he was pitching up and in the same way the Rays pitched our guys. When you pitch up and in theres a chance you lose some control and a ball goes right at a guys head. The Rays know that, the Yankees know that, everyone with any baseball IQ knows that. That's why Boone and the Yankees were pissed that they were doing it on them. No, because the Rays threw over DJ Lemahieu's head in the 8th inning after he hit 2 HR in the game. That wasn't highlighted in this breakdown so a lot of people are missing that important detail. The Rays have been knocking down our hitters all year long by throwing high and inside. Then after throwing over DJ's head in the 8th inning, Chapman came out and did the same to them.
@@jimduggan8962 wasn't aware of the 8th inning incident. Thanks for clarifying that. Nonetheless, 101 MPH fastball to a man's face not gonna make the situation better? 🤔
@@johnpenley It's not something that should ever happen but unfortunately there are pitchers out there that think its ok to throw at people. And when you have that then opposing pitchers have to defend their teammates. You know teams don't like it if they see their pitcher hitting people intentionally for no reason because they know that puts their hitters in danger. Its as old as the game being played. Rays have thought its ok for them to do but needed a clear message for them to knock it off. I mean look at even 2 years ago (a lot of the same players and same manager) Kittredge threw at Romine's head for the stupidest reason. Then when CC hit their player in the leg (the "right way" to send a message) the Rays were all in their dugout crying and couldn't understand why he did that. They're pathetic.
@@jimduggan8962 what are you talking about? DJ didn't even bat in the 8th, my man. He had an AB in the 7th, but none of the 3 pitches were even remotely close to him...
Jomboy is a Yankees fan so he's got his biases. I'll give him credit, he often doesn't show it, but this video definitely was blatant that he is bias for the Yankees.
ok but the Rays have been throwing at the Yankees all season. Obviously there's no way that chapman should throw at a guys head, but everything else the rays had coming to them.
That's not the full story. The last series the Rays hit Yankees batters too, and were jawing a lot too. Every series in New York has been tense and there have been other benches clearing incidents too. Usually it's calmer in the Trop because it's empty (remember pre covid times), but it's something about Yankee Stadium that raises the tension in the games. And to also be clear the Yankees hit back too, it's not like the Yankees have just been taking, they were hitting back too.
My favorite part of the whole thing is Cash going it’s poor coaching, they handled it poorly blah blah, just to finish with “I got a stable of guys that throw 98.” Like how dare you throw at us, but we’ll happily do it back -_-
Baseball is so stupid sometimes. Let’s put these hitters at risk of getting hurt, possibly life threatening shit if they get drilled in the head, just because of some petty disagreements. I hope both sides meet before game time tomorrow and agree that throwing at each other is stupid.
Not exactly petty disagreements. Well the Romine situation from 2 years ago was completely absurd for the Rays to do that. Then they were pitching high and inside on us knocking so many of our players down. That's very dangerous as a pitch can easily get away (like it did from Chapman) and cause bodily harm. Rays had no problem with doing it but different when its done to them. In baseball when you have punks like the Rays, you need to "protect your players" by showing them you can do that too. Otherwise they'll just keep doing it to you. Kinda like a bully you need to stand up to. Rays are obviously very stupid and Cash is telling everyone he's not going to allow someone to get even.
Jim Duggan Lol come on dude. The Romine thing is ancient history and he’s not even on the team anymore anyway. Rays might’ve been pitching inside but the Yankees were the only team to hit anybody during that game. It’s not justified for either team, it’s just being stupid for no reason
Jim Duggan except he didn’t say anything about the hbp in the first, because that was a response to not liking being pitched high and in (which, btw get over it, high and in is a part of the game) He’s rightfully pissed that Chapman threw 3 near 100 mph fastballs at guys heads (also, how fucking biased are you to try and claim that the 101 behind the hitters head “got away” from Chapman. Give me a fucking break). The point was made in the first, that’s fine. But to have a guy who is capable of 105 mph throw at someone’s head? That can end careers.
first name last name Lol, suspending Chapman would be bs there is no real reason for Chapman to risk putting the tying run at the plate when the Yankees are desperate to beat the Rays. The throw was mostly likely unintentional Chapman misses a lot and has no real motivation other than bc Rays pitchers were throwing high and in. I can’t see risking a win over something like that, it was prob an accident. No way they can say they know for certain it was intentional, suspension is a dumb idea.
@@jimduggan8962 Dude you're making this same exact thing on every comment, and it's wrong, lmao. DJ didn't bat in the 8th, he grounded out in the 7th after 3 pitches. Down and away, middle down, middle inside. Go be salty about your 2-8 record somewhere else.
Of course the pitch 3 years ago was suspect but you gotta let it go at some point. They clearly retaliated in the first inning and everything was settled. A 100 mph by Chapman at someone's head is endangering their career. Love you Jomboy but the Yankees bias is showing through on this one.
It wasn't about what happened 2 years ago (yes 2, not 3). That was just to provide context on the headhunting history of Kittredge against the Yankees. The Rays had been knocking Yankees hitters down all year by throwing high and tight which is dangerous. In the 8th inning of that game, they threw over DJ Lemahieu's head after he hit 2 HR in the game. Chapman came in the next inning and did the same to the Rays to defend his teammates, easily justifiable. Honestly applaudable. Rays are pathetic.
Giovanni Cruz oh I get it. Because we are the Yankees when we get thrown at we are supposed to just sit there and take it because we are more “higher classed” than everyone else. So we don’t have the right to retaliate. I see what you did there.
Christopher J. Roura bro no one said y’all had to take it. What I’m saying is there is no excuse why in the last innings of a game should it still be going on. They did it in the beginning and got there revenge and that was the end of it. But then Chapman comes in towards the end of the game and starts throwing again at our guys head. That doesn’t make it any better bro. You have the hardest throwing pitcher in the league throwing 100+mph fastballs at your head. If there is anyone that shouldn’t be throwing at people’s heads it’s Chapman. Like come on bro. Y’all got it on the first inning it should have stopped after that but no y’all can’t quit there.

