Like these types of videos the most Jonathan. Beautiful scenery with a gorgeous trout stream. Well done on the footage and edit. Thanks for posting and keep these types of videos coming.
Thank you for your video In the 1960’s as teen I remember fishing beaver dams for native brook trout in New England. They were beautiful fish. I always kept a few and they had beautiful pink meat and were absolutely delicious. Brook trout are one of the most beautiful salmonids in the world.
My brother showed me this channel and I'm really glad he did, my brother and I fly fish and it's always really satisfying to see other people enjoying this kinda thing.
I live in eastern Australia and really enjoy your video presentations. I thought that a 'brookie' was just an undersized brown trout until your last video when you caught that beautiful specimen, great colours. Keep it up, my wife who does not fish loves your voice..... Cheers, John...
Yep a brookie is a brook trout! We just call them brookies for whatever reason. They’re actually not even a trout 😂 they’re a char. But thanks for watching and glad you enjoy!
Awesome video as always!! And still you managed to get it even better than the last one like that!!! I really like your style of filming and these "raw" fishing experiences! They show beginners anglers that fly fishing and fishing in general is not about a game of number or size but about being out, slowing down and enjoying the moment! And whatever fish we catch! I love your content! I saw all your videos from the beginning! Just keep it rolling man!
This style video is really the best. Like I’m fishing with my buddy just talking. I like to hear what’s working or not working what you’re thinking when you approach holes and falls etc. Learning to read water, how to use natural foliage to stealthily hit a hole, that stuff makes more sense when you see it in action.
That double would have been EPIC! Either way, fantastic video like usual. Thanks for sharing such awesome content my man. I live vicariously thru these until my trips come up in the Spring.
I really enjoy your videos! Thanks! I picked up fly fishing a couple years ago and I'm still learning. I try to watch instructional videos, but honestly they are really boring. I wanted to see if you would be willing to share tips and tricks in your videos as you are fishing? Such as why you are casting where you are, what type of lure you are using, how to read the water, and any other helpful advice for us newbies.
Nice job, I thought a brookie I caught years ago was the best ever. Your fist one with those amazing colors not to mention the white ends on the fins huge.
Would love it if you would put what your fly setup is in the bottom corner and if we happen to miss you changing your setup it would be easy for us to follow. Love the vids. Always enjoy relaxing to a freshly dropped vid. Keep it up from TN
I still remember as a kid (45 years ago) listening to old timers then tell stories of pre logging every hole holding 15 inch brookies. I’ve spent close to a full year of my 53 years walking that water.
I 100% believe it. I’d bet there are still a few in there. Or at least some fish pushing that size. I wonder if the rainbow competition hasn’t lessened the amount of big brookies too
Oh no doubt... 'bows grow too fast the number of Brookies that survive to reach that size would naturally be affected. Ive never been a fan of Rainbows or Browns getting introduced to the native Brook-holding waters in Appalachia. I dunno what its like on the WV side but in TN you have to reeeeally get up in that high elevation/skinny water to get to the Brookies. Given youre walking 9 mile round trips I have a feeling you understand what thats like lol.
@@Sim_Sams You don't exactly have to get to super high elevation, you just have to find areas where rainbows don't exist. The rainbows are single handledly the biggest threat to brook trout and why they aren't prevalent anymore. If you go to any stream in the Tennessee mountains that doesn't have browns or rainbows, you can pretty much guarantee there will be brook trout.
Brother, the type of fish you caught is very nice. It is a fish for healing purposes. I have caught many of those fish too. Good luck with your efforts.
I truly enjoyed this video. Music or not, this was truly good. I’m excited because me and my sister are going to be traveling a few hours to the mountains of NC to do some trout fishing in late spring, early summer. I’ll be happy to catch one no matter the type or size.
Great video. That’s such a beautiful place and gorgeous water that it would be a refreshing of the soul even if you don’t catch fish. Sanity reclamation spot.
That first native was AMAZING! Just beautiful. I've noticed when a trout isn't actually grabbed, and is just held lightly in the palm of your hand, it will usually keep pretty still for you. That's been my experience over the years. Not suggesting that YOU grab them. lol
Brother, the type of fish you caught is very nice. It is a fish for healing purposes. I have caught many of those fish too. Good luck with your efforts.🎂🙋♂️
That first brookie may have been the prettiest one I've seen you land and no dink neither. Looked straight from some painter of a nature scenes book. There was that smaller brookie toward the end that was beautiful too. Setting up for good compositions in the video while still getting to fish can be hard work, but very rewarding at the the end of a day when editing. Noted some really nice composition.
If you don’t mind me asking, I’m trying to get into fly fishing and I’m going to save for the reel you got on, what pound leader are you using and is this reel able to cast more than just euro nymphs with ease? Thanks and please post more of these videos.
It was like I went cyber fishing with you, bro! Thanks for lettin us tag along. Stunning Brook Trout in several instances! Beautiful Bows. May I ask what type of set up you are fishing in that video? Your fly line looked rather inconspicuous and I just wondered what your rig set up is. Thanks again !

