind of like they did with Prime, Soundwave, Ultra Magnus etc. I think that would be a MP-29T or some crazy name.
I'm curious if you'll be getting the new MP-29+. Not sure if I really want to spend additional money just to get the same MP but in toy accurate colors. Maybe if there were some additional bells and whistles :-/
Both Megatron and Shockwave are roughly 2 heads taller then each of the seekers and other normal-sizes decepticons. Soundwave is 1 head taller then Star Scream, a.k.a Seeker.. But i get my measurements from the G1 comics from the 80's.
You do great reviews. You and peaugh. Keep the vids coming, please. I just started collecting with the Masterpiece series. I'm curious about a couple of things though. 1) Do you normally get two figures (of the same) for display, or one. 2) At this point in the Masterpiece line, who are the top five Transformers that you'd like to see done by Takara?
Mine should be coming in the next few days. Excellent review as always! That transformation is just so complex! So happy it doesn't parts form like Quakewave did. Makes me glad I sold my Quakewave when he was announced. I'm hoping that MP-30 or MP-31 is a new Megatron because I'm not a fan of Apollyon.
+Brendan Callinan Watch the video again. The completed backpack on MP Shockwave is definitely parts forming. While I agree that Quakewave is also parts forming, QW does not have a "leftover" piece in alt mode. I appreciate that QW uses all parts in both modes. MP SW's extra piece as something useful is nice, but it's still an extra piece, and something to be kept up with when playing with alt mode as intended, as a space gun. You can be happy with your choice to sell QW, but don't pass it off as inferior to MP SW for parts forming. I too have MP Shockwave on the way, but really appreciate Quakewave. BTW - Apollyon looks great squared off against MP-10 or surrounded by MP Seekers, MP Soundwave, DX9 Chigurh, and FT Quakewave, Spotter and BugCons, while we all wait for HasTak to get around to an in-scale version of Megatron. The 3rd parties have really been producing some great products. IMO Apollyon fills a need, very nicely.
+db ae14 well I meant the stand you really don't need to have on him. Nothing against third parties I just don't like Apollyon. I love all my third parties (BC Insecticons, DX9 Astrotrain, BC Sunstreaker, Oversized MP-08 Grimlock, MMC DJD and tons of others). Just none of the Megatron's teased from any of the 3p companies have impressed me yet besides the one from Boldform which is a triple changer. I am still having hope for the TT release
+Brendan Callinan I waffled on Apollyon, but am happy I eventually pulled the trigger. Even with a QC issue on mine (XTB sent a replacement part out ASAP), I have enjoyed displaying him. I feel the same way with Jazz, waiting for the "inevitable" MP release. 3rd party Hova has me interested but something about it just isn't right. Maybe its just that I think Jazz is not Jay Z and that somehow has soured me on the whole project.
I skipped the transformation because i plan on experiencing it myself, but this looks really good, i'm probably going to get this at botcon, love that lavender and who knows hasbro could end up giving us a darker one that looks more like the toy or takara at a later date or even a "shack"wave based on the gun metal grey astro magnum with the red eye
I've just got my takara masterpiece shockwave an I gotta say that it is awesome toy has some die-cast and it looks cartoon accurate!! I'm very happy to get this shockwave
too bad I skipped this figure as I purchased the Fanstoys version. not that I'm disappointed but the Takara version is much more cartoon accurate. overall I'm very happy with my Quakewave nonetheless. it's amazing how they all transform in the same manner as the original from 32 years ago. great review as always.
Cool review as always Paul, I dunno I'm just not feeling this official Shocks. I do like Quakewave a lot more (especially that LED in the head) so I know he'll be staying on my shelf lol Will you also be reviewing Ramjet?
Top five that I wish Takara would get done already! 1) Jazz 2) Inferno 3) *Any other Dinobot! 4) Blitzwing 5) Megatron (in scale with MP-10). Would be AWESOME if that ended up being MP-38.
I don't think the scale is all that off. Was watching the 86 movie and he seemed a tad shorter then Soundwave in the beginning. Hard to really gage due to Shockwave never really sharing a lot of screen time with the other characters. I'm all in for this, always official over 3rd party. Quakewave is nice but mine will be moving on.
You know what say what you want about the figure i love it except for the stickers yeah wish they tampagraphed them on but i wish shockwave came with a control center
+pious83 in my country where no Takara masterpiece figures are sold at all, there is this one shop selling the last Takara Soundwave masterpiece left in my country so im planning to get it. thanks for the suggestion!
