Going from Claudette _purging_ Kingsmouth Island with no issue to fighting tooth and nail just to not starve or freeze in the arctic is the kind of mood whiplash I'm here for.
For efficient bait you can cut meat into jerky, lasts long and you get quite some out of one piece of meat. It also makes sense to bait fish with smal pieces and not whole ass cutlet. I love the series i usually play in tropical regions so it's nice change there are also types of fish traps made out of 8 stakes around one space of water, you save reeds by using sticks although efficiency can differ
Congrats on finding a place to root! Don't forget, if you make an adze, you can strip the bark off of the logs that you cut down, to make bark baskets for ground storage. You can still use the stripped wood for the fire, too!
>APOCALYPTIC RIFT ACTIVITY EXCUSE ME?! The highest I've seen in my world, the one where I traveled SIXTY-FIVE THOUSAND BLOCKS before settling down (did an Arctic spawn, nomaded my way to the temperate zones), the highest I've seen was "High", with most being "Calm" to "Medium" and I've found that "Medium" is usually followed by "Calm" after a single night of hiding from thrown rocks. "Apocalyptic"? Yeah, no, I'd be NOPE-ing out of there too.
Rift activity is global, not based on any one area. Drifters also only spawn at night so its really not too scary. The surface drifters are a complete joke and it's only the deep drifters and such that can mangle an unarmored players.
The apocalyptic rift activity is actually a global weather effect, but as the gear was turning counter-clockwise, you made the right decision with leaving.
13:55 as far as I remember the rift activity is not bound to place, it bounces up and down no matter where you are, so abandoning a beautiful lake wasn't the best decision
So glad to see that this is a series :D the Project Zomboid challenges have been amazing but it’s good to see some other survival games getting some love!
Need stakes for fishing lines, and how deep doesn't really matter too much. Rift activity isn't tied to if area is unstable btw. Jerky the bushmeat to use for baits , you can get clay from panning sand and gravel , takes a long time but it can be done.
Sees temperature in the game and PrivateLime feeling concerned. Laughs in Canadian. That is polar spring or fall, in the winter you would easily reach -25 C to -40 C and maybe -50 C on a bad day... not counting wind chill there. Summer you might get as high as 15 C, might. Now is -15 C that cold? Yes, dangerously so. If you aren't clothed enough you will die from hypothermia eventually. But with a good wool shirt, pants, long johns and a coat, it is fairly warm.
I am very curious with this series being a freezing cold version how an opposite version would go or if it'd be possible to do something like that, maybe in a future video... love the content keep it up chief!
"The bombs fell thousands of moons ago. The demons of the Old Ones roam the Earth in search of mortal flesh. The problem is that they don't know that I am searching for the perfect lake. And that I am going to do everything for it. "
I love this new game I found. It’s basically Minecraft but for adults. This game is literally what I’ve been looking for ever since I stopped playing Minecraft in 2018.
I dont understand half as much as I would like to understand while you speak. I've never player this game so that explains it. Though I like the way you speak so i'm still listening to you while playing my own game!
You can build a greenhouse and farm for a couple of months. You can use glacier ice instead of glass for greenhouse, one of the few advantages of arctic. Also, using spear as a melee weapon is very cringe, it will do much more damage when thrown. I belive one spear throw will kill a rabbit, and two will kill a fox. Bears will require around 15. My strat for surviving arctic was hunting bears with an inventory full of spears.
It may be a bit better for you to take a knife to the bushmeat to make jerky, it more or less just extends the uses of baitable foods you can use now that you have a large trot line going on
Lurking here for a while, this looks like an amazing game, I still wonder if you can start a farm by heating up an isolated place, or do the plants need sunlight to grow? Either way, good luck on your nomadic adventure Lime!
You can build greenhouses which give tilled soil a +5°C temperature bonus so you can extend the growing period by a bit, normally. Of course, you'd need the weather to at least touch -5°C at some point of the year to make use of it. (default settings) As you go below sea level, the temperature rises by 1°C per layer (up to +5°C) but so does the light level crops require to grow by 1 (the cap in growth normally is 19, the maximum light level is 22, crops get a growth penalty of 10% for every light level below optimal and stop entirely at light level 9, meaning you can go down 13 blocks before growing crops becomes completely impossible). You can probably still grow something with artificial lighting and glacier ice works as glass, but if you're experiencing -30°C/F in the spring that's doubtful to say the least. And no, increasing the room's temperature with torches and campfires doesn't affect the crops sadly. A more realistic temperature and climate control model may be coming in the future, but this is what we're dealing with now. Vintage Story is highly customizable in its world settings so you can enable underground farming and remove the light level penalty, but is that really arctic survival? I'd argue that's more dwarf survival. I had yet to see someone doing the arctic challenge like a true Eskimo by using mods over just enabling underground farming, so this series is a fresh one.
Any plans for the temporal storm that is to come Lime? And there were a few larger ruins at a few points it looked like so that could be good to explore. Also congrats on your first Drifter encounter this run. :P
Use gravel gravity to make a pillar on a side of the pack of dirt and bones you used to place the stick and put a snow block under with it? To get them back?
Hey berry picker, are you ever going to upload all of those sessions you've played this game on Otz' multiplayer RP server, with such stars as RimmyDownUnder, Warpuggs, Kavlo, and Borgus the House-Pig?
Couldn’t you have used a bunch of the gravel and stacked it in the lake, for the fishing line, to save the boney soil? Also I hope these eps start to blow up. Would like for Private Lime to be able to play other games and not be stuck in Project Zomboid. As much as I like PZ, and PL’s videos of it at that, I wouldn’t want to get stuck in one game forever.
you know Igloos don't usually have fires inside of them if they did they'd have chimneys on the top without a chimney you'll suffocate yourself with that fire
I will say, it is possible to kill those bears, but you'll need about 8 or more spears and ideally a slope or non frozen lake, since animals are slower than you in water and do not have as good parkour skills as the player. They also take fall damage, but they're so damn tanky it won't do anything.
Hey lime! I’m enjoying your vintage story videos…even though it looks like modded Minecraft lol. Can you play The Long Dark sometime? That would be awesome. Anyway stay safe!
just an idea. can you bait bears over an cliff to kill and harvest them? i could imagine that this will be a good way to get rid of them and get some meat aswell.
Just Incase it might be a smart idea to building a wooden path to your fish traps incase the damn ice melts cause ayy it looks like that area has allot of melting going on and it would be a shame if the ice melts and then you can't get to your traps😬
Nah you can use almost anything for trotline posts, even a block of dirt. It wasn't working because if it's wider than a trotline post, you need to clear what's on the ground around the post. That fence would have worked but the snow on the ground around it needed to be cleared.
I'll be honest here I didn't know this game has sanity mechanic; being in arctic while atmosphere is being chaotic... is double whammy. Hope you get a least backpack from one of ruins or abandon villages.
Episode 1: the Arctic is cold, but fair
Five minutes into Episode 3: y'know, I'm starting to like the Arctic
Five minutes later: I hate it here.
End of episode:
´´It is a minimal victory... but a victory nonetheless´´.
Going from Claudette _purging_ Kingsmouth Island with no issue to fighting tooth and nail just to not starve or freeze in the arctic is the kind of mood whiplash I'm here for.

