I've been checking daily for this review and it was well worth the wait. You never fail to give such a balanced and compete review of these figures. Mine should arrive this week and I'm concerned about the issues you've highlighted but the look of him in bot mode is going to be the most important part and because of that I can't wait to get him on display. Having the wife and kids skits are what keeps it real Uncle Skullface. The way they handle both the backpack/gun barrel as well as the legs/handle gun butt transformation and packaging is the best I have ever seen for good old Shocky. I love this color, it' my favorite to paint Decepticons.

Thanks for the honest and informative review. For me personally this is the guy for my collection due to his accurate G1 look. Also his accessories are so obscure but accurate that you have to love the fan service. There was actually one episode where he was shooting with a small version of himself and a couple of episodes where he had two hands instead of the cannon arm. Also I would of prefered the stickers be applied but I love that they give us the two different con symbols that were being used on show at the time as well as the Japanese destron symbol. Its this type of fan service that makes this the Shock Wave for me!!!

Bobby Skullface, that's what, I think, a lot of us like about you. You're an honest guy and I can relate to you. Collecting toys is an expensive hobby and when you're dishing out big bucks for a toy, you kinda expect it to live up to the price. Great review, as always. Keep up the good work, man!
Great review! Was nice meeting you this weekend at NJCC (I was the one with the chipped lazerwave wire). I was so disappointed when you pointed out the chipping (I didn't notice it at first). Your quick eye for detail is impressive. I think people got a little too handsy when I loaned it out to 215toyz to show the comparisons. More Wife skits !!
Whether I agree or not with you it's always great to hear your thoughts because you don't just say what every other reviewer says and you actually give an opinion as apposed to just doing a how to guide which many do. Great review, very enjoyable
I just pulled mine out of storage, and I'll tell you, every joint that is not a ratchet is super loose, and I think if I tighten these screws anymore they are just going to strip. My FTs Quakewave has been out on display for quite some time, been transformed several times, been manipulated many times, and is holding up so much better.
Honestly, I'd always imagined Shockwave as being the same size as Megatron. If they made this toy the same size, with the same quality of materials as Quakewave, possibly with a light-up eye and flashing lights & sounds like G1 Shockwave, even at a higher price point, I would have had to buy it. As it is, I'm likely gonna pass on this one. Thanks for the great review.

This is a very fair review which I've come to expect from you. Your honesty is why you're my go to guy for transformers reviews. I personally I would have traded the electronics and light piped eye for some more paint and maybe some ratchets in the hips. Other than that I do like this figure and think he looks great on my MP shelf
I think we were all spoiled by getting Quakewave first. He's is so well made, that it's hard not to be a little disappointed by the lack of paint, cheap feel, and dainty features of MP-29. He's definitely cartoon accurate, and that usually does it for me - but this time I really just prefer the 3rd party offering. FT03 is staying on my MP shelf, and MP-29 will have nice spot by my Leader class CHUGs, right in between CW Megatron and TR Soundwave.
You're in my top three of reviewers, glad you did this guy. I've been watching a few Shockwave reviews today and yours feels the most honest. Not having one in hand all I can do is say how the reviews and photos make me feel about him: good but still underwhelming. I edon't know, he looks kind of "cheap" (not like KO cheap or hasbro hallow cheap) as an MP figure, too much like a "toy." He would be perfect to me had he been something like a Leader class Generations figure at the time of Springer's wave. Today I will be ordering a Quakeblast. Him and Quakvewave are more like the Shockwave I know (grew up with '84 but only got back into TFs with Beast Wars and continue to love them cause of IDW).
Your my fav reviewer too, there are a few reasons, but the main one is that I appriciate your criticality. I've been looking forward to your review in particular on this guy. Even though you ultimately opted for Laserwave, your review convinced me that I went the right way by cancelling my preorder and opting for Quakeblast. G1 aesthetic matters a lot to me, but it doea not trump all. For me, based on your reviews, I go with Quakeblast for size, color, tactile and materials quality and, icing on the cake, value proposition. Regarding us "imaging" he should be bigger, I agree, and I'm not interested in a short Shockwave. The reason we had the idea he was bigger is that our memories are heavily formed by the show, but also the G1 toys, and Shockwave was one of the biggest transformer toys of his time. So, for me, he has to stay that way.
Thanks for the review, I'll be sticking with Quakewave though. My perception of Shockwave is the 80s marvel comics version so this guy is way to small for me.
I could write a 10 paragraph comment on MP Shockwave but I'm not. All I have to say is that ever since Takara hired an all new design team last year; there products have been less than satisfying. I own Fanstoys Quakewave and I'm very happy and content with it. Great review as always, SF. 👍👍

with this review I've made my decision. quakewave all the way. it just seems like the takara version has a children's toy feel whereas quakewave is of superior quality. pure collector's item. thanks for the review, but in my opinion quakewave is Shockwave!

