@@pangrac1 I see some motor journalists mentions it also prevents motion sickness for passengers. As in EV's the absent of sound related to speed change messes more with the mind to induce motion sickness then if you have a engine sound giving one more input to the brain. And it's not so helpful for the driver, as he already getting the feedback in form of applying pedal. -Make sense I think.
Great review. Bjorn has a good sense of humour yet is very considerate to us viewers when he keeps silence time from time to let us hear what this car sounds really like. So far I haven't seen that in other iX reviews - the reviewers just assume that the car is so silent that there's nothing to hear there.
I drove the iX recently I was really impressed by how smooth and high quality it felt. Good charging curve too. I didn’t experience the lag with the navigation like that though
Dear Bjorn, too aggressive driving at high speeds, please no light flashing anymore, those times are gone even in Germany (some drivers and right so, won't let you pass when you do that and the police would kick your ass (they sometimes drive in regular cars)) ... last Country in the world where you are able to drive fast, but show some respect please. Cheers and no offense
13:06 he's leaving space for the car on the Beschleunigungsspur to enter the Autobahn. Decent driving indeed, but I guess you noticed but didn't want to make your comment overly verbose.
The 360 camera is so cool. The fact you can look at the car remotely from a app is so cool. Wonder why Tesla with all its cameras can’t do this? Come on Elon! But the Germans I think certainly are coming out with the best EV’s now
Don't push it on the Autobahn. These cars in front of you are usually in the same situation as you and capable of going faster. At 160kmh they not just simply move over for you while overtaking a rather long and drawn out column to the right. Relax
The number of bug splats on the windscreen have any correlation to the drag of a car? On the model s I only really get them on the front licence plate.
Depends on kind of the area you are driving (for instance deserts or highly intensive agriculture areas don't have many bugs), season (winter vs summer), time of day, temperature, how big the wind shield/plate is (this is an SUV, so it is a much bigger area and it is more vertical, too, so they cannot slip too much) etc. Plus, I have a feeling that not too many bugs fly that low to the ground, if you compare it to the license plate.
Sound reminds me of city commuter train. I'd switch it off too. Would much prefer the actual wind up sound of the motors. That's what it's like in Teslas right?
IMHO is not just the petrolheads... having a noise as a subconscious indicator of the speed is extremely useful. Specially with EV's and how quickly they gain speed.
After driving 500k km electric since 2013, I disagree with you. You have motion sensors in your body which can register movement. No need to have sounds.
@@bjornnyland You probably agree that this is something very personal. Not everyone has the same level of awareness when driving, and the personal sensitive overall preferred experience might change from user to user. It does not have to do, necessarily, with being a petrolhead or not. And.. on top of that is there anything cooler than a Taycan sounding as if it was going into hyperspace? :-)
That is the best electric fake "motor"sound I have heard. I don't need fake motorsound, but I think this is the best one yet, many of the other car brands have made the sound too spacey and UFO like! :P

Agreed, if they want to plug sound through the speakers all they should do is amplify that of the motors not come up with some weird engineered fake sound.
Presumably the car has some ninja noise cancelling software working on the speakers... If so I would love that on my Tesla Model X, as it can be too noisy at high speed.
US spec now for iX50 is $83K and ready for preorder. Rated 300 miles EPA. I think Model X LR (which is its true competitor) starts at $95K off the top of my head. X will be available next summer (if ordered today based on Tesla configurator) and this also BMW says will be 2022 summer in the US. The thing is this will qualify for $7500 federal tax break. So, it will be cheaper in the base form but X beats it in performance, range, and SC availability at the minimum. But for some people, the difference of almost $20K might be a deciding factor to get this instead of new refreshed X. Model S is in a different class and not too many people will cross shop SUV with Sedan.
We need to wait for Merc product to compare, Merc will be an f class of cars, eqg is boxy , maybe in the segment e, bmw gonna be best , probably we would not see Cadillac in Europe. We need to wait for new x and fat e tron as well, maybe there is an option of eqe SUV ,
those left lane huggers, especially when they can't get past 200kmh... 😎 people could be waiting behind that oversize i3 (Autogefuhl said you could be overtaken by a Caravelle TDi)
The only EV with a decent fake engine sound is the Taycan which sounds like the actual motors but beefed up. The ones on this BMW seem completely unrelated to what’s happening in the drivetrain. It’s just fantasy.
For comsumption I can tell you. I just looked at a real life test on another TH-cam channel and this mastodonte consumes 29 KWh per 100 km at 130 km/h stabilized in the best possible conditions (sunny, no wind, warm temp, flat highway). This iX eats power like a pig. As a reminder the TMY is at 19-20 KWh in the same real conditions. In other words this BMW iX consumes 50%+ more than a TMY !!! If BMW keeps designing electric cars along this vein they'll end up putting on the road EVs that generate more CO2 than a fossil vehicule (especially in countries where the electrivity mix is highly carbonated). Non sense....
Incorrect. It's allowed and perfectly accepted as long as you do it from a safe distance. Flashing while tail gating is *not* accepted and also illegal.
@@bjornnyland That is correct (§5 STVO Abs 5) as long as you keep your distance, but you are about 30-40m away when you flash your light (measured with the lines on the Autobahn (6m) long), hence you are too close. Nothing about the X5 leads me to believe that it is more refined and a joy to drive vs say a 2012 BMW I6 n/a X3. Say a 2013 supercharged V6 Q5.
