I don't think this set really used its floorspace very effectively. The lawn and the sidewalk outside take up so much of the baseplate that should've been used to extend out the mansion itself for larger interiors. Even just 2-3 extra studs work of space to work with could've made a huge difference.
When sets dedicate a lot of space to exterior details like lawns or sidewalks, it can definitely feel like a missed opportunity, especially when the interior ends up feeling cramped. A set like a mansion should really maximize its floorspace to make the interiors feel spacious and functional, and a few extra studs could go a long way. Those little adjustments, like adding a couple of studs to the interior rooms, could’ve provided more room for detail or play features. It’s especially noticeable in sets where you expect grandeur or lots of space inside. It might look nice from the outside, but the inside is what you interact with most, so it should feel just as well thought out.
Yeah if they had done some more greenery out back that would've worked better, I get that the rest of the marvel series uses alleyways too but plenty of other modulars have had gardens out back.
At first glance I thought they were making a Lego Set of the Back to the Future Clock Tower, you put that with a small version of the DeLorean Time Machine. I would have bought that instantly!
Maybe not a perfect set, but looks pretty fantastic. I've not caved to buying a LEGO set this expensive before (plenty I've liked, but it's a lot of money for plastic bricks), but as a lifelong X-Men fan, I don't think I can resist this time.

The scale of this modular really really bugs me, the danger room is a damn closet. They should have made this 500 like avengers tower so they could actually fit a small x jet in there. Im sorry but if people are willing to spend 600$ on jabbas sail barge.. they will fork out 500 for a bigger x mansion

In the future when making these compromises, Lego should consider releasing official instructions where you could combine 2 of the set to address space issues that come up here and also w the sanctum.
I won't be getting this. I'm not a Lego Marvel collector or builder anyway, so I only get stuff that I think I could use by altering it. But... I don't know, to me it's missing something. It looks off and I think that's because they've went with a version of the mansion based on the cartoon. Because of that aesthetic, to me it feels 'flat and less detailed' when compared to other modulars (even previous Marvel ones). So it just doesn't feel like it has that usual higher modular standard. I don't care at all about these particular minifigures, so those aren't a draw for me either.
It is interesting to have a direct comparison between a licensed and non-licensed set like with the x-mansion and museum. Overall I think the value is fine but it could've done with a few more minifigures & maybe Scott's porsche from the series.
Wish Gambit had silver dualinjected legs with the print😢 but aside from that he's awesome, Iceman I love we finally got him but I hate that he's white, I feel like he should have been bright light blue... or aqua. Sick of so many Wolverines. Love Bishop hope we one day get a Cable and Forge one day!
Modulars are out of my budget, but I have have to make an exception for this one. The minifigure selection is excellent, though I could wish for Beast and Jubilee.
Interesting information. Personally, I'd really love you to cover sets when you have them in your studio. Previews are all well and good, but 14 mins of coverage without any hands-on experience could be a bit of a stretch.
its weird to hear praise for sanctum sanctorum, it suffered from being micro scale, with the second floor being the second and 3rd floor combined and the balconies being 2 studs wide. Lego cheaped out and shouldve just made a 4 floor building and a baseplate and a half. The Sanctum Sanctorum Moc's do a substantially better job than the official set, it was made worse considering they made a $500 hulk buster but couldn't make a $300-350 Sanctum Santorum that was properly scaled is beyond me and was a show that lego analytics team is out of touch with customer demand. It is also interesting to see lego going out of their way to make the botanical garden set not a modular and them also going out of their way to make X-Mansion a modular building, I really thing they couldve just made a stand alone building, I would be happy to see more detailed stand alone buildings like the botantical garden, old fishing store, haunted house etc. I think overall I think this is a great set and like every marvel modular except for Sanctum Santorum this will be a day one purchase.
Gambit is the best X-Men? Don't try to sneak that in there and say "Don't @ me". Wolverine/Storm/Cyclops/Nightcrawler will always be the one and only best X-Men. :) Thanks for the review. I do agree that the Sanctum Sanctorum is more pleasing to my eye but it also had a more iconic/unique look than the X-Men mansion so it is understandable.
From the outside it looks more like a city hall modular for a LEGO city, especially with the alley on the back. The X-Mansion was built on a large estate in New York so a large deck would've been more appropriate. The minifigures are the biggest disappointment here though. The selection with the Daily Bugle was great and were quality but this is seriously lacking for a $300+ set.
You are far too forgiving of those minifigures! Gambit’s leg printing is terrible! I mean the leg printing is specifically designed for dual molded legs and he has brown feet? He has dual molded legs in the Disney Special coming up, but not in the Lego set! Wolverine’s legs, just like in the Blackbird, look terrible with the yellow printed on blue. Scott should have yellow boots, and the leg printing all around is truly weak. But again, I love X-Men and am still excited to buy many of these in my quest to build the ultimate Xavier’s Institute for Gifted Youngsters. Love the videos mate

