I’m always relieved to see a pocket square. Shows me that the fellow cares about details and is willing to go the extra step. I think the only places I wouldn’t wear a flashy one are to a funeral or a job interview. Those get a TV fold.
That’s what white linen or white silk with subtle colored border stitching is for. Something like off white and brown stitching. Would look nice with a non flashy blue or grey suit.
For funerals, go for a simple white pocket square, no boutonniere (in Italy it’s kinda disrespectful, in the UK or somewhere else they go for white boutonnieres but I agree with Italian etiquette, the boutonnieres or flowers are too lively for an occasion such as a funeral)
@@OrrosGG I broke the rules once. My grandma bought me my second suit. It was a summer suit in stone. 3 piece. Best fitting suit I had worn at the time. I wore it to her funeral in the summer. People looked at me funny but who cares. She’s my grandma.
@@OrrosGG Flowers are kind of traditional at funerals. I've never been to one that didn't have flowers.
It’s so hard to fathom the sight of a jacket with an empty chest pocket.. Pocket squares are simply huge relief to the eye, it kinda distinguishes the man who loves dressing up and the one that doesn’t. (Not in all cases tho but in general it’s an indicator)
I agree with this most of the time. For me personally I wear hats and waistcoats and sometimes a pocket square is over the top for me, in that moment i simply go without one. But for 2 piece combination or a tieless look a pocket square is always nice to have!

I love the little jokes throughout the video 😁 I'm a woman so this channel is not for me, but I'm still subscribed because I just love seeing well-mannered, well-educated, nice gentlemen being uniquely themselves! I don't seem to find a lot of that in my everyday life, sadly, but at least I'm hopeful it's possible! 😄 Even if your content is not for me, I still enjoy it and find it informative and interesting. I'm very appreciative of a more traditional style, be it for myself or for others, so maybe one day when I hopefully get married I could use these tips to buy my future husband presents, hahah. In the meantime I guess I'll just content myself with learning 😃

If you believe that orange is "criminally underused" you'll be pleased to hear that my new cap has orange and light-blue patterns. Thinking about which pocket square to match with it. Summers here in Japan I wear a sports jacket without tie to my work, but I've gotta have a nice hat and pocket square.

Never leave the house without a pocket square of some kind in my jacket pocket. Even on the weekends with jeans and sports jacket but sans necktie. Wearing them since about 2003.

my first pocket square arrived yesterday from(her von welt) a hand rolled pocket square called jungle brown with wine red navy blue and brown very nice piece of wool!
These are nice (understatement) pocket squares. As foundational, I would go with a white one; a white one with either red or blue stiching on the perimeter; and earth tonish one (e.g. the ochre one, for example, but a rust colored or a brown would also be fine); a lighter blue one; and a red/pink or burgundy. When one tries pocket squares the first time, try a solid color and a presidental fold and its variations, then go for a puff. Once you feel confortable wearing them, go for the ones Preston has shown. They are really beautifull.
I would love to see you guys do a full review of the peaky blinders in the outfits to see if you would advise people to wear that kind of style again I do like that kind of style but I would actually like to see you guys put a more formal touch on it

Fantastic guide. I’ve been looking to expand my pocket square collection (currently only have a white one), so I’ll definitely be referring back to this as I go.
I need some more pocket squares, I've been hunting some on eBay for about a year now but it's dry out there. Allen Edmonds was having a clear out sale on all their pocket squares so I ended up getting a few great ones from them. I really like some of the ones gentleman's gazette has, I might pick some up soon.

Here’s the fact of the matter. I’ve looked over 10s of thousands of modern pocket squares. Don’t ask me why. I have no real reason. However, this gives me the ability to say, Brunello cucinelli makes the best pocket squares period. They have the best designs. There is no denying it.

I'm just wondering if you guys could make a video on how to pick a prom suit?
If its in the evening what your should wear is a tuxedo. Black is nice, but midnight blue is also a nice color. Then get a proper tuxedo shirt and get the shirt studs and cufflinks. Next choose a black bowtie and learn to tie it. Finally a white silk pocket square and either a white or red carnation. Either for waistwear go with an evening waistcoat or a cummerbund, depends on type of year. With a waistcoat a pocket watch is always a nice touch. Wear black socks and black patent leather slipper shoes. Understated elegance. Find a good tailor for it all
My apologies if you mentioned it in the video but what would be a good starter pocket square for someone who has never worn them? I want to get perhaps a Burgundy or white that'll go well with my suit jackets and casual blazers.
Cant go wrong with a plain white in either linen or cotton. From there, try different colors and patterns.

I agree with Silverstreak, you can never go wrong with a white pocket square and you can use it with every dress code. For a colored pocket square, burgundy can be a great starting point, assuming that it will go with a majority of the other articles in your wardrobe. Light shades of blue also tend to be very versatile.

@@Manuel421 I would also suggest a white pocket square, but do spend some time finding the right size, I think it is a bit too easy to find too small ones and then you will never wear it and have wasted the money. So always ask for the size or even better yet, try it out with one of your jackets, as pocket depths can vary quite a bit.

@@vercingetorix2923 im not so sure. When you see old videos of Raphael and Preston you get a sense of a man who has a genuine passion. At this point their videos seem random with throw ins of "this is the best product and we also sell it".

We in the USA have a trouble finding livable wages. Jeez! $10 to $20 would be reasonable. God, I miss SYMs store where they get the finest things from department store like Kaufmann's and marked them down more than 50% off. What a great deal. They are no longer in business because the owner retired. Jeez!

All the pocket squares look lovely, but you should be going with general recommendations, not product placements. I did want to say Preston's outfit here is too much. I am a huge fan of boutonnieres, but not every day and here everything is too much. First of all the ascot is very bold and would go best with a muted pocket square and NO boutonniere and probably a different color jacket. The outfit is overcomplicated and looks more gooberish than dapper. Just constructive criticism from a big time fan
