Thank you P. Awesome video and channel. Honestly, most TH-cam channels have a bunch of millennials driving these cars once or twice. They are not really journalists. And they rarely get to live with the car. Hearing about living with the car from an adult who owns it is refreshing. You are doing the universe a service! Keep it up!
Thanks chief. Im only partially an adult 🤣 but yeah the goal is to give in depth info to potential owners and try to capture the experience as much as possible. At least the way i see it through my eyes
One of the best real world onroad reviews of this car. I drove an M3 Xdrive Comp before ordering the '23 M2 and completely agree. I can only compare it to my 992 4S just without the fantastic front end feel of the Porsche but the Beemers have more range from comfort to aggression then the 992. The Porsche is a scalpel the BMW is a cut throat razor. The Porsche puts down clinical speed with precision. The Beemer is a white knuckle ride on a rocket lift off. The boxer sounds much better and sings it's way to a solid 7,500 while the S58 sounds rough and ready. The ZF is impressive and feels racecar strong on the street but the PDK remains the best box in the world. Both incredible cars.

Jesus, bro! Nice review. I have been stressing out over whether to keep my M3 CS after lease end or get a G80. Your video has really swayed me toward the G80 and I LOVE my CS, hence the stressing out over it. Your review here is the first time I have felt that I would not regret letting my CS go. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!
I never drove a CS. But for daily duty the g80 is best bang for the buck out there. Also very capable and with light mods its a complete animal. Different level of performance. Depends how much you need the rawness of the CS the regular models are more civilized when you take the slack off
@@plife911 So for me as a former race car driver, I love the rawness and hooligan aspect of the CS...doesn't bother me a bit as a daily driver. But my wife and kids hate it even in all comfort mode. Thinking the g80 would allow me to have my race car experience and deliver the family in relative comfort. My biggest concern withe g80 was no DCT but watching/hearing the car shift in anger in your review makes me feel like this is a non-issue. You're a Porsche guy and the PDK is probably the best DCT out there. So if you're saying the g80 tranny is good..then that is coming from a reliable source IMO.
Thanks man. Yeah the trans is really good. You really need to get into pdk-s or ferrari/lambo to have a big step up in the trans department. Yes its slower than a dual clutch in general but its a really really solid trans. Plus for tuning its bulletproof
In comfort mode i find it very compliant and comfortable. That said, the longest ive driven it is 2-3 hrs. But i always have the suspension in sport plus because its still very good in my opinion. I think the suspension is better than my aston was.
Audio was definitely pretty good! Way more in depth than my little impressions thing coming soon lol. Interesting you confirmed my question of single or dual clutch. I feel like you notice it on the downshifts. Curious to try the single clutch in rs5 seeing I'm used to dual clutch in s4 s6
nice review Pete as always. how does it compare to your macan gts? i'm thinking about replacing my macanS gen2 with a m3/4. Macan is perfect in its segment but m3/4 can also handle track days from time to time. The only thing i'm worried about is that Bmw's power steering is typically worse than porsche's. Would love to know your thoughts on this and the handling, as you own both as well. TIA
This is the quality and depth of content I try to find when I look for car reviews. You, James Forte, and Tommy L Garage are in a class of your own. Learned a shit ton about this car that no one else has said in just 20 mins. Great video! Also, was that cold start with valves closed in Efficient? Or did you aux. power the car into Sport or Sport+ before starting?
@@plife911 I'm going to order one of these in the next ~year or so as my first performance car (and first car purchase in general). The information and depth was awesome - you hit on a lot of points and analogies that were just spot on. Keep up the great work! Subbed
How is the ride and suspension for "normal" driving? Ideally I would have a sporty daily and more of a pure sports car, but only have room in my garage for 1 additional car right now. I do 2+ commutes into the city 1-2 times a month so need something that is comfortable as well as sporty.
New subscriber to your channel. It came on to my feed. I’m a fan of your content. Thanks for the content. Looking forward to the next video. Quick question Would you recommend this over a base 911 ? I myself am in the market for this or a base 911 in the next 6 months.
Honestly ive never driven a tuned giulia qv, but u saw the cars i had and the m3 is a monster. Its probably gonna need some mods tho. You can put a jb4 on the m3 for some extra sauce in about a couple hours on the first install and 60 min thereafter. With the jb4 it wont be slower and i think the m3 also has a very high performing chassis. The real question then comes down to styling and tech and if u like it.
Thanks for the detailed review! I'm seriously considering getting a xdrive m3, did you get a discount from msrp ? I'm in sf bayarea, got a quote at msrp about 6 month ago for a rear drive.
I learned more from this vid than I did at the dealership. Thank you for putting this up! Liked and subbed. Got my M3 comp xdrive black/black/black w carbon package coming in November. Feel like I'm missing out by not getting the M driver package tho :/
Wow congrats! The triple black looks epic on the m4 i drove. I think youre not missing much with the m drive pro or divers pack. The car is tits right out of the box! 💪🏻
Hey Pete. Do you still have the M3? I’ve put about 2800 mi on mine and loving it. Anyway, saw you had a 911 so was curious if you got rid of the G80. Hope all is well.