I completely agree with your comments comparing the bots. The Takara feels the most like a toy, least masterpiece like, and I'n not a fan of the gun mode at all, but his bot mode is the most G1. I am still saving a spot on my shelf for my Quakewave though. He is just made so well.
Star Saber is one of my favorite mp, and he has like 0 paint. I dont think good ole shocky is gonna bother me, as long as he has some shiny plastic. As always i enjoyed seeing your thoughts

recently I bought transformer called Fracture for my son and when I saw it first thing that I thought was this plastic would have been perfect for MP Shockwave it has metallic flake similar to MP Soundwave and color was just right to match the cartoon. I love his look and not to knock it down but he has a KO look to it. In the end I am getting it because I do want to complete my Season 1 and 2 official transformer collection. Don't think it will replace my Quakewave because it's what I as a child perceived how tall Shockwave was being almost as big as Megatron. Was anxious for review on this one I really do respect your opinion. Think I'll give him a shot who knows maybe he will replace Quakewave.
Loved the review, yoy made some strong points. I have to agree that his legs are were he falls apart as far as a quality figure. That being said, as a shockwave fan, I do like the look of this figure and I love going over to him and transforming him from time to time.
Dude, just THANK YOU ! I was so waiting for this figure and when I actually ended up to have my hands on it I was totally disappointed. I agree with you, Takara did not deliver to expectations this year (Tracks, Ironhide and now Shocky... I think only Ramjet is ok and he's simply a rework of the latest seeker mold). This Shockwave feels cheap as soon as you have it in hands, no paint, plastic quality is not up to the standards of older Takara figures. The gun mode definitely looks unfinished with this hollow back and handle, not to mention the look from beyond the barrel is horrendous. In robot mode, I agree with the G1 look, but that's simply it. I hate the "half feet" they gave him, the head mechanism feels like it's gonna break after 10 transformations, only the joints feel pretty solid. This figure feels like it has been over-rushed by Takara, and didn't get the TLC it should have from the company known for bringing top nutch quality figures (which to my mind is far from being the case anymore, FansToys and MakeToys (even Cloud9) prove a point this year that 3rd party companies can do a better job than Takara in terms of quality and G1 feel/look, and often with a similar or cheaper price tag. Concerning the accessories, I don't get the hands thing, the salute hand is just proof they went cheap, cause they could have provided two (one transluscent, one plain) fully articulated hands, but they went to the cheaper option of provided four with barely any articulation. Mini Shockwave gun is neat, though not enough to make me buy this figure. Although, as you said, this figure is not THAT bad, but it is not that great neither. Anyway, been watching other reviewers' videos, and I can't feel anything else but being "bullshitted"... They all love it, say it's a glorious figure, can't even seem to see the hollow legs, handle/back of the gun mode, nor any flaw in the figure, when it is so evident as soon as you have it in hands. YOU mister, ARE THE ONLY ONE being totally honest about it (and all the other figures you reviewed) and no wonder why you were voted best reviewer on TFW, people can feel you're talking from your heart and not because you want manufacturers to keep sending you production samples. Keep on the good job, and yes, the misses' interruptions are bringing even more life to your dynamic reviews, so ignore mister Rotten Apple and let him feel the Burn :P

After seeing everybody's review, I planned on selling him, but after having him in hand i actually like him. Breaks up the dullness of the dark decepticon colors on my Shelf and he looks good. Not the greatest, but he's not tracks. Kinda small, but even the build quality is better than I expected. 8/10 - we'll appreciate him more when all the other go animated feature think. That was the plan all along. ; )
+Gary sendaydiego Get them both. Quakewave is my Marvel Shockwave and Lazer will be my Sunbow. If you want a figure that can stand toe-to-toe with MP10 and an eventual MP Megatron done to scale then Lazerwave just won't cut it.

