I’ve been taking Ashwagandha supplements for over 4 years now, 400 mg daily in the morning. I noticed a marked improvement in my chronic anxiety with this dose. It’s good to know there are other potential benefits as noted in the video. I am 71 years old and otherwise healthy but suffer from mild atherosclerosis. I took antidepressants for a number of years and I attribute my cardiovascular disease at least in part to stress, along with being overweight and pre diabetic, which I have corrected using a low carb diet and exercise.
@@LeonidKimMDI have tried Ashwaganda with minimal effects and I believe I generally have high cortisol levels. after a lot of other research I found another adaptogen called seriphos which is a proprietary form of phospholated serine and along with magnesium found it to be significantly more effective in lowering stress/anxiety levels and measurably improves sleep. I use a sleep tracking device and I have determined that it increases the quality of my sleep significantly more than ahswaganda. I think it's very underrated as far as adaptogen go as Ashwaganda gets all the hype, although I think that has some cult following and many of the Amazon reviews seem to mention that it was their doctor recommending it to them. more recently I quit caffeine completely after many years of needing 0.5 or more a day to be productive and found that anxiety has dropped much further.
I've been battling with general anxiety disorder and ADHD since forever. I am 38 years old male now, married with two kids. I took SSRI (Zoloft) for 23 years to battle my anxiety (general anxiety often perpetuated by my ADHD thought processing). It helped but numbed me down, I got "flat emotions", indifference, apathy and sexual problems as well. Wellbutrin add-on was beneficial for the sexual problems but it didn't take away the emotional flatness. Later on, I was diagnosed with ADHD (with out hyperactivity) and started vyvanse (a live safer, but needs to be cycled right in order to avoid tolerance). I have now weaned off the SSRI, but the withdrawal was horrible. I stumbled off on aswandganda and it made my weaning off 1000x more tolerable. I am now SSRI-free is since 1 year, and I take 500 mg aswandganda extract each day. Couldn't be more happier. So 500 mg aswandganda, 150 mg wellbutrin and 50 mg vyvanse (one day per week I dont take, due to avoiding tolerance, during summer vacation I also skip vyvanse) is a very stableing protocol for me against ADHD symptoms and anxiety.
Ashwagandha has been an integral part of Ayurveda(ancient Indian medicine) since thousands of years, Glad to see modern science is also looking to the benefits of Ashwagandha