@@plife911 Damn. Nice. As much as I enjoy my G80, I’d love to be able to swap cars as often as you do. Need 4 doors though. Anyway, sweet 911 you have there.
Sorry for the delay in replyjng. Skyscraper is a great color from the standard pallete. For me this was a short term car (less than a year) so didnt go crazy on spec and msrp, if it was a keeper i would actually have ordered Dravit grey. Both awesome tho
Dsc can be on in 4wd mode. It has 4wd and 4wd sport with dsc off. But dsc needs to be off to get rwd mode. If u have m drive professional rwd mode gets 10 stage traction control. Its very hard to slide the x drive around unless you drive it like a complete asshole
@@plife911 Thanks for the reply! I, being an asshole, occasionally enjoy throwing the rear end out in roundabouts at lower speeds. Is it doable or do you have to be going fast?
Just sold my Carrera T and have a G80 M3 xdrive on order now. I needed more practical as I'm losing a parking spot in the new house - I hope I don't regret it!
@@plife911 Would you do the Tartufo interior again? I am thinking doing that interior and an Individual exterior (though so many color options are giving me paralysis by analysis).
Great review. My dealer has a Nov allocation for me, so my M3 will probably come by Christmas. I saw you drove on the I94 highway and some local roads which are close to my home. Have you ever been pulled over because of lacking the front license plate? I'm still hesitating on using a tow hook mount or no front plate at all.
Hi Pete, love the review mate! 👏👏👏& I’m hoping to lock - in a contract with BMW for a M3 Xdrive that looks/ specs like your one which I love ❤️ . Enjoy your wheels ! 👍
@@plife911 Awesome, thank you. I currently drive a 2019 M550xi, I'm seriously looking at the car you reviewed. (It's tough to find a dealer to test drive right now😡)
The 550 is a better car for cruising (more comfortable). Also the v8 is a monster. This m3 is pretty big tho but is another level of sportiness and agility. If u drive one pop it in sport+
@@plife911 Oh it's a great car, and yes that engine is great, lots of torque. But the car is quite "rolly polly", ha! I'm looking for something that is nimble and quick, so I'm thinking the M3. I have a test drive set up for tomorrow in a Competition RWD👍
Nice review. I also have noticed that there is a power lag/drop post shift in high rev range in manual mode. Maybe a future software update will address that …
Awesome review! I also have a xdrive m3 but I do have a question as I am trying to diagnose if I have a problem right now. When turning right or left from a full stop in first gear, I get this feeling like some gearing is not catching. The car doesn't necessarily shake but the acceleration is not smooth. It feels like a 4x4 car making a u turn and getting that jerky acceleration. In a straight line, the gear shifts are perfectly smooth/normal. Is this something you are experiencing in your m3 as well or something I should look into? Any information would help! I've been looking for information online but its hard to find information on the car as the xdrive m3 is especially newer.
What mode are u in? In sport plus the throttle is like a hair trigger and not smooth. You need to have measured and constant inputs. Also the car is jerky when the transmission is in s3 or d3 (3 bars). In regular mode for everything mine is butter smooth. Regardless the m3 is much smoother than most high end sports cars
I didnt have the car lonh enough unfortunately but was thinking about it. My main concern was cold weather performance in the midwest. Do you have any experience dailying these in the snow/cold?
@@plife911 Unfortunately, I don’t. This would be my first experience with Carbotech, but I need to do something about the dust. It’s just at biblical levels. I didn’t realize that you had let the M3 go. I certainly appreciate the technicality of your M3 review.
I think they did it on purpose because the F80 couldnt put any power down. Its actually not that bad its just got so much power up top that if they had a tabletop torque curve it would break the tires loose
@@plife911 ah .. alot of turbo.engines loose power up Hugh from my experience too they just rev.. so could be so it keeps gaining power I guess. Is the steering good on them?
Its got more orange than i thought and it flops color with light/shade. More of a cinamon. Im a big fan of chocolate browns but this is still my favorite option currently offered. Just not my favorite brown of all time
Thank you. I dont have laser lights on the m3. But i do have them on my wifes x5 m50. Honestly i cant tell the difference the base led lights are more than sufficient in my opinion and they have auto high beams standard
I have an m3 xdrive getting delivered in the ect two months (mid to late November). Are you getting snow tires? Sorry if I missed it in your video. I’m in the upper Midwest (Minnesota)
Hi Pete. I'm about to order my M3 xDrive and I have a question for you. Is M Drive Pro really needed? I hear that 4WD Sport provides a great mix of RWD feel/fun but the added traction and acceleration of AWD. Would you say that is true? Do you ever really use or think you'll use full RWD that would necessitate have M Drive Pro so you can have traction control? Thanks!
@@plife911 Nice. I currently drive my f80 in MDM and am hoping that using 4WD Sport as my everyday mode, will be similar if not better and, thus, I really do not need M Drive Sport.
If u like to drift get the M drive pro for TC in rwd mode. Even if 4wd sport this thing grips like a mofo and u have to be a complete jackass to get the rear out. And in rwd mode with no TC its literally a donut sled
Thanks. Yeah i ordered it may got it late august but the allocation i got was locking right away. I forgot to mention in the vid i also added executive pack (without laser lights).
@@plife911 nice. Laser lights don’t do much for me. I’d likely save on that and put it towards xdrive. Love the combo. No dealer would spec it like you did. Enjoy and keep the rubber side down brother!

