Okay, I haven't had time to watch yet, but I just had to say, "YAY!!! YOU ARE BACK!!!" Missed your podcast a lot, and am looking forward to watching this one.
It was such a lovely surprise to see this today, it's always a treat when you've been able to make another episode. I'm glad you're well, I thoroughly enjoyed everything you shared here, as always - Have a lovely day! 🤗
I’m so glad you’re back. I’ve missed your fiber journey. Thank you for enabling me to buy more coffee mugs. I love his work. Simple yet functional and very pleasing to the eye.
I love when you feature different artists, whether they are selling fleece, fiber or tools! Although your FO are lovely, I really don’t watch videos just because of that. I mostly just enjoy the chat about everything…life, weather, wool, festivals, ups & downs, books, music… ❤
Lovely vlog ,, I think the orange makes all the other colours pop ,, maybe use less of it if the pattern allows but keep it in to make your item sing. Thank you for the live sheep interlude it’s good to see the different breeds in close up. 😊.
So nice to have you back! I loved all the sheep!!!! Also, your cozy memories blanket is amazing! I love how yours is different from mine in construction... it looks so neat!
Happy surprise! You're back! Missed you. Our local fiber festival is this coming weekend. Its name keeps changing so this year its Adirondack Wool and Arts. Our guild will be spinning there both days Jen from Whispering Pines Farm (super soft Shetlands) will be there. Speaking of which I finally got brave enough to wash the fleece I got from her. Yes, you inspired me to do it. WOW! So amazing. I spun at a farm tour location today with Tunis x Finn wool that I washed at our guild's last event. So enjoyable. See you again soon.
Wonderful video! Looks we both had a lovely time at the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool! It was a perfect day, wasn’t it! I’m doing the MKAL 2023 also; and I agree, my knitting skills were bumped up by this shawl. I didn’t do it last year; I started but didn’t like my colors. I’ll maybe start again! This year, I love my colors! And can’t wait!! Sending you my best. ❤
Thank you so much for saying such kind things about our fleeces at Observatory Hill Farm! I'll tell the girls in the barn that they are doing a good job. 😉 Have fun with Sophia and Gilberta! 🙂~ Cindy (aka Shep)
Happy to see your are podcasting again. I hope you had a relaxing summer. Good for you to not hesitate and join in Mr. West’s mkal. I 💗 love the colour combo you have chosen and I look forward to seeing how the shawl knits up. Thank you and take good care.
Omg Lisa I’m so glad you’re back. I hope you had a fabulous summer. Thanks for sharing the wool festival with us. For the MAL I do love the orange but the coral beautiful and plays well with the other yarns. Also I love your haircut. It looks so good on you. Have fun in the UP and I can’t wait for your next episode.
I am so glad you went to the WI Sheep and Wool Festival! My sister, niece, and I go every year. I love being able to touch everything. I actually talked to a vendor and got three Alpaca fleeces for free. I am overjoyed.
That bright orange just makes the gradient sing! Gorgeous! Loved seeing the footage of the festival, how lovely. Look forward to seeing the journey of your fleece purchases
I think so too. After all it’s a Stephen West pattern! And as my hubby said “your bought the kit, use the kit!” I think a pair of coral socks will be on the needles soon.
Glad you made it up here! It was lovely weather for the festival. Too bad I missed you and JillianEve too because I went on the last day/Sunday. Those sheep were sooooo cute and the vendors so kind. ❤❤❤
Hi ! Please don’t think that way about getting older … I recently heard somebody say : everybody gets to be young but not everybody has the privilege of getting old ! That made me think a lot and I thought I would share ! So true ! I have missed your episodes on you tube and glad you are back !
You just popped up yesterday, finishing today.Your sample spins would be so gorgeous in a shawl either held double with some of your white handspun or that red spun with some of the locks. Finnish knitting stories has done lots ot interesting shawls. I personally am hooked on alpaca as spins so nicely, warm and soft. have socks, shawl, scarf, sweaters of handspun but used the scraps of acrylic for scrappy blanket so can toss it in washer. Since I spin for knitting a project , I use bottom whorl simple spindle doing as many plies as I want then ply directly from the spindle onto a much longer dowel spindle. My unattained goal is to not have to stop knitting and spin more. I do appreciate all your fiber showing, means I don't buy!! 12 fleeces are my limit

I love all your collections of spindles too.and my Valkyrie combs are hopefully arriving here next week. I’m back now to watching you❤😊
Joan, it’s lovely to hear from you! I hope I am still making things in 20 odd years, too. You are example for us all! So exciting for your wool combs. Did you get the pad to clamp to the edge of your table. It makes it easier to pull off the wool from the combs but if not you can still clamp down the comb if you want. Thanks so much for introducing yourself. Let me know how you get on with your combs. 🤗

Its lovely to see you again. You are looking very well and refreshed. I can understand the intoxication of the sheep fleece fumes at a festival! You were restrained. I can see you purchases made you very happy. That red ball of roving is a wonderful colour and will be grand!
