Not only did Shackleton keep his crew's morale up in person, but those left behind on Elephant Island never lost faith that he would come back for them. Several left instructions that when they died, they were to be buried next to him on South Georgia Island.
I hope between this and the Titanic we continue to get these interesting ships and vehicle kits. I don't have time to build "traditional" plastic kits, or wood ones, but a Lego kit scratches that same itch and make amazing display pieces.
Can you PLEASE… for the love of all mighty Bricks…. do more of these history lessons? This was incredibly captivating to listen to and also super informative and fun at the same time! I have never heard the story before but because I now know about it I not only need the ship but also the GWP that goes perfectly with it. Dammit! We need a HistoryFanatics-Channel 😁
My partner is a hardcore fan of Arctic and Antartic journeys, having read tens of books. This is a first minute buy for me. Haven't been so excited for Christmas in a while, she has no idea what's in stock 😄
Yeah I’m really glad they’re making stuff like this, we need more ships and planes. I would love an SR-71 Blackbird but that’s military so probably not but fingers crossed
I appreciate the “history lesson”! Knowing the history makes me want to get this and display it proudly vs the tragic Titanic. I knew nothing about it before watching your video. So… very helpful! Thanks!
I never bought the Titanic, because it feels too ghoulish having such a monument to tragedy in my home. But I am definitely getting the Endurance. It is an amazing symbol of discipline, hope, teamwork and courage. It's going right alongside my Pirates of Buccaneers'' Bay ship (in ship, not shipwreck form), Pirates of the Caribbean Ghost Ship, Ninjago Movie Junk (a great fav!) and Imperial Flagship on top of my Swarovski display cabinets.
I see the titanic set as more of a monument to the amazing feat of engineering the Titanic was, hence the scale and detail of it, with the boxes being printed with blueprints of it and everything.
@brick_fanatics understandebly so. I thought, after years of huge sets, the leaning tower of pizza in the Jazz Club Modular was a notch to this years icon. This set seems cool tho. But it wont make the final cut for me
@@brick_fanaticswell it actually wasn’t the Concordes fault, a Continental DC-10 left a piece of metal in the runway which popped a tire in the Concorde and blew up the engine causing it to crash. The only other “Crashes” were from a different Russian copy called the TU-204 (I think) which devastated its reputation. Always the Russians man…
Leaving a comment for the algorithm because this video deserves it. Great sense of humour, history and informative on the product! You've earnt a subscriber and sold me on the Endurance. Tally-ho!
"Gateway drug lego sets" FACTS, the lego Concorde brought me back into lego after 10 years, now I cant seem to find enough space to display everything lol
This is a set I will be buying. I love ships especially the ones from the early 1900s. The fact that they are making ship sets based on real ships just makes it even better. The one thing I’ve dreamed LEGO would do forever and now it’s happening.
Thanks for the review. I appreciate all the authentic pics and film of the Endurance. (Part of the incredible survival story as well as all the men surviving is that the GLASS negatives and film survived.)
Excited to hear this. Endurance is a great story of courage in adversity. Her crew lived up to her name. Apollo 13 was an interesting reference. Also RIP Mrs Chippy - the ship’s cat - who also did not survive.
This is the first expensive lego set I will ever buy, the second the rumour came out I knew I'd buy it, the endurance and the story was my favourite thing growing up, I am so absurdly excited for this
Thank you very much for this new video. And thanks for the additional details on Shackleton’s adventures. For sure, i had decided to get it on day 1, especially with that GWP !
I hope we get a HMS Beagle ship to go along with this. They need to make a British ship that didn't hit an iceberg. Wait, I actually don't know if the Beagle has hit an iceberg or not.
Oooh the Beagle is a great shout! Most suggestions I’ve seen have been warships, which are an almost definite NO from LEGO so the beagle is actually a pretty realistic suggestion
Thank you for this fantastic video. I enjoyed very much being given the historical context in this way. Your channel is dear and special for this kind of content and I just want you to know how much appreciated it is. Greetings from Germany!
Hmm, not really my thing. I much prefer my own minifig scale, 2700+ piece LRPS Bricktannic! She’s got four pretty funnels, striped in red, white, and blue, a dining hall, first and second class cabins, two bathrooms, a mail and baggage room, and a single ended, single furnace, coal-fired marine boiler with twin single-piston engines. Did I mention how pretty she is? Oh, and she has her own dedicated coaling barge, Jason, the number 2 LRTS Coal coaling barge. Rockatoa, Brickticks out!
I love this model, and that was a very enthusiastic and detailed review. Thanks. For those with an interest in Shackleton, I can recommend the map of South Georgia published by the British Antarctic Survey, which includes a large-scale section detailing his crossing of the island to seek help to rescue his crew who were waiting back on Elephant Island.