@@Aaron-yn4bk same boat. You going to get out of your CS?
@@S777H Yep! Waiting for a G80 allocation right now.
How does it feel like a highway cruiser? Suspension stiffness wise, will it break your back on long hauls?.....thanks and excellent review..
Rs5 is the same trans
@@plife911 that is interesting. Didn't know that!
Yeah they all have the zf auto because it has higher torque limits
@@plife911 makes sense. This is why I'm afraid to tune s6. Everyone blows trans
Great information and great video

nice review Pete as always. how does it compare to your macan gts? i'm thinking about replacing my macanS gen2 with a m3/4. Macan is perfect in its segment but m3/4 can also handle track days from time to time. The only thing i'm worried about is that Bmw's power steering is typically worse than porsche's. Would love to know your thoughts on this and the handling, as you own both as well. TIA
M3 is better to be honest. Other than the badge is legit more capable and has more backseat room. Only drawback is less cargo space but its not bad
Thanks Kevin! Means alot. I try to keep it informative and give practical information prospective and sometimes current owners may want to know.

Ride is super cush
Lol you drive right by the road I live off. Sweet ride! Love the color! Considering getting rid of my 18’ fbo rs3 for one of these fields here I come

New subscriber to your channel. It came on to my feed. I’m a fan of your content. Thanks for the content. Looking forward to the next video. Quick question Would you recommend this over a base 911 ? I myself am in the market for this or a base 911 in the next 6 months.
Hard to say it depends what you want. I would take this over my 911T 100%
so much info...unlike others...👍👍
You do put out great content! Keep up the good work!
Thank you for watching!
Reminds me of Obsessed Garage and maybe even Savagegeese. Good video.
Very high praise. Thank you💪🏻🙌🏻
Great review. Thank you.
I hav a gulia Quattro folio tuned I luv it considering m3 your honest opinion would m3 give same enjoyment thanks
Great review/feedback. And great car. Thx!
Thank u so much🙌🏻
Thanks for the detailed review! I'm seriously considering getting a xdrive m3, did you get a discount from msrp ? I'm in sf bayarea, got a quote at msrp about 6 month ago for a rear drive.
No discounts on these and I ordered in May. Its worse now but if you look hard hopefully you will find one
Great video! Is 10 stage TC only available on 2WD? Can you change the TC level on 4WD mode?
Only in 2wd mode
Hey Pete. Do you still have the M3? I’ve put about 2800 mi on mine and loving it. Anyway, saw you had a 911 so was curious if you got rid of the G80. Hope all is well.
Hi Aaron G80 is gone since last july. I miss the car for sure. Yes went back to porsche for now
@@plife911 Damn. Nice. As much as I enjoy my G80, I’d love to be able to swap cars as often as you do. Need 4 doors though. Anyway, sweet 911 you have there.
How do you like the skyscraper grey? Still enjoying it? That’s the color I’m leaning towards
Sorry for the delay in replyjng. Skyscraper is a great color from the standard pallete. For me this was a short term car (less than a year) so didnt go crazy on spec and msrp, if it was a keeper i would actually have ordered Dravit grey. Both awesome tho
Wicked review.
Hey! Nice review dude! Can you have DSC on with 4wd sport? Also can you slide the rear end around at low speeds? Thanks.
Tc off rwd mode u can do a standing burnout💪🏻
Just sold my Carrera T and have a G80 M3 xdrive on order now. I needed more practical as I'm losing a parking spot in the new house - I hope I don't regret it!
G80 is great! I had the T also you cant lose either way
