A little sum up of German roads:
Bundesstraße = paid and maintained by the country (Deutschland/Germany).
Sometimes highway-like.
Letter B in front.
Autobahn = Like Bundesstraße but it's a highway.
Letter A in front.
Landstraße = paid and maintained by the federal state (e.g. Bayern/Bavaria).
Letter L in front.
Kreisstraße = paid and maintained by the rural district. (e.g. Dingolfing-Landau).
Letter K in front.
Good and correct overview. But everything below Bundesstraße is called Landstraße by the people, except you work in street administration office 😅
Danke.
Correct, only that Bundesstraße (and possibly even other types) can be built as highways aswell, which in this case translate to at least two lanes per direction and directions seperated by guard railings - plus no street crossings on the same level. Even on Bundesstraßen with four lanes (total) and seperation, there's no speed limit, unless signs tell otherwise - which in most cases they do (on 4 lane Bundesstraße), in some cases higher than 100 km/h though, e.g. 120 km/h.
@@OenkePoenke And trucks have to pay toll on Bundesstraße 🙃
That's why there are those blue traffic control towers.
... and in Bavaria, the "L" becomes a "St"...
It's the electrically excited synchronous motor (EESM). Induction motors are asynchronous. This type of motor will be in more EVs in the future since they cause less environmental harm than PMS and they are cheaper to make. When not active they have very little drag like the induction motors so they are good for AWD. Mahle's EEMS motor has 97% peak efficiency.
Renault already use this technology since ages in the Zoe.
effiziency is higher buts it's less powerful and you can't overpower it like an asynchron motor.
How is it cheaper, are the magnets that expensive
@@ReelyRacing Yes, and the problem is the availability of these magnets in the future. This EESM design is actually one of the oldest AC motor designs, same as induction/asynchronous motor.
@@LambdaWave84 but BMW made it into a very high performance and super high efficiency motor where the brushes last for 300.000km
15:44 Things humanity has yet to solve: Fusion nuclear reactors, flying cars and non-laggy automaker infotainment screens
That's why you pick an infotainment system not made by a automaker... Like googles system in the Polestar 2. In terms of lag it's the only one better than Teslas at the moment.
the best thing about driving that car ?? you don't see the grill
and will BMW let Bjorn do the 1000km challenge
@@888johnmac I think it is because I'm Chinese or something but I actually really like the grill and my mom also likes it so maybe they designed it that way to sell more cars in china because BMW is not stupid, there is a reason why they designed it this way. In this case, it is maybe to pleasure the Chinese market
@@Keoponloeu I think you are correct. It's made for the asian market - sadly not the same taste in design here in Europe.
@@fthyme87 Sadly?
20:16 They do not stop for pedestrian because there is no "zebra" on the road surface. That is one of three kinds of crossing in Germany.
20:28 There is next one with lights where you stop if light is red. You must stop when pedestrian is aproaching zebra crossing. These are quite rare in Germany.
If someone in Germany is riding his bicycle and uses a zebra crossing for crossing a road, feel free to run him over. Follow the locals for the win!
@@nasenmann2011 ok, next time I get off the bike and walk across the Zebra. Takes much longer..... but if you want it that way. 🤷♂️
It's not just the German Highlands. You started on the Obersalzberg where Hitler had his alpine fortress. At 5:40 you drive past the hotel "zum Türken" and immediately after the left bend a narrow path goes into the forest. There you can still see the retaining walls of the Berghof.
There must be a glitch in the notification system on YT. I only got notified for part 2 of the Ix test and then had to manually search for part 1. How strange..
Maybe too many videos posted on the same time. The beauty of embargo...
you tube is very strange at times
Laggy Infotainment in 2021 in a 100k car is not acceptable
Agreed. Probably to do with the chip shortage. To render a zoomed out map needs loads of ram and processing power. Those are expensive, and hard to come by ATM.
I have used the infotainment in the iX. It's really snappy. Even the map was fast when I used it. I think this is either not on the final software version or there was just really poor network connection which can happen in Germany
@@MadDaCube Happy to know. Yes, could be just a bad signal and problem downloading the data then
The main difference between Landstraße and Bundesstraße is, that Bundesstraße is owned by the Federal Republic (like Autobahn) and Landstraße is owned by the county or state. There is no general difference in size. You can see where you are driving if you look at the signs: They are yellow with black frame.
And they are named with "B" followed by a number (so like Autobahn, but Autobahn is blue and the names start with "A").
