Finally made my way up to the headwaters of the Kern this past summer. Can't wait to do it again, Gonna hike in tho, Ill look into those pack trains when im older lol.
Looks like a great experience. Great outfitters. These trips should be this nice for what they generally cost. Not just this outfitter, but guided services in general.
I have not fished in many many years. I live in a lot of pain and discomfort because of my back and knees but I would like to try and make a trip like this before I die. Do you think that I could make a trip like this?? My fly fishing experience is very basic.......but I'd love to try and get back there.
You can do it. I took my 80 year old grandpa back there a few months ago. Be prepared to be very sore from the ride. It's worth it, though. Throw a caddis and a rainbow warrior or one at a time. You'll catch trout. Good luck, my friend. If you have any questions feel free to reach out.
Looks incredible! What time of the year do you start trips out to this stretch of the Upper Kern? Is there still too much runoff in late May to have good fishing?
Yes, that time of year will be raging whitewater, especially this year with the big snowpack. I find that upper kern is ideal around 100-200 cfs, which is usually late august in a wet year, or late July in a dry year.
This year it will likely be to snowy to get there even in June. Every year is different, you'll have to reach out to the outfitter. We went in September.
Chelsea did you take this operation over? Is it still out of the same location? We had a trip of a lifetime a few years ago. I remember meeting you although you were not our guide.
Disappointing video. Beautiful scenery, but no actual catches; unless I missed something. We rarely see what Goldens look like. It would have been nice to see a few. Just one man’s opinion.
I believe the statement is that you can only catch all three fish in one river. She was talking about the heritage trout challenge in California. The Kern River Rainbow only exists in that river
I fished higher up than this, but there were no special regulations. Pretty remote tho (especially for California) fishing pressure appeared to be minimal.
Great job. Great packing counrty. Beautiful photos
Thanks @Wilderness Riders. Will you be at the fly fishing show in California this coming February?

Yes. Highly Recco emended!
Our favorite trout!
Beautiful! Good job 😉
Great video!
I love this. Being from high country Oregon, I hope my family gets to do these kind of things
Me too
You put this video together well. Nice edit. New sub. I hope to see more fly fishing videos from you in the future.
Thank you for the compliment- you most certainly will see more mountains and fly fishing here - we have a big project in the works!
Heaven on earth !
That was awesome! Great video and sign me up💥
Would have been nice to see more fish
Agreed, didn't even show off a good pure Golden trout.

Wow amazing ! What I would do to be in that position. Absolutely stunning
Thx!

You have beautiful land to explore
Sad to see the poor state of the forest and the watershed. Fished and camped here in the 60s.

Hi Thomas, Steve Day still runs the outfit, Chelsea is a premiere guide. It’s great country, glad you’ve seen it!
I would like info on GTPT
Hi! Info and website is in the description. Have fun up there!
What do you do for a latrine out there? Human waste is problem in the back country.
No it’s not.
Haha, City Slicker!
Sure woulda been nice to see a golden?
What time of year?
Early September
Goldens looked to be spawning on the head waters first week of July when I went up there last year. Amazing fishing looking forward to going again.
Those cow pastures are letting in quite a lot of sediment into these "quality" fisheries.
Uninformed comment
Agreed.

All natural. No chemical fertilizer. Relax.
I went on this trip and the grass is just from the rain and the river. There isn’t another human within a 15 mile radius
I mean, you could’ve actually showed a few fish….

Being in the wilderness in a folding chair. Hhhmmm
@@thomashansen3932 you’d be more impressed with the toilet. … Both are better than squatting.
@@DLHMedia was expecting more rugged conditions. Carve your own chair from fallen lumber. LOL
@@thomashansen3932 that’s fun too
This is misleading! You can absolutely catch all 3 of those trout in other places, just not in that close of proximity.

No the view is better adter you've earned it by back packing in. The way we do in the Wind River Mountains. The fishing looks good though.
Hope this is one fly-single barbless hook...2 flies suck!!!

@@skypieper Within Sequoia N P you can't keep Kern River Rainbows.