Really hope this trend of big sets inspired by real boats leads us to a 5003 Icebreaker Shirase Lego set. Not only because it's a beautiful orange boat with a great history behind it and it's predecessors, but also because I'm obsessed with the 2018 anime that heavily featured it.
That story was amazing. Really inspiring. I wish people got along like that nowadays. I’m from the UK and Nineteen so I didn’t learn about this at school/secondary school. I’d probably hate this story if it was part of my curriculum lol.
i used to work at a model ship museum that had many ships that are in a similar scale as this Endurance, and i think she would fit right in with them, though this would be a day one purchase to get the GWP with it, i already made my decision months ago that i would go for Notre Dame
Looks great and history lesson is good... I knew that much I built a LEGO endurance with my son when he was in Year R or 1... We aren't far from the Scott Polar Museum - so they had a school trip to see the exhibition up there... definitely one to add to my ship collection (but no Pirates just a junk and the Constellation) As for your comments about Kallax - take out the uprights on the top row - take out either the middle upright or the other two uprights in the middle row - perfect for displaying then. Just can't do tall sets - but those sit on top [I don't display on the bottom two rows - have a pup in the house so use that for storage of loose bricks and instructions!] There is one set which was built for Kallax though - Gringotts - the bottom part fits precisely in a Kallax cube!
Thank for the explanation about the history of this ship, I honestly never heard about it and it was never thought us in school Anyway it looks beautiful and for sure there are many people that will want to add a sail ship to their collection
I think it’s pretty cool now it’s somewhat in minifigure scale, adds some play value or display with full on crew for those who want that, I hope it’s priced well cause its either getting this or the western riverboats whenever that comes out
Here’s every other set I think has connections to a real life incident/disaster: Concorde (crashed once due to DC-10) 7893 (resembles 707 which crashed multiple times) 7894 (resembles MD80 which also crashed multiple times) Saturn V (Apollo 13 disaster + maybe Apollo 1)
Now I just want to see LEGO make the Batavia ship for me its just such a nice ship its not a frigate but still I have been to the replica twice walking its decks and its story it would fit with the shipwreck theme.
Interesting connection to the Apallo program. Not only has there been a crater on the moon named after Shackleton but it’s been theorized that it may contain water ice deposits
“For scientific discovery give me Scott; for speed and efficiency of travel give me Amundsen; but when disaster strikes and all hope is gone, get down on your knees and pray for Shackleton.” Raymond Priestley, Antarctic explorer

I hoped the Endurance will turn out a bit more... realistic. As is, not bad at all... but not quite as fantastic as I hoped for. And now I'm on the fence about getting it. I really hope that after the recent AC75 America's Cup Technic set, Lego perhaps explores the sailing yachts more. Something like the original America that became the namesake of the regatta or perhaps J-class Endeavour.
Honestly, I think Lego should make more things like this in remembrance of forgotten history/disasters. I know it may be controversial but I always thought Lego should make a set based on the Twin Towers just because of how historical and iconic the buildings are. Like the Titanic, even though it’s a devastating event it is important to history. Let me know what you think about this
I did a model i put up on lego ideas that was of The Terror/The Erubus that was featured in the show "The Terror". They all died, and the show was a major influence so lego initially blocked my model. I had to appeal to them because they just didnt understand the history behind them before any fictional account. Actual hero explorers that circumnavigated the south pole prior to the Franklin expedition that got them killed. Unfortunately the model wasnt accepted due to some heavy handed judgement over another model i made.

Lego should do a "historical ships" range theyve done the titanic now they could do mauretania, britannic, olympic, lusitania, queen mary, QM2, Atlantic, Fatherland
It's a cool looking ship, but like many probably, I'm just looking for a minifigure scale ship most of all. The history and background of it is very interesting, but that doesn't appeal to me too much. In that aspect, it is quite similar to the Titanic. It is cool to see displayed at the Lego store, but I would never buy it. I don't even have the room to put it anywhere.
Good question: I find Kallax is too restrictive because the LEGO is boxed in on all sides except one. It means that 1) it's not easy to actually see the LEGO, 2) many sets just don't fit in the Kallax cubbies and 3) you can't display sets next to each other, such as with modulars. Instead eventually I'll be looking to replace my Kallax units with wide shelves to try and fix these problems. That said, there is a big advantage to the mighty Kallax that I think is a big driver behind so many people using them: they're cheap! Less money spent on shelving means more money to spend on LEGO!
Absolutely loved this video! The historical aspect makes this set even better.
