HIGHLY recommend an OBD like you did in the video. Loving the video series and learning a lot! Few questions since I want to start flipping cars as well. 1.) how long does it usually take you to sell the cars you flip? if it takes too long do you lower your prices? 2.) what if someone asks for trade ups? do you accept (if its a good offer of course) or do you just ignore them/tell them you would prefer cash instead
Hehe this is what I have been doing since I was about 16 years old in 1993, starting with mopeds (scooters) and later cars, and after some years more imported cars from Germany (to Denmark), and for the last 10 years it has been turning more into flipping houses and flats. :)

I'm a car dealer myself and pride myself on not only reputation but quality. You are putting a lot of effort into getting the minimum. Might as well go that extra step to maximize your profit. Don't undervalue your talent especially in today's market. It is a used car but it is a new car to someone else. Make it as perfect as possible and you will get the higher end of kbb. I use several sources myself to evaluate my potential profit. I get what I am asking about 99% of the time. All in all, my family has been doing this 38 years and I have a degree in marketing which makes my skill level higher than most. What do I know, though? You are only showing me so much, right? 😉

I’ve been seriously considering flipping a car to branch out a little from doing furniture and this video explained the process so well. Such a good video!!
I think you are more a restoration company than a flipping company. You restore and deeply investigate issues and repair, much like the house restoration shows. A flip is if I bought this BMW from you at 4000 and then sold it for 4400, without doing anything. You and your girlfriend are knowledgeable and gifted! Thank you for another Vid!
Hey man im still working on it. Apreciate your support! It takes alot of time. Making actual good video takes daysss. Since starting 4 months ago ive gains a new level of respect for TH-camrs!!
Hey buddy, thanks for showing this video it is very educational! Im not a car guru but i do use the flipping technique to upgrade my driving-car as i go, from 1990s daihatsu charade that i own 10 years ago ($500) to 2016 mitsubishi outlander ($15000) 3 years ago, a long way tho! Whenever i sold my car, i would drive my partner's car until i spotted a new potential car. The most challenging part for me is always understanding the car's mechanics so i always stick to the good old toyota. If it has a logbook and the car sounds right (basic oil leak check and etc), i will just buy it right away and have it serviced at my friend's mechanic shop (which is a bonus if you know someone). I always wanted to learn how to spray paint a car because the exterior look always sells better. Im able to do a bit of interior detailing so that helps. Adding door visor, window tint, changing car's audio player to third party touch screen tablet and adding dashcam are my other ways of adding value as long as the profit margin hits right. You just motivated me to want to spray paint my car now!
Painting a car, without a booth or the right equipment, is a nightmare process. So this isn't for beginners but it's definitely possible. Very impressed this was just a weekend of work for you and a helper! (2150$ for 30 hours? works out to ~70$/h?)
Watched both flipping videos. Great quality in every aspect of both! I’d like to get into this to augment my income and start at the bottom because I just don’t have much of a budget to start off. I’d like to see flipping of more low end but dependable vehicles like Toyota and Honda for those of us who want to start out with lower budgets. Maybe $200-300 cars that don’t need more than a couple hundred in parts and selling when done in the $750-1250 range. Camry, Corolla, Accord, Civic or others in that category. Also, repairs that only require moderate toolsets. Thanks a lot for your great content and production quality.
Just in case you were curious, you got me to subscribe within 34 seconds. Your demeanor felt true and you weren't begging to have me view you. Good on you lad, great first impression. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.
So inspirational man. You earned 2 grand working on a weekend. I also agree with what you said earlier about how you should never look at it like it is just a flip man. A shit reputation will put you out of business real quick.
I have used Macco many times. I have found that it is all about the prep work. Do the prep work yourself and take everything off of the car you do not want painted. Sand it down yourself, body work everything. Then when you take it in pay for their extra Deluxe paint. It's worth it. I've had several cars last well over 10 years with Macco paint going that route.
Question. I scrolled for a bit and didn't see it asked so I'm sorry if you've answered it before. In some states there's a limit on how many cars someone can sell before they have to get a "dealer's license" or something like that. Have you had to do something like that or do you live in a state where it's not necessary. I want to flip cars too but they say in VA where I live, I can only sell 5 cars per year unless I become a dealer or something. This was really educational man thank you.
Awesome man. Yeah I recommend you do your first 5 and then you can make the decision if it's worth getting your dealer license. Also if you have a significant other, brother, sister, parent you can have the title under their name as well (with their permission of course)
Congrats, what an amazing video. I’m glad to see that you remain firm about doing things right about the paint and didn’t go the cheap way to save couple dollars and put in risk your reputation. Cheers all the way from Panama City, Panama 🇵🇦
Just found your channel, you got some good ass videos man thank you. One thing you’re doing in addition to showing us how to work with our hands is the business aspect, something a lot of us forget!
@@BuddysDIY Yeah, my motivation is to be able to get myself a plug-in hybrid, but I currently don't have the money for one, so I want to be able to try trading up cars to work my way up there over the next couple of years. Really pumped by your vids actually, nothing like this in my country (NZ)
Something absolutely crucial and not mentioned in this video, is that to get parts at a reasonable cost you need to get a mechanic license. And don't forget, depending of your state, you have to pay sales taxes when buying a new or used car. In some states you don't paid sales taxes, or you only paid the difference between old and new for trade in, but for most states you paid full states taxes for any transaction, for example 9.25% in California and about 2% DMV.
@@jz3430 when you buy the car and transfer the ownership, you need to pay the tax. unless the seller doesn't care, then the car is still under his ownership. most of seller won't do this.
@@bluegables incorrect. See my original comment. Sales tax is paid when you register the car. The sales tax is calculated at the tax rate for the county and state that you register the vehicle in.
Great job and very informative. If I could ask for 1 thing it would be for actual hours of time spent on repairs, etc. vs. profit. As they say- time is money. When you have kids you realize how true that statement is, and how much "time" is actually worth. It's one of the few things you can't make more of. Enjoying what you are doing can also be priceless.

Rather than investing in that painting equipment, I would try to work out a "wholesale" deal with a local paint shop as you will be a frequent customer, but otherwise this is great content. Keep up the good work!
I don't think a shop (reputable body shop) would touch it for less than $3, 000, even doing it on the side as I do I would still have charged $2000 for that job, base coat/ clear coat though with wet sand and polished. Definitely good for you learning to do it yourself, otherwise profits disappear quickly. TC in Annapolis MD

HIGHLY recommend an OBD like you did in the video. Tested an old 350z out, used obd to find out it had an engine code (it was a minor issue), and used that as a negotiation tactic to grab that baby for $2000 even.
Sold it earlier this year for $4000. OBD not only saves lives, it also helps a TON with negotiations

Oop just found a comment where you answered my question lol awesome. I'm going to try my first flip because of you
Awesome man. Yeah I recommend you do your first 5 and then you can make the decision if it's worth getting your dealer license. Also if you have a significant other, brother, sister, parent you can have the title under their name as well (with their permission of course)
Don't register it, sell it to the next person using old persons info 😂

She's dope? Welcome to the channel!!
Agreed. You have a great partner 🙂
Something absolutely crucial and not mentioned in this video,
is that to get parts at a reasonable cost you need to get a mechanic license.
And don't forget, depending of your state, you have to pay sales taxes when buying a new or used car.
In some states you don't paid sales taxes, or you only paid the difference between old and new for trade in,
but for most states you paid full states taxes for any transaction,
for example 9.25% in California and about 2% DMV.
You only pay sales tax when you register the car. If he had it for only a few days, then he probably didn't register it.