The set isn’t based off the animated series which the designers stated clearly. They took inspiration from it, yes, but it is a comic set. The addition of iceman was because they wanted to complete spiderman and his amazing friends since they couldn’t put him in the daily bugle

Straight off the bat, I have to disagree about this being “an absolute treat” for Lego Marvel fans. For X-Men fans this feels like “a hard slap in the face, followed by a swift kick to the nuts”. I’ve wanted a Lego X-Mansion since 1992, and after the first three Marvel modules this is a huge disappointment. Compared to 25 characters in the Bugle and 31 in the Avengers Tower, getting only 10 characters with lacklustre printing is… a joke? This is far too small and feels like an afterthought. “Quick there’s a new X-Men show, rush out a mansion, and here’s your budget. Make it work.” I always try to look on the bright side, but this one really feels purposely unimportant to Lego compared to Avengers sets. Hopefully in 10 years when the X-Men movies make loads of money, Lego’s interest will pique. It is nice to get some of the cute details in there, but honestly it’s just too small! They should have built it modularly so you can fit sets together like the new Harry Potter Castle. That way we could have much more focus on each room. Plus, having the Danger Room above ground negates the possibility of getting a sub basement later on. I’m not impressed. I’ll only buy 3! …on release day. I’m definitely looking forward to the UCS Version in years to come. Keep up the great work dude!
It makes sense that there is only 10 figures in the set. It seems like marvel Modular’s are going back and fourth with it. The bugle had 25, then the sanctum had (I think) 8, the tower had 31, and now the mansion has 10. I bet the next one will also have a high figure count but it seems like they’re fluctuating the amount of figures for these Modular’s but I’m not sure the reason
It’s happening more often, but today I look at many LEGO sets and their prices only to be left thinking, “What a horrible deal!” $500 for The Avengers Tower was steep but I looked at the set holistically and was okay with my purchase (size and minifigs were a selling point). BUT $330 for this…is…just…plain…OUTRAGEOUS imo!

Think it works better if you’ve already got a city of Modulars and other buildings to fit it into, but as a stand alone thing? When you compare this to the daily bugle, you realise how bad the mini-figure quality and quantity is… why is a perfect wolverine in a £3.50 blind bag, but a cheap version is tied to a near £300 set? Why is gambit shown as having dual molded legs in a video game, but the x mansion has a cheaper print version? It’s just annoying…
Because Lego has standards on what must be added to their sets and they decided how it must be done. Why don't they add the extra prints? It costs money, they need to mass produce them, and they won't spend it where they feel it's not needed.
@@jacobulbikas1016 that's a cop out; a premium price point should have premium contents - they can go cheaper on cheaper sets; dual molded legs are present in so many other themes, it's not like it's a new element. To compromise they could have added in other x-men but they cut back there too....
I’m a huge modular building fan and I would never buy this set, let alone display it with my modulars. In my opinion it’s overpriced, plain and somewhat childish
This set is quite a big disappointment for me : very small rooms, low ceilings, kind of "Friends/City" look. If you compare it to the Museum Modular : 3000 pieces instead of 4000, much smaller in height ad depth, very poor finish with low details. This is not as well executed as the Sanctum Sanctorum, wich looks nice in a modular City. This one will look weird near Modulars, I bet it ! I am not keen on the 97 series, I prefer the movies, so the minifig selction looks a bit weird to me, though aficionados will love it for sure. Let's not talk about the price, which is not justified even with the licence. This set will go on sale as soon as it is not exclusive anymore. Even at less than 200€ I will not buy it. Botanical Garden set will be muuch better...
Not a fan of this at all and won’t be buying. It looks very basic in design to me and the scale wrong. Imagine that next to other Modular’s, it’ll look weird.

