I did this mod to my 04 FXT. When I went to get it tuned my tuner pointed out that those rubber caps aren't pressure rated and recommended I use a couple worm clamps, a piece of reinforced hose, and a threated bolt instead of the rubber cap

Didn't understand a thing. What does oil warmer have to do with filter mount? Why does even Subaru bother to install an oil warmer at all? I've heard of oil coolers but never heard of warmers!
It warms the oil in the winter or when cold, it cools the oil when it gets to hot. It's basically an engine oil thermostat. It's job is to keep oil temp at a optimal temperature.
a few questions: 1: Do 04 FXT have an engine temp sensor? 2: Why not just run the 2 coolant lines together? wouldn't a plug remove some of the flow of the coolant and possibly cause issues? 3: If you remove this, can you just change your oil weight when cold temps come unto play? I live in CO and use my 04 XT to go snowboarding. On those cold days i dont want to sit in the parking lot and wait for oil temps to come up.
You should run the lines together as the caps cannot handle the extra pressure the turbo models create. If you are to change the oil at all it would be healthier to run 10w40 especially if you want to make power. If you are oem+ please keep it at 5w30

No, in fact I'm pretty sure the JDM STI's never had one, and I'm pretty sure later Model Year USDM STI's did not include them from the factory. Like communism, it seemed like a good idea at the time.
@@MrSubaru1387 JDM EJ205/255's do not come factory equipped with the oil cooler/warmer. I've done several swaps and none of the JDM's I've gotten came with them. I believe it's a USDM only thing
Just noticed my cooler on my 04 XT was leaky again and now thinking of doing this!! Question tho... would I need to install a cooler somehwere else? Like a radiator type cooler in the front?
You don't "NEED" to install an oil cooler unless you do some track day events or have a highly modified vehicle (larger than stock turbo or built motor).... I have an 04 XT with vf39 swap and all supporting goodies and decided to autoX mine for the first time this past summer and was watching oil temps and pressure very carefully because I have 250K miles on that vehicle and my temps didn't get as high at any point in the day as they do on my typical morning commute to work. The stock piece he removed is in fact an oil warmer, not an oil cooler, it helps to bring the oil up to the same temperature as the coolant as quickly as possible in order to help bring oil up to temp as quickly as possible ostensibly for engine longevity, but also I'm sure it has to do with emissions.

I'm not cody, but I don't mind putting in my .02..... the only reason to run an oil cooler is if you need it or just have more money than you know what to do with... If you have a built motor, larger than vf series turbo, and/or run track days or highway runs, then yes absolutely, but if none of those, imo you would be doing it for car art.
I have CNT EQL's and they are nearly touching my filter. His don't look like mine, but I think I would get the same result. Rather have no cooler/warmer vs the filter mm's away from the header
Seems counter intuitive to remove a coolant line that would seem to be needed. You could just by pass that and get a long hose even a steel braided one and use some clamps and still have the cooling your going to need. Unless the engine temps are not affected?
If I were to mount a oil cooler in front of the condenser, which side of the condenser should I mount it, passenger or driver side, so it least affects the ACs cooling ability??

@@Moglowww Yup. I don't run the metal coolant line (that always rots out) either when I am running the oil cooler/heater, just a piece of heater hose

@@aquapisces24 only if the cooling system has an issue. The oil is cooled by the engine coolant. Water to water cooler.

Deleted mine and added an koyo cooler up front with a thermostatic switch. Works great on track days here in the south.

Don't delete the oil cooler. Just replace the leaking $3 o-ring.

i remove them on a lot of builds found its cheap to buy rad mounted cooler and it works wayyy better then oil cooler/ warmer
