    Sevr's penetration benefit isn't going to be realized through uniform layers of cardboard. A narrower fixed head is obviously going to penetrate better in that situation.
    Where the Sevr has penetration benefit is in a situation where the blades can pivot around heavy bone. They are pretty clear about that on their website and other media.

    I’ve been a mechanical guy for years, and keep thinking about going to a fixed head, but I have never lost a deer because of shooting mechanicals, and believe the bigger cut has helped on a couple marginal hits. With a proper setup, quality mechanicals punch right through shoulder blades and penetrate deep! So if it ain’t broke…., no need to switch.

    Dude cardboard isn’t like hide... JK awesome I’m definitely switching from g5 to sevr this year for whitetail in Maine. Really like that you can practice with them without the blades opening.

    While using my tenpoint ive had every mechanical broadhead ive ever used go straight through a deer not sure i need more penetration, fixed blades dont compare with the accuracy of a mechanical , currently am using the trypan 100 grain with 450 grain bolts and they fly true to 60 yards i dont shoot any further than that typically wont shoot any further than 50 too many variables and i dont like an unpredictable kill shot, i keep it quick clean and efficient kill

    Good video. I've been using the Sevr and its performed well on deer, will likely continue using it for deer size gane. I am thinking about using a fixed head for an upcoming elk hunt. I was looking at the Montec I put one on an arrow the other day here at the house and it flew the same as my field points every shot, which surprised me. I know the fixed head will perform better on Elk other variables being equal.

      Thank you! Good luck on the elk hunt…..I really like the iron will solid for elk….blades are insane sharp I have heard the Montec can be hard to get sharp and stay sharp but I have very limited experience with them from years ago so they may have really improved.

    technically, the sevr and rage penetrated alot less than it looks, because i would measure it to where the blades are. where they actually stopped cutting. their extra little pokie at the end isn't actually doing anything in the animal.
    it was interesting to see that they both were pretty even.

    • @KTMsoldier1988
      @KTMsoldier1988 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the sevrs blades cut more cardboard than the rages blades did because the sevrs blades are closer to the tip of the broadhead. The tips may have stopped in the same place but the blades didnt.

      Sevr are legit. That’s the 2 inch the 1.5s got some serious penetration. They found a middle ground with 1.75s a few months ago as well! Bowmar bow hunting does some impressive tests with them. Through a car hood and through a Cape buffalo.

    I agree! I simply believe out of all the years I've bow hunted (51 years) to be exact, placement is key as you know! Place it in the boiler maker and they all work perfect! On the SEVR it would have been interesting to see how much the 1.5 penetrated? Anyway, the day of collapsible broadheads are here to stay only to get better as technology unfolds. I shoot SEVR and it has not disappointed me as of yet? This year (hopefully) I will test it out on a bull Elk????? Will post the results! Thanks for your time in comparing. It's all interesting..... Be safe and good hunting

    I would argue the sevr did better than both seeing it has a bigger cut than the fixed blade and the blades are located closer to the tip where on the rage they are close to the rear....so the sevrs blades cut more cardboard than the rages blades.

      I didn’t see it having “much better” and it is 1/2” smaller diameter so for sure it should….I really like that head but don’t like how those tabs cover up a good bit of the blades and we had a lot of them come out of the model with only one blade open….again I like the head a lot just feel like over all the Trypan is going to do me better for Whitetail hunting

    • @JoeMilesMWT

      Yes I have tested mechanical vs fixed heads for accuracy and for sure you can get fixed blade heads to fly true and accurate but in real hunting situations where there is wind and you can’t shoot with perfect form the mechanical really way outperform with accuracy

    I dont get why folks continue to mess with the sevr 2.0 heads. The 1.5s are the only sevrs that are consistent and worth using. Awsome penatration on the 1.5s. The 2.0s need to be scrapped.

      I've been using the 2.1 SEVRs and never had a problem! I will be using the 1.5 SEVR broadheads for Elk this year (125 grains) to punch through the Bull!!!!! Placement is total key to any of these heads. I saw a video on shooting a Cape buffalo in Africa with the 1.5 head and it penetrated over 12 inches more than enough to do damage and yes kill the animal!

  • @jeffdaniels4945
    @jeffdaniels4945 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The energy lost to a mechanical head will never be made up in cutting diameter if there is no energy left to push through. I switched to a Iron will this year and it’s the best change I have made to my heavy arrow setup.

    Iron will single bevel would have penetrated better then the wide.. plus when you shoot the mechanicals at an animal after one shoot they are pretty much done those blades are weak.. so paying more for a head that’s more durable should matter too.. also when the blade open on impact you lose a lot of kinetic energy.. also personally I have lost deer with rage after using them for 7 years I had them deflect on a slight quartering shot.. speed sells but penetrating is what kills