It's a good looking set but I certainly don't like the back of it. I think making an alleyway totally ruins the feel of Charles' mansion.

As I understand it, it's the Danger Room, because there's only one layer of bricks the grey inside shows up on the back wall

Compared to 25 characters in the Bugle and 31 in the Avengers Tower, getting only 10 characters with lacklustre printing is… a joke?
This is far too small and feels like an afterthought. “Quick there’s a new X-Men show, rush out a mansion, and here’s your budget. Make it work.”
I always try to look on the bright side, but this one really feels purposely unimportant to Lego compared to Avengers sets. Hopefully in 10 years when the X-Men movies make loads of money, Lego’s interest will pique.
It is nice to get some of the cute details in there, but honestly it’s just too small!
They should have built it modularly so you can fit sets together like the new Harry Potter Castle.
That way we could have much more focus on each room.
Plus, having the Danger Room above ground negates the possibility of getting a sub basement later on.
I’m not impressed. I’ll only buy 3! …on release day.
I’m definitely looking forward to the UCS Version in years to come.

It makes sense that there is only 10 figures in the set. It seems like marvel Modular’s are going back and fourth with it. The bugle had 25, then the sanctum had (I think) 8, the tower had 31, and now the mansion has 10. I bet the next one will also have a high figure count but it seems like they’re fluctuating the amount of figures for these Modular’s but I’m not sure the reason

It’s happening more often, but today I look at many LEGO sets and their prices only to be left thinking, “What a horrible deal!” $500 for The Avengers Tower was steep but I looked at the set holistically and was okay with my purchase (size and minifigs were a selling point). BUT $330 for this…is…just…plain…OUTRAGEOUS imo!
Gorgeous? Wouldn’t go that far. It looks good and close to the source material, but it wouldn’t say gorgeous. Think it works better if you’ve already got a city of Modulars and other buildings to fit it into, but as a stand alone thing? I can see people buying this to MOC it into the BTTF Hill Valley court house and clock tower. Wouldn’t be too hard as they look quite close as it turns out 🤷

I mean that’s the whole reason they have picked RDJ to play Doctor Doom- just so they can reuse the Tony Stark heads as Doctor Doom (unmasked) heads! 😂
Yeah, I noticed the Hill Valley clock tower look to it as well, although the colour's not perfect for that...
@@brick_fanaticsand something you didn’t mention….the GWP for this. It’s a little cerebro diorama with another professor X minifigure. Styled after the film version of cerebro and Professor X (he has a more “normal” looking wheelchair than the floaty bright yellow one of the comics and tv show). 🤷
When you compare this to the daily bugle, you realise how bad the mini-figure quality and quantity is… why is a perfect wolverine in a £3.50 blind bag, but a cheap version is tied to a near £300 set? Why is gambit shown as having dual molded legs in a video game, but the x mansion has a cheaper print version? It’s just annoying…
Because Lego has standards on what must be added to their sets and they decided how it must be done. Why don't they add the extra prints? It costs money, they need to mass produce them, and they won't spend it where they feel it's not needed.
@@jacobulbikas1016 that's a cop out; a premium price point should have premium contents - they can go cheaper on cheaper sets; dual molded legs are present in so many other themes, it's not like it's a new element. To compromise they could have added in other x-men but they cut back there too....

I’m a huge modular building fan and I would never buy this set, let alone display it with my modulars. In my opinion it’s overpriced, plain and somewhat childish
This set is quite a big disappointment for me : very small rooms, low ceilings, kind of "Friends/City" look.
If you compare it to the Museum Modular : 3000 pieces instead of 4000, much smaller in height ad depth, very poor finish with low details. This is not as well executed as the Sanctum Sanctorum, wich looks nice in a modular City. This one will look weird near Modulars, I bet it !
I am not keen on the 97 series, I prefer the movies, so the minifig selction looks a bit weird to me, though aficionados will love it for sure.
Let's not talk about the price, which is not justified even with the licence. This set will go on sale as soon as it is not exclusive anymore. Even at less than 200€ I will not buy it.

Not a fan of this at all and won’t be buying. It looks very basic in design to me and the scale wrong. Imagine that next to other Modular’s, it’ll look weird.

Actually I am really disappointed by the minifigures.
Yeah could have included sabertooth and mystique and nightcrawler and jubilee, possibly colossus and cable
It looks very generic to me. It just looks like they reworked the modular museum from last year. Boring!!
