  • This is a detailed video of how to diagnose and repair low oil pressure in a Dodge 5.9 Cummins. We go over, is it really low oil pressure in a Cummins, or is it a sending unit that makes it look like low oil pressure in a Cummins, or gauge, or something different? Don't drive your Cummins with low oil pressure. It will destroy your engine. Watch the video and fix the low oil pressure in your Cummins now.

    This repair worked, not because the oil bypass valve was replaced but because the oil pressure limit valve was, the aluminum housin of the piston was worn and possibly the piston itself, added to a possible spring wear, leaded to a iddle low oil pressure .

    My sending unit was replaced due to eratic oil pressure readings and now at warm idle it is where yours is reading at the end of the video. Thanks. Same engine setup.

    Thanks for the effort. You'll notice the set screw not far from the thermostat housing. If you remove that set screw, you can fill through the radiator and the air will leave the head through the set screw port. Much easier than removing the thermostat. Also, if you spray the engine compartment with purple power degreaser, then rinse with a hose, you will have a much cleaner work environment, and less stuff to get inside the engine and all over your hands. :)

    The bypass valve bypasses the FILTER if the filter gets clogged and protects the engine, if it's bypassing when it shouldn't, it won't show as a low oil pressure reading, though if the filter is clogged then you could have a bit lower pressure
    The relief valve seat being worn could be a problem on a lot of high mileage trucks

    Interesting but the brass valve you replaced is the oil filter bypass it opens if the filter gets plugged up or restricts the flow. It wont effect oil pressure it just bypasses the filter. The steel piston with the aluminum seat in the cover is the pressure relief valve replacing the cover fixed the leak past the valve and i guess more heat meant thinner oil and it leaked off more pressure. go buy a lottery ticket you lucked out. 99 times out of 100 its main or cam bearing clearances that cause the drop off of oil pressure when it warms up.

      It’s been a while since your comment but we have a ISL9
      It’s doing the same thing as this truck but it has just below 40k miles
      Think the bearings still the cause or should go for the oil cooler housing?

    Just replaced injectors on my 01 after getting a lot of fuel in the oil. Started her and she ran great, 60psi on dash at cold start. Once up to temp she was right below 40 cruising at 60mph and then at the stop light she was right above the lower left mark… truck had fresh t4 rotella in it and dipstick was good before starting. Parked her at the restaurant and came back out and checked oil level and she was below the limit by a lot. Friend thinks that after sitting for a month I drained out more than 3 gallons. Gonna hook up a gauge to the oil supply on the housing and check from there when she’s cold and warm. Hoping it’s just the sending unit maybe. Any suggestions?

    • @Glennfix
      @Glennfix  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it leaked oil while sitting it would be on the ground. Check the antifreeze Oil can mix with coolant. The oil has to be going somewhere. I don't know how many miles but bad rings can cause fuel to go in to the oil and burn a lot of oil.

  • @chriscollison3136
    @chriscollison3136 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another thing I meant to say is Power Driven diesel sells a oil pump from a 8.3 that’s been milled down to fit in the 5.9 block and flows 42% more oil! You would have to get he common rail pick up tube because it’s 1 inch and bigger than the gen 1 and 2!

    Injector copper washers is where the diesel will leak from and can cause higher level on the oil dipstick (Dilution) !! leaks can occur too from the diesel spill line over the injectors! This WILL cause oil dilution too ;)