Lime: *Finds sorta paradise in the Arctic*
Location: *Is absolutely haunted by powers beyond human imagination and comprehension*
Congrats on finding a place to root! Don't forget, if you make an adze, you can strip the bark off of the logs that you cut down, to make bark baskets for ground storage. You can still use the stripped wood for the fire, too!
This is a modded thing, Pr1vateLime is using mods but I don't know if the mod adds the adze is in here.
Thank you for commenting that! Doing a current run with his mods and I have no luck finding reeds!
>APOCALYPTIC RIFT ACTIVITY
EXCUSE ME?!
Well, Rift activity changes overtime so in same place you can have no rifts and sometimes even apocaliptic ^^
Rift activity is global, not based on any one area. Drifters also only spawn at night so its really not too scary. The surface drifters are a complete joke and it's only the deep drifters and such that can mangle an unarmored players.
I got super unlucky on my first play of VS. I got Apocalyptic on day 1. Not fun. Got completely ganked.
That campfire storage system is freaking ingenious
This playthrough is making me want to play the game again
I was so worried when lime was walking on the clear ice thinking it was gonna crack and send him falling
Picked up this game because of your videos. It is so challenging, but it's the survival game I always wanted yet didn't know it existed until now.
After a bad night's sleep, your video is sweet, sweet honey to my eyes. Thanks as always for videos, lime.
yeah i'll watch it just before sleeping, it's only good vibes
you don't eat honey with your eyeballs.
The apocalyptic rift activity is actually a global weather effect, but as the gear was turning counter-clockwise, you made the right decision with leaving.
Comment for the blessing of the algorithm
This series is oddly fascinating, I really hope it continues. I love seeing how in-depth VS is.
Glad to see you doing a playthrough of this! I've even started my own solo world trying to survive in the frozen wasteland~
13:55 as far as I remember the rift activity is not bound to place, it bounces up and down no matter where you are, so abandoning a beautiful lake wasn't the best decision

Jerky the bushmeat to use for baits , you can get clay from panning sand and gravel , takes a long time but it can be done.
10:20 i think it was the boney soil that allowed you to use it
and you might be able to use snow
Actually somewhat survivable, warm enough for the snow to melt!
Now to hope a bear doesn't decide to move in next door :D
Your recent videos in this game convinced me to buy it! Awesome vids :)

watched your one chunk playthrough before, and have been loving this series too. it pushed me to buy the game and i've been having a blast with it :)
Lime playing Vintage Story is *chef’s kiss* 🤌
Damb im glad this episode is out that soon! I was waiting for it in the next 3 to 4 days and when i saw it happiness fill me
I am very curious with this series being a freezing cold version how an opposite version would go or if it'd be possible to do something like that, maybe in a future video...