They are toy company not a electronic product company so they may outside work of electronic circuit to other company and make it too costly. another great video. also I feel honored that you would invite us into your home and let us meet your family. screw that other guy who doesn't like it as he can shuffle off somewhere else. anyway, the only real thing I have against this guy is the vhs (for reals?!) and all those holes that a couple of panels could have filled to make him more displayable.
I'm glad I held back on this. I'll be looking for a deal on quakewave. I don't like the color. He seems cheap. And the bulkier looking QW feels more like how I see shockwave in my minds eye/lizard brain/whatever. Toon accurate is a tough thing. Sometimes the toon looks shit. :)
Lazerwave is the Japanese name for Shockwave. the last designer is supposed to be coming back next year sometime. The stand as the back pack looks more like the cartoon. Shockwave was never a dynamic character. By the way you are the top dog when it comes to reviewers.
I actually showed my nephew a picture of Quakewave and Laserwave, and what he said was interesting. He's only eight. He thought Laserwave looked more like the cartoon, but he pointed out that the legs were too skinny compared to the rest of the body. And that's one of my biggest complaints about this figure. He looks too top heavy with these bony chicken leg bottoms. Those feet really bother me. In all the reviews I have seen, Laserwave just looks a little cheap to me as well. The grey paint on his calves may look nice, but I think the diecast metal on Quakewave looks much more premium. Of course, I agree that the most important thing is how the figure looks. However, this is where I will disagree with most everybody's assessment. Laserwave's body looks the most g1 cartoon like, but his face throws me off. If you go back and look at the cartoon, Shockwave's eye is not that big. The Quakewave face is the most cartoon accurate out of the three. People tend to be the most sensitive to facial recognition when it comes to identifying other people because it is our most distinguishing characteristic. I am that way when it comes to Transformers. Anyway, good thorough review. I look forward to seeing more of your wife in skits. Wait a minute. That didn't sound right for some reason.
Great review, buddy! Man, its still a couple of days before I get my own in the mail, but I've seen a few reviews on this one already. For the first time in the Transformers Masterpiece line, it seems to me that Takara just didn't give a damn about their product, and thats my biggest disappointment... Stickers??? What the hell?!? I can't believe that Im saying this, but maybe the 3rd party version is just as good of a way to go as far as this character goes. I meen... You have to apply stickers anyways, and you'll still have to watch out so you don't mess those up. Thats one less problem you'd have to deal with if it was tempographed on. Another thing is that stupid light up feature. I HATE batteries in my figures! And why start using lightpiping on a figure now, when they haven't done so on any of the others? If they're going to use batteries in the first place, why not use it on the head too? Just don't make any sense to me... If it wasn't for the fact that I want my MP shelp to be a pure Takara setup, I would have bought the 3rd party version. In my eyes, Takara totally bummed out on this MP... Such a shame, Takara! I sure hope that Takara won't make it a habbit with screwing up like this, dude... Besides from nailing the esthetics on this one, they messed up big time! It does not look like they gave this figure so much as a single second of love in my eyes, and thats disappointing since this is a character a lot of people have been waiting for, me included. They did so great on all of the Autobots and the few other Decepticons they have done so far. People have been waiting for more Decepticons, and they go ahead and do this?!? If I didn't know better, I would have said that this was a 3rd party figure... They could have spent a few bucks on paint too! I guess, on the bright side, you won't get any paint scratches on this one though. But what seems to miss the spotlight here, is that this could lead to a habbit were Takara could get the idea that we don't give a damn anyways, so we might see more cheap solutions like this in the future on other figures too. And THAT scares me, since I want to keep my MP shelf all official. If this was Takaras first MP figure, it could have made me decide to not get into this line at all. Its a dangerous game that Takara is playing here, because it was certain things that put Takara above the 3rd party figures in my opinion. In my eyes, Takara just handed a point over to the 3rd party companies. They better not complain if they loose customers to other companies when they do stuff like this. It makes me wonder which designer that is responsible for this blunder... If its the same one who designed Tracks, then fire the dude! If its the old one, well... He should freakin' know better than to do this! Quality wise, this must be the worst MP figure out of over 30 that they've done so far. And thats coming from someone that some people would call a "Takara fan boy". Im sorry Takara! But the 3rd party companies won the MP Shockwave "battle", and Im afraid that any 3rd party TF collector who says that the 3rd party version is better are right on this one. Get a grip, Takara! This was strike one for you in my book! PS! Everybody who says that you're the best reviewer, Bobby, they are right! There is no reviewer like the Skullface, dude! You're the man! Great review as always. Keeping it honest. He is the most G1 looking of the three. If you stand back and pretend you don't know anything about the character I think Quakeblast is head and shoulders above the Takara with Quakewave not far behind. The paint on Quakeblast makes the Lazerwave look like a toy to me which I know it is a toy but a toy can be a piece of art also. I may seem like a Quakeblast fanboy but at a fraction of the cost of the other two he takes it for me.
Another great review! I'm not sold on this official one either. Too bad it is short😂! I'd imagine Shockwave to be at least a head taller than Soundwave. I was not impress with the other two 3P.

It's definitely too expensive compared to other MPs of similar size, but it's also one we never thought we'd see. And it does look fantastic. This and Quakeblast both have spots in my collection and look great doing it. Pros and cons for all three. If I could wipe my arse with money, I'd get Quakewave too.
I love the cloud 9 version just looks menacing and great paint job. I feel that this could of been the same price as the most recent hotrod in that $70 to $80 Range. To me I'll stick to my cloud 9.
I feel the same way about 'em. looks great....but, I found myself complaining about the plastic and inner legs not pegging in very well...but he does look sweet!!
I know I have an unpopular opinion but I think emgo's reviews are closer to a train wreck - not a train wreck, but closer to it than skullface for sure. I don't think the wife skits have really changed the reviews at all; at least the skits change and evolve. I thought it was fantastic when you showed the picture of what shockwave's supposed to look like compared to megatron and soundwave. I think you're the first reviewer to do that, and I think it's critical to this figure's review. Very very nice job. Didn't realize how close he is to the actual picture. I like quakeblast the best of the three, but that's me - I couldn't care less about how close a figure is to the cartoon.
Hey Bobby I feel you about toon accuracy being of utmost importance for your collection. I dig that. Your review was straight forward and honest so props due. Se other reviews (Chosen Prime) made me sick when they said this feels better in hand than QW, Meanwhile this ish is flopping like a fish at the hips...UGH. That said..the price point for the official has me scratching my head a bit, in particular because of the build quality. As collectors are we giving this unit a pass because its official? Hope this topic comes up during the next SC episode. Would love to hear everyone's take. For me its an easy pass..Do better TT if you want my bread.

Until you see the light of fully articulated hands, you'll never be a good reviewer muwahahhahah. J/K, you're definition one of my fav reviewers keeping it real. I'm actually really looking forward to getting my takara shockwave, it's just one of those things and it looks well designed. I like the non-super beefed up look vs the 3p figures. One thing that bugs the hell out of me is the stickers. For figures like sideswipe g2 I understand, but shockwave? why not just go with standard 'con symbol? Having the cartoon symbol would just make it inconsistent with all the other figures in the line anyway.
While I'm a fan of diecast and electronic gimmicks I'd rather the budget have gone into paint in this case. It would have turned what I think is a good figure into a fantastic figure. Those stress marks concern me I better take a look at mine. Thanks as always Bobby!
When i saw the first pics of this guy. I wasn't crazy for it. Im still not crazy for it. I have the G1 since my childhood and now the 2nd QW. This don't come close to it.the size really bugs me and that color. No words. I wonder what those guys that cancelled their QW order or sold their QW. What do they say when they got this in hand. Do they regret it? Great review and I'm skipping this thing. Thanks
More wife skits! I'm pretty interested to mess with this once it comes in the mail, I've considered selling Quakewave if this thing fits some standards for me. Or just making quakewave a permanent gun lol.
The absolute thing that I became pissed with about this was the salute hand. Now, like you, I'm a "stand on the shelf and shut up" collector. My ultimate goal for this was for him to stand in his saluting pose from episode 1. I'd have been a happy guy. Can I be happy? NOPE. Why? Cause he can't get his arm in the proper position to do it satisfactory.