@@iqtidarbaig8532 I am uncertain. I cap my own ashwanganda into 00 capsules, and take 2 per day. If I don’t back off every 4 weeks or so, I would continue to need more. At some point I thought that the way is touse the least amount of herbs... but how I changed my mind. I see great results cycling them in a special way. Get 20 different herbs, and take 2 of them each day, rotate them so that you have something cor every day but each herb is only taken once every 10 days. This way you will minizme tolerance and maximize benefits.
I just started taking this a week ago. I suffer from anxiety and always have high stress levels. I started working out about a year ago and I still have anxiety issues. So when I started taking ashwagandha I found my stress and anxiety has gone down to near zero. The underlining anxiety i always feel is gone. I been in SSRIs and nothing works as well as this stuff does. Im actually pretty upset with the medical establishment for hiding this from me. I thought there was no hope. My doctors just want to pump me full of drugs and its sad tbh.
I've used it to improve my sleep, while I don't necessarily sleep more the sleep I get is definitely better quality. You can pair it with rhodiola as well. It's also important to get a good organic quality Ashwagandha. Cheers🎉
Hi, my name is Judy and I am highly insomniac I get a rush from being insomniac. Actually, I come alive from 9p til 5a, until I found this... It really does a great job on my sleep ❣️😊
I sleep like a baby after 30 days on ashwagandha, 9 hours of pure baby sleep every night. I usually wake up really early and never was a big sleeper. I don't feel sleepy during the day, I just sleep well.
L-theanine completely eradicated the sleep paralysis I’ve had about 4 nights a week for the last decade, and also my sleep walking & night terrors that I experienced a few nights a year. Ashwaganda (specifically ksm-66) helped me stop binge eating once I increased my dosage to 300 mg twice daily. Oh, and the ashwaganda helped me stay asleep for at least 7-8 hours a night as opposed to the 3-6 hours I was getting a night. I came to this conclusion because I tested the L-theanine and ashwaganda several weeks apart before deciding to take both of them together. Love it. Personally, I take Nature’s Bounty. A 45 day supply is around $16 at Walmart. No need for expensive ksm-66 ashwaganda. As long as the back of label shows ksm-66, you can rest assured the cheap stuff is going to work as well as the expensive stuff. And yes, I’ve taken expensive ashwaganda that said ksm-66. There was no difference in benefits.
I hope the l-Theanine you use is the Suntheanine. It is the best, the regular l-Theanine is inexpensive, cheap & not the best by far.. Google and learn, thank you. Joseph. Oh for sleep you can add a dab of castor oil on each eye lid 30 min., before bed or take a chamomile tea bag (not used) and inhale 10 times per each nostril. Last inexpensive thing is Essential oil, called: Good Night Oil, take 1 Tsp of water (in any little cap or small plate) and 2 drops of essential oil, mix, then apply a little on each wrist and a dab on you nose (bridge) that way you can inhale that and sleep. If anyone has mental illness I may be able to help. No fee at all.
I am only replying to your query Regarding Panic Attacks as I do know from my own past history of having them . The Panic attacks I experienced were horrible , thought I was going to die of heart attack I was scared to breath properly really scary lasted hours on end for years it went on . Until one day I saw a stand in psychiatrist at my appointment THANK GOD not the same one I’d seen for over 2 yrs , (I’d been on anti depressants the whole time seeing that one ) but the stand in said to me THERE WAS NOT ONE PERSON EVER IN THE WORLD TO DIE OF A PANIC ATTACK NOT A SINGLE CASE EVER 😳 !! Then she told me WHEN YOU EXPERIENCE ANOTHER PANIC ATTACK …….. JUST CONCENTRATE ON YOUR BREATHING NOTHING ELSE BUT YOUR BREATHING AND ALL TJE PANIC ATTACK SYMPTOMS WILL STOP HAPPENING !!! The panic attacks will be over very quickly AND SHE WAS RIGHT !! It’s all down to the breathing going off track that caused my symptoms to escalate . After that woman told me I wasn’t going to die during a panic attack I only had one episode which lasted a few minutes . I focused on my breathing deep breath in slowy breathing out . IN TEN YEARS IVE NEVER HAD ANOTHER ONE TO DEAL WITH . I hope this helps you & anyone else & please share the info to help stop others having these horrible SYMPTOMS thank you . Oh I weaned off the anti depressants too 1 every other day for 2 wks then 1 every 2 days for 2 wks etc . GOD BLESS ALL
I was a bit skeptical to take it due to the warnings about potential stomach problems associated. I have taken it twice now and it helped me so much. I will continue to do a trial to see if it helps during my severe pms. No stomach problems so far.
There is significant research supporting the use of ashwagandha for thyroid problems, too. I took it for hypothyroidism, in conjunction with amla, and found profound benefits, even to the extent that my doctor reported that I no longer needed thyroid medication. However, when I later stopped taking ashwagandha my thyroid hormones became unbalanced again, although it took a period of several years to do so. Back on ashwagandha! The amla normalised cholesterol levels.
I had the same effect. 6 months on ashwandha normalized my thyroid. I had very mild hypothyroidism and was sensitive to thyroid meds (caused severe tachycardia). Ashwandha did the trick!
Withdrawal symptoms are considerable ,fantastic stuff provided one continues to take, indefinitely... You may disagree, but I speak from experience, and as many others have found.
I've been taking ashwaganda in the evening routine for a month. No side effects, but no benefits within the first three weeks either. Lately I noticed some mild improvements in my mood. I will continue and take a break after a month two, as I planned. I hope to see the results in the end.
Haven’t been able to get access to my stimulant medication prescription for ADHD and I took 300mgs of Goli ashwaganda gummies and it MASSIVELY helped with the withdrawal symptoms I was experiencing. The executive dysfunction I was experiencing is nearly gone so that’s pretty interesting. Purely anecdotal but I’m so grateful 😭
Was looking a natural way to cure my anxierty and tried it for 2 months. I sleep much better and i find that my anxiety tend to be tolerable and whenever i wake up i feel refreshed like i wanna do something beneficial everyday.
This was very, very helpful. Thank you Doctor. I started using a vegan tablet from of this herb 5 weeks ago after about two weeks, I noticed that I am more alert, have more energy and do not "cycle" in the middle of the night which is anxiety related. I haven't had any unpleasant side effects, I am happier, less stressed out and my libido is coming back. I am menopausal, and menopause has played havoc with my metabolism and my ability to sleep at night. Once I hit the 60 day mark, I will take a one month break and decide whether or not to continue to supplement. Other research I read too is that this herb is an adaptogen and a break from it is a good idea.
I was pretty excited about taking Ashwagandha when I quickly discovered it did actually help me getting to sleep. I have an organic powder that I’d drink as a tea (1/2 tsp) every night at the same time. It was approximately the 5th night shortly after drinking it, my BP went up and I got pretty bad lower abdominal cramping. While using the powder I didn’t need to take my antidepressant for sleep so I wouldn’t think there’d be a medication interaction. Maybe pill form is better digested and I should consider that. Thankfully the discomfort passed after about half an hour. It was concerning though.

