  • This is how to make that annoying clicking noise go away when you turn your AC on to anything other than the defrost. The fix does not take that much time. MAKE SURE when you go to the parts store for a new one, that they order the one with the tan wheel. Appreciate ya'll watching and leave some feedback down below for the future viewers that see this.

    I don't know how anyone could do this job just by removing the glove box. Save yourself a LOT of angst and remove the passenger airbag for better access. There's at least one video on TH-cam that shows how to remove the airbag, and it's really simple. Even after doing this, the upper actuator is a fairly difficult job. One problem is being sure the new actuator stays in the slotted vent arm while moving the module into final position. It took me several attempts to do that while also fitting the X-shaped opening of the module onto the molded mounting protrusion. Also, I wasn't able to start the upper screw during reassembly. A family member (youngster) with skinny arms and hands had to do it, working through the airbag cavity.
    For reference, the driver side actuator behind the instrument cluster is the Main Panel-Floor actuator. The upper module on the passenger side (the bad one in this video) is the Main Defrost actuator. The lower module on the passenger side is the Temperature Blend actuator, and the horizontal module all the way on the right is the Air Inlet actuator.
    In my 2008 V6 base, the part number stamped on the original 2007-dated Defrost actuator was 6R33-19E616-BA. The new MotorCraft part is 6R3Z19E616-B. The package also says YH-1870. This is the same module that's used on the driver side for Panel-Floor. I bought mine today from a Ford dealer because of all the bad reviews on aftermarket units. Cost was about $40. It's installed now, and the clicking is gone. I opened up the old module, and two teeth were broken off one of the gears.
    One last thing, you can identify which module is clicking by placing your hand on it while someone else operates the ignition key and controls (to make it click). You don't need to remove the electrical plug as suggested in several videos.
    Hope this helps!

    Is this the same for the feet vent and window defroster. Mine just started making the clicking sound. Some days it doesn't others it does. It's just two bolts you said after removing the glove box and unplugging it?
    What does the other actuator do? It sounds as though the clicking is From the floor vent itself. But I'm guessing that's just the sound of the flap trying to close from the actuator.
    Do you have a part number so I don't pay the rip off prices of the Ford dealership?

    Hey guys a quick update from 2023 😂 after you pull out the actuators DONT force the “lever” you can actually open up the actuator with no tools by lifting 6 clips. Most likely one of the gears broke and the pieces jammed it. Could be an easy fix or maybe even 3D print the piece lol. Also there’s a lever where the actuator was which opens and closes the vent to your defrosters, I left it half open so I at least have a defroster but also means my defroster will be on when I turn on the ac

      Julian Salinas so when the clicking first started in my car, the air still came out of everywhere, but it eventually got worse to where it would only come out defrost.

    • @Julian-mm7mi
      @Julian-mm7mi 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brock Leonard okay, currently my air comes out everywhere and my defrost, which causes my window to fog up bad, i bear clicking behind my dash and it’s the actuater back there, so i disconnected it and it doesn’t click anymore. but perhaps the defrost problem is that actuator you replaced maybe?

    • @BrockLeonard
      @BrockLeonard  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Julian Salinas It’d have to be because it seems like your vents are completely open and the switch can’t turn it from one to the other.

      There's actually an actuator on top of the dashboard.

    • @levivandenberg9504
      @levivandenberg9504 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are 4 different actuators. It's the same problem, different actuator. Check the 3 behind glove box first. Unplug one at a time turning key on to where it would click until you find which one it is.

  • @xotwod9894
    @xotwod9894 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey man can anyone help? I replaced my actuator, (it was actually the first one making the noise not the second one) and once I turn on the air and I try to put it on heat it won’t work, it only gives out cold air and even when I put it all the way on heat nothing comes out, any help?

    Mine is not making any noise but it barely blows through the defroster vents on top of the dash. But the rest of the vents everything works good. Instead the air that has to go to the defroster vent comes out from the floor vents. HEEEEELP

      Taking it off was not that bad, but getting it back together is a serious pain in the ass. Stand on your head, try to get some light in there and contort your hands to reach those two screws. My advice is to get the easy screw started first and then make sure the lever is in the right spot. Tighten that first screw to hold it on the lever and then get the second screw installed. A 1/4 inch rachet with a swivel and extension worked best for me to tighten it.

    Unfortunately, this is a temporary fix. The actuators will keep breaking. I replaced two of them and this morning I heard that dreaded noise again. It is a design flaw. Ford could not or would not figure it out.

    • @BrockLeonard
      @BrockLeonard  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Man, that sucks

    • @levivandenberg9504
      @levivandenberg9504 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That means the door that the actuator turns is likely stuck. The actuators are designed to break when the doors aren't working properly so you don't have to replace a large portion of your HVAC system.

    • @jamesruggiero4672
      @jamesruggiero4672 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to recalibrate your actuator by pulling a fuse first before turning car on. Google it