Love the natural sounds rather than the generic tunes you hear on lots of channels! Another fun video to watch, lovely fish. I also like that we wear the same waders!!! (the DRYFT SEEKRs right?)
Nice Brookie! Headed to WV to visit family in May. Bringing the fly rod. Any chance you could share the name of this creek or recommend some creeks. We will be in Charles Town / Harpers Ferry area. Thanks for great videos.
Thank you so much for your constant content! Really enjoy your videos from over here in Bavaria, Germany. Wish we had Brookies like that. What kind of setup are you using? Is that an Adam’s Rod?
Yep it’s an Adams! I usually just euro nymph, in this video I was using one of cortland’s pre made leaders just to try it out. I didn’t do anything special by any means. Thanks for watching!
I personally prefer this type of video along with the extra cinematography. Those were some beautifully colored fish. 👍
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the video
My God, that first brookie is one of the most beautiful fish I have ever seen. Brookies forever!
I know! Such an incredible fish. thanks for watching
Holy lord, that first brookie is one of the most gorgeous fish I have ever laid my eyes on. Brookies forever!!!
They don’t get much better than that!! Thanks for watching
Footsteps in the leaves and the sound of the stream are by and far the best soundtrack. Great video as always.
Couldn’t agree more! Thanks for watching
WOW! That first trout was the nicest one I've probably ever seen!
Love the videos without music! Listening to the water is so much more relaxing and satisfying. Another amazing video!
I think I’m going to keep the no music videos coming! Glad you enjoyed
Like these types of videos the most Jonathan. Beautiful scenery with a gorgeous trout stream. Well done on the footage and edit. Thanks for posting and keep these types of videos coming.
I definitely will! Thanks for watching!
Beautiful brookie. What a creek! Love the style and Jon this was a great, classic video.
I admire that you do not care what the size is! Catching is catching and you sir are catching beautiful Trout!
It’s not always about size! Sometimes the scenery is worth its weight in gold

A great video and picturesque stream. I can see why it's your favorite! Thanks for the great, frequent content.
This was one of your best videos. Maybe the best ever! Fish and visual quality were both outstanding! Thanks!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed it
That first fish...Awesome. It does not get any better than that..Beautiful fish.
Couldn’t agree more! Thanks for watching
What a beautiful video - the scenery, the fish, the photography, the editing - all of it. Thanks for taking us along!
Thank you for watching!! Glad you enjoyed it
This is the stuff dreams are made of!! Beautiful fish.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
Great video with wide angle shots and closeups of the fish and the topography.
Thank you!
My brother showed me this channel and I'm really glad he did, my brother and I fly fish and it's always really satisfying to see other people enjoying this kinda thing.
First fish is beautiful indeed. Nice catch.
I do prefer those type of videos, also good to mix the first and 3rd person view. Keep up the good work
This popped up in my Google feed. Glad I watched it! Subscribed!
That’s awesome! Thanks for the sub!
I really liked this new style without music and more scenery. Good fishing as well!
Thank you!
Love this video. The stream is awesome and those colored up brookies were incredibly beautiful.
That first brookie was one for the books! Thanks for watching
very nice the colors on the brook trout were so stunning love this content