Welcome back!!! What an interesting v-podcast… I feel like I was there (fiber festival) on my own. What a knowledge about sheep breeds. And because of Breed Study earlier this year I could also identify many. ❤congratulations on breaking your strong will and buying half fleeces :-) Also now I’m inspired of knitting a blanket myself, what an excellent timing, winter is right around the corner.
Lovely to see you again! Yes I’m doing the MKAL but I’m using stash. Your gradient is FAB! It has to be the orange - it gives the gradient vitality. The darkest colour is gorgeous too. I bought some Shetland and Jacob washed fleece today - it’s so alluring 😅
Hi 👋! I'm so glad you are back. It's so nice you had fun at the fiber festival. I like you show that putter in his shop. My niece loves ❤️ doing puttery and selling her works at shows and online. She like doing the mountains of Idaho on her plates and bowls.
I love the handspun blanket! Your fleeces are gorgeous as well as your knits. I think the coral would be a good alternative. I look forward to seeing the progress. Thank you for sharing with us.
Glad to see you posting again! My husband and I also enjoyed the WI Sheep and Wool festival on Friday. We also went to the Fiber Festival in Allegan, MI, a few weeks before and that one was great as well. I think it had more vendors but it was hard to tell for sure. I'm just getting back into spinning since retiring and have my winter projects lined up with a Leicester Longwool fleece and a Coopworth fleece - YAY!!! Your podcasts are inspiring, thank you!
I’m so happy to see you back, you’ve been missed. Loved this episode so much, and your spinning is so beautiful and inspirational. The Inglenook Sampler is gorgeous… I need to try Inglenook, they always have such beautiful fiber.
I was there too at the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool :). I live in Madison WI. Your episode was really great, loved seeing the pottery. I loved your husbands response when you thanked him for taking you to the festival and he said, "Absolutely" :D. Loved the welch county socks which can be for men as well. Wow your arboreal sweater is looks Great! I have subscribed.
It was great seeing you back!! Great podcast as always. Love the new hair cut! You got some beautiful fleeces. It will be fun to see what you decide to make with them. Love seeing all of the different breeds of sheep. I have a once in a life time event coming up. I am helping with sheep shearing on Sunday the 24th of this month! I can't wait!! Get to pick a couple of fleeces to take home. Should be fun. Take care Lisa! Carol
Wonderful to see you back! Every minute enjoyable - love those sheepy faces. I'm currently knitting the Paul Klee sweater with my handspun - a bit of an adventure. Look forward to seeing what comes of all the beautiful fiber you showed us today.
@@SoulfulSpinning Yes - nine colors, starting with natural white then muted greens, pinkish tones, lavender, taupe... Paul Klee meets Monet. I'm curious how it will turn out - on the sixth round of color now. A fair bit of ripping back and restarting has occurred, but that's normal for me and sweaters. My second handspun sweater! Loving the whole process.
Hi Lisa! You got such lovely fleeces, and that MKAL yarn- I love it!! I would definitely keep in the orange, tho the one you swapped in was nice too. But that orange, for me, is the winner. I’m MKALling again this year, I’ve picked from stash & have mohair(s) that I will likely add as a ‘mohair dare.’ I’m going to use lovely shades of brown- basically because I had a set of 3 & not much else in my fingering weight stash is solid/semi solid! It was great to see you in my TH-cam feed tonight! 🤗
So cool to see you got some fleeces from Observatory Hill! I have heard wonderful things about them from Ravelry and had reached out to them to see about fleeces for sale. They have some Bond sheep descended from the moorit Bond flock imported to the US by Joanna Gleason. I didn't know they also had some of the Corriedales from Whitefish Bay. (I tried to get one of Whitefish Bay's fleeces this year and they were gone before I even loaded the page.)
Aww my husband would also go shopping with me to Rhinebeck the past few years before 2020. ( not far from us). We had previously spent years we would both be working the 4h booth and had little time or cash for actually shopping it. ! Miss it all, although I'll be volunteering this year.
I’m so happy to see a video from your channel! I just started watching it and I’m going to savor it so I’ll comment again after I’m finished. Just wanted to say how nice it is to see your beautiful, filmography and wonderful podcast.
