    00:00 White Pocket Square Introduction
The white pocket square is a subtle yet sublime menswear accessory. But even though it’s small and simple, it can be the perfect accent piece to finish an outfit.
    02:33 History of Pocket Square
In antiquity, nobles from Babylon to Egypt and Greece to Rome were known to carry squares of fabric on their person. These were usually dipped in perfume or fragrant oils to help mask unpleasant odors, similar to how one might use a sachet.
A cloth was also commonly carried by people of all stations to mop up a sweat or other messes. It didn’t become a fashion accessory in the West until the late 14th century.
What Makes A Good Pocket Square?
Overall, a good pocket square will hold folds well, sit attractively and securely in the pocket, and remain looking elegant while doing so. The most important factors are material and size for retaining shape and position, so we’ll cover those.
    04:48 Materials
    → 05:14 1. Cotton
    → 06:43 2. Silk
    → 07:35 3. Wool
    → 09:07 4. Linen
    → 10:37 Synthetics
    ** Polyester
    ** Acetate
    ** Rayon
    11:53 Size
    14:03 Construction Details
    → 1. 16:46 Stitching
    → 2. 17:12 Edging

Where to Wear Your Pocket Square
A white pocket square can, of course, be worn literally anywhere you’re going to wear a jacket, from the least to most formal of occasions. But, subtle components are going to change from occasion to occasion.
    21:47 1. Casual Social Events
    22:28 2. Office Settings
    23:00 3. Semi-Formal
    23:25 4. Black Tie
    23:46 5. White Tie
As a general rule, you’re probably going to want to pay between $40 and $80 US dollars for a quality pocket square. Anything under $15 will probably be made from inferior materials, and anything under $30 or so will probably lack finer points of detailing.

Two items to "square away" in the name of accuracy:
    1. Any instance where the phrase "square inches" is used should most accurately be "inches square;" the mathematically minded know that there's a difference!
    2. We've actually shown portraits of a few different kings when mentioning Richard I--how many can the historians among you name? :)

I have a question about the length of jacket sleeves. I can't afford a custom made suite, so whenever I purchase a jacket the sleeves are usually too long. I'm a 44S but my arms are shorter than the normal. I would be happy for a guide to the length of my sleeves so when I go to a tailor or someone else to do alterations I can let them know what length they should be.

I love this information so much!
But, _square inches_ is not the same as _inches, square._ The terms are not interchangeable.
_Square inches_ is a measurement of area. An item that is 16 square inches would be 4"x4", or 2"x8" or even 1"x16". Any pair of factors that multiply to 16.
An item that is 16 _inches, square_ would be 16" on a side, and being designated _square,_ it is a square that is 16" on each side.

I don’t know what it is with gentlemen of a very specific demographic wearing pocket squares that look like beach towels falling out of their pockets these-days, the same people almost always wear skin tight trousers and monk straps which went out of style in mid-2010s, as well as constantly over-accessorising. You can see this with American football players

There is only one acceptable color for a man's pocket square. The color is white. Plain white. I realize the principals behind this channel wear and sell pocket squares in many patterns and colors, so we will have to agree to disagree. A man should never look as though he's trying too hard, and that's the result of wearing colorful pocket squares that attempt to pick up colors in shirts or jackets or neckties. That sort of thing is best left to the female(s) in one's life. At best it's precious; at worst it's foppish or even gauche. But, with apologies to the late Queen Victoria, for those who like that sort of thing, it (a colorful pocket square) is just the sort of thing they will like.

    • @baze3SC
      @baze3SC ปีที่แล้ว

I agree with your point about not trying too hard. However, a pocket square is a decorative piece of cloth that has no real function. Not trying too hard means ditching it altogether. If you care enough to wear one you might just as well pick a different color. I don't see a big difference there. But those origami-like folds, that's a bit too much.

      @ardentdfender4116 2 ปีที่แล้ว

It may seem that way. Regardless, you can wear a suit in a more casual fashion that either works or appeal to you in a less business fashion. Follow your own style though regardless of what other people is doing or not doing. Be original. When many choose to not put much effort into how they dress, you’ll certainly stand out even wearing a suit or without without a tie for less formality. Step down even more with a nice jacket, shirt and dress trousers or chinos. Rock your own style man whichever you like.