I've been on A for 3 mos now and here's what I've found/experienced: 1) I noticed after only a few days that I stopped caring so much about what people think about me. This was a good thing because I had previously cared too much about how others might view me. 2) I also noticed, however, that at 1200 mg, I stopped "caring" a little too much; so much so that I lacked motivation to work and really had to push myself to get things done. Almost like a general feeling of apathy. I scaled back to 600 mg, and found a good "not caring" balance, i.e., regained my motivation to take care of business. 3) Despite "not caring," I still felt/feel as mentally sharp as ever, if not more so. 4) Whereas before, I woke almost every night at 3 am (sometimes could fall back to sleep; sometimes could not), now, I sleep through the night...pretty much every night. 5) Dreams are very interesting. Not better or worse, per se, just very different. It's like I go to a different world. And it's usually the same "different world" although the experiences, people, and surroundings are always different. 6) I haven't necessarily noticed an improvement in memory, but I have noticed an increased ability to remember more dreams and in greater detail, which might be "an improvement in memory"... 7) I've been on the same diet (keto) eating the same food for two years, and had been stuck at 152 lbs for the past 1.5 yrs (I'm actually trying to GAIN weight). After two mos on A, I gained SEVEN pounds...NOT fat but instead solid weight (good weight). 8) I recommended A to my cousin, and he called me a week later thanking me after having his "best sleep in years." So yeah, whether you're looking for better sleep, interesting dreams, to put some meat on your bones, or just to not give a crappity crap, A might be for you.

Those taking prescribed medicine need to cosult with Ayurvedic doctor as Ashwagandha might interact with a few chemicals and reduce the potency and impact of those medicine. Also one simple rule of Ayurvedic medicine is that you are NOT supposed to continue taking medicine non-stop. One has to give your body a break of 3-4 weeks so that the medicine does not lose its potency as regular intake reduces effect of the medicine. Body can heal itself give your body a break from those medicines.
Lets mention that significant does not mean strong effect. It means it is not because of chance. But it could be only a very marginal effect too. I am not sure what is with the graph about muscle damage, it looks like pre-workout had much bigger muscle damage, which does not sound logical. But the difference between the change in the two graph is very small. Probably important for a professional sporter but maybe not significant for average Joe.
People might misunderstand the research. When they don't find statistical significance in studies, it doesn't mean that the opposite is true, it is just that they can't find a clear signal on the effect of the substance. If the substance does have an effect, what research does is to improve the method they conduct the study so that the real signal can be detected easier. Anyway it is still good to know the scenarios that they found effects and those that they didn't.

How many "MD's" are really educated in the use of supplements and alternative/intragrative medicine ????? I suggested my sister take Tumeric with black pepper for her Parkinson's but she said she'd have to ask her doctor and he said no. My younger sister died just after turning 70 and was only diagnosed 8 years earlier.
Leonid Kim, dr. Livingood dr. Berg all did a lot of research on these different supplements, regular MD's and doctors never promoted anyting to me or even suggested it when I suggested it to them, and trying to tell people you might get one out of 10 that actually will listen to you , it's tough you can't help people, they rely on only on the doctors word, and they only prescribed prescription medications, do all your own research also knowledge is power
Doctors typically recccomend based on rich pools of data which form the evidence based treatments commonly prescribed. When someone has a serious condition the last thing an MD would want to do is gamble on something which has very little quality research associated with it. Compounds react with each other and may have contraindications not yet explored for one example. And may not be nearly as effective as available treatments.