Thanks for the review. He looks great in bot mode, I do wish he were a tad taller. In my imagination, I always saw Shockwave as one of the taller Decepticons. I feel Takara Tomy failed with the alt mode. Those gaps do not equate to a Masterpiece figure. I also hate that the "salute" pose is more of an illusion. Again, that does not show me a Masterpiece level of detail. Soundwave is able to eject his minions. Those little details separate the Masterpiece line. I don't know how I feel about the new crop of MP figures. Iron Hide and Hot Rod are not immediate buys for me. Not sure if this guy falls in that category or not. My very last MP figure that I preordered and stuck with was Ultra Magnus. The butt flap is a minor nuisance, minor. These figures cost a lot of money and carry the Masterpiece title, I feel they need to deliver on as many levels as possible. Thanks again for the thorough review.
I am disappointed with the feet. It seems like they could have made a broader foot. I agree with you about the gaping holes in the alt mode. That could have been easily covered.
I don't understand the pricing for Takara Masterpiece figures. MP Ironhide came with so much more and cost much less. MP Shockwave is nearly the same size as Ironhide in bot mode. May be it has more to do with the markup price?
Stormrider X personally i think it has to with the perceived popularity of the character. Also shockwave was made with purely plastic. John garringer did a review of shockwave where he talks about this. Just youtube his name.
finally I have mine in hand and it's really underwhelming. I'm a huge Shockwave fan so much so that I did buy the Quakewave and the feeling I had when I got it in hand was one of child hood excitement. I wanted to have the same reaction with the Official and I didn't. Even though it's look is slightly more cartoon accurate the quality feels like it's a down grade. I'm having trouble keeping his legs pegged in and the hip joints are loose. But my biggest disappointment is the colors the purple to light and the gray plastic is so bland. 160 dollar figure come on some silver or even a nice gray paint would have been appreciated. I feel they could have done away with a lot of the extras and spent more effort on the figure it self. The one thing they did do right was the stand good thing because this guy is staying in gun mode my Quakewave will keep his place in my MP display. What a shame I really wanted to be blown away with Shockwave. Takara has been a let down in the recent releases so much so that I'm having to go the third party route. Cool video glad you liked yours. Cheers
I think he's the most affordable out of the three options and he does look impressive but I don't have one so as far as the quality personally I can't comment but everyone who has one said it's better than Quakewave. It's obvious they borrowed the engineering from Quakewave and where able to improve on some aspects and sell it at a low cost but he seems to be an even more stylised Shockwave not a bad look but if he's going into your MP collection don't know if he's going to fit in but he does look very imposing. I'm actually considering on buying one to check it out.
Takaratomy, turning animation errors into accessories.
lol
+Brandon Gutierrez lol
XD Well Sunbow turned animation errors into palette swapped characters, so it's all good in the end.
D10 Raging Mountain you mean that tiny shock wave that in the cartoon he held himself
If you are referring to the left hand thing I believe it was episode 1 when that happened and never happened again and fall of Cybertron did the same he had two hands but grimlock bit the left one off so as for the cartoon he probably lost it in an experiment off camera or something
I know it's a couple years too late, but it's fantastic they made the gun collar part of the transformation rather than a separate piece.
If they ever make a Masterpiece Bruticus (though possibly not likely), he could use that small Shockwave to recreate that one episode of G1
It'd be too small since the gun is in scale with normal sized figures and bruticus' hands would be too big
Gamestyle2004 Touche
+Casimus Prime what?
Gamestyle2004 It's a French word. It's a fancy way of saying "valid argument"
+Casimus Prime yeah I know French (I'm French) I'm just curious of why use French :) lol
You were the chosen one Optibotimus!!! You were the one reviewer so far that showed us there is a lock in shockwave's head!!!! Thank you so much for that!!
Yup. Sold my Quakewave to find this bad boy. 0 regrets too ! THIS IS the figure I always wanted . THANK YOU TAKARA !
HAWKSFAN79 couldn't agree more as I also sold mine to get this
No joke, was scared this was an April fools joke
Zachary Havlock I thought he didn't really have shockwave, maybe that he was just messing with us :P
+Foober Dooge This is not an April Fool's Joke. Laserwave has been available since March 26th, 2016.
Mustavi Sadi Aryan I know
Finally I was waiting for this review
I never realized the Cartoon accurate Con stickers were a thing. I think you are the first person to show them off long enough for me to notice.
This figure destroys all others. Period.
Hmm..pretty... LOGICAL!
Facts!!!!
+ Thanks for another great review Paul! I was on the fence about Quake Wave ever since this guy was announced and to be completely honest, I held out until the bitter end. Great review, Paul. His robot mode is a thing of beauty. Can't wait to get my hands on this guy.
I was worried this was gonna be another joke. Baltmatrix and Optibotimus take their reviews seriously lol
+Nerdy Transformed lol it just so happened that this was the day that my schedule for this fell on. I've done April Fools day jokes before, i just haven't had time in recent years.
I want a Masterpiece Galvatron so bad.
I am so with you!!!
tyler cousins )
I am with you as well. I have been waiting so long for a Galvatron
I would like to see an official MP Hound, then maybe Trailbreaker/Hoist, and Inferno/Grapple.
