      I only seriously got into baseball about five years ago (I'm from Yurop and Baseball is not a thing where I live). It always struck me as a sport that produces defensive highlights more than offensive ones. Nasty pitches, crazy athleticism, stunning robberies... I find that part of the game much more appealing than just whacking the ball out of the stadium.

      I’m watching this 8 months later and yeah, it’s entertaining to see how mad Dave Roberts is. But his angry reaction still gets me angry. For one he’s not reacting to Jansen giving up the hit, he’s reacting to Taylor making the error. He’s still a damn fool for putting in Jansen with a 1 run lead, a damn fool. I blame him and Jansen for this loss, not Taylor or Smith.

      One of the craziest. But I think one of the most unexpected and insane things in sports history was when Foreman knocked down Frazier for the first time in his storied career. ''Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier!'' Yelled an astonished Howard Cosell. Of course I did not see it LIVE. OK --- Game 6 of the 1991 World Series. Tie game. Twins vs Braves. Up comes Kirby Puckett and it's a well tagged ball. It flies out for a home run and the announcer said, ''That's a long one from Kirby Puckett ... and we'll see you tomorrow night!'' There is no Minnesotan that doesn't know that line.

      @sleeth11 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@TheBalloonHoax a classic tale of ballplayers getting cocky. The most notable part of it IMO is Jansen not covering Smith behind the plate. As Jomboy noted, it may not have made a difference due to the ump (I didn’t catch this live, I actually thought smith got his glove on the ball and deflected it). But this play was 2 cases in a row of players getting ahead of themselves - Taylor didn’t watch the ball into his glove & neither did smith, but I blame the smith part on a lack of communication support from his team - Muncy probably should’ve cut it off and ran toward home plate instead of throwing it to Smith.

      Everybody is getting this wrong. Jansen was in the correct position. He wasn’t supposed to be backing up the catcher. He was (correctly) anticipating a rundown on Randy Arozarena. Turner (3B) and Smith (C) were to be the ends of the rundown and Jansen was to be the side man. He was in perfect position for the play that he saw developing. He did nothing wrong.

With the caliber of talent the Dodgers have and how much this organization spends on it, there was no reason for all the ridiculous decisions Roberts made yesterday. He's been poorly managing the pitching staff for a long while and I've had it with his inexplicable infatuation with Kenley, who should have been demoted months ago. But yea, it would have been nice if Beane's A's would have won it all first.