@@SoulfulSpinning It was wonderful to see your update. I think my favorite part of your video was the sheep. I really expected to see you reach out and pet them, though I bet that is not always safe and possibly looked down upon at these events. Anyway, good to see you again!
Lovely to see you back again. I can totally empathise with the difficulty getting back to filming again after a break away. I have done the same myself, on many occasion lol T x
You can buy just about a whole fleece for that kind of price, that's a lot to pay for a lb I've just bought 2 fleeces one BFL and the other Leicester long wool both are over 5000g I paid £20 for the long wool and £25 for the BLF I have bought smaller amounts in the past but it just works out much cheaper the more you get especially if you have too pay postage also I'd certainly watch if you did any vids on quilting, it's something I'd love to have a try at Thanks for sharing ❤
Mirkwood spindles have “infinity ball” in the tip making them spin forever without slowdown. People who start spinning can benefit from these spindles, the only drawback is, once you tried a Mirkwood spindle it’s hard to find a better one after ..
Thank you for coming back, Lisa it seems like forever...but we all need time for self care, exploration and inspiring activities. I can't wait to see what you make with the mohair.
Lovely to see all your fiber fun again! It was a great weekend for WI Sheep & Wool - I went on Sunday and had a great time! I liked seeing your time spent in Jefferson with the potter!
I often card wool then spin “worsted”. I test elasticity after washing the yarn by bouncing the hank as one does to straighten strands B4 twisting into “knot”. This test tells me a lot about the yarn.
Lisa it's great to see you back!!!! I live in Central IL and grand daughter lives in Wisconsin. I've thought a few times about going to that festival and now you've made me more curious. I would definitely love the pottery shop, too, as I love earthenware pottery. Would love for you to do a live sometime for those of us who have questions...see you soon!!
@@SoulfulSpinning aww don't be shy Lisa we are already TH-cam friends and think you are wonderful besides we watch you after you post!! Also love seeing the fun and silly side of you!! I'd be interested in also hearing what others might bring to the discussion!! Gives us a shot!! LOL..anyway thanks for responding and sharing yourself with us and your fiber journey!
My SIL lives in Jefferson so I flew out there (I’m in Utah) for the festival. We were there for a few hours on Friday. We also went to Fort Atkinson after the festival. 🤣
The size of your spun yarn stash basket made me lol! I thought I had a problem till I saw that! I think the blanket is a lovely idea. Our local Masham sheep fair is about to take place and is not far away from us in North Yorkshire but I may have to avoid it this year because of all the prepared and unprepared fleeces I already have and my will power is next to zero at those places.
Such a joy to see you back and never missing a beat - still so much to do! i too am happily anticipating the MKAL. I thought, if I'm going to do it, then 13 was the one, and now it turns out that a year has passed and the one-time thing becomes a habit.
How lovely to spend some time with you and your lovely spirit today. Thanks for showing all of the breeds! I’m looking forward to our Virginia Fiber Festival and the sheep dog trials in October and will probably demo spindling. 💋🐑❤️🎶 … and the music was a sweet surprise.
My daughter-in-law and I went to the WI Sheep and Wool Festival on Saturday and Sunday. It was so much fun, I bought some wool with the hopes of getting good enough at spinning to produce enough for a sweater. Maybe a shawl. We'll see how it goes. Thank you for sharing your experience at the festival.
Hi there😊❤, so glad you had a great time in WI. I wish I would have gone back on Saturday. I managed not to buy a fleece, kind of wish I would have. I haven’t been able to get the hang (pun intended) of a supported spindle. I love all my spindles, but that one is not coming naturally to me.
Hi Lisa, VERY happy to see you and catch up on your summer. I love your podcast, spinning and taste in fiber. Plus I learn much from you. I fell in love with the red Coopworth and Bamboo roving you showed. What is the name of her fiber shop? I believe you said Laura Berry but couldn’t find her in the WS&W vendor list. Thank you for sharing. I watched spinning some Southdown Hello Yarn roving and planning on making 3 ply sock yarn so your sock knitting was fun to see. ❤
Laura’s shop is psalm23farm on Etsy. She does not have any colored roving listed but if you message her on Etsy she probably sell you some. There is a link in the description!
Another wonderful video!! It is shearing season here in Australia and I purchased some stunning Corriedale and ultra fine merino fleeces this month. So I decided to behave and not purchase an MKAL kit. Instead I plan to dye my own gradient from some of my ultra fine merino hand spun.
1st time here. I'm still clue one of Twist and turns 😮 I like the orange that came with SW kit, looks like a growing flame-id call it Ignite!! The other seems to not be as eye catching??? Love your treasures, I sin on treedle and e-spinnner. I can't seem to get the hang of spindles. Physical limitations 😕 I'll be back! Subscribed!!
