That was just painful to watch. I did a recovery this winter that was just as frustrating. 11" of fresh snow helping clear main street downtown for the plows. Lady had an AWD no tow points and absolutely no common sense. Told her three times exactly what we were going to do. My son walked beside the vehicle repeatedly telling her the same thing I told her and she kept driving it right back into the drift. After many attempts I was able to get her to let my 15 y/o do di it for her and boom we're were out. 🤦🏻♂️. Lots of respect for not losing your cool with them. Completely understand.
I love that you do so much for people and you never charge them a penny the world needs more kind people like you. I would choose the 2 inch shackle hitch
You do a great service for people. You are absolutely correct they had no business out the and no clue what they were doing. You did a good job not losing your cool with them. Also I'd pick a spare tire trash bag I've been needing one when we go out we always try to carry out what we can
Another great one! I get stoked every time my notification bell goes off. Respect for not being afraid to talk about your mistakes and teaching us what you should have done! I’d pick some Lime 7/16 Soft Shackles!
Great video and like others have said the frustration is completely understandable. There is no reason for anyone to go out with some knowledge with all of the great instructional videos that are out now a days. Thanks again for all of the great detailed instructions and even owning up to the correct way with using the tree saver with the single vehicle pull. I would appreciate 7/16" Soft Shackles would be great in building up my kit.
I love seeing folks team up to help total strangers ! Good video man. This is now one of the few channels I actively look for new videos everyday. If I won I would pick a snatch block 👌😎🇺🇸💪
People think all wheel drive and 4x4 mean their vehicle can climb mountains, lol. great recovery, hope they really appreciate all of you taking your time to save their vehicle from where they shouldn't have been. If I win, may I please win the 2" shackle hitch receiver.
Your frustrations are understandable and right on. It can also be frustrating when there are too many people on scene with their own ideas of how best to recover. Usually "more than one way to skin a cat". Pick one a go with it - then adapt and overcome. Another entertaining video that helps us all learn from other people's experience. Good job! Gotta get me some more soft shackles.
I picked up a bridle that has the J hooks and the other attachments to fit in the holes on the frame for recoveries like this. I haven’t had to use it yet but I have it for when I need it. I could use another snatch block so that’s what I’d pick if I win.
What a mess they got themselves into. Good job getting them out. Nice to see you had all kinds of help. Sometimes some damage can’t be avoided. The owner put the vehicle at risk by going on those trails. Also, I have helped people recover, and many are not even aware of the factory tow point and eyelet. About 50% of the time, the brand new vehicles don’t have an eyelet. They have to be bought from a dealership. And when using a screw in eyelet, make sure you tighten in good. Most of the eyelets are 1/2” - 5/8” or even a bit larger in diameter. 80-100 foot pounds of torque is a ballpark range. Be sure to thread it all the way in until it stops. And make sure it’s more than finger tight. I use the handle of the lug wrench to “field” torque it. Tow truck drivers often complain about the tow points being weak. Many won’t use them. They fasten to other parts of the vehicle. But in your particular situation, sometimes there are no other options. I’d like a snatch box. Ideally it’s best to have three. That way you can put together some very “condition specific” rigging configurations. And trust me, I fully understand your frustration with individuals who are completely unprepared. I’ve helped many recover over the years. Most frustrating for me is when children are involved. No food, no water, no extra clothing or blankets, etc. Being prepared can/does save lives. Especially in extreme heat, or the freezing cold. In years past, I’ve recovered people who have slid off a snowy/icy road. And about 95% of the time, they are not prepared for any type of emergency. With children in the car. I often “suggest” to these folks that they use a suitcase and make themselves an emergency kit. Put it in their vehicle. It does not cost that much and may save lives. Canned meats, nuts, water, juice, dried fruits or canned fruits, etc. first aid kit. A bar of soap, wash cloth, hand towel. And of course a can opener if needed. Some of my most joyful and fond memories are those times when I’ve given a child a can of peaches, and a bottle of water to snack on, while I help their parent(s) recover. Food usually calms children. Being stuck in the snow can be very frightening. I’ve seen it many times. People come to Flagstaff Az to “see” snow. To “play” But very often are not prepared in any manner. I’ve recovered people who came to Flagstaff to “see” snow and end up sliding off the road. They were wearing t-shirts, shorts, and flip flops. It made no sense to me. But I’m glad I was able to help them, and get them back on the road.
Wes, you have a great level of patience and have noticed in other videos you always have nice/positive things to say about certain things and situations. Keep up the great work 👍.
Another great recovery video from you Wes. The do’s and dont’s of recovery and towing is great. I would love some soft shackles. Got my kinetic strap arriving this week.
