    We used to have a Trevi boost shower but the "turbo" (or how ever it worked) was inside the mixer fitting on the wall where the cold pressure would help boost the weaker hot feed. It actually worked quite well. Claiming the turbo will boost pressure in the shower head breaks Newton's law thermodynamics.

    • @gruhwch4876
      @gruhwch4876 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Trevi used a venturi to pull gravity hot water behind a mains cold supply.

    The easiest way to maximise pressure is just to stick your thumb over the end of the shower hose. You won't like the flow rate but the pressure will be as good as you can get without a pump. All a shower head can do is trade off pressure vs flow rate.

    Reminds me of those "smart" handles that borrow power from the water pressure to give you a temperature reading. Except the ones they put for sale in Lidl required 4-5 bar of pressure (!?) and significant flowrate, and even then the display was so dim. And the internal "turbine" was so poorly made it just suffocated a normal healthy shower to be completely unusable. It's easily possible, if it's done right..

    I bought one of these to give it a try. Read reviews but didn't care, was game for an adventure. Well I love this shower. Not sure about more pressure but the pressure is great, and perhaps its the movement of the spray but rinses shampoo out of your hair in a few seconds. And while the filter doesn't look like much, the kicker for me was a rash I have had for 3 years is gone. Used the shower for about 2 weeks and realized I wasn't itching any more. Rash completely gone. Nothing else had worked. I love this shower.

  • @victorhbagnelle4551

    By restricting the openings you increase flow but pressure remains the same. The water coming out of the tiny holes is coming out faster (flowing) but the pressure still depends totally on the height of the water in the tank. Water flows out due to gravity and the pressure is roughly half a pound per square inch for each foot the water level is at. This does not change if you reduce the size of the outlet. Simple hydraulics. Ask any firefighter.

    • @Voluntarists
      @Voluntarists 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If your house is not supplied by an infinitely large pipe, then the size of the nozzle certainly affects the pressure.

    • @jhoughjr1
      @jhoughjr1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Asking someone who has taken engineering physics, The size of the outlet most certainly affects the pressure.
      You can test toricelli's theorem easily enough.

    • @SplinterVoid
      @SplinterVoid 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Voluntarists Yep outlet pressure. Changing the size of the holes adjusts the coefficient "K" in P = (Q/K)^2 , decreasing hole size decreases "K" which is in denominator and therefore results in a larger pressure "P" with the same flow "Q". It's theoretically correct I believe but has its limitations... seems they're taking full advantage of pressure/flow relationships.

    Quick question... low mains pressure into my apartment, isn't this down to Thames water?

    • @psi10001
      @psi10001 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Water suppliers’ statutory service standard level of mains water pressure is 10 metres/head (or one bar). This means there is enough force/pressure to push the water to a height of 10m.
      This is measured at the point where the water leaves the water suppliers pipework and enters yours (usually the outside stop valve or property boundary).
      As a guide, if you have a suitable single service pipe, the first tap in the home (this is usually the kitchen tap) should be able to fill a 4.5 litre (one gallon) bucket in 30 seconds, with all other taps and appliances turned off. Another way of putting it is enough water pressure to fill a cold water storage cistern in a two storey house roofspace.

    • @Nickbaldeagle02
      @Nickbaldeagle02 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends. What floor are you on? They guarantee 1bar at ground level. They wriggle out of low pressure on the first floor and upwards by saying that the property developer should provide water boosting.

Because we thought it was going out, but now with a new one and the same 15 issue I’m questioning it. But the house came with a shower head that had little to no pressure, so I bought a cheap shower head and it has a ton of pressure but the hot water still doesn’t last. So my question is is the high flow of the new shower head the issue?

    THANKS!!! I live in a rented property where the only running hot water is from the immersion tank in a cupboard on the landing. The immersion (judging by the popping and banging) is caked in limescale and the pipes are probably coated in it too. So when I rigged up the mickey mouse push-on-to-the-taps shower attachment I bought, I get a piddling little dribble coming out of the shower head - at chest height. Put the shower head up to head height (I'm only 5'1") and it virtually dries up completely! Having just seen an advert for these things I thought this would be a game changer, but the skeptic in me wasn't convinced. I thought judging from the shape of it there were batteries inside adding to the water pressure.
    Thank goodness I watched your video! Okay this piece of ......"plastic" is only cheap. Surely the pressure doesn't increase depending on the size of pipe? Isn't it something like 1 bar per meter.

