Whenever you're fishing holes and ledges that are close below your feet like that, if possible try to approach them, and fish them with the sun anywhere but at your back....because when the sun is at your back, and you're casting your shadow right over, and down into the fishing zone, it alerts all the fish to your presence. If you noticed, in this video it seemed like you had better luck in the reef holes that you weren't projecting a shadowy image of your human form into as soon as you approached.
@@andyhemsted4570 Yeah, there's no arguing that. BuuuuuT they aren't trying to film a travel video, or have a modeling session....and I'm not trying to watch that type of content either. Here they're trying to make an entertaining fishing video, and ultimately their potential for success is exponentially greater if they film themselves putting the smack down on some fish...and they'll definitely film more of THAT, if they mind their shadows. Besides when it comes to those of us super nerds, who eat this content up as devotedly as a porn addict binges porn vids....our money shots are the; strikes, fights, and landings. THAT is what we want to see clearly, and often, in the videos. 💦💦💦 So while I can't speak for everyone watching, I can say with absolute certainty: That I personally don't care one iota, if these guy's faces are unidentifiable on the finished video, because they're washed out from over exposure...or totally obscured in the darkest of shadows. *Fine Print* Now if we talking about any of those stunning IG models, who are 11's on a 10 scale, and are part of that new aged wave of female fishing content creators....that aforementioned opinion totally changes, as my list of "money shots" definitely grows 🤷🏼🤷🏼🤷🏼🍑🥥👙👀👀👀
@@demetriusevans4139 Thanks man..hope it brings you great success!! And while this tip applies to all fishing situations where your visible, and the fish are wary...it is exponentially more important when fishing these tide pools. Because when the tide recedes, and these fish realize they're trapped there for hours, the bigger ones we are usually interested in catching immediately know one thing in their missions to survive.....they know that they temporarily no longer need to worry about threats from below, or really from anywhere IN their environment. They know that the all the threats they have to contend with, while they wait for the tide to return, will be coming from above the water....so they ALL be watching, and ANY shadows absolutely send them scurrying.
The second breaksea you got was a charlie court, first cod you got was a wirrah. That baldie eating that herring, you will probably never see that again in your life, and you got it on film.
I went to OZ when I was 21. Spent a year there. One of my fondest memories is when we camped in Cape trib and we was fishing for our food. I got hit in a reef hole it took about 20 metres of line and straight snapped me. I was using the line the reel came with, which was aboit 5mil thick haha
If anyone is curious of species: Fish #1: Leopard Wirrah (Acanthistius pardalotus) Fish #2: Breaksea Cod (Epinephelides armatus) Fish #3: Chinaman Rockcod (Epinephelus rivulatus) - not a breaksea Fish #4 & 5: Breaksea Cod again Fish #6: Tailor (Pomatomus saltatrix) Fish #7: Australian Herring / Tommy Ruff (Arripis georgianus)
Great video Scott How beautiful is our coastline? I recently took my two sons island hopping inspired by your previous island videos And we had a cracking day of exploring and snorkeling We were even lucky enough to meet two seals Blessed to live here 👍
What he hooked into at the 13:08 mark was a bluefish. In aussie terms i'll say they're much more fun when they're closer to a meter in length and over 5 kilos.
Speaking of Aussie terms, they call them a Tailor ... instead of a Bluefish. Which you possibly already knew, but I know a lot of other people from lands that're NOT Downunder.
I've done the same along the California coast..caught numerous Monkey Face Eels in holes like this..let it sit near the bottom near the rocks and WHAM!!
Pay attention to where your shadow is, if it's over the water you're likely not gonna get a lot of bites because the fish see something lurking over them. Use the sun's position to your advantage
Do you plug chukers ever do any flyfishing down there? I wouldn't mind taking a 9' or 10' fly rod to those tide pools and draw a nice big tinseled streamer though those beautiful holes Thanks for the tour
Very cool. The breaksea make me think of northwest fishing. Maybe try a small/mid size popper with a big bloop and long pause close to those edges. Breaksea (or baldie!) on a popper imagine that.
Thats a black spotted grouper 🤙🏼 Paralabrax maculato is the Scientific name 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 I sometimes dont like the taste of black groupers but when theyre you g and small they might not have a worm infestation since these fish like to lay on the Ground in certain current areas 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 Hope i added useful information 😂
You missed one by a half second! Rewind to 7:40 in video and watch the fish reveal himself from under the reef on the bottom right. You pulled it out right when he started to come out

Exactly . I know guys who walk right up to the edge of he pool and look in . Then they say : Nope ! !
Don't see anything here ...😂😂
Will this is true, backlit is better for the camera and filming I would think
Great tip

The Baldie was a surprise f sure. didnt think they were the whole fish eating type more squid occys and crab diet but ...there you go
@@Saltfix I often get them on herring fillters/half herring
@@-CHeWy- on the bottom I know they hit baits . But didn’t expect to see one slurp a live herring off the surface
Ikan sunu
It was a steak sarny, not a herring.
🤣

Your shadow bro...... Your shadow is scaring them off....
Wow you guys have bluefish there!
I use a wet handtowel over the fish's eyes to calm them down. makes it much easier to remove the hooks.
I give them tea and biscuits .Seems to calm them down...?
Some great footage mate😀
Chers J
pretty lucky to have a sweet coastline to explore.
You should try to keep your shadow off the water it will put down the bigger fish

It’s a daiwa certate 4000 reel and Daiwa arid rod 7ft 5-8kg
We were preparing to dive in one on the Red Sea, guess what ? a big big shark was looking up at us, saying come on in im hungry.scary minute.
Sharks are friends .