Excellent work Wes. There’s no way to have every tool for every car. We do the very best with what we have and improve our toolbox as we go. You’re a great person! Keep up the excellent work.
Watched this one just after watching the one from snow covered Placerville in CA. So this Nissan was a year ago, in FL, and then you were in Placerville a few months ago. You go back and fourth? I love your vids. You are generous bud. World needs more people like you.
You guys did a great job with what you were working with, that vehicle should not have been out there. Thanks for your tips on the correct way to hookup the vehicle. I could definitely use a snatch block.
People sure think they can go anywhere, great advice Given for new to off roading peeps. Multiple recovery points, proper recovery straps, and FRIENDS !
Every car I ever came across has a transmission parking release or override. Usually hidden right by shifter. Look for little 1/4 plastic button cover. I’ve got a 2015 Pathfinder. Let me know if you want me to look it up and post a pic on FB.
I would choose soft shackle they are so versatile definitely a good piece of kit to always have ive got a couple of home made ones out of some winch rope they do work thats for sure
Man i was thinking they are not that smart and shouldn't be out there and when you said it i spit my beer on my phone. Love the video. I would love a recovery bag. Keep up the good work
Another great video in the bag my friend. Always learn something, this video taught me that patience is strong within you LOL...... Keep the good times rolling as well as the cameras.
Aye aye ayyyyye…. I have 1 tree saver and see why 2 is better. I also need to get something to connect to the toe screw. I would like another tree saver is the drawing is still open.
Another great video! Thanks for sharing the adventure. Wow 5 days stranded, that couple must have been real happy to see you guys!! If i won, I would love a set of soft shackles
That’s something to consider, if I should start carrying stuff like that for peoples vehicles. I’d probably go with the super shackles, they just came out after I got the 3/4 shackles.
I got into doing this because of watching your videos. I’ve been rescuing people for the past month or so in the Lake Meade area of Las Vegas where I live. Planning on starting a channel. Pulled out 5 people today and one just like this car. I wish every car had those recovery points in the front. Most people don’t even know they have it.
Great video like always. This one was a tough recovery. If a broken bumper is all that is damaged then if I was that lady, I would be very appreciative. I would love the snatch block.
Wes I agree with you vehicles like that are not made for off road in anyway. if you are going to go off road you should know what you are doing and be prepared. I always set the TH-cam reminder for your videos. I love your content
another great video .. I would get some soft shackles.. or maybe pay it towards a kinetic rope .. try driver and passenger instead of left and right .. usually helps avoid any confusion
Another good recovery and chance to learn. Just last week I learned a lesson. I went out with some others and before I left the house thought “it won’t be that bad.” Well it got that bad…and then some. Luckily I had my basic recovery gear but no saw, shovel, or hi-lift which would have helped. I was buried in mud and needed winched backwards but no one or way to do it. I know with the correct equipment you can winch yourself backwards problem is I don’t have enough snatch blocks. I want to have at least four and a winch extension. My obvious pick would be a snatch block.
I am just catching up on a bunch of your old videos, your notification bell is probably going crazy with all these. On days like this, don't sell yourself short on your skills. very people people have the "can help" attitude, that is your super power.
You had you work cut out for you with both the vehicle recovery and the driver. Well done with the tutorial in the middle 👍🏼 If you’re offering, I’d love to have a Shackle Hitch Receiver 👀
Here soon I’ll be doing recoveries. I’ve got a 03 F250 4x4 but it’s to long to really do anything with so I went and got a 88 W150 power ram short bed. Gotta do some work to it so hopefully in a couple weeks it will be ready. I gotta replace the complete braking system. Only thing good on it are the metal lines. The rubber lines and everything else have to be changed.
I agree with you 100% should never be out in that terrain with a car ! Alone at night ! Nice work getting it out with the proper equipment and no damage Rino style 👍😎
Great video, as for the giveaway, I would choose the receiver shackle. I think that this would get used a ton. It would also make recoveries much easier and quicker!
From the sounds that the engine made when you were trying to start it I would say there is a good chance that there was water in the cylinders. Yes sometimes with a good battery you can still crank the engine over, & it will sometimes even start, but where water does not compress it has a tendency to bend connecting rods & or break pistons :-( It is best to check the engine air filter for signs of water before trying to start a vehicle that has been in the water like that. Removing all spark plugs & turning the engine over by hand can save a lot of costly repairs. Just my 2 cents worth, I enjoy your videos.
It wasn’t I tore it apart it hade no water and it was just out of gas that sound is us runing out of gas our engine mounts are bad so we get bad knocking when it runs out it runs just no management system and. Computer is toast but runs lol it’s funny that car people don’t know this
@@FrankchusXL Keep It Simple Stupid, the easier answer is often the correct one. It was obviously out of gas, I laughed at everyone jumping to these wild conclusions.
