I have a 2001 Ford Mustang GT 4.6L and I'm having the same issue after finding out the compressor works. After reading all the comments it seems this is an issue with some ford vehicles

Excellent help! 2002 Mustang compressor stopped engaging. Started coming on intermittently for a week, then quit.
Located ccrm, followed his instructions, bought new relat on Amazon, had a local electrician solder for me for $30. Reinstalled and it worked!

Thanks so much! Fixed my '98 Mustang air after almost 3 months of troubleshooting. Only problem was I had to drive 100 miles to the nearest Radio Shack because I couldn't wait for it to get shipped here! The relay switch was only five bucks. And it really was an easy fix in the end, even for a girl!!

This video was a godsend. My local mechanics diagnosed my car and turned up the exact same problem. They gave me the car back without fixing it because they couldn't find the relay or circuit board. Thanks for giving the part number, that was a huge help. Wish I could have seen you get access to the computer through the wheel well.
Jonathan Atkins glad it helped. just remove the passenger side wheel and then remove the black "dust shield" that goes under the fender should be a couple of philips screws and maybe some 7mm also. not too hard to do.

Officially a life saver mine wasnt as burnt as yours but i had 1 pin with bad connection. Did this AC works perfect now.

Since this houses multiple relays it can be the source of other problems as well. In my case the radiator fans are not shutting off on my '96 Taurus after I turn off the engine. I can tap on this box after I turn off the key and the fans will shut off. This tells me the relay is sticking. I'll use your example here and replace the fan relay(s).

I just saw this and I am hoping its what is wrong with mine.i have an 02 mustang gt and after my alternator went out and I replaced it then my air suddenly stopped working.i had someone look at it and said it waa gonna cost me 100 bucks for the new part but that if I wanted to save to order the relay from radio shack.keepin my fimgers crossed this fixes my problem.thanks for the video.
So for anyone here in 2022 having an issue where they turn their A/C on and it won't come on right away or it'll randomly come on, this is the fix. For me for whatever reason mine would only come on when I'd be driving (which coincidentally is when it would work because of the road vibration/bumps that would make this relay make contact) and it would randomly stop just as it would come on. SO I actually took mine apart just like this video to find the solder point not making contact just like in this video, so I soldered it back on and my A/C turned on EVERY single time. So it was clearly the issue. Just for anyone who want's to know I have a 2002 Mustang GT 4.6L V8.

Thanks for this video you solved my problem tested my A/C compressor bypassing it and it works but when it is not bypassed it won't turn on same issue you had now all I haft to do is change my relay I have a 2001 Ford Mustang GT 4.6L V8

im thinking this is what i need to do to clear a P0411 code...but instead of switching the AC relay...the PCM relay below it....my secondary pump is not getting enough voltage due to an open circuit.

Unfortunately I already replaced mine lol. Was just looking to see if there is another relay. I think I got a leak. Stop leak so far has been a waste of money.
Stop leak shit never actually works does it? How do they sell such garbage?
IMO stop leaks make more harm then good.
@@FalconsGarage Yea. Thats my experience too. None the less didn't stop me from trying. The alternative is a big undertaking. In a 1997 Cobra to replace all the seals of the AC system would be a real pain in the ass and could give rise to other issues later if I don't get it all back together right. A LOT of stuff has to be taken apart to get to it all. Or very expensive to have some one else do it.

My 2002 3.8 mustang has been blowing hot air for a year now (when cold air is setting) yesterday I put 2 recharge with seal. It blew cold for only one day then back to hot air, could this fix the problem?
no.. sounds like you have a Freon leak somewhere

You can order it online.i had the same problem where I live and there were no radio shacks anywhere near me so I went online and ordered it and to my surprise it was on sale and only cost me 2.00 plus 3.00 shipping and it arrived in exactly 4 days.

Great video! But I would like to know if this would help me, my compressor does turn on but it stops like for a minute and then runs for 15 seconds and it goes like that. You think I should replace the compressor or you think is the relay? Oh but it blows hot air all the time as well
sounds like to have either too much freon or not enough
Orfice line high pressure just replaced mine
Compressor are supposed to stop though every minute or so, scotty (rev up your engine) suggested a allways on wired switch directly to the compressor, DONT DO IT! It will burn up something else the compressor isnt supposed to run all the time.
Through this procedure finding the a/c relay, would you use the same method to diagnose and or fix a fuel pump relay that wont allow the car to start??
+David Patterson it depends. check the connections to the fuel pump. If your getting power back there and the fuel pump is still not turning on then its probably a bad fuel pump. but there is a little more testing to do
hey falcon that box is it also called the gen box I have a 2001 ford gt mustang n ford no longer makes these I have similar problems with a/c but another concern I'm having is the car drags to start. like I have to pump the gas pedal to start the car. mechanic said that is where my problem is l

I do believe the fuel pump relay is in the same spot, but from my experience it will either work or it wont. you probably do have a fuel issue but its probably the fuel pump it self.
Here in 2024 have a question about my ac relay i installed a new relay and my ac worked perfectly then it blown again what would be the cause of this? Do i need to do more work on the module or buy a new module to stop the ac from blowing it worked for about a week and it is troublesome to pull out the module get it reinstalled just for it to blow?
My 2004 Mustang A/C will stop blowing air even though I can still hear the fan. Then after a few seconds it will start blowing again. I've had the fan looked at and the compressor changed twice. Lot of money. It was doing this only when the tempertures were very high but now it does it in the low 80's. Does this sound familiar to you? Any suggestions? Are you in La?
if you head the fan going but not allot of "air" coming out of the vents .... sounds like the problem is from inide the cabin .. like the blower motor or maybe cabin filter

the fan is behind the radiator - the blower is in the cabin- you have to know the difference

BTW, I just had Firestone do an A/C system check on it today, and they told me it was the "MK AC CONTROL MODULE". Is that the same thing as the CCRM?

