      Actually you didn't add in the cost of your time at an hourly rate when computing what you had in the vehicle...so you made less than 177/ hr depending on what your time is worth. You didn't calculate net profit.

    • @That70sChannel
      @That70sChannel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnwren3976 You could calculate some sort of opportunity cost or carrying costs for his capital invested (and returned) but if you want to discuss his outlay of capital that's an ROI problem.
      He gets to use that same capital over and over again. Sure he had to earn it at some time in the past, but capital is capital whether it's in your wallet or you borrow it from the bank. You don't subtract the value of a mechanic's tools from his hourly earnings just because he used past hourly wages to buy the tools that he uses over and over thereafter.
      What if he paid the entire amounts of expenses with a cash advance for the card and bought his parts and supplies? He could have paid off all his sundry charges before any charges for them accrued. In that case his entire carrying charge would be whatever the cash advance fee was.

    Glad to see "time spent" factored into the equation. I'm sure other factors like "mental anguish" and "anxiety" could be factored in as well, but 'time spent' is a very practical measurable baseline to start with. I've been buying and selling for over 20 years and I have not been very good at fixing anything up I am not mechanical. If I had your abilities to go with the sales knowledge I already have I'd be a gazillionaire. I thought a lot of the way you read into the way the description of their ads was written was genius and very true. Plus it's essential to pass on top skills like yours to the next generation so they don't die with you, and that the art/legacy can live on.

    One thing he didn’t mention is whenever you mess with suspension or front end components always get an alignment after. In his case it would have been a lot smarter to get the 4 tires then bring it home . Change the ball joint then back to the shop for an alignment. Even just that millimeter of play in the ball joint can cause your angles to be different.

    Great video, I learned a lot. So I thought I would return the favor. When you encounter uneven break pad wear, especially if you find the caliper mounting bolts are seized. Take the break caliper off of the knuckle. Support the caliper via wire or rope. Never allow a caliper to hang by it's own weight. Place a block of wood in the caliper, and have a friend depress the brakes. If you then find scoring, or pitting in the pistons. Replace the caliper.

    Really useful as I tend to buy and sell. Just bought my first car to flip, and also had a list of things Ive ticked off. My prob is that I'm not mechanical, so apart from simple stuff, and cleaning, I need to factor in labour. On pricing, I sellbquite a lot of things on the Wallapop Spanish site, and my rule for anything is NEVER meet the buyer without them agreeing to somewhere near the price first. It'll save hours of unpaid labour. If they turn up and then lowball you and just want to try the car, you've been taken for a sucker. I normally block stupid low offer makers without replying. I tell potentials that I'm not a dealer and can't give test drives unless we get to the last stage. Honestly, I'd say this is the most important thing I've learned selling bikes and cars. Avoid time wasters!! You got 6, but could've got more. I wouldn't have met that guy 😄, I'm subscribed. Great tutorials!