If I was chosen I would pick the spare tire bag so I would have a place to put thing while doing trail clean up so if you pick me that's what I could really use to help keep our trails clean & opened.
There’s also rules when using a bridle. If too short it puts side pressure. There’s a guy in Australia that made a great vid talking about minimum lengths depending on how wide the tow points are apart.
My mom drives a 2015 Hyundai Accent. She bought it used and it didn’t have the factory tow hook you screw in. The point was there but she didn’t have the hook. I bought her the hook off ebay for about 15-20 dollars. She didn’t understand why she needed it but I told her “just in case.” It will be less headache for me or anyone else pulling your car out. As for the giveaway, I’d love to have a snatch block. Those things look handy af. Even if I don’t use it for a recovery there have been plenty of times I wish I had one to move a fallen tree out of the road after a good snow or bad storm. Love the video. Probably gonna get a set a screws now off Amazon after seeing how much headache it is without them. Also wanted to ask one question, would you ever do the 36 hours of Uwharrie for Rhino USA? That would be a great way to help promote their products, and a good test for them as well.
I’d pick a spare tire trash bag. I’m up in Ocala every other weekend in the wrangler with my Great Dane, and am sick of seeing so much trash on the trail but am selective of what I pick up case the pup tries getting into it.. having the separate bag would eliminate that risk and keep the trash outside the Jeep
That kid in the blue shirt really had a hard time comprehending the situation and unable to steer his car… so frustrating 😂😂 I definitely would love just a shackle hitch receiver 💪🏼 🔥
Great recovery. It's definitely a challenge to extract a vehicle like that & even more patience working with the vehicle owners Lol. I sure could use a snatch block
Its nice to see people enjoy the outdoors. However everyone should know and stay within their limits and that of their vehicle/gear. Not being prepared and no experience make a bad combination which can result in injuries or worse. Thankfully and lucky for such people, that there are those who are able to do what you do. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience which helps us to help ourselves and others. I would choose either a snatch block or a kinetic rope and pay the difference. Keep up the great work.
some people just don't understand. i was raised on a red clay road which had 2 large hills will small creeks at the bottom was bad when raining learned how to drive under those conditions makes a difference ya'll did a good job
It's frustrating to deal with that scenario. Hopefully they learned a valuable lesson. I could use a kinetic rope, I would happily pay the difference.. good job either way..
This recovery had us laughing outloud at the polite way you dealt with the "challenge". Although this recovery clearly didn't need it, a snatch block would be my choice. It has proven to be the magic for most recoveries.
2" Shackle Hitch and Recovery Snatch Block are the only items I'm missing from the recovery gear I already own, that engine sounded like it was trying to compress water when it was turning over, afraid it may have had water leak into cylinders from exhaust valve being open or made its way in via the air filter.. good education point in the vid bud, keep it up.
Nice work. Only so much you can do, but you got them out. Insurance can handle the rest. I could use a kenetic rope or a hitch shackle for sure! But anything is helpful!
Y’all did one heck of a job getting that out with minimal damage from the recovery especially since it was definitely somewhere that made the recovery so especially difficult with the lack of tow points As for the item I think another snatch block would be a good choice because they can be such an essential piece of recovery gear
Hey Wess next time check for a little cap by the gear lever and pop in out and press in with a small screwdriver or something that fits and force it into neutral. Otherwise excellent job!
Next on the list from rhino is the kinetic rope. It is amazing how well it works. And I have to agree these manufacturers do gotta get better about including the tow point key.
Tow lines would be nice. It’s good to see someone using the products to the max. I will be picking up some rhino gear. Also, there should have been some kind of override for the transmission position, normally by the shifter. 🤷🏼♂️
This is a really good video & subject, so many people do not understand the limitations of a vehicle (off road, hauling, etc) because of misleading marketing or just plain lack of common sense for usage. The bumper was unfortunate but it could have been so much worse if a less experienced person(s) had been recruited for the extraction.
Oh boy! There was a whole lot of bad there. Still, glad you pointed out that it's better to use a single strap for a bridal instead of a double when using to tow points. Not sure costs less than $60 these days, but like you've said before, you can't have too many recovery straps!
One thing I've seen recovery crew's like Justin King with the colorado 4x4 recovery is when the vehicle there recovering and towing back if it doesn't have any brakes they rig up one of there recovery vehicles to act as brakes until they get the dead vehicle to the staging area and loaded up on a roll back
"I'm pretty sure we're out of fuel"
How do these people live.
Obviously your frustration was understandable Wes. Excellent work!
I got a question for you how come you didn't drive the car