    • @bethgmc
      @bethgmc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Remember that pipes create frictional pressure losses that the water has to overcome when flowing through it.
      It is far easier to have 6 litres per minute (0.1 litres per sec) flow through a 28mm pipe then a 15mm pipe. So the larger the pipe, the less frictional losses are created, which means there’s more pressure available at the shower head

    • @victorhbagnelle4551
      @victorhbagnelle4551 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Flow and pipe size do not affect pressure. Do not confuse velocity with pressure. With a garden hose connected to mains water, you increase the speed (velocity) ofte water by squeezing the end of the hose.

  • @Jutilaje
    @Jutilaje 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Pressure is energy. Without adding any additional energy from somewhere else, it violates the laws of physics for this to somehow be able to increase water pressure. In fact, the laws of physics mean that by using some of the pressure to spin the fan, this showerhead actually must decrease pressure (albeit by a minuscule amount since the little fan clearly takes very little energy to spin).

    • @IAintScaredOfNoGhost
      @IAintScaredOfNoGhost 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be pedantic, I think you're technically forgetting about modifying resistance. You can increase pressure by converting flow using resistance (think water hammer). Increasing flow AND pressure however? Laws of thermodynamics definitely apply.

    The turbo fan is just visual serving no purpose from what I can see. I wonder if in the handle there is a variable constriction device, ie for venturi effect. The Venturi effect states that in a situation with constant mechanical energy, the velocity of a fluid passing through a constricted area will increase and its static pressure will decrease. The effect utilizes both the principle of continuity as well as the principle of conservation of mechanical energy. Not sure this product uses this principle though. Sales Gimmick.

It honestly has helped but like the design on that one water stays in the handle which has worried me…… I’m not imagining it, it genuinely comes out stronger, especially on the shower on the top floor. are the ball ones different in design? Are these heads I should look at not using and replacing? Thank you for how you explain things like the pipe sizes etc to help it make sense to people like me who know nothing about this kind of stuff!

      It's just that your new shower head has smaller holes across less area. This increases the pressure as the water doesn't spread out inside the shower head as much

    • @dimitar4y
      @dimitar4y 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's basic physics. The balls don't help. What does help is smaller orifice (holes).
      The physics go as follows. The pump that gives you the water to your home generates FLOW. when that flow is met with resistance i.e. smaller holes, the PRESSURE goes up at EXPENSE of the FLOW. You can make this basic experiment at home. Go to your kitchen. Turn on the tap. Put your finger on the nozzle. The more you squeeze your finger on it, the more violently it squirts out but at significantly smaller amounts. They do the same thing. It's not the balls. It's the smaller holes on the spray head. Just get the "balls" out of it they're just a mold hazard.

    For clarity, I don't believe the shower head shown does this...
    It is technically possible to use a large amount of low pressure flow to pressurise a smaller amount of higher pressure flow. You'd need to design part of the system as a turbine and part as a compressor. That way some of the water flowing through the head would lose energy (pressure) going through the head and some would gain energy.

      While you can have, "Ionizing beads" they're called filter medium, and used to filter water into pure water. They come in three types - particle filter that blocks out large pieces, negative charged to get rid of half the garbage, then 3rd stage positive charge to get rid of the other garbage, bonus if you get 4th stage activated charcoal/carbon filter; But they use chemical resins that deplete their charge and need to be replaced over time. THOSE ones you talk about,... are garbage.

    Okay I understand what you’re getting at and yeah you’re right! , and yes the broken English is misleading. But I’m gonna school you on one thing. Before that though I need to mention mine is electric diaphragm pump so Obviously not gravity feed. Plus mine doesn’t have the back scratcher or the see-through filter cover it’s chrome . Also mine was only NZ$17 from China with nothing written on the box. and I have zip tied the throttle open . No brothers made my one possibly, but it looks exactly the same as yours besides those differences I mentioned . I’ve recently purchased one of these and I’m gonna go out there and say it’s the best showerhead I have ever used.
    The turbo/ fan actually directs the water evenly through at the back of the perforated plate. I have run my showerhead without the fan and it literally squirts harder out the top holes then the bottom holes. Refit the fan and it evenly sprays with the perfect pattern. Definitely a good cheap showerhead!!! Not a paid promotion

    An i right in saying that pressure is baaed solely on the height of the 'stacked' water. Like a tank with 10 litres of water vs a tank with a 1000 litres of water, will have the same pressure if they are the same height (if both tanks have an outlet at the same position)?

    I suspect this device does work and that it doesn't break any laws of physics.
    However, I think it probably works in only certain circumstances where there is good pressure but poor flow.
    In other words the restriction lies in the pipework - such as lots of 90 degree bends or flexi pipes.
    So, by restricting the outlet flow you could see a significant increase in line pressure - up towards your feed pressure.
    Technically, the water in the pipe stays flowing below its Reynolds number and doesn't go into turbulent flow at the restrictions.
    You will get the best shower when flow and pressure are optimum - not when you maximise just one.