Loved the podcast today…. ❤ Your fleece purchases are gorgeous! I like the colors for your MKAL and agree that the coral would be a better choice than the bright orange. Maybe you can wait to decide until his clues get to that color…. I’m one of those people that wait until the MKAL is over to decide if I’m going to make one. I tried to do one with a different designer but did not like how it was progressing. I really did not like the finished shawl that other people completed and since then have not joined into the MKALs …. To each our own, right? 😊
Your spinning is just so beautiful. How do you keep your hand from cramping? I’ve been trying to spin with a support spindle and my hand would cramp terribly
Your flicking hand or your fiber holding hand? If I spin for too long I can get a little repetitive stress pain in my flicking fingers. Taking frequent breaks and using a little arnica on my sore joints helps too if I’ve overdone it.
@@SoulfulSpinning Thank you! It was my flicking hand that would always cramp up. I think I would hold everything too tight and spin for too long. Thank you for the arnica advice 🥰
There are many wonderful makers. Spanish Peacock, Enid Ashcroft and True Creations are some of my fav’s but there are loads more. You might try searching the hashtag on Instagram if you use it. I believe Ravelry and FB have support spindle groups too where you could learn about different makers. Good luck with your search. That’s half the fun. 💕 Take care, Lisa
So happy to see you back ❤ thanks for all the videos of the shows.. I have a question for you about drop spindles . Could we chat somewhere on Instagram or something. I would like to pick your brain lol.

Love seeing all of the different breeds of sheep. I have a once in a life time event coming up. I am helping with sheep shearing on Sunday the 24th of this month! I can't wait!! Get to pick a couple of fleeces to take home. Should be fun. Take care Lisa! Carol
Hi Carol, I hope you share your shearing adventure over on instagram. It will be hard work but fun too I think!
Wonderful to see you back! Every minute enjoyable - love those sheepy faces. I'm currently knitting the Paul Klee sweater with my handspun - a bit of an adventure. Look forward to seeing what comes of all the beautiful fiber you showed us today.
I looked up that sweater. So many possible with color choices for the yoke. Are you going to use multiple shades of handspun?
@@SoulfulSpinning Yes - nine colors, starting with natural white then muted greens, pinkish tones, lavender, taupe... Paul Klee meets Monet. I'm curious how it will turn out - on the sixth round of color now. A fair bit of ripping back and restarting has occurred, but that's normal for me and sweaters. My second handspun sweater! Loving the whole process.
Very, very happy to have you back. I like the gradient for the MKAL that you created by using the coral rather than the orange.
It may be more wearable for sure. I’ll decide when it comes time to use that color.
Great to have you back
Thank you!
I’m so glad you are participating in the MKAL again this year. I hope you’re fully recovered. Take care, Susan. 🤗
Good to see you.
You too! Thanks for stopping by. 😀
Thank you, James!
@@SoulfulSpinning It was wonderful to see your update. I think my favorite part of your video was the sheep. I really expected to see you reach out and pet them, though I bet that is not always safe and possibly looked down upon at these events. Anyway, good to see you again!
I love the coral in your line up of skeins for this year’s MKAL!
For the Stephen West combo; take the orange one!! More pop!!
I like your hair like that!
That’s what my hubby says, besides it’s Stephen’s kit so I’ll go with it! Thanks for the compliment 🥰
Lovely to see you back again. I can totally empathise with the difficulty getting back to filming again after a break away. I have done the same myself, on many occasion lol T x
Yes, it takes a lot of discipline to keep in a recording schedule! Thanks for watching. 😀
So happy to see your dear smile and hear what you've been up to! And...Corriedale ❤❤❤ I have the Folk Sock book, too. Have a wonderful weekend
I thought you might have that book. Wasn’t it Sarah from Fiber Trek who spoke about the classic knitting books? It’s so nice going “old school”.
You can buy just about a whole fleece for that kind of price, that's a lot to pay for a lb
I've just bought 2 fleeces one BFL and the other Leicester long wool both are over 5000g I paid £20 for the long wool and £25 for the BLF
I have bought smaller amounts in the past but it just works out much cheaper the more you get especially if you have too pay postage also
I'd certainly watch if you did any vids on quilting, it's something I'd love to have a try at
Thanks for sharing ❤
Hope you love your Mirkwood support spindle. I have a few and love them!
Mirkwood spindles have “infinity ball” in the tip making them spin forever without slowdown. People who start spinning can benefit from these spindles, the only drawback is, once you tried a Mirkwood spindle it’s hard to find a better one after ..