I mean come on...not only do we have an official Devy there are what? including Hulkie there are like 4 maybe 5 3rd party Devys?..its never been a better time to be a TF fan..if i dont like HasTaks offering chances are i can find a 3rd party figure of that dude...its great..
Very good review ! This figure is very good, but for me, 2 problems ! The foots(very small), and the color, is not the good color, the purple it's much too light! Good day or night! :-)

I feel like this is an 8/10 effort for a masterpiece. The feet in gun mode are horrendous. The gap in the back end of the gun is also bad, but at least it sort of makes sense based on the transformation. At least the robot mode doesn't have large gaps like Bumblebee and Tracks. It, at the very least feels like Takara gives half a shit about their products with Hotrod and Shockwave.
+Bobby “Skullface” Skullface L yeah, I understand about Hotrod. I didn't like him at first. I made a negative comment about his arm paint on your review. But, what turned me around on him was all the molded in detail and the transformation. They should NOT have added a matrix spot, and they SHOULD have done something different with that chest design. Cosplay indeed! But, I could feel love in that design. I think he's an 8/10 too. Not perfect but I like it. I also like it in car mode, where that flat chest doesn't matter at all. For those wanting the robot mode on their shelf, maybe not the one for you. There's also a 3rd party Hotrod coming out that might scratch the robot mode itch...
Man, I wish they would make a Shockwave the way he looked in the G1 Marvel comic. Comic number 5 with him on the cover and it says "The Transformers" and then it looks like Shockwave etched "are all dead" in the stone wall, is one of my favorite Transformers paintings. He was a darker color, he was as tall as Megatron in the comic, and he was more powerful than Megatron! That's the Shockwave I always loved as a kid, not the little Minion, Megatron crony from the G1 cartoon Shockwave.
The most expensive and underwhelming of the 3 MP Shockwaves. Quakeblast is the best value for money of the 3 with it's dark metallic paint job and a sculpt that makes it look just that little bit better than Quakewave, it's the leg detail that's the only real difference between Quakewave and Quakeblast. The Takara Tomy MP Shockwave looks too much like a toy and not something that an adult Transformers collector would want to have sharing shelf space alongside the superb third-party Dinobots and Insecticons that are selling at high prices that they deserve because they are more or less the definitive figures of those characters. What I would love to see would be a MP figure of FOC Shockwave done to the same standard as Quakeblast.
Its not G1 enough! It cost too much! Quakewave was was great until Takara made one. Quakeblast is better now because he cost less....people please this is BS! The one for you is the one YOU like period. Not because its more G1, because it cost less, or because Fanstoys made it, because YOU like it. Sure it's great to preview and no what you are getting before you invest your money, but I get so sick of these people who tell other people that product they will get will be the best. No. That's your opinion. To that guy that purchased the other product, his is the best....People remember that before they put water in bottles you drank tap.... I do like the overall sculpt/design of this figure but it just doesn't say masterpiece to me. And the purple plastic, no matter how screen accurate, looks too bright. I think a coat of the darker purple (like on the die-cast) would have looked better. I do enjoy the different transformation for this shockwave, though. I completely expected the same transformation as Quakewave or Quakeblast. Im not gonna buy this though. I'd rather stick to Quakeblast. The dark purple paint job is superb. He also mentioned something about a new company. I haven't heard anything about a new company, anyone know anything about that? I'd love to know.
For me this is the easiest pass on a MP so far. Quakewave will not be replaced in my collection. If anything its a gloryfied CHUG. Im still on the fence about keeping MP magnus over citizen stack with the head upgrade. Again like the MP11 molds with its flimsy soft plastic compared to the Igear seekers its an easy pass. Sometimes 3rd party is just better. I got MP28 this week and i will say im a big fan of that figure. But to me this is not better then quakewave. I also think shockwave should be big like megatron. I know there is a scale chart but in this instance i just dont agree. Shockwave is a big ass bot who took on the whole dino team in the comics. Maybe you agree maybe im wrong but i think for the first time collecting MPs this will be the first pass for me.
+David Flynn yea i hear you but obviously theres a lot of differences between the comics and the cartoon. like for me, i have no connection to the comic, so i could care less personally. you have a connection to it so thats going to affect how you see the character, which males perfect sense as well, but quakewave remains a great option, no doubt about it.
The kicker for me is the price point. I feel like I'm paying up the ass for gimmicks and accessories that will never see the light of day in my collection. That and his color makes him look like the type of bot that would find a wounded butterfly and repair its wings. His favorite color is rainbow. He probably wrestles kittens. His heart has a ponytail. Good review and I can't really disagree with any of the points raised - especially about not being able to point his hand, that shouldn't be happening to a high end figure in 2016. Lazerwave is one of those figures that is better than the sum of it's parts, he feels and looks like the character from the show and has a silhouette that Wave and Blast just can't match. He's by no means perfect, but he just feels right.
I guess i like the comic version of SW. I always pictured him to be like the evil Spock from that old Star Trek episode. Also for him to step in for Megatron when he's not around. Starscream for me is like trying to take command and SW being there to thwart his plans. Even though SS is 2nd to Megs. SW should be the clear leader if Megs was to fall. Thats one of the reasons i think QW has that more Comic feel to him while this one has that toady cartoon version which i didn't like.
I love this guy, IMO he is the definitive G1 Shockwave. In terms of engineering he's on par with the 3P stuff and unlike Ramjet there's no real QC issue's. Agree the friction joint in the hip should have been a ratchet but on my figure at least he can still get into some decent poses and I found removing the batteries really helps stability. His aesthetic just blows those 3P away, yes more paint would have been nice but it's not terrible and he does come with a ton of accessories to. I'm new to your channel but this really was a great review!
Woo TFW skit as promised, and you know what if some people can't get behind you giving up your time to do this for free (which could be spent with your family), and being supported by your family in doing it (awesome & doesn't get old) they are just wrong, and I don't wanna know those people. This guy, i dunno, i don't like toon shockwave as he was a limp noodle, marvel comic shockwave was badass and QB hits that perfectly for me, he should be able to mess up megatron, as he did a few times. But i can see the aesthetic here and ordered him cos he's mp, what you gonna do. Little touches of genius like the leg transformation and the spring hose but for the money he should have been painted, if he'd had a paint finish a la QB he could have looked phenomenal. He's a top tier decepticon and should command that level of care. Will see in a few days when mine arrives i guess. Thanks for the vid Bobby, watching them always brightens my day.