@@javtimestwo 3 years ago huh? So the Yankees have had multiple seasons to get their revenge and they choose to do it now? You'd think they'd just get over it.
He wasn't throwing at them. He was pitching high and inside the same way the Rays did. Its very dangerous because a pitch can easily get away and hit a player in the head. Thats why Boone was furious when they kept doing it all willy nilly in the previous series. You're going to get someone hurt. But you can't just let another team do that without showing them a taste of their own medicine. So the ball got away from Chapman and now they're crying about it.
@@benjaminglodowski9244 It was 2 years ago Sept 2018. Jomboy has a breakdown of that incident which will show you how idiotic the Rays are. Same stupid manager and a lot of the same players as then. They threw at Romine's head for no reason after hitting some of our other players. Then the same player who threw at our guys head 2 years ago is now pitching high and inside all willy nilly coming close to hitting us. Pitching high and inside is very dangerous and the game has moved away from it because a pitch can easily get away and end someones career. The only clip shown here from 2 years ago is the Romine one. They pitched high and inside, Yankees pitched high and inside. The Rays thought it was ok for them to do but not anyone else.
Yes. What you’re missing is in that same game the Yankees got thrown at high and tight multiple times. Most notably DJ LeMahieu got thrown at a few times the inning prior. While people are making this out to be like revenge from 2 years ago it’s not. It’s revenge from the innings prior.

