The leg warmers!!! I recently ordered some neon pink and green 💗 💚 lef warmers, they are not the same as mine in the 80's, but they are pretty close!!!
2023 bro, How's that goal of becoming Worlds Greatest Aerobics Champion? I see youtube videos like this and get inspitired for about 5 minutes in my chair also.
I graduated college in 1987. Yes we definitely did aerobics!!!! At my gym I did aerobics class, stair master, weights and mat work 3-4 times a week. It was much easier to be fit with a lean muscular body due to nutrition as well! Food was so much more healthy.
So I've been binge-watching these in chronological order...and wow is it weird to not hear Crystal Light anymore...also interesting to note the names of gyms that hadn't previously appeared.
Hands-Down, no one----NO ONE EVER----could top Joan Wenson! She was THE best ever. Here, & in the World Championships, she was awesome beyond words. ---------------WolfSky9
Joan Wenson is the one that stood out to me the most from the 1988 video, because of the way she mugged for the camera in the opening. In the 1989 opening she also stands out a lot in the crowd from her enthusiasm.
Reebok has been around since the end of the 50s and was a major sports band in the late 70s in the US. The 80s definitely made Reebok a household name and with aerobics especially!
Let me tell EVERYONE : 1. Joan Wenson was THE very best competitive aerobics performer of all-time. ---------THE best.-----------------2. Melanie Peck was a drop-dead knock-out!! -------------WolfSky9, 73 y/o
Brenda's Body Shop in Oakland, MD, is still going. Brenda still runs it. It amused me as Oakland is kind of a remote, dinky town in the far western part of the state (very pretty, though) and I didn't expect a top-class athlete to come from there. Got proved wrong and reminded me to not be a snob!
Such intensity, perfect execution and top sense of the show. Hard to believe but none of them are pro it seems... Just insane I watch several years and this 1989 edition is clearly the momentum of this competition
I wasn't there------this was held in GA -------Atlanta------but I think it helped stop the obvious bias toward SF Bay Area contestants. ----------------------------WolfSky9, 73 y/o

Aerobics is still out there but not as popular as before...it was quite the fitness trend for a while. I've read you can get the same results with HIIT in less time. These days it's more Zumba and pilates and other stuff. Intense aerobics like this has problems with repetitive motion injuries, overtraining, and athletes not having a high enough calorie intake to fuel all this movement to the point they pass out during routines. It might come back, stuff goes in and out of style.
13:19 my quads are burning, shins snapping just thinking about that hold with another human weighing over 100 lbs. All that and doing a crunch. I get destroyed by zerchers and front squats, but they seem like nothing compared to the intensity of these routines. Not sure why people are making fun of this competition. I'm all for the 80s and 90s glory
It's worth noting that 1990 was the last year they use the catchy theme song.
There were issues with Ty Parr's song; not sure what it was, but for whatever reason, his song was not used--or at least not as often. ----------WolfSky9
The issue just was they were out of the 80's and wanted to "modernize" the sound probably.
OMG, really? What did they use after that?