Having the wife and kids skits are what keeps it real Uncle Skullface. The way they handle both the backpack/gun barrel as well as the legs/handle gun butt transformation and packaging is the best I have ever seen for good old Shocky. I love this color, it' my favorite to paint Decepticons.

Thanks for the honest and informative review. For me personally this is the guy for my collection due to his accurate G1 look. Also his accessories are so obscure but accurate that you have to love the fan service. There was actually one episode where he was shooting with a small version of himself and a couple of episodes where he had two hands instead of the cannon arm. Also I would of prefered the stickers be applied but I love that they give us the two different con symbols that were being used on show at the time as well as the Japanese destron symbol. Its this type of fan service that makes this the Shock Wave for me!!!

I just pulled mine out of storage, and I'll tell you, every joint that is not a ratchet is super loose, and I think if I tighten these screws anymore they are just going to strip. My FTs Quakewave has been out on display for quite some time, been transformed several times, been manipulated many times, and is holding up so much better.
Honestly, I'd always imagined Shockwave as being the same size as Megatron. If they made this toy the same size, with the same quality of materials as Quakewave, possibly with a light-up eye and flashing lights & sounds like G1 Shockwave, even at a higher price point, I would have had to buy it. As it is, I'm likely gonna pass on this one.

I personally I would have traded the electronics and light piped eye for some more paint and maybe some ratchets in the hips. Other than that I do like this figure and think he looks great on my MP shelf

I think we were all spoiled by getting Quakewave first. He's is so well made, that it's hard not to be a little disappointed by the lack of paint, cheap feel, and dainty features of MP-29. He's definitely cartoon accurate, and that usually does it for me - but this time I really just prefer the 3rd party offering. FT03 is staying on my MP shelf, and MP-29 will have nice spot by my Leader class CHUGs, right in between CW Megatron and TR Soundwave.
You're in my top three of reviewers, glad you did this guy. I've been watching a few Shockwave reviews today and yours feels the most honest. Not having one in hand all I can do is say how the reviews and photos make me feel about him: good but still underwhelming. I edon't know, he looks kind of "cheap" (not like KO cheap or hasbro hallow cheap) as an MP figure, too much like a "toy." He would be perfect to me had he been something like a Leader class Generations figure at the time of Springer's wave. Today I will be ordering a Quakeblast. Him and Quakvewave are more like the Shockwave I know (grew up with '84 but only got back into TFs with Beast Wars and continue to love them cause of IDW).

Your my fav reviewer too, there are a few reasons, but the main one is that I appriciate your criticality. I've been looking forward to your review in particular on this guy. Even though you ultimately opted for Laserwave, your review convinced me that I went the right way by cancelling my preorder and opting for Quakeblast. G1 aesthetic matters a lot to me, but it doea not trump all. For me, based on your reviews, I go with Quakeblast for size, color, tactile and materials quality and, icing on the cake, value proposition. Regarding us "imaging" he should be bigger, I agree, and I'm not interested in a short Shockwave. The reason we had the idea he was bigger is that our memories are heavily formed by the show, but also the G1 toys, and Shockwave was one of the biggest transformer toys of his time. So, for me, he has to stay that way.

I completely agree with your comments comparing the bots. The Takara feels the most like a toy, least masterpiece like, and I'n not a fan of the gun mode at all, but his bot mode is the most G1. I am still saving a spot on my shelf for my Quakewave though. He is just made so well.

recently I bought transformer called Fracture for my son and when I saw it first thing that I thought was this plastic would have been perfect for MP Shockwave it has metallic flake similar to MP Soundwave and color was just right to match the cartoon. I love his look and not to knock it down but he has a KO look to it. In the end I am getting it because I do want to complete my Season 1 and 2 official transformer collection. Don't think it will replace my Quakewave because it's what I as a child perceived how tall Shockwave was being almost as big as Megatron. Was anxious for review on this one I really do respect your opinion. Think I'll give him a shot who knows maybe he will replace Quakewave.

Loved the review, yoy made some strong points. I have to agree that his legs are were he falls apart as far as a quality figure. That being said, as a shockwave fan, I do like the look of this figure and I love going over to him and transforming him from time to time.