I've had issues with lack of signage in Arkansas where I got onto a trail that ended up being closed and didn't know it.
Gots to pull the air filter and plugs. Crank it over and clear the intake. Reinstall plugs and fire it up. Done it many times.

Nice work helping those folks out. Great reminder to be prepared. I could use some of the soft shackles for my recovery gear kit.
Harrison recommended your channel to me and I see why. I learned a few things in this video. Thanks
Thank you for all that you do with these recoveries. We are outfitting my son's ZJ. And we are not picky.
Dealer's choice.

Synthetic soft shackles , would be my first soft shackles to own. Thanks and keep your good work and helping others.

Usually hidden right by shifter. Look for little 1/4 plastic button cover.
I’ve got a 2015 Pathfinder. Let me know if you want me to look it up and post a pic on FB.
Well done! Appreciate your insight on how to tackle these crazy recoveries.

I’ve heard it said “Common sense isn’t a common commodity “. This recovery is proof of that! I would use the heck out of some axle straps.
All I use is tow chain I wish I had a strap safer and smoother pull great job helping them out in the little suv
Tow strap. Nice work and you are spot on about being prepared if you are will to send it in that type of vehicle.
Great video like always. This one was a tough recovery. If a broken bumper is all that is damaged then if I was that lady, I would be very appreciative. I would love the snatch block.

Love the videos. Keep them coming
i thinking most people dont have enough shackles great vid and your right new cars need operators with common seance
Thanks for sharing the proper way to tow

Way to stay calm and get the job done. I could see you were starting to frustrated but some zen breathing helped out.
I can’t believe the types of vehicles people take in places they don’t belong. Great job on getting that out.
If I win, I’d like to try one of the light weight snatch blocks.
All mine are heavy duty and thus heavy.
some people just don't understand. i was raised on a red clay road which had 2 large hills will small creeks at the bottom was bad when raining learned how to drive under those conditions makes a difference ya'll did a good job
Jeep Calvary saves the day! Details at 11:00. I'm liking the 30' tow strap. Thanks
Nice work. Only so much you can do, but you got them out. Insurance can handle the rest. I could use a kenetic rope or a hitch shackle for sure! But anything is helpful!
Another good rescue - nice work. I could use a recovery tow strap 🙌
The 2019 and newer Nissan Rogues come with tow hooks that go into the back and front bumper (you choose).
Wasn’t in there
Nice work yet again on the recovery and the video. A snatch block would be cool.
Wow, thanks again for the video.
I would use a pair of green soft sackles! 😁
Y’all did one heck of a job getting that out with minimal damage from the recovery especially since it was definitely somewhere that made the recovery so especially difficult with the lack of tow points
As for the item I think another snatch block would be a good choice because they can be such an essential piece of recovery gear
1/2" synthetic soft shackles would be a nice addition to my present Rhino gear. Keep up the good work!!
Another great video man. Keep it up. One day I'll shake your hand out at Rancho.
I think I enjoyed your commentary most in this video. This was a great recovery.
Some times people don't understand that awd does not mean offroad worthy, but you guys got them out, with lots of patience
my wilderness says otherwise. not rock climbing but off-road, yes.
HAHAHA no way they took that little thing in there but they did ! Man You help those in need nonstop....4x4 Rescue Saints
Hey Wess next time check for a little cap by the gear lever and pop in out and press in with a small screwdriver or something that fits and force it into neutral. Otherwise excellent job!
Next on the list from rhino is the kinetic rope. It is amazing how well it works. And I have to agree these manufacturers do gotta get better about including the tow point key.
checking to see if the air filter is not saturated might be a no start fix.
Tow lines would be nice. It’s good to see someone using the products to the max. I will be picking up some rhino gear. Also, there should have been some kind of override for the transmission position, normally by the shifter. 🤷🏼♂️
4x30 recovery strop would be awesome to win ! Another great video thank you for the good content!!
Did they not have the front hook? Every Nissan comes with one, under trunk lid.
We checked, it wasn’t there unfortunately
Definitely don't leave the fire roads in Citrus WMA. $300+ fine for "destruction of state property". Speaking from experience.
Good recovery with a calm voice for the job snatch block
Nice job man. Hard to work with situations like that. The snatch block would be an awesome prize for someone
You are very patient, I would of been like please get out and let me guide your vehicle.
Oh boy! There was a whole lot of bad there. Still, glad you pointed out that it's better to use a single strap for a bridal instead of a double when using to tow points. Not sure costs less than $60 these days, but like you've said before, you can't have too many recovery straps!
Just wondering, couldn't they have set the parking brake to stop the rear wheels from rotating?
One thing I've seen recovery crew's like Justin King with the colorado 4x4 recovery is when the vehicle there recovering and towing back if it doesn't have any brakes they rig up one of there recovery vehicles to act as brakes until they get the dead vehicle to the staging area and loaded up on a roll back