Andrew Walters I want an mp warpath
I hope Hasbro makes him toy accurate. I like the darker purple on him.
Boy does takara tomy have some good news for you, that is if you're willing to pay twice this figures cost
Amazing review, Optibotimus! Keep up the good work. Cannot wait to see your MP-30 Ratchet review. :D
"He held himself"
That sounds really wrong
Shockwave was really badass in the Marvel Comic; a relentless, evil Mr. Spock. And who could forget that issue cover for Marvel's The Transformers #5?
When Shockwave is standing next to Soundwave In Transformers the Movie, it appears Soundwave is taller.
Damn dude, your video quality is superb. Great review by the way.
+Jason Watts Thank you very much and thanks for watching! :)
Ох, наконец-то Шоквейв вышел в продажу! И как же круто, что мои опасения по поводу этой фигурки не оправдались.
Among all the video reviewers you are always my favourite :) Thanks for sharing
+yiheng yu Thanks for watching! :)

Quakewave costs less and looks a hundred times better.

+Mark Drennan Err, that was "they don't have the love for this line".
23:05 actually the backpack was meant to be lower not higher
I'm getting mine this week a long with masterpiece ramjet can't wait
"Shockwave this Shockwave that. All I ever hear about is great Shockwave is!!!" Classic!
Shockwave is an ideal soldier; he's both humble AND respectful.
I'm glad they finally released this figure. I haven't been able to order him yet, but I hope to do so soon. Great job Optibotimus.

+cadsux I think the feet are done the way they are to match with the toy a bit. It's a happy balance i feel.
I like my FT-03T Quakewave, so I have no intention of selling mine (got him new less than a week ago from an eBay seller selling his in favor of this figure as a matter of fact). +Horzzo well this is the cartoon version
Yeah considering takaras priorities in making different figures I doubt they'd go back just to make mp29 slightly darker
Thanks for the vid, had to come here to find out how to transform his legs back... the instructions in black and white are challenging to follow in reverse heh
Should I stick the stickers?
I did the same thing you did got rid of my quakewave!! I prefer an official masterpiece shockwave can't wait to get mine next week a long with masterpiece ramjet!! awesome review!!
I wish the purple was darker, not sure I am comfortable with how loose / easy it is to remove hands- easy to loose.
I wouldn't be surprised if they made a repaint kind of like they did with Prime, Soundwave, Ultra Magnus etc. I think that would be a MP-29T or some crazy name.
You can also take all the hands and store it in the backpack in robot mode i saw thats in another review
I think they gave the mini Shockwave gun so you can put him in Megatron's hand or Star Scream's hand! Just an idea
Yes no more April fools videos all the videos in my sub box are all jokes
Well look like I'll be returning this as soon as it comes
So glad I cancelled my preorder. This looks like trash.
Opti plz answer my question
Should I buy this figure
I love him but his legs are really loose .
Plz answer my question.

This video just changed my phone background to a picture of shockwave....
I so badly want one. And I believe his gun mode is called the Astro magnum.
To honest I really like that he has a little wave because shockwave should be a mass shifter and if you want him to be a mass shifter there ya go
im kinda worried about that ball joint in the neck when time comes. to lock the head in robot mode you have to force it by pulling up
Hi, getting this for my 40th this month off my partner, is it definitely AAA or are they AA is I'm sure another review said AA. Great review btw
I got mine today, it doesn't light up when I push the gun trigger, do you possibly know why? battery is too old?
Woot! I'm loving the cartoon accurate stickers.
Would you happen to know if this one will be released in the united states like bumblebee and soundwave?
I've just got my takara masterpiece shockwave an I gotta say that it is awesome toy has some die-cast and it looks cartoon accurate!! I'm very happy to get this shockwave
too bad I skipped this figure as I purchased the Fanstoys version. not that I'm disappointed but the Takara version is much more cartoon accurate. overall I'm very happy with my Quakewave nonetheless. it's amazing how they all transform in the same manner as the original from 32 years ago. great review as always.
Maybe the Shockwave gun accessory is for other characters holding him, cause you know how when Megatron and Shockwave transform they shrink.
Fly Sinner It's an homage to an animation error from the G1 cartoon.
What episode is that?
Desertion of the Dinobots.
Thank You
Great review as always 👍🏻👍🏻 Shockwave looks so sweet 😱😱
I do find the recent Masterpieces lack something. Hot Rod, Ironhide are not in League with Soundwave and the Autobot Cars.
Cool review as always Paul, I dunno I'm just not feeling this official Shocks. I do like Quakewave a lot more (especially that LED in the head) so I know he'll be staying on my shelf lol
Will you also be reviewing Ramjet?
+lordginge2010 Yup, it'll be up Monday
my dad bought a hot rod tomy thigger and its way more better then the other one. these Transformers are way more better then the other ones
Top five that I wish Takara would get done already!