I'm having the same problem. so compressor does not kick in, hi/lo pressure switches are fine. I don't seem to be getting 12v to the compressor clutch unless I directly give it the 12v from the battery. could this be an issue with the ccrm as well? thanks great video.
+Jose Presas if when you give it positive charge directly from the battery it turned on then most likely the issue IS this relay.

no. I think you have a different issue, maybe your throttle body is dirty or your iddle control system is dirty or maybe even your TPS
My ac compressor will get extremely hot and start smoking and burning my belt it's literally a brand new ac what can cause that issue the previous owner had it directly so I would have to flip a switch to make my ac work

If my A/C compressor relay is bad, how would I know?
When driving, if I turn on my A/C, after a few seconds I hear a loud "clunk" noise. The air coming through the vents when its set to A/C is about the same temperature (maybe a little bit colder, but not much) than when its set to fan.
It was suggested to me that this might be the relay, and that the clunk might be the compressor clutch falling back out after the compressor loses power.
Greg Fleishman when the relay fails it usually dosent disengage it just wont engage at all. So that might not be the issue. Do you have enough Freon on your lines? have you checked under the hood to see what exactly the clunk noise is?

+Jose Mendez I used a soldering pencil. That way you have the precision to just solder off the relay itself and not burn the board.
I didn’t exactly do all that, I went to my local wrench apart and got one off of a GT and mine is also a GT. But once I replaced it, the car started and worked fine for a day and now the battery is completely drained. I will charge the battery and it’ll be drained again after an hour, any idea on why this is happening?

+ferikhan1 I've done this procedure in 3 customers cars and 2 family members cars most of them about 1-2 years ago and not a single one has come back for the same issue. Might be an issue with the compressor as well maybe the compressor is going bad already and causing the relay itself to overheat. Just an idea

so this relay is located in exact same place on all 94 to 04 GT'S??? i have a 1994 GT and clutch wont kick on...i have 5.0 v8 and my compressor is on opposite side under my power steering.... Maybe it a bad pressure switch? high/low... not sure,but i know i can turn my compressor easy with my hand and seems smooth so i am narrowing down the problem....thanks
yes the relay is on the same spot...
try hot wiring the compressor .. if it turns on and the car cools then you know the compressor is good and move on from there!

I dont have any but its not too hard.
There is usually 2 wires on the connector of the compressor one negative/ground and one hot/positive .. if you just give a 12v source to the positive cable of the compressor it should kick on ... with the car on of course ...
on compressors with one wire on the connector those are usually hot/positive because it grabs the ground from somewhere else ... and in that case just add power to that wire ..
this is just to make sure your compressor/clutch works ... DONT live it hot wired ...

+jakeromero86 you have to do alittle more testing. does it have Freon? if you put the power directly to the compressor will it kick on?

+Mr Falcon iam going to test all this today but yes it has freon in it I got that tested im gonna do the paper clip trick for the compressor today and now my signal lights stopped working what could it be ? I bought the flasher cube last nite and put it in but it still doesn't work and the flasher light bulbs still work

Mine fans wouldnt cut on replaced ccrm now they won't shut off new ect sensor as well the ac doesn't blow cold but stays on

+Ricky Ogles if it overheats when the AC is on its provably a fan issue. not kicking in the 2nd speed when the AC is on.
I did exactly the same on may 04 but the clutch still not shooting..what else could it be?
Juan Carlos Garcia did you test the compressor to make sure the clutch was good before replacing the relay? If so your high pressure switch could also be at fault

I was rechargimg my ac i just got it 2000 mustang gt 2v with only 80k miles and i went to recharge it and not even 5 sec into recharging it something blew up and smelled burned amd white smoke was coming out of the engine bay and my ac clutch doesnt spin as well does anyone know what happened ?
you need to find the source of the smoke first
My compressor comes on when wired directly but when freon is added it shoots out of like a release valve on the back of the compressor. What could this be?

I turned on the compressor directly. It's only a 2 wire connector. Positive and negative. If it your able to turn it on by connecting it directly to a 12v source then compressor is good. Then just backtrack were your losing the power. But most likely it will be that relay. Check all ac fuses as well
i jumped the connector and the compressor clutch engaged but only for a max of 3 seconds then it would shut off and not come back on, until i would take out the paperclip and insert it again to jump it again and it would come back on for about 3 seconds and then disengage
wait.. how did you jump it again? how did you use a paperclip? also when a clutch ingages and disengages could be a sign of low freon or overcharged freon, did you check the freon at the beginning? i would love to know what have you done to the car as far as cheking the AC system
I jumped it from the connector on the left that runs near the firewall, clutch will engage and then kick off. the freon was just charged by a shop prior to testing.
If your jumping it from the correct spot then the clutch should engage and not let off with freon or no freon because your jumping the wires. that tells me you have another problem somewhere else maybe the clutch itself or something else

ac and heater have separate systems .. maybe you have an actuator issue
