TORO V ZONE - There's a NEW King of Putt & Approach Discs

  • I was SUPER surprised by what happened in today's review & 9 hole challenge. I took the Innova Toro and pitted it against my Discraft Zones, which have been staples in my bag almost since I started playing disc golf in January. At first, I didn't think there was much of a difference, but the more I played the 9 holes, the more I had that corrected...

I might have your answer for why the Toro comes out easier. Zones are made with a rim that comes back towards the center so it almost feels like your fingers literally slot inside it, and the Toro has the opposite. It’s sometimes called a plus(+) rim where Innova purposefully makes the inside of the rim slope outward away from the center so it comes out easier.

    • @andrewtait3886

I've felt the Toro and I noticed a difference between a few of them. There were definitely some that had that ever so slight puddle that made them feel thinner than another disc in the stack. You could try to find one of those if you are curious to compare. The zone does have the perk of coming in every conceivable plastic discraft makes, especially with all the special runs so you get some cool variety. Great video!

    • @BodanzaDiscGolf

  • @theonecalledgr

The easier grip is because of the Plus mold on the inside rim. There are Roc+ Teebird+ and a couple other plus molds out there. The interior rim has a slight slant to it.
The Star runs are a little less puddle top.

Dude after getting the Toro a few months back I ended up selling my zone. I think it has to do with plastic and shape. It comes out so much cleaner than zone for me and I have medium hands with sausage fingers and it works great. This is the only Innova disk I currently throw. Mainly its Mvp Axiom & Trilogy. If you bag it you wont regret it thats for sure. Good luck on your journey

@@18bigegan I bag a Praxis and a Votum in etherial in addition to the Temple . I actually got my first ace in 25 years of playing with my Praxis a couple of weeks ago. I don't think they'll be making a temple in those because I believe they use a different manufacturer for the nerve plastic. I love the feel of it and the grip. Bro, you’re in Illinois! I just started playing like two years ago. My home course is Eagle Ridge in Oswego Illinois. It’s a pretty good course.
    1.Eagle Ridge/Civic Center Oswego, Illinois.
    2. Knoch Knolls, Naperville, Illinois. Also a good course a bit easier in my opinion. But nicer since it’s in a nicer neighborhood
    3. The canyons dellwood IL, best course in the state. Although you have to play during the week because it can get very crowded in the weekend huge course, long holes, throwing down cliffs. It’s awesome.
    4. Rolling Knolls in Elgin Illinois has like a 700 foot downhill which is pretty sick.
    5. The oaks I forget where this is I think it’s close to Shorewood?
I hope I get to play with you one day.

Honestly one of the biggest changes to my game was realizing 1.3cm rim depth discs fit my hand best. Took the guess work out of picking discs. I think I just have bony hands but the zone has nothing on a 750plastic A4 in my opinion. That said the zone is a 1.3 and the toro is a 1.4 so I’m honestly not sure which one I would choose between the two. I already have my overstable approach of choice covered by the prodigy A series but I’d be curious to try these two at some point.