@@plife911 Would you do the Tartufo interior again? I am thinking doing that interior and an Individual exterior (though so many color options are giving me paralysis by analysis).
@@MrSchn3ll i would do either tartufo or black. But would also consider red depending on exterior color
Not yet dont jinx us lol
Sweet ride! Might have to cop one of these now that Mercedes is going to a 4-popper
I couldnt have said it better myself 🤣🙌🏻💪🏻
Hi Pete, love the review mate! 👏👏👏& I’m hoping to lock - in a contract with BMW for a M3 Xdrive that looks/ specs like your one which I love ❤️ . Enjoy your wheels ! 👍
Thanks Allan! Good luck and enjoy! Hopefully the production goes fast and smooth 🤞🏻
What color is your car? Beautiful review and specs btw.
Thanks! Skyscraper grey
Where did you see anything written about the crankshaft being 2kg lighter than the X3M? - I can't find any reference to that effect anywhere else.
In the s58 technical manual. Its from the m4 gt3 race car
Great review! How would you rate the car as a daily driver? Is it comfortable enough day to day when not out on "spirited drives"?
Daily duty is where this car shines. It does everything really well.
550 is a bit of a marshmallow by comparison. The g80 chassis is one of the best parts of the car, if not the best
Nice review. I also have noticed that there is a power lag/drop post shift in high rev range in manual mode. Maybe a future software update will address that …
Thanks doc. Its in the owners manual u start to cut power when the second shfift indicator is solid red and then everything flashes
@@plife911 I’m in the lowest transmission setting and still getting this feeling. I’ll have to get this checked out then. Thank you for replying!
Yeah sorry boss. Lemme know what service says
hella sick and awesome review man

Hi Pete - did you ever do anything regarding brake dust - e.g., Carbotech 1521 pads?
I didnt have the car lonh enough unfortunately but was thinking about it. My main concern was cold weather performance in the midwest. Do you have any experience dailying these in the snow/cold?
@@plife911 Unfortunately, I don’t. This would be my first experience with Carbotech, but I need to do something about the dust. It’s just at biblical levels. I didn’t realize that you had let the M3 go. I certainly appreciate the technicality of your M3 review.
Is a 22 M3 competition xDrive a better move than a 22 M550i? They come out to the same $89k MSRP. 🥲
For a family car, no. For a sports car, yes. Theyre different cars.
If they had a smaller turbo with a bigger one the smaller turbo would spool faster and reduce lag
Steering is very fast and precise but has 0 feel at the limits of adhesion
Great review again! Does your wife still have the Macan gts? Now is a great time to trade like you said so I'm happy you got the M.

What are your thoughts on the Tartufo interior, looks much more honey brown in IRL pictures and videos
Its got more orange than i thought and it flops color with light/shade. More of a cinamon. Im a big fan of chocolate browns but this is still my favorite option currently offered. Just not my favorite brown of all time
@@plife911 agree 100% wish it were a darker brown

Can you compare all cars you had in a single video. Is it better than a Porsche. Thanks.
Hi i can try. The cars are different but its definitely better than some porsches ive had. The GT porsches are better tho
Thanks!
I almost never use it
@@plife911 Nice.
Nice ride brother. Will be getting into one soon, did you custom order? How long did you wait?
Thanks. Yeah i ordered it may got it late august but the allocation i got was locking right away. I forgot to mention in the vid i also added executive pack (without laser lights).
@@plife911 nice. Laser lights don’t do much for me. I’d likely save on that and put it towards xdrive.