So I got a couple questions. Are there any withdrawal symptoms from stopping. Is it found on drug tests if you are doing it for athletic purposes. And after using it for athletic purposes does the progress go away after you stop taking it. I am assuming your performance goes down too?
It is generalize it to a larger population, and the sample size does not create sampling bias. A smaller sample doesn't mean you can't generalize it, you can generalize if you have a representative sample, even if that sample is small.
A couple of questions:At what levels do you see anhedonia? Also, are the mg you discuss straight herb or extract? An extract of 15:1 600mg is 7200mg equivalent. Is that does safe?
Dr. Kim, it is good to see a MD discussing supplements such as this in a positive way with the supporting research. Instead of saying that it is a waste of money.
our weakness in western medicine is we neglect thousands of years of research and knowledge that comes from naturopathic treatments; i just hope to make sense of the best and evidence-based ways to treat patients, and bridge the gap; there’s snake oil salesmen on both sides, so sometimes it’s hard to sift through the noise
Appreciate you, Dr. Kim for the same reasons. Many US allopathic Drs dismiss out of hand what they haven't been trained in and I appreciate your acknowledgement of 100's of years of research, effective use, and history in other countries. I have a Dr who immediately dismisses anything he sees as Functional Medicine - says it's not at all valid, and it's sad because I have gotten great results with supplementation, results that he applauded, then when he found out what I was doing, was not too approving any more. It's sad, we need more allopathic drs like you!

I use a sleep tracking device and I have determined that it increases the quality of my sleep significantly more than ahswaganda.
I think it's very underrated as far as adaptogen go as Ashwaganda gets all the hype, although I think that has some cult following and many of the Amazon reviews seem to mention that it was their doctor recommending it to them.
more recently I quit caffeine completely after many years of needing 0.5 or more a day to be productive and found that anxiety has dropped much further.
thank you for sharing! I need to check out Seriphos; quality sleep is an underrated superpower and has so many health benefits
Me too. I have been using it for about two weeks and it has dramatically improved my state of anxiety.

I have taken citalopram for so long but I still have anxiety attacks I want to take Ashwagandha but afraid of interaction
My doctor recommended Ashwagandha 10 years ago for me and I have been taking it ever since for stress and anxiety management.

Does either lower bp? My bp is already low. Does it also help with physical panic attack symptoms?
Have you had consistent results? It doesn't start losing effect as you get used to it.? I take magnesium and L-theanine I want to add Ashwagandha
You ever check your liver enzymes?

I've been on A for 3 mos now and here's what I've found/experienced:
1) I noticed after only a few days that I stopped caring so much about what people think about me.
8) I recommended A to my cousin, and he called me a week later thanking me after having his "best sleep in years."
So yeah, whether you're looking for better sleep, interesting dreams, to put some meat on your bones, or just to not give a crappity crap, A might be for you.

Is there any research about side effects from sudden withdrawal from ashwaganda without tapering off?
Im a supplement freak kinda. WIth that in mind, i found a perfect mix for myself. 5g of creatine, 5g of glutamine and 660mg ashwagadha, and i mix it all into my protein shake. One has to give your body a break of 3-4 weeks so that the medicine does not lose its potency as regular intake reduces effect of the medicine. After analysing these types of video i realised that real life is in India (Himalayas) .. You have every thing natural by God
Great explanation and presentation!

It is generalize it to a larger population, and the sample size does not create sampling bias. A smaller sample doesn't mean you can't generalize it, you can generalize if you have a representative sample, even if that sample is small.

Thanks Mr. Doctor
Beautiful and scientific information. Live long....
Thanks alot for the great information subscribed and looking forward to future your videos
thank you!
Thank you very much sir. Your videos is so informative. We were suspicious about Ashwaghanda causing liver damage. Now we are enlightened about the benefits of Ashwaghanda without the adverse effects. Thank you again.
Can anyone please share a reputable brand for Ashwagandha. I have heard thst one should use Ashwagandha roots and not the leaf variety. Many thanks in advance
I just got Nootropics KSM-66 off Amazon. I just take 1 cap which is 300mg and my anxiety melts away. Blood pressure comes down also.
@@Tigerwolf291 thank you for reverting.
Anyone know why Ashwagandha gives me horrible heart palpitations? I really had high hopes for this supplement but I had to stop taking it because my heart was constantly "flip flopping" in my chest.
Mate I like the way you do your stuff. Well done I am a fan🎉
thank you for the kind words