Other facts:
If the Bundesstraße has minimum two lanes in each direction and those are separated by a barrier you are free to drive like on the Autobahn (unfortunately in the most places they have speed limits).
For trucks there is also a big difference: They have to pay toll on Bundesstraße (like on Autobahn).
In Germany you have to stop for pedestrians only at crosswalks marked with stripes on the ground.
You have to let the bus enter the road from a marked bus stop and stop if necessary regardless of the speed limit. The fine for non-compliance with this rule is incredibly high as high fines are german standard! (5 euros)
4:47 the sound of the door closing doesn't sounds terrible. It sounds like a rattle instead of a firm thump. Not good for base price of $83k.
Is there going to be a BLACK FRIDAY special limited edition STORMBERG Bjorn JACKET coming on sale?
10:45 Norwegian music starts to play when anorwegian drives the car :D
Ah ha!
Needless to say
That remote view feature is a great idea but the execution is poor. takes way too long and max 3 times in 2 hours? wtf, why!
An educated guess would be because it uses too much data. BMW has to partner with a mobile carrier in order to connect to the cars via 4G or 5G, and there are usage limits on these contracts.
@@iserlohn They could do the image stitching and processing in the car and send only the resulting couple of kB to the app if they were competent.
@@w0ttheh3ll competent 🤣🤣
10:35
When Ah-Ha started playing 🤣🤣🤣
2021 and not able to have a smooth map display?
BMW i3 does also show negative consumption, which is nice ^_^
Some time in the near future the top part of the bimmer kidneys will block your view and the bottom part will scrape the tarmac. 😂
A-Ha is the first in your Apple Music Library! 😅 Thats why it started in my BMW i3 while using carplay.
Björn: "Alien technology"
.. continues to use turn indicators in a BMW.. :-D
9:50 - 11:00 the amount of times he got interrupted when trying to talk about the car showing amount of energy recuperated. 😄
Bjorn driving a few meters from my home in Berchtesgaden and I didn’t notice. Damn. 😅 If I had the money the iX would be the right family car in addition to my i3 🚀
How are car makers unable to make a smooth infotainment system in late 2021 on a $100k car is beyond me.. These days, $200 android phones can run navigation perfectly smooth, this is beyond me. Are they putting old/slow chips for the infotainment or their software team is bad? Maybe they should base their system on android (like Polestar I think) if they can't make it smooth themselves. This navigation is almost unusable.
The music started playing because of your hand gesture in front of the screen.
Forget about the car... look at the opening view from @24:47!
Nice! This one has the optional indicator pack fitted
Thanx for this Ninja study . No kidding, thats official name when BMW gets ppl from the street (including car newbies) and ask them to do something without showing them help etc... to make sure system is intuitive enough... developers are watching this so they are not detached from reality ;). There is newer navigation which will be much faster /better in the works .. (Btw will show your video to somebody regarding that "missing turning potential due to lagged UI" as example what we got right in new system) Thanx again for your unbiased videos
I am amazed by the silence.
Smooth, silent, and souless! Everyone hang onto your BMW X6 Ms!
23:15 they are crossing the solid line, which is definitely forbidden. But you don’t have to let the bus in. Nevertheless the bus driver will pull in anyways if you would try to pass as the third or fourth car.
so was it a down elevation, to get more km out of the car?!
Front interior reminds me of the BMW i3.
Perhaps BMW is using ferrite magnets? They do not use RE elements. The gen 2 Chevrolet Volt used ferrite magnets for one of two PM motors to save RE cost.
Small thing, and nothing to do with the fact that it's an EV, but the steering wheel design makes it look as though it's on upside down to my eyes.
It may look like that to your eyes. To mine it looks like someone’s hammered it out of shape.
i like the dash... pretty well proportioned
"Take on me" surprise tune funny take deserves a thumbs up!
probably because of the hand gesture function
2:00 that camera makes the ix next to it look like a monster truck
You are the best. No other man can do such a real life and honest review and representations! All the rest youtubers are so fake
Soo what were you saying about many cars showing recuperation? Does this one? :D
Only problem I have with EVs is they keep insisting on putting glass roofs on all of them and weirdly shaped steering wheels.
It's because that way, you get slightly more space for tall persons... 😊
10:36 The car saw hand gestures. (Should have been palm-fist-palm, but close enough. :D )
Good video as always! BUT what are the technical specs and kWh consumption of this BMW? Key parameters to know to compare this car with others, isn't it? Keep the videos coming you do a GREAT and for the EV community VERY VALUABLE job!
