10 CHEAP Luxury Cars That Look Expensive! (Under £10,000)

  • Luxury cars can be cheap if you want them to be, even a Rolls Royce will go for under £10,000! This video shows 10 potential options which you could go for if luxury is the aim, but cheap is the game...
Of course, none of these cars come with a champagne fridge, or curtains, or any of that fancy stuff, but they still provide a level of luxury above and beyond the average car, for less than a new Skoda Fabia.
I hope you enjoy the video!

    • @davidk7262
      @davidk7262 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

So true. Half the cars on this list get a bad rap for reliability because people stretch themselves to buy them and then can’t afford to maintain them.

    • @davefrance3721
      @davefrance3721 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

@@davidk7262 I don't know about that. I have owned non luxury cars that have had no issues apart from normal wear and tear. Brakes, tyres, clutch etc..
The trap people fall into is thinking luxury cars are somehow of better quality and build and will give faultless service.
I owned a Jaguar X type basic model and it gave me 140000 miles of trouble free motoring before I sold it on. All I replaced was a battery and a clip that secured a hose to the intercooler. And of course tyres and brake pads.
I bought an XF 3.0 diesel s expecting it to be of the same quality. How wrong I was.
Despite it having the perfect life of daily leisurely motorway runs to work and back, and having it serviced well before the service schedules, I encountered many problems, including the alternator failing without so much as a warning light coming on, turbo actuator, inlet hoses, electric window mechanism, boot wiring loom, suspension bushes, and the final straw, the inlet manifold cracking in the cold weather.
That last job would have been over 8 hours labour and you can't just replace one of the manifolds you have to replace them both.
Many of the faults I had with that car were common faults but expensive to fix. I wish I had done more research into reliability before buying it..
You would think that the more expensive the car, it would at least be as reliable as the cheaper cars in the range.
      I learned a hard lesson.

I owned a 2011 Jaguar XJ for four years. Bought with 16k and sold with 90k on the clock. Having previously owned Mercedes C and CLS I’d say this is a superior car both in refinement and engine performance. Downside for me was not being able to buy a suitable roof rack or tow bar to carry bikes.
I may have been lucky but other than usual service and consumables such as tyres it was quite reasonable cost wise to own. In summary, I’d say the best car I’ve owned

the Phaeton is cheap becouse people are snobs and need a brand. I had one for 2 years now and spent under 1000 euros on repairs. I do not use the VW service but I have a good mecanic. The car is a dream, I feel special every day driveing one of the few manufactured cars avalable. Build quality is aparent everywhere, the dynaudio sound is great and the car is incredibly well insulated. Climate controll with humidity remuval is also special. I have the long 4 seater and that is what I recomend, if you get it go all the way. 15.000 euros will get you a reliable, afordable hand made car with 4 heated/ventilated massage chairs.

I drive a 2009 Jaguar X type executive model and it is very luxurious. Ivory leather, heated seats, sat nav, hands free phone, etc, and that only cost me £4000. I have had it for almost two years and touch wood I have only had one problem with it, which was a problem with the turbo, but managed to get it fixed for only £170. Aussie here. Your video was very thought provoking and could influence my next ride. Local prices for most of these cars weren't anywhere near as painful as I'd expected. I've looked for examples that represent the best combination of purchase price, options, year model and mileage. It's also important to remember that Australian variations are usually better optioned as standard compared to UK/US variants:
    1. VW Phaeton 3.0 TDI V6 - This vehicle was never brought to Australia :-(
    2. 1987 Rolls Royce Silver Spirit 6.8 V8 - I found an example with ~60K miles for AUD $22,250 (~£12,000), so not bad considering
    3. 2009 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TD V6 - Cheapest I could find with similar mileage was AUD $24,000 (~£13,000). Again, not bad.
    4. 2011 BMW 730d 3.0 TD V6 - Found one with ~60K miles for AUD $28,800 (~£15,600), or a 2010 model with ~100K miles for $24,500 (~£13,250)
    5. 2011 Mercedes Benz S350 3.0 TD V6 - The cheapest I could find was an example with less than 90K miles for AUD $37,990 (~£20,500), so starting to get comparatively expensive.
    6. 2012 Jaguar LWB 3.0 TD V6 - By far the cheapest I found was AUD $37,800 (£20,400) for one with 130K miles, although $48,000 (~£26,000) for examples with ~55-65K miles was far more typical. No thanks.
    7. 2010 Lexus 450H 3.5i Hybrid - Japanese cars are definitely better value than European marques in Australia. An LS450H with less than 60K miles can be had for under AUD $20,000 (~£10,800). Still more expensive than the UK though.
    8. 2008 Porsche Cayenne S 4.8 V8 - While I can buy an MY06 with (wait for it) >200K miles for AUD $11,500 (~£6,200), I found a nice looking 2009 example with 60K miles for $29,000 (~£15,600). Again, not as bad as I'd thought.
    9. 2006 Maserati Quattroporte 4.2 V8 - As you mentioned, loads of variations here. I found a fantastic GT version with less than 45K miles for AUD $29,000 (~£15,600). Again, very surprising.
    10. 2008 Audi S8 5.2 V10 - A bit on the expensive side compared to your side of the pond, but a 2008 model with ~130K miles for AUD $42,500 (~£23,000) was the cheapest example I could find. $50,000 would get you an example with ~90K miles.
All in all, pretty surprising as I fully expected all the vehicles (at least the German and English marques) you listed to be 3 times the price.

In June I bought myself a L322 V8 diesel from 2007. Knowing all the gremlins, I knew there would be potential trouble. I started maintaining it, give it some love it didn’t receive for a long time. Still there are some gremlins left (no working seatheating/vent, rearview camera etc.) but I love to drive it daily. And the gremlins are hobby to me, gladly sort them out and when finnished, perhaps selling it.

Great Job! I would go for the Lexus bullet proof then the Porsche Cayenne, however in terms of looks the Maserati Quattroporte although reliability scares me.

    What, no Lancia Thesis?
I love how the list is effectively topped and tailed by variants of the same car. I’ve an uncle with the older A8, same platform as the VW I think? It’s a really lovely place to be.
Great video, the Maserati looks beautiful!

Hi, great show. I have spent 40 plus years in the car business and you are bang on with these vehicles. Great to look at, go very well but expensive to maintain. Out of interest I just bought a Lexus LS460, luxury, performance and they are reliable. Thanks, Mark

Cayenne Turbo (I know you were talking about the S but most of the issues are common to both) was truly a vast money pit, strangely I didn't have a single electrical issue, 95% of the issues were coolant related (plastic water pipes everywhere, even the alternator was water cooled, and yes, I found that out when the feed pipe (plastic) broke) and the remainder of the problems were air suspension related. Epic car though but stick with Porsche's sports cars!

Very simple comment my friend. I'm a dyed in the wool 'car guy' from Ford Model T's to Supercharged Jags and 500,000 plus9111 Carrera/ 911SC /993 P car miles, many at 150mph plus. I really enjoyed your video. I think you did a great job of 'sussing' out the have's vs. the don't want to have (nots) Just a bit of advice on the 'Rolly'........if you can't afford the maintenance it still looks GREAT in the drive! Good job!!

I like the real world reviews for real people. It might be helpful to add fuel economy with your performance figures as well. Keep up the research on common problems, because not many TH-cam people do that and it's very helpful. Good work.

Economy figures will pale in comparison to the maintenance cost of most of those cars. If you are worried about the cost of fuel economy, then these cars (except for the reliable V6 Lexus) are not for you.