I gotta say, I love the music you chose when editing these videos.
It's the in-game music
Less go another episode I'm lovin it
Loving the series. Reminds me of some survival mods in Minecraft. Ty for the vids Lime
Fun fact, this game actually was a modpack in Minecraft to begin with.
I dont understand half as much as I would like to understand while you speak. I've never player this game so that explains it. Though I like the way you speak so i'm still listening to you while playing my own game!

or you can just dig a hole 4 blocks deep get a bear to chase u drop in the hole and poke it from beneath :P simple but reliable
@@atroxie you could, but thats too cheesy for me.
@@Karina-winsmore While it is true it is a cheesy method it is also a smart method especially when 1 hit from a bear is bye bye lol
Yet another great video Lime! Keep it up.
After watching this series I am trying to get 3 of my friends interested in vintage story so I can spring a world like this on them lol
Man I was waiting for this episode!
same here! glad to watch it !
It may be a bit better for you to take a knife to the bushmeat to make jerky, it more or less just extends the uses of baitable foods you can use now that you have a large trot line going on
Tbh this series is fantastic
you earned a new subscriber, hoping to see more of this!
@Pr1vateLime You can throw spears by holding right click, its useful to rabbits etc :p
Home sweet home, Grug. Home sweet home.
Waiting for the next episode! This series is awesome!
Best series so far
You could have taken the cobblestone blocks from the ruins to set up your fishery. Using bony soil feels like a waste lol
this is such an awesome series
"I say we go Eastward."
Wagooooooooooooons East.
Lurking here for a while, this looks like an amazing game, I still wonder if you can start a farm by heating up an isolated place, or do the plants need sunlight to grow? Either way, good luck on your nomadic adventure Lime!
There's a setting for it during world creation, but I believe by default plants cannot be grown too far under ground and need sunlight.
you can make greenhouses, you just need the roof of a room to have enough percent of it be glass
You can build greenhouses which give tilled soil a +5°C temperature bonus so you can extend the growing period by a bit, normally. Rifts and taigas and bears, oh my!
YOU CAN GET CLAY! if you pan in any of the gravel/sand it can drop clay
Any plans for the temporal storm that is to come Lime? And there were a few larger ruins at a few points it looked like so that could be good to explore.
Also congrats on your first Drifter encounter this run. :P
Rift activity changes like weather.
And with a slow drip of temporal stability lose, you could make short trips out to recover every day or two.
unlike weather though, it isn't area specific at all.
so looking forward to your advancements !
TerraFirmaCraft is my favourite Minecraft. I was so sad they stopped making it. Im buying this game. Thanks
This is fun to watch!
You not grug you ützi the ice man
Nice spot you found there, curious to see what the future holds for Grug.
Walking so close to the bears 😱
Use gravel gravity to make a pillar on a side of the pack of dirt and bones you used to place the stick and put a snow block under with it? To get them back?
Minecraft’s newest update is lookin wild
loving the videos bud

Why are we cursed with loving hard games?!?! You are to blame for this one heheh

Hmmm, Artic sounds similar to the Arctic...
Oh, he obviously just invented a new continent. Duh.
i just noticed that aa
@dfprod. yooo it got changed
After the ice age challenged do a desert world challenge.
there is sadly no overheating system in the game
Yeah, where I live is driving my sanity down too, only in real life......... :P
you can use logs as solid blocks instead of bony soil
you know Igloos don't usually have fires inside of them
if they did they'd have chimneys on the top
without a chimney you'll suffocate yourself with that fire
thankfully that's not an issue in game.

You can cut down meat in to jerky to get more baits

Grugg is adapting to multi plane life really well... yah know, not everyone adapts to the z axis so well
Uhm actchually project zomboid already has a z axis
Hey plays this the best no lie
Vintage story polar start or aka crushing your bawls with a rail road spike simulator.
I love this game
This is pretty cool
Could you make a glass greenhouse?
Yay grug is back

just an idea. can you bait bears over an cliff to kill and harvest them? i could imagine that this will be a good way to get rid of them and get some meat aswell.
Wouldnt it be easier to just throw the spear at the hare?
Awesome shit
Cant you make a greenhouse and plant seeds in it? I know there's different plants that can be grown in more negative temperatures than others.
I was a fisherman once
Do you play in Rimmy Downunder’s RP server?
Wow this was interesting I hope you will find some home ^-^