I love it and the little gems are so pretty when it spins. 💕
Thank you for coming back, Lisa it seems like forever...but we all need time for self care, exploration and inspiring activities. I can't wait to see what you make with the mohair.
Thank you Joanne. I am getting some tips on spinning the mohair from a friend. It’s so soft!
Lovely to see all your fiber fun again! It was a great weekend for WI Sheep & Wool - I went on Sunday and had a great time! I liked seeing your time spent in Jefferson with the potter!
That was a highlight of the trip for sure!
So glad to see u back. Was also in Jefferson last weekend!
I hope you had fun and came home with a few goodies!
P.S. I love the coral alternative it will suit you. I’m participating in the MCAL for the first time this year xx
Thank you! I’d be a little nervous to do a live stream but it might be fun!
LOL..anyway thanks for responding and sharing yourself with us and your fiber journey!
ahhhh I missed your podcast! I’m a fan of the swap in for the coral, it suits you!
I will have to swatch the yarn and see what I like best. It depends on how daring I am I suppose. 😆
My SIL lives in Jefferson so I flew out there (I’m in Utah) for the festival. We were there for a few hours on Friday. We also went to Fort Atkinson after the festival. 🤣
Small world! Did you have coffee at Beauty and the Bean, too? 😂
@@SoulfulSpinning no, we got some pizza after the festival because we were hungry. 🤣
I am so happy to see you back! Your podcast always brings me so much joy! ❤ I hope you had a wonderful summer.
We had a beautiful summer here in the Midwest and the autumn promises to be lovely to. I hope you did too. 🥰
So happy to see you back on my screen Lisa, missed you?
The size of your spun yarn stash basket made me lol! I thought I had a problem till I saw that! I think the blanket is a lovely idea. Our local Masham sheep fair is about to take place and is not far away from us in North Yorkshire but I may have to avoid it this year because of all the prepared and unprepared fleeces I already have and my will power is next to zero at those places.
Yes, I know the zero willpower feeling all to well!
the coral would be beautiful! I chose the velvet for my first MKAL!
Oh the velvet kit is so pretty. Are you sharing your shawl on social media? I’d love to see your progress.
Such a joy to see you back and never missing a beat - still so much to do! i too am happily anticipating the MKAL. I thought, if I'm going to do it, then 13 was the one, and now it turns out that a year has passed and the one-time thing becomes a habit.
I can’t help myself. Stephen is a marketing guru amongst his other talents. It’s like a huge party you don’t want to miss!
Your festival sounds lovely. David’s music was just perfect for my video and I than you again for allowing me to use it. Take care beautiful friend 🤗
@@SoulfulSpinning ❤️
Aww, I was at the festival just on Friday too! Probably walked right past you at some point without realizing 😂 Glad to see you back!
Next time I want to get together. Must plan ahead of time though. 🥰
I hope you enjoy your spin. There were so many beautiful fibers on offer there. What did you choose?
Love all your videos!! Hope you do a detailed video some day on how you wash your fleeces - of all the different types. Do you sort locks before hand?
Hi there😊❤, so glad you had a great time in WI. I wish I would have gone back on Saturday. I managed not to buy a fleece, kind of wish I would have. I haven’t been able to get the hang (pun intended) of a supported spindle. I love all my spindles, but that one is not coming naturally to me.
There will always be another festival to but a fleece. I hope I get to see you next time. You are such a joyful beautiful soul. 🤗
I need to get up to Jefferson next fall. Been to long.
Handspun MKAL shawl will to be gorgeous. Are you on Instagram? I’d love to follow your progress.
1st time here. I'm still clue one of Twist and turns 😮
I like the orange that came with SW kit, looks like a growing flame-id call it Ignite!!
The other seems to not be as eye catching???
Love your treasures, I sin on treedle and e-spinnner. I can't seem to get the hang of spindles. Physical limitations 😕 I'll be back! Subscribed!!
Thanks for stopping by Maribeth! I am going with the orange in the kit. I agree it really make the colors exciting.
Whenever I see your thumbnail, at first glance I see mashed potatoes!
I love watching your videos while I work. I bought a drop spindle I need to find someone to do a zoom. Do you know anyone or would you do that?
Isnt Pru yarns great? I have ordered directly from them before :D
The colors are so rich! Won’t be my first time using their fabulous color ways I am sure. Thanks for watching. 🤗
do you have a favorite resource (online or otherwise) to learn how to use supported spindles? thank you!
Take care,
Lisa
So happy to see you back ❤ thanks for all the videos of the shows.. I have a question for you about drop spindles . Could we chat somewhere on Instagram or something. I would like to pick your brain lol.
Feel free to DM me on Instagram. I’m thesoulfulspinner there!