Dude, just THANK YOU ! I was so waiting for this figure and when I actually ended up to have my hands on it I was totally disappointed. I agree with you, Takara did not deliver to expectations this year (Tracks, Ironhide and now Shocky... I think only Ramjet is ok and he's simply a rework of the latest seeker mold). This Shockwave feels cheap as soon as you have it in hands, no paint, plastic quality is not up to the standards of older Takara figures. The gun mode definitely looks unfinished with this hollow back and handle, not to mention the look from beyond the barrel is horrendous. In robot mode, I agree with the G1 look, but that's simply it. I hate the "half feet" they gave him, the head mechanism feels like it's gonna break after 10 transformations, only the joints feel pretty solid. This figure feels like it has been over-rushed by Takara, and didn't get the TLC it should have from the company known for bringing top nutch quality figures (which to my mind is far from being the case anymore, FansToys and MakeToys (even Cloud9) prove a point this year that 3rd party companies can do a better job than Takara in terms of quality and G1 feel/look, and often with a similar or cheaper price tag. Concerning the accessories, I don't get the hands thing, the salute hand is just proof they went cheap, cause they could have provided two (one transluscent, one plain) fully articulated hands, but they went to the cheaper option of provided four with barely any articulation. Mini Shockwave gun is neat, though not enough to make me buy this figure. Although, as you said, this figure is not THAT bad, but it is not that great neither. Anyway, been watching other reviewers' videos, and I can't feel anything else but being "bullshitted"... They all love it, say it's a glorious figure, can't even seem to see the hollow legs, handle/back of the gun mode, nor any flaw in the figure, when it is so evident as soon as you have it in hands. YOU mister, ARE THE ONLY ONE being totally honest about it (and all the other figures you reviewed) and no wonder why you were voted best reviewer on TFW, people can feel you're talking from your heart and not because you want manufacturers to keep sending you production samples. Keep on the good job, and yes, the misses' interruptions are bringing even more life to your dynamic reviews, so ignore mister Rotten Apple and let him feel the Burn :P

After seeing everybody's review, I planned on selling him, but after having him in hand i actually like him. Breaks up the dullness of the dark decepticon colors on my Shelf and he looks good. Not the greatest, but he's not tracks. Kinda small, but even the build quality is better than I expected.
8/10 - we'll appreciate him more when all the other go animated feature think. That was the plan all along. ; )

+Gary sendaydiego Get them both. Quakewave is my Marvel Shockwave and Lazer will be my Sunbow. If you want a figure that can stand toe-to-toe with MP10 and an eventual MP Megatron done to scale then Lazerwave just won't cut it.

For paint app..... I think due to LED circuit board (that no one want) they reduce cost by remove paint app to limit sell price.
They are toy company not a electronic product company so they may outside work of electronic circuit to other company and make it too costly.
It sound stupid but it is common for Japanese company for hire other maker is very costly.
May be we'll have coating version like MP08X ?

Lazerwave is the Japanese name for Shockwave. the last designer is supposed to be coming back next year sometime. The stand as the back pack looks more like the cartoon. Shockwave was never a dynamic character. By the way you are the top dog when it comes to reviewers.

I actually showed my nephew a picture of Quakewave and Laserwave, and what he said was interesting. He's only eight. He thought Laserwave looked more like the cartoon, but he pointed out that the legs were too skinny compared to the rest of the body. And that's one of my biggest complaints about this figure. He looks too top heavy with these bony chicken leg bottoms. Those feet really bother me. In all the reviews I have seen, Laserwave just looks a little cheap to me as well. The grey paint on his calves may look nice, but I think the diecast metal on Quakewave looks much more premium. Of course, I agree that the most important thing is how the figure looks. However, this is where I will disagree with most everybody's assessment. Laserwave's body looks the most g1 cartoon like, but his face throws me off. If you go back and look at the cartoon, Shockwave's eye is not that big. The Quakewave face is the most cartoon accurate out of the three. People tend to be the most sensitive to facial recognition when it comes to identifying other people because it is our most distinguishing characteristic. I am that way when it comes to Transformers. Anyway, good thorough review. I look forward to seeing more of your wife in skits. Wait a minute. That didn't sound right for some reason.

