The Maned wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus) is a large canine of South America. Its markings resemble those of foxes, but it is neither a fox nor a wolf. It is the only species in the genus Chrysocyon (meaning "golden dog" in Ancient Greek. What's even weirder is his urine smells of marijuana. Watch to find out everything about this incredible wolf.

I’m Brazilian and it’s amazing to see they getting the spotlight. Here we can come across some of the wild individuals more than ever before. Slowly they are getting back to their habitat

@@Ahmed-Youcef1959 they are not. There are no cases of humans being harmed by them. They are actually afraid. They’d rather flee than fight. Even though their size can be quite terrifying.

Anneka if you´re really willing to come visit Brazil for the manned wolf, you should definetely make contact with "Instituto Onça-Pintada (IOP)" they are kind of a big NGO here focused on Jaguar conservation, BUT also have helped on the Manned Wolf conservation, among many other species of native fauna. I remember they even had some specimens in their care at the Institute.
They also post regularly on every social media (but I guess for speaking portuguese only in their videos I don't see then getting the well deserved attention from foreign media, although I'm sure they could communicate) so I think it should be easy enough to set up a meeting, it would be so nice :)

I saw a maned wolf at the dispo last week. He needed a wheelbarrow to cart all the flower outta the store. Maned wolves are notorious stoners.😉

Except for the fact better help had been caught in quite a number of suspicious activities in the past and now makes its comeback when everyone seems to have forgotten about it

I don't dislike the odor or marijuana. I'd be perfectly comfortable around an animal that had the same scent.
@@fuzzywzhe YES! My Mom and grandma LOVE the smell of weed but don't like to use it. Here in Colorado we are allowed 20 plants each and in every other window pot plants grow and they smell Sooo good everywhere, Not even Skunky anymore more like fruity pebbles and Piney skunk smell YUM!
@@koffinkat666 I can't say I love the odor of cannabis, but it doesn't bother me in the least. To me, it's a pleasant odor.
HOWEVER, I have owned a wolf, got stuck with one in Samoyed rescue, as a "Samoyed mix" - it was a full arctic wolf. Not at all a violent or mean animal, but it's not a dog. A tame animal is trained over generations to be a child but a wolf, it's like a room mate. They do what they want, and do not respond to dog training, they don't respect your wishes, they don't cooperate.
I would never have a wolf again without 100 acres of fenced in property. Nice animal, but nothing like a dog. I strongly recommend against trying to own one.
I'd feed one, even care for one, but I'd never own one again. They are extremely independent. When my "Samoyed mix" wanted out, he would work relentlessly to get out. After the 3rd time I was like F it. He was a foster, if he wanted to return he would, and he did after 2 days of worry. He was very intelligent. Not aggressive, not mean, just didn't care about anything I wanted. I fed him, he could be affectionate, but he never had any obligation to me, he never loved me. He just enjoyed his life.
Don't try to own a wild animal. You can be friends with one, but you can't own one.

Beautiful work. We have spotted these " Lobo Guará" individuals at farmlands in São Paulo State. Usually they admired and well come, they are also shy and NOT aggressive.
Im 25% Cherokee, and I've worked with half-wolves,wild wolves,Siberian huskies, and Alaskan Malamutes in the past, and it's been my dream to possibly work with the Maned Wolf as well.

Maned wolves are among my favorite animals along with Harpy Eagles and Hummingbirds. Also, I know it's not an animal, but a bug, but dragonflies, too.
In Alaska saw a Harpy Eagle the other day in a tree by my cabin. He flew over from the neighboring Kenai Lake.

Should cover the American Dingo dog breed. Typed the wrong breed in previous post, but havent seen anyone cover the American Dingo dog breed yet.
I had one. The Carolina Dog is a Native American dog that by convergent evolution, looks like the Australian Dingo. Only American wild dog successfully domesticated. 😊
Is the America dingo the same as the Carolina dog?
@@salzar0357 yup, that’s an alternative name for it. When I first got my dog, I was struck by his physical resemblance to the Australian Dingo. A case of convergent evolution and a native American wild dog. Became domesticated and was made an official AKC breed in 2017. 🙂

They have Maned wolves at Krakov zoo. I freaked out when i first saw it because i never saw anything like it before, not even at a zoo!

I just saw a wild one on the side of the road! I drive slow here I live in an islandof biodivrsity in rural SE Brazil
What I find interesting about this animal is that it has no less than three characteristics of a red fox. These are: its appearance, looking like a red fox on stilts; its smell, like a skunk or cannabis; and its roar/bark, which is a lot like a red fox’s roar/bark. It’s almost as if someone crossed a red fox with a greyhound.