I'd love to have the live view feature in my Tesla. To bei able to actually see what triggered a sentry alert would be so awesome.
But that 3d view is shit though. A burger would be in an out while you were loading the view. Would be so much more practical if they showed the raw footage. Like security cameras for homes.
20:15 There's no crosswalk, so you're not obliged to stop :)
Thanks for the impressions. I'm not interested in BMW cars, but your thoughts and judgments are still insightful.
Music was activated by gesture control.
Is the view out the front window rather restricted when compared to other cars? I have an i3, and when testing a 3 series car I realized I missed the big windscreen from the i3.
Where did you film this video? Which part of Germany is it? Looks beautiful.
Berchtesgaden. To be precise, he starts on the Obersalzberg, where Adolf Hitler had his alpine fortress. At 5:40 Björn drives past the Hotel zum Türken and immediately after the left turn a narrow path goes into the forest. There you can still see the retaining walls of the Berghof. You can also take the bus from there to the Kehlsteinhaus, known in English as the Eagle's Nest. It's beautiful up there. 🤩🤩🤩
@@Chironimo100 Thanks for your answer. I've been in many places in Germany, but never visited the southeastern part. It looks amazing, I'll have to give it a visit next time.
@@iRazor yeah Berchtesgaden is awsome. You also have to visit the Königssee, the Kingslake. 🤩🤩🤩🤩
@@iRazor th-cam.com/video/n63u-iHggSA/w-d-xo.html
that steering wheel is really hideous
"Bravo" is also German, You were right.
Not only Tesla but VW ID3 also shows negative consumption.
The car noticed that you are norwegian and played A-ha. ;)
looks like a dope car dope ev
thanx for the video - I'm looking forward to get my Tesla Model Y next year - MADE IN GERMANY ;-)
The steering wheel is built in upside down… that kind of triggers me!
When will you test the Mg Marvel R?
Why can't the germans get car software right? This 3d remote view app seems like a really clunky mess. It has to connect to servers to get the 3d view when you're connected. It seems pretty basic as well, no depth estimation and reprojection?
It perhaps uses Google Earth or whatever the thing for augmented reality. Plus, perhaps, its own cameras' views. So for something, it needs to contact the server - I guess for google street or something.
anither difference between Bundesstraße and Landstraße is who pays for it.
Basically the Bundesstraße is payed for (building and maintaining the road) from the federal government and the "Land" (country, but weird to say since germany isnt as big as the US but ohh well) has no say in basically anthing that concerns the road. Speedlimits / no overtake zones etc. is mandated by the federal government.
meanwhile the Landstraße is governed and payed for by the respective "Land" where the road is located in.
In normal german speech those 2 words frequently get used interchangeably because its the exact same class of road and every base rule that isnt clarified by signs (like the nominal speed limit of 100 km/h) is the same between those 2 types.
10:00 When Bjorn was approaching other fossil cars I was wondering if he knows how to use only internal air circulation. It seems that would be good idea. ;)
Can’t get past the ugliness. Owned BMWs since 1987, current one is the last. Know five others that have dumped BMW, from 1 series owners thru to 7 series repeat buyers. BMW may want the Chinese market. But this is a disaster.
That front... WTF??? Also such a weird place for seat adjustment buttons. I was a BMW guy but now I can't tolerate it anymore.
Fantastic BMW
If the motor is not an induction motor and doesn't contain permanent magnets it could be an externally excited synchronous motor like Mahle is promoting.
It is :)
20:16 you don't need to stop for pedestrians, if there's no zebra crossing (if there is, you have to, still assholes ofthen don't stop though). But you may always choose to be a nice person and stop anyway, if it doesn't provoke trouble and you notice in time. So don't go with the rude locals here 😃
23:12 not sure about how it's regulated outside cities, but inside you have to yield for the bus (and I do outside aswell, if I notice and speed diff isn't too high - even if a bus comes from a side street without right of way*). But in this case the car in front of you clearly overtook illegally, as he crossed the hatched area, which you may never do (except you'd be stuck otherwise or to make way for a police car or ambulance of course).
*I'm not an angel, sometimes I'm an asshole aswell
just let people cross at any intersection...
Negative and consumption are opposite words
Byggy German car software, as usual.. Why am I not surprised
Long gone are the times when BMW used to make some of the best looking cars on the road. This one is ugly from every angle!
its designed to appeal the asian market
The ASMR part 😂
Another great video, thanks!