Great review, buddy! Man, its still a couple of days before I get my own in the mail, but I've seen a few reviews on this one already. For the first time in the Transformers Masterpiece line, it seems to me that Takara just didn't give a damn about their product, and thats my biggest disappointment... Stickers??? What the hell?!? I can't believe that Im saying this, but maybe the 3rd party version is just as good of a way to go as far as this character goes. I meen... You have to apply stickers anyways, and you'll still have to watch out so you don't mess those up. Thats one less problem you'd have to deal with if it was tempographed on. Another thing is that stupid light up feature. I HATE batteries in my figures! And why start using lightpiping on a figure now, when they haven't done so on any of the others? If they're going to use batteries in the first place, why not use it on the head too? Just don't make any sense to me... If it wasn't for the fact that I want my MP shelp to be a pure Takara setup, I would have bought the 3rd party version. In my eyes, Takara totally bummed out on this MP... Such a shame, Takara! I sure hope that Takara won't make it a habbit with screwing up like this, dude... Besides from nailing the esthetics on this one, they messed up big time! It does not look like they gave this figure so much as a single second of love in my eyes, and thats disappointing since this is a character a lot of people have been waiting for, me included. They did so great on all of the Autobots and the few other Decepticons they have done so far. People have been waiting for more Decepticons, and they go ahead and do this?!? If I didn't know better, I would have said that this was a 3rd party figure... They could have spent a few bucks on paint too! I guess, on the bright side, you won't get any paint scratches on this one though. But what seems to miss the spotlight here, is that this could lead to a habbit were Takara could get the idea that we don't give a damn anyways, so we might see more cheap solutions like this in the future on other figures too. And THAT scares me, since I want to keep my MP shelf all official. If this was Takaras first MP figure, it could have made me decide to not get into this line at all. Its a dangerous game that Takara is playing here, because it was certain things that put Takara above the 3rd party figures in my opinion. In my eyes, Takara just handed a point over to the 3rd party companies. They better not complain if they loose customers to other companies when they do stuff like this. It makes me wonder which designer that is responsible for this blunder... If its the same one who designed Tracks, then fire the dude! If its the old one, well... He should freakin' know better than to do this! Quality wise, this must be the worst MP figure out of over 30 that they've done so far. And thats coming from someone that some people would call a "Takara fan boy". Im sorry Takara! But the 3rd party companies won the MP Shockwave "battle", and Im afraid that any 3rd party TF collector who says that the 3rd party version is better are right on this one. Get a grip, Takara! This was strike one for you in my book!

Great review as always. Keeping it honest. He is the most G1 looking of the three. If you stand back and pretend you don't know anything about the character I think Quakeblast is head and shoulders above the Takara with Quakewave not far behind. The paint on Quakeblast makes the Lazerwave look like a toy to me which I know it is a toy but a toy can be a piece of art also. I may seem like a Quakeblast fanboy but at a fraction of the cost of the other two he takes it for me.

It's definitely too expensive compared to other MPs of similar size, but it's also one we never thought we'd see. And it does look fantastic. This and Quakeblast both have spots in my collection and look great doing it. Pros and cons for all three. If I could wipe my arse with money, I'd get Quakewave too.

I love the cloud 9 version just looks menacing and great paint job. I feel that this could of been the same price as the most recent hotrod in that $70 to $80 Range. To me I'll stick to my cloud 9.

I know I have an unpopular opinion but I think emgo's reviews are closer to a train wreck - not a train wreck, but closer to it than skullface for sure. I don't think the wife skits have really changed the reviews at all; at least the skits change and evolve.
I thought it was fantastic when you showed the picture of what shockwave's supposed to look like compared to megatron and soundwave. I think you're the first reviewer to do that, and I think it's critical to this figure's review. Very very nice job. Didn't realize how close he is to the actual picture. I like quakeblast the best of the three, but that's me - I couldn't care less about how close a figure is to the cartoon.

Hey Bobby I feel you about toon accuracy being of utmost importance for your collection. I dig that. Your review was straight forward and honest so props due. Se other reviews (Chosen Prime) made me sick when they said this feels better in hand than QW, Meanwhile this ish is flopping like a fish at the hips...UGH. That said..the price point for the official has me scratching my head a bit, in particular because of the build quality. As collectors are we giving this unit a pass because its official? Hope this topic comes up during the next SC episode. Would love to hear everyone's take. For me its an easy pass..Do better TT if you want my bread.

I'm actually really looking forward to getting my takara shockwave, it's just one of those things and it looks well designed. I like the non-super beefed up look vs the 3p figures.
One thing that bugs the hell out of me is the stickers. For figures like sideswipe g2 I understand, but shockwave? why not just go with standard 'con symbol? Having the cartoon symbol would just make it inconsistent with all the other figures in the line anyway.

While I'm a fan of diecast and electronic gimmicks I'd rather the budget have gone into paint in this case. It would have turned what I think is a good figure into a fantastic figure. Those stress marks concern me I better take a look at mine. Thanks as always Bobby!

When i saw the first pics of this guy. I wasn't crazy for it. Im still not crazy for it. I have the G1 since my childhood and now the 2nd QW. This don't come close to it.the size really bugs me and that color. No words. I wonder what those guys that cancelled their QW order or sold their QW. What do they say when they got this in hand. Those legs are definitely inspired by MP Megatron. Looks like they fixed some of the finickiness with the knees though.

The absolute thing that I became pissed with about this was the salute hand. Now, like you, I'm a "stand on the shelf and shut up" collector. My ultimate goal for this was for him to stand in his saluting pose from episode 1. I'd have been a happy guy. Can I be happy? NOPE. Why? Cause he can't get his arm in the proper position to do it satisfactory.

I feel like this is an 8/10 effort for a masterpiece. The feet in gun mode are horrendous. The gap in the back end of the gun is also bad, but at least it sort of makes sense based on the transformation. At least the robot mode doesn't have large gaps like Bumblebee and Tracks. It, at the very least feels like Takara gives half a shit about their products with Hotrod and Shockwave.

But, what turned me around on him was all the molded in detail and the transformation. They should NOT have added a matrix spot, and they SHOULD have done something different with that chest design. Cosplay indeed! But, I could feel love in that design. I think he's an 8/10 too. Not perfect but I like it. I also like it in car mode, where that flat chest doesn't matter at all. For those wanting the robot mode on their shelf, maybe not the one for you. There's also a 3rd party Hotrod coming out that might scratch the robot mode itch...
Man, I wish they would make a Shockwave the way he looked in the G1 Marvel comic. Comic number 5 with him on the cover and it says "The Transformers" and then it looks like Shockwave etched "are all dead" in the stone wall, is one of my favorite Transformers paintings. He was a darker color, he was as tall as Megatron in the comic, and he was more powerful than Megatron! That's the Shockwave I always loved as a kid, not the little Minion, Megatron crony from the G1 cartoon Shockwave.