1) Jazz
2) Inferno
3) *Any other Dinobot!
4) Blitzwing
5) Megatron (in scale with MP-10). Would be AWESOME if that ended up being MP-38.
+kensmith221 I think you can forget another megatron, I don't see it happening. Or another dinobot.
bandoogiemanz mp 36 lol
Will you get that Optimus Primal when it comes out?
+Joseph Riley Yup!
Great review and keep up the good work :)
Ps. u put the link to hod rod instead of shockwave
+Gunz Linger I fixed it, you should still be able to find shockwave though with that link :) Thanks for watching and your support!
I don't think the scale is all that off. Was watching the 86 movie and he seemed a tad shorter then Soundwave in the beginning. You know what say what you want about the figure i love it except for the stickers yeah wish they tampagraphed them on but i wish shockwave came with a control center
in your opinion, what is the best masterpiece figure?
I'd say Soundwave. Although MP-36 Megatron might change my opinion. Second place would go to Ultra Magnus.
+pious83 in my country where no Takara masterpiece figures are sold at all, there is this one shop selling the last Takara Soundwave masterpiece left in my country so im planning to get it. thanks for the suggestion!
+Gee Em Good luck, you won't be disappointed.
Was hoping for a side by side to Quakewave, still good review. Thanks.
Come on Takara! We are way overdue for MP Galvatron. I've been waiting for a show accurate Galvatron for so long...
I wonder if you have a Shackwave (the Radio Shack KO of Shockwave).
VulpisFoxfire Shackwave was official. He's not a KO.
VulpisFoxfire Some would say the g1 shockwave is a ko of the Shackwave.
they did a great job
Hell yeah they should do Megatron! They already have the engineering to do this so i don't see why not.
I would love to see a new MP Megatron, even if it's not as a gun. Maybe the usual tank mode nowadays....
extremely nice. good review. makes me wanna add him to my mp5 Megatron and my kbb model optimus.
trade it for a g1 cyclonus?
it has my improvization at the hand, they fall all the time
Shockwave: My toy is so cool I have one myself
Lol that tf wiki reference
Correction, you heard about a new release and after a bet from a friend you sold Quakewave before seeing mp Shockwave. You. Have converted me
i want a larger version of masterpiece grimlock to get the scale correct
I own both love and the 1984 one there all badass to own but out of the 3 mp is on the dot for me and I'm a HUGE shockwave fan if that helps
I am disappointed with the feet. It seems like they could have made a broader foot. I agree with you about the gaping holes in the alt mode. That could have been easily covered.
+Stormrider X Yep. This figure is okay, I'm just not sure if it's $160 okay.
I need a masterpiece figure. Any recommendations?
If you want lowest price I can recommend mp bumblebee
got him on order:) thanks for the review
FINALLY!!! He's here!
comparisons would've been so helpful. I'm going with FT Quake wave.
+tomi christian I did do comparisons
It would A-MAZING if they did a new mp megatron!!!
Yeah one with a robot mode
William Cowley your dreams have come true.
Russell West lol right
Nice but is it worth its pricepoint?
+Captain America Depends where you get him from
I remember him using a blaster that was himself in the cartoon
How much for cliffjumpr?
I had to find this video just because I couldn’t get the legs right
Love your vids been watching you since tfp
finally I have mine in hand and it's really underwhelming. Cheers
+Eugene Robledo Yeah me too i am let down. What you think about quakeblast?
I think he's the most affordable out of the three options and he does look impressive but I don't have one so as far as the quality personally I can't comment but everyone who has one said it's better than Quakewave. It's obvious they borrowed the engineering from Quakewave and where able to improve on some aspects and sell it at a low cost but he seems to be an even more stylised Shockwave not a bad look but if he's going into your MP collection don't know if he's going to fit in but he does look very imposing. I'm actually considering on buying one to check it out.
Honestly I prefer the robot mode of mp 29 but the gun is ... Ok
11:57 Ahhhhhh ! just like The Lego Batman Movie aye? "peow peow peow peow peow peow peow!!!" Right??
excellent figure
Hmm... engineering (quakewave) vs robot mode (this guy)... I'm not sure which I value more. Eh, I'll never be able to own either of them anyway.
Comparison with Quakewave?
he said in the video that he sold it
Spacegamer 64 ah
Bad move. I expect some people who canceled their Quakewave wish they hadn't.
+Dennis E It's all personal preference. I have zero regrets selling Quakewave
+optibotimus Sure, I get that. Different people like different things.
I just can't help being a little disappointed by this Shockwave.
Will definitely be a part of my collection
he can confuse his enemies by shooting them with himself
Is this real? Is this fake? I can't tell cause it's April 1st and I'm paranoid as hell
It's real, I got mine delivered today
