I'm in San Francisco, CA and at my local yarn shop I took a class about the different wools. There was also a sheep shearer who instructed us on thedifferent qualities. She's written a book about her experience as a shearer...RAW MATERIAL, Working Wool In the West by Stephany Wilkes. Interesting read if it shows up your way.
OOO I will have to keep an eye out for that, it sound very interesting and informative.I'm sure that would come in handy for spinning too. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Michael - it was nice meeting and speaking with you at WSW. I’ve been driving up from Chicago to go for a few years now and always enjoy it. This year I took a list and stuck to it (mostly 😊). The contest is called Sheep to Shawl - it’s amazing to watch the progress in a day. Hope to see you next year!
So nice getting to chat with you too! It was so worth the drive to go up and check out the festival. Really hopping to do it again next year. Sheep to Shawl that's it. The little I saw of it, it looked really cool. Nice that you mostly stuck to your list, I hope we run into each other again next year.
This was a super walk around with you Michael. Looked such fun and well done for not buying just for the sake of it. I am going to a wool/ sewing show in November ( in Yorkshire, England) and think I will take your “ not buying for the sake of it” with me……. Well after watching you just now, I think I am………….🤭
Sounds like you need to get a lamb for apartment. Your roommate loves them, you can use the wool, and Kendrick can have a blast herding it around. I vote for the nuzzly scratchy hoppy little angel at about 7:20.
What a great day! I loved getting to meet you and share my yarn choices with you. Loved seeing your Once and Floral sweater in person. Hopefully we can do it again next year.
Thanks for this. Having been born and raised in Detroit, I love seeing sheep and wool products coming out of the Midwest. I'd love to find a yarn from Midwest wool that is non-superwash and affordable so I could support my people, but as yet, I've come up empty-handed. It was a joy to see what a relaxed seeming day ot was for you. Thanks again for filming this.
Thanks for sharing the festival! I am in central IL & have thought about attending, so it’s great to see a preview. I agree that those needle felting kits were adorable!
Thanks for the great recap. I was there the day after you. Second year going to this event. This time I took an all-day spinning class. The teacher was great and I learned a lot! Didn't have much time for shopping but picked up two big skeins of Henry's Attic Prime Alpaca (100%, sport weight). I haven't decided yet what to make with them. Hopefully I will see you there next year and will definitely say Hello if I do. Another great event contest to watch is the sheepdog herding.
How fun! I saw that spinning class and it looked pretty cool. I will for sure have to check out the bearding contest next time. I bet that’s really cool to watch.
Thank you so much for the tour, I felt like I was there! I live all the way in Alaska and its just a bit far for me to go but I see they have so many wool festivals more in the Midwest and East coast. When I visited Scotland I saw a contest called Sheep to Shawl. The sheared the sheep, cleaned and spun it and the knitters each had a section to knit to complete the shawl. It was so much fun seeing that , similar to what you were mentioning.. I particular loved all of the yarn your video was showing and loved the place you mentioned, Fiber Optic..You mentioned you wrote down the names of a couple of the shawls... do you mind sharing because they were beautifully? Thanks again and looking forward to your next podcast!
I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed the recap. It was a really great event. Some of the patterns I saw and really liked at Fiber Optic were: Meet the Sea Halibut Evoluta BrainTree
Thanks for sharing your experience, Michael! I’ll try to check it out next year. I was drooling at all the yarn and crafts so hopefully I can be as restrained as you were 😊
Recently there was a similar event/competition in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. Where each group had to produce from raw wool fibre, a garment. The fellow shearing was viewed on another podcast. Talking about the Aussie/NZ method of shearing and control of the sheep with his legs and to take his hands off the sheep.
Love the field trip. You fed our spirits ♥️🙏🏽🧶
🤗 Yay!!! Glad you enjoyed this little field trip.😁
Great tour! Thanks. Enjoy those wonderful soaps. Best wishes for more September.
Thank you so much!
Thanks for taking us along. Perfect watching with my morning coffee and a great start of the day. Salam wa sa’aadah
Glad you enjoyed it and that sounds like a lovely way to start the day. 😁✌🏽
Great video quality of it was a joy to watch. Couldn't attend this year, so thanks for showing me some of what I missed.
You are the cure to a rough day for sure. Still jealous of Angela and you, because I adore ya both!
Awe🥰🥰 it was so nice getting. To meet her while I was there

Thanks Michael. I haven't been to a yarn festival for a while so it was nice to 'attend' via your video! ☮
Happy to bring you along. ☺️
Lovely! Thanks for bringing us along ❤️
My pleasure 😊
I’m with you, Michael-I love hand-made soap!
It’s all I want to use now and I’m not mad about it at all.
Thanks for the video! Little lambs-how sweet!
My pleasure! They were the most adorable things ever.

Yeah it took a lot not to just grab things but I think it was for the best. I hope it works out for you too. 😁

Omg!! Yea to all of this. 😁

That was so much fun and I love a color sharing moment. I really hope to go back next year too.
We went on Friday and a lamb was born about 10 min before we went in that barn. So cute. It was a nice festival. Great video!
Wow that’s so wild! They were really cute too.
Thanks for watching. 😁

Thanks for coming along for the ride! You should check out Northern Bee fiber. They have non superwash yarn and I think they are out of Michigan.
@@piece4peacecraftingpodcast Fabulous! Thanks for the tip!

Totally worth the trip if you can swing it. Happy to provide this little preview. ☺️

For sure!!! Yes, you should totally check it out. Just tell yourself you’re going for the vibes and if you get yarn, well… that’s part of the vibe. 😂
This looks like a great festival.
It’s was such a fun time!!

So cool!! Yeah the whole process is still so fascinating to me.
Just wondering…… am I the only one dancing to this music?
Hopefully not. ☺️