The most expensive and underwhelming of the 3 MP Shockwaves. Quakeblast is the best value for money of the 3 with it's dark metallic paint job and a sculpt that makes it look just that little bit better than Quakewave, it's the leg detail that's the only real difference between Quakewave and Quakeblast. The Takara Tomy MP Shockwave looks too much like a toy and not something that an adult Transformers collector would want to have sharing shelf space alongside the superb third-party Dinobots and Insecticons that are selling at high prices that they deserve because they are more or less the definitive figures of those characters. What I would love to see would be a MP figure of FOC Shockwave done to the same standard as Quakeblast.

Its not G1 enough! It cost too much! Quakewave was was great until Takara made one. Quakeblast is better now because he cost less....people please this is BS! The one for you is the one YOU like period. Not because its more G1, because it cost less, or because Fanstoys made it, because YOU like it. Sure it's great to preview and no what you are getting before you invest your money, but I get so sick of these people who tell other people that product they will get will be the best. No. That's your opinion. To that guy that purchased the other product, his is the best....People remember that before they put water in bottles you drank tap.... Excellent review as usual Bobby keep up the good work.

+Bobby “Skullface” Skullface L I'm with you 100%. My entire collection is mostly masterpiece, fans toys, and one x-transbot. I think the paint and overall look of it will impress you.
I do like the overall sculpt/design of this figure but it just doesn't say masterpiece to me. And the purple plastic, no matter how screen accurate, looks too bright. I think a coat of the darker purple (like on the die-cast) would have looked better. I do enjoy the different transformation for this shockwave, though. I completely expected the same transformation as Quakewave or Quakeblast. Im not gonna buy this though. I'd rather stick to Quakeblast. The dark purple paint job is superb.
He also mentioned something about a new company. I haven't heard anything about a new company, anyone know anything about that? I'd love to know.

For me this is the easiest pass on a MP so far. Quakewave will not be replaced in my collection. If anything its a gloryfied CHUG. Im still on the fence about keeping MP magnus over citizen stack with the head upgrade. Again like the MP11 molds with its flimsy soft plastic compared to the Igear seekers its an easy pass. Sometimes 3rd party is just better. I got MP28 this week and i will say im a big fan of that figure. But to me this is not better then quakewave. I also think shockwave should be big like megatron. I know there is a scale chart but in this instance i just dont agree. Shockwave is a big ass bot who took on the whole dino team in the comics. Maybe you agree maybe im wrong but i think for the first time collecting MPs this will be the first pass for me.
+David Flynn yea i hear you but obviously theres a lot of differences between the comics and the cartoon. like for me, i have no connection to the comic, so i could care less personally. you have a connection to it so thats going to affect how you see the character, which males perfect sense as well, but quakewave remains a great option, no doubt about it.
The kicker for me is the price point. I feel like I'm paying up the ass for gimmicks and accessories that will never see the light of day in my collection. That and his color makes him look like the type of bot that would find a wounded butterfly and repair its wings. His favorite color is rainbow. He probably wrestles kittens. His heart has a ponytail. He probably sprinkles rose pedals on his bed before he goes to sleep in it.
He knows the mall is busy but it's paramount he gets his initials engraved in this cake cutter at Things Remembered! After all he's making his famous blueberry crumble & his sister is flying in from Cape Cod this year!

Good review and I can't really disagree with any of the points raised - especially about not being able to point his hand, that shouldn't be happening to a high end figure in 2016. Lazerwave is one of those figures that is better than the sum of it's parts, he feels and looks like the character from the show and has a silhouette that Wave and Blast just can't match. He's by no means perfect, but he just feels right.

I guess i like the comic version of SW. I always pictured him to be like the evil Spock from that old Star Trek episode. Also for him to step in for Megatron when he's not around. Starscream for me is like trying to take command and SW being there to thwart his plans. Even though SS is 2nd to Megs. SW should be the clear leader if Megs was to fall. Thats one of the reasons i think QW has that more Comic feel to him while this one has that toady cartoon version which i didn't like.

I love this guy, IMO he is the definitive G1 Shockwave. In terms of engineering he's on par with the 3P stuff and unlike Ramjet there's no real QC issue's. Agree the friction joint in the hip should have been a ratchet but on my figure at least he can still get into some decent poses and I found removing the batteries really helps stability. His aesthetic just blows those 3P away, yes more paint would have been nice but it's not terrible and he does come with a ton of accessories to. I'm new to your channel but this really was a great review!

I would buy this for what I paid for QuakeBlast - $80 - and not a dollar more. It's a good companion to QuakeBlast but definitely not worth over $100.

Woo TFW skit as promised, and you know what if some people can't get behind you giving up your time to do this for free (which could be spent with your family), and being supported by your family in doing it (awesome & doesn't get old) they are just wrong, and I don't wanna know those people.
This guy, i dunno, i don't like toon shockwave as he was a limp noodle, marvel comic shockwave was badass and QB hits that perfectly for me, he should be able to mess up megatron, as he did a few times. But i can see the aesthetic here and ordered him cos he's mp, what you gonna do. Little touches of genius like the leg transformation and the spring hose but for the money he should have been painted, if he'd had a paint finish a la QB he could have looked phenomenal. He's a top tier decepticon and should command that level of care. Will see in a few days when mine arrives i guess.