Yep a brookie is a brook trout! We just call them brookies for whatever reason. They’re actually not even a trout 😂 they’re a char. But thanks for watching and glad you enjoy!
Thats ok I always thought Brookies were inherently small fish...then I saw what they pull out of those waters in Labrador/Nova Scotia
Another good one, that’s a beautiful stream.
The most beautiful fish in the world!
That first bruh is the most beautiful fish I've ever seen¡!!!
Nice job with video love the content and the ruggedness of West Virginia

Incredible ! That's about as
nice as it can get in a creek
like that.
Lovely video! That creek is absolutely beautiful! Love seeing the brook trout fishing! Hopefully I can catch my first brook trout this year! 🎣🎣

John, that was an incredible brook trout. Yes indeed, you'd be rather than good. 😉
Brookies have always had my vote for the most beautiful fish👍
I couldn’t agree more. Thank you for watching!
In general Id agree.
A kiped-up Tiger gives them a run for their money though
Thats the most beautiful fish i ever saw, Gods creations are amazing 👏

Beautiful river, wow..

Great video man! One of my biggest inspirations!!! Love every video!

Stunning fish 🐟
Awesome video John! I went Euro nymphing for the first time today after watching some older videos of your’s and crushed them!
Heck yeah!! That’s awesome!!
Beautiful.
Very nice all around. I like the natural sounds but a little intro and exit music is nice too!
Great video we like to hear you talk!!! Don’t stop!!!

Wow that first fish....fire....
trout KING
I'm so jealous that youre fishing right now lol. In Maine we have 18 days before fly season.
That's unfortunate!! But it'll be here before you know it. Thanks for watching
Hiked and fished that creek before!
great vid .. and super fish
Good looking brookie!!! Come to Montana to fish, especially flyfish we have vast areas too and trout of all sorts and big brookies!
I for sure will one day! Thanks for watching
Cool Video, whats the name of that green reel ?
That first brookie may have been the prettiest one I've seen you land and no dink neither. Very nice 👌
Great video

Nice fish!
awesome
Nice job👍
Are you using just a standard floating fly line here? Seems to be a smaller diameter and with more memory than what I am used to.
Nope, I’m using what is basically a mono rig
Did you mentiom what fly you were using?
It was like I went cyber fishing with you, bro! Thanks for lettin us tag along. Stunning Brook Trout in several instances! Beautiful Bows.
May I ask what type of set up you are fishing in that video? Your fly line looked rather inconspicuous and I just wondered what your rig set up is.

Where is this exactly? Would love to fish a creek or river in WV soon

Those native Brookies are way prettier than the stockers we have in the West!
Yes. This style is good. Nice fish. I like the rod/reel/line setup. What is it?
Love the natural sounds rather than the generic tunes you hear on lots of channels! Another fun video to watch, lovely fish. I also like that we wear the same waders!!! (the DRYFT SEEKRs right?)
Yessir! I need to get a new pair because these are getting a little smelly 😂
What rod and reel are you using it looks awesome.
Which flies were you using? I'm also from west virginia and recently got into fly fishing and I'm trying to learn as much as I can.
Love the creek background noise. Just wondering are you euro nymphing?
Nice Brookie! Headed to WV to visit family in May. Bringing the fly rod. Any chance you could share the name of this creek or recommend some creeks. We will be in Charles Town / Harpers Ferry area. Thanks for great videos.
How do you like the dryft pack
Great job! Gorgeous ravine and stream. What brand waders do you use?
Dryft!
What creek in wva were you and fly were you using
Jon...Question for you...What length rod are you using on these creeks?
..
This creek is pretty open and I was nymphing because of the time of year. So I was using a 10 foot rod
Can you do a gear run down video of the common fly rods you use?
Thank you so much for your constant content! Really enjoy your videos from over here in Bavaria, Germany. Wish we had Brookies like that. What kind of setup are you using? Is that an Adam’s Rod?

Nice video.
Was wondering what fly line you use?
Entirely cortland! This was their mono core euro line and pre made euro leader
Just wondering what rod that is, I have seen you use it plenty of times and have never asked about it