@25:12 thank me later. Joke aside, the car is a beauty and perfection when you test drive. completely different world from fotos/videos. feels like a perfect spaceship
Looks like very indirect steering in the driving impressions
The door closing sound is...well...sounds cheap O_o
FFS BMW, how difficult is it to make a smooth UI in 2021?? Unbelievable!
Why don't you use Android Auto?
gesture control startet the music.. dooh :p hehe
18:40 They blink left because it is forbidden to overtake car on the same lane when he is signaling change of lane.
0:58 - door closing sounds cheap
Hmm, a “slow clap” is usually a sarcastic gesture…
The 360° APP view I had already on my 540ix some years ago. One of the most useless tools you can have. It’s great to show to friends, but any use case is not given. It’s not like Tesla‘s system which starts automatically when someone gets closer to your car or even bump it. It’s amazing that this old (non) feature is still shown as „feature“.
The limitations in using car cameras to take pictures iare likely to prevent using this feature to snoop on people. If you've had a live view of the inside or outside of the car, you could park it somewhere and use it as a remote camera (either your own or someone else's), or spy on someone who's in the car.
The limitations have likely something to do with BMW not being a mobile carrier.
Car looks like it has braces on LOL
doesn't the NDA last to October 13th?
That's for i4. Embargo for iX was just now.
@@bjornnyland ohh makes sense!
BMW lung grille = 🐽
The iX has a nice interior imo but the exterior design is so bad I wouldn’t buy it for half the price.
hahaha the blinking-annoyance popped up again (18:24) 😂
I will keep my current refrigerator. Thank you very much. It's a product design not car design. Completely static. Cars are not simple devices. They suppose to ignite emotion, movement a connection. Older BMW-DNA is full of that. Sadly being new and different can't override timeless basic design rules.
The remote requests limitation is due to 12V battery consumption, I believe.
At least that is the reasoning for my PHEV Formentor.
It's kinda pointless to power these features from the 12V when you have a bigger battery on the car, but yeah.. at least they could have charged the 12V from the main battery if needed and SOC available.. but I don't know why they didn't bother 🤷🏻♂️
You have a very good joke/km rate in this video Bjørn, I think maybe 0.5 jokes per km. One must contrast with Jan the Swedish guy with his 1966 Chevy Impala EV conversion [Bjørn's video th-cam.com/video/8McUViPbh6M/w-d-xo.html ] who seems to have a negative joke rate as Bjørn had to "regenerate" laughs in the guy at 0.0001L/km.
I absolutely identify with the German jokes, I do exactly the same (I'm British and have spent a lot of time driving in Germany in my German fossil camper). SCHNELL!! and ACHTUNG!! are my particular favourites and UMLEITUNG --> is very popular in the summer and of course SCHEISSE!! is the daily regular, as is Bratwurst mit Pommes und Knoblauchmayonnaise (no capitals when politely ordering & only say bitte "please" on receiving the food, don't ask why because ich spreche kein deutsch). As I am fuelled by alcohol in the evenings, probably at a 10 x Asian rate, then of course ein dunkles Weizenbier must also feature at 1.5ph 😄
As a consumer of Tesla Bjørn content I think my averge laugh production is at least 0.2L/minute 🙂 and maybe higher with any German references which must be the weltführend benchmark (although the joke micro-region of Hazzard County, Georgia, USA is an outlier as SHE-EET! also applies to data tables).
Tesla Bjørn is the best EV content, definitely premium class! 👍 And I think for Wifey Bjørn must be the Loius Vuitton of husbands 🙂
Tesla Model X competes with this, Model Y definitely not.
Found it
3d view is OLD ! My 2018 M5 has it LOL
Cool car
These kindney grills are just ugly.. even my bmw friends think the same way.. who knows why they have them
This must be the ugliest car since pontiac aztec, it has 5different "designlanguages" and they dont mix together either, as guigiaro or pininfarina said about a triumph : oh no, they did it to both sides
The door closing sounded like a 1983 vw jetta
Will this one age well? Asking for a friend …
Schönes Bus Lenkrad 😅
The laggy remote camera, I can deal with. But the laggy infotainment in a car of this price is just awful. Also, this really needs a sportier three-spoke steering wheel. Oh and a completely redesigned exterior of course 😅
Придётся название канала поменять на " 100 Ватт и 100 м² "
😃

Very snart if BMW to let you drive down a hill.
Too big, too expensive, too ugly, too heavy, unefficient... BMW didn't seem to have understand what is a good EV.