Honestly wish there was a better angle of the Kittredge/Romine AB, because it definitely looked like it was headed for Romine’s shoulder and he ducked out of the way. Like I said, if there’s a better angle I’d love to see it, but I don’t think you can even compare a 93mph ball at shoulder height, to a 101mph ball at head height. It should’ve been done after Tanaka hit Wendle, he’s the Rays’ best player. As soon as Chapman goes at the batter, the Yankees are opening the door for the Rays to retaliate.
Seems like Yankee fans are just mad that the Rays are just as injured as them and yet they’re better in almost every way. The growth of this Rays team has really been a treat for me and it’s really Exciting to see the Rays actually starting to get to the Yankees mentally.
@@aled9882 You really digging up 1 month old TH-cam comments to try and troll? Rays injuries were nowhere near the Yankees who lost their #2 and #3 SP. A key reliever. And their star players weren't able to get regular ABs during the regular season since they were all hurt. Losing in the ALDS and losing in the ALCS isn't much different. Rays don't stand a chance in the CS.
There's a difference in throwing at someone, and just backing someone off the plate. Since baseball was invented, pitchers have thrown inside to keep the batter uncomfortable and from leaning out over the plate. There's nothing wrong with that. On August 8th, the Rays threw two pitches inside, but not at the Yankees hitter. Wendle was hit by a pitch. The first game this series, Rays threw two inside to LeMahieu, gotta do something the dude is batting .400, so the Yankees hit Wendle again. If you can't handle being pitched inside, don't play. But what Chapman did is inexcusable. And also, the Rays are leading the season series 7-2, why are the Yankees chirping?
Because four of the best players in the sport are all on the IL. Fastest way to send more there is nonsense like this. Either way, you can tell who the Yankees fans are after reading the comments. If you watched any of Chapman's other outings you'd know that was not intentional. If the dude reaches 100 it's four feet off target every time this season. His fast ball over the plate is barely 95. You actually saw it in the previous at bat. I can promise you, unless he has been sandbagging all year just for this, he did not aim at that dudes head. If he did, it's the first accurate high heat he has thrown since he returned. Same thing going on with ottavino and Britton. If they through their best stuff sanchez is fighting to save a wild pitch. Can only imagine it's due to the short prep or something.
@@heythereguysitsMetro it's an interesting thing though because usually when Chapman misses it is high on a lefty and low to a righty because of his arm path, the ball will either fly high to arm side or get yanked low to glove side. This was high to glove side which infers intent based on his tendency and the physics of his delivery. That's not a hard and fast rule though, it ng is possible that it was unintentional but it seems unlikely.
It's funny because you pretend to know all the details but you really don't. Rays have been knocking down Yankees hitters all season long by throwing high and tight which is dangerous. There's a difference between pitching inside and throwing high and tight. DJ Lemahieu hit 2 HR's in the game and then in the 8th inning they threw over his head. You missed that detail and it wasn't really highlighted by Jomboy like it should have. So Chapman came out and did the same to them.
@@jimduggan8962 if you've ever watched baseball, you know brushing guys back is part of the game. And thanks for bringing up the two home runs. That is why the Rays do that. The game they didn't brush him back, he hit two home runs. Also, going into the game last night, LeMahieu was hitting .600 on pitches out over the plate and only .265 on pitches inside. So yes, teams are gonna throw inside.
When the rays pitched high it wasn't intentional, the Yankees get away with so much and was only issued a warning for a hit pitch, and multiple high and "in" pitches that were so outside of the box. That should've been handled totally differently after the first pitch to Wendel.
Chapman should have been ejected. Should probably miss a start too. What was Chapman's end game there, tho? What if he did hit him? Maybe knocked him out or broke a cheek or orbital bone. Then what? Is he happy? Did he accomplish his goal? I don't get it. Hit a guy in the thigh. Or if he really deserves payback plunk him in the ribs. But, throwing at the head doesn't solve anything. @What Not To Do At a Stoplight Bruh you're hilarious, even biased ass Jomboy said that wasn't intentional (because it fucking wasn't)
The Rays' pitcher fucked up and missed up and in, which is bad. Chapman intentionally aimed at three guys' upper bodies, and in one case a face. That's not even comparable.
What Not To Do At a Stoplight The Rays throw up and in quite a bit, but they don’t unleash 101 mph fastballs at dudes faces.... that’s ridiculous. You wanna throw up and in? Fine. Take a shot at the lead off man in the first? Fine. The Rays took it. But they cursory drew the line when Chapman tried to end a guys life.
he was pitching up and in the same way the Rays pitched our guys. When you pitch up and in theres a chance you lose some control and a ball goes right at a guys head. The Rays know that, the Yankees know that, everyone with any baseball IQ knows that. That's why Boone and the Yankees were pissed that they were doing it on them. Look at how close the Yankees were to being injured because of the Rays recklessness.
Also, its the same player on the same team you just don't forget that when he's doing some more stupid stuff again. The funny thing is 3 years ago the Yankees retaliated in a classy way with CC hitting their catcher and Blake Snell was whining about it because it was a blowout. But its ok to throw at our players head for no reason...they're pathetic.
The game Romine was targeted the Yankees C.C. Sabathia was pitching and he nailed the Rays catcher in his next at bat knowing he was going to get tossed. After he hit the Rays catcher Sabathia challenged the Rays dugout and singled out Cash.CC did this knowing it could cost him significant bonus money for innings pitched as it was his last start of the year. Major props to Sabathia.

The Rays have been knocking down our hitters all year long by throwing high and inside. Then after throwing over DJ's head in the 8th inning, Chapman came out and did the same to them.

They're pathetic.

ok but the Rays have been throwing at the Yankees all season.

SonicGlitchmaster1 might be old news but it’s the whole reason this is a thing now. It’s dumb though, I agree

Exactly
That's not a hard and fast rule though, it ng is possible that it was unintentional but it seems unlikely.

Every think of that Chapman hasn’t pitched in a while and is a little rusty. The ball got away from his glove prior

Rocco Costa I wouldn’t think Chapman would do that intentionally but I’d he did then that not cool at all
I love Jomboys content ive been watching for hours today and it’s currently 2:30 in the morning
Super dangerous.
he got a 3 game suspension
@@tomatoisnotafruit5670 Did he? Thanks, man.
For a closer on a good team, 3-games is usually at least one appearance, so that sounds about fair.
Even though he only pitches one inning, per outing, sometimes 1.1 or 1.2 in the postseason.
@@jayp.6166 The Rays threw over DJ Lemahieu's head in the 8th inning after he hit 2 HR in the game. Chapman's goal was to protect his teammates and send a clear message to the Rays to knock it off. They've been knocking down Yankees hitters all year long by throwing high and tight which is dangerous. Chapman was right to do that after what the Rays did.
@@jimduggan8962 I understand all that. I've played the game for over 20 years. I am all about sticking up for my team.
I just don't see the upside of hitting someone in the head with that hardest fastball in the world. Ya know?
Can you do a breakdown on the Reds losing 16-2?
clg632012 Rockies got dicked
Rockies vs Giants is better, he should do both though cause they were amazing games and a great way to promote draftkings
The BayWatch line had me rolling!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
Another example of a problem being basically worked out until Chapman comes into the game.
Who else watching the game tomorrow 😂 it’s gonna be fun
Ethan Boi im excited

Bregman isn't a real baseball player. He's a cheater and a disgrace to the sport. He and all the Astros should be banned for life. A thrown baseball is nothing compared to what he deserves.
"I'm not going to get into this." Couldn't come up with something better? Might as well say I'm not going to admit we're guilty.
I think that’s a bit too subjective, I’d say if a ball hits the head/helmet the pitcher gets a warning/ejected immediately
I think was pretty obviously being baited by the media, as that is their MO
You obviously don’t know Boone at all then if that’s what you think.

There should be a rule if a pitch is thrown at a batters head hit or miss should automatically go to first base. No reason to keep the batter in the box at that point.
Breakdown the cubs vs pirates game today, extra innings and very exciting game, ended 8-7 cubs
This is so unbiased the TH-camr is a Yankees fan
These guys. Throwing at someone’s head? My God in Heaven. Ridiculous.
101 at the head is basically assault. At least this time he attacked someone wearing a helmet instead of his wife
That's like saying a boxer punching someone is assault. Chapman throws baseballs 101 mph for a living. Batters assume the risk of getting hit by a pitch as part of their occupation
@@subg8858 Yeah but that's the object of boxing. The object of baseball isn't to throw 101 at someone's head on purpose.
I love how they said the I have pitchers that throw 98 mph and then the Chapman picture at the bottom epic
Their best baywatch impression lmaoooooooo
BOTH sides were flat out wrong but of course you're only gonna criticize the Rays **eyeroll** put your fanboydom aside every once in a while, dude.
The Rays threw over DJ's head in the 8th inning after he had 2 HR's in the game. They've been knocking down Yankees hitters all year by throwing high and tight which is dangerous. If you know anything about baseball the Yankees were justified and Chapman did the right thing to protect his teammates.
You need to know what you're talking about before you criticize. One advantage of being a fan of a team is you actually have more context about that team's plight. The Yankees have been getting drilled and buzzed by the Rays with ZERO retaliation the past two seasons. (Rays aren't the only team the Yankees have failed to retaliate against, I wish they kept a stat that counts it, it's nuts; the Yankees tend to turn a stoic cheek despite getting thrown at). This game was the first time the Yankees have retaliated after two seasons. One is wronger than the other, ye of no context and no nuance in their thinking.
@@joeinreallife6293 OML they were thrown at three years ago and kept whining about it. Then they get hit ONCE and feel the need to stir the pot. It should've ended after Tanaka hit the Rays batter (I forgot his name). But no, you got Jim Duggan spreading false statements to make the Rays look bad. DJ never got hit and he batted in the 7th, not the 8th. And it doesn't give you the right to throw a 101MPH fastball at a person's *head* . That's just immature.
Jomboy is really putting baseball back in the map
I have no problem with what Tanaka did. He was just following orders and plunked Wendle in a safe way. In fact I think it hit Wendle in the elbow guard. However, Chapman was throwing 100 at somebody's head and then had the nerve to act all indignant at the end of the game.
