I followed this and burned multiple different dvds and it wouldnt boot, it had the little colour flashing bits but it wouldnt work, so if youre in this situation try changing your consoles language to english after i did that it started working perfectly fine. Thank you for the tutorial lad.

Cool video, as a former pirate I don't recommend playing burned discs mostly because it will wear your laser out faster than an original disc, and it can also damage your laser

Yeah it’s so annoying honestly. I’ve always wanted something to JUST WORK. But I suppose with how old the ps2 is becoming, its laser just isn’t doing too well. Quality of disc matters once that laser starts running on fumes. Sad days

Hello what about making multi discs or a menu to select games I have dual layer discs and wondering about using all the storage on the disc instead of having extra space.
@@bigbank7350 unfortunately essentially turns the disc into a ps1/2 disc and whatever memory wasn’t used, is gone. That would be amazing if it worked that way tho honestly!

Didn't work :(. Maybe the DVD is the issue because it's not reading it at all like no red cubes or loading. Just opens the browser menu
@@cy4n_knight_q8 I’m sorry it didn’t work. When this fails, it’s really only ever one of two things (or maybe both!): bad ps2 laser or bad disk. This will always work simply bc the ps2 will never get updates and stuff like that. I’m always willing to help, nonetheless!
IT uses the fact that the PS2 plays burned DVD-Videos.
The ISO File of the Game is hidden inside a VIDEO TS Folder!!

I wanted to ask you a question but something tells me you'll take a while to see this message.
Is it possible to use this method with CD-R to burn PS1 games?
I mean, turning the .Bin file into an ISO and then patch it with the software you provided?
I have no problem with PS2 games other than sometimes the game is unreadable like the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 I tried once. But the rest of my 25 DVD pack were burned successfully and are fully playable!
So unfortunately the only way to play burned ps1 games is with FREEMCBOOT and the other ps1 specific methods. However, I’m working on a video that may make it possible. A lot has happened in the ps1/2 mod scene since I made this video! So my best advice is possibly just hold on tight. I’m a bit slow with getting videos out due to lack of free time but it should be a few days hopefully!

I wish my PS2 Slim worked with my FreeMCBoot card.. ordered it just to realize it only works on the FAT model. Rip my money, but oh well, you live and you learn :)
@@diogodomingos5537 well the good news is FMB works for even the slim PS2s, except the 90k models! And even then, there’s a way to get uLaunchElf to work on the 90k models (w/ FreeDVDBoot). Modding has come a long way! And I’m more than willing to help you in any way possible!

Ps1 games are Mpeg 1 n 2 so if you burn them as a Super VCD they should work.
Hi, I just tried this with ape escape 2 and adventures of cookie and cream, and it doesn't load unfortunately, is there something that I'm missing? Do I have to mod the memory card or have any software on the ps2? I figured I could just do this with only burning the discs, but maybe I misunderstood
it should 100% work by simply burning the disc. no mods needed whatsoever. when you put the disc in, are there any flashing colors on the screen or does it just go to the red "insert ps2 disc" screen, or just black?
@@ImJecht I just put the disc in and it says "The disc could not be read." I know it can actually read discs though since I tested my copy of sly cooper and it ran fine

@@ExquisiteTaco the annoying thing is that it could be multiple things. The most common problem is see is a tie between a dirty or worn ps2 laser. The ps2s laser needs to be solid bc it works harder to read burned discs as opposed to official ps1/2 discs. The other could be the quality of disc. I couldn’t get this to work with my Sony DVDs so I had to buy better quality ones and it finally did work. Those often are the cause (it’s annoying I know, I’m sorry). I had a ps2 slim that wouldn’t read the disc and another that would. Simply due to a more worn laser. I’m more than willing to help you troubleshoot tho. And also you’re welcome!

I just got a black ps2 slim, you think this will be okay for model SCPH-90001? I came across this video and I can't believe how you can just burn a game to a disc and play it??? its mind blowing!!!. I have a few more questions, are you able to save your progress from the burned dvd to a normal ps2 memory card? And what kind of disc are you using?? Sorry this is just too crazy 😂😂😂
That’s the model I used in my video! Which is wild bc the 90k models struggled to do cool stuff for so long. But yeah that’s 100% all you do. I was blown away when I realized so little was documented about it online. Which is why I made my video! But yeah that’s it. Granted. Some people have said they didn’t get it to work. It can be a bad ps2 laser or a low quality disc. It didn’t work for me till I used a brand of disc called “Taiyo Yuden”. Which I didn’t even know existed till this but apparently it’s like mega high quality. Good luck! But that’s 100% all there is to it

I bought Smartbuy brand professional DVD-R discs from amazon and used an external dvd drive to burn because my laptop didnt have a dvd/cd reader. I burned the iso into the disc with Imgburn at 2x speed after patching them with ESR. My first game was conflict vietnam. I really had my doubts that it would work but once I put the disc into my ps2 slim and started it, it loaded into the game. I was shocked. I also did it for 3 more games, no errors whatsoever, booted on the first try, had no trouble saving the progress of all games to my 8mb memory card either. This is truly the holy grail of modding.

For some reason my games load the menu screen then fade to black screen and nothing happens after that.
Aliexpress has some resident evil game boot copies for ps2, cpuld i just freemcboot it to work? Or do i have to modchip those
Absolutely. This is just a way of not having to use freemcboot but it’s def possible WITH it too
Quick question I got dvd+ r instead of - r and there not working too read any reason too why?
as far as i know, the quality of the disc, as well as the burn, is all that matters. dvd-r is older and dvd+r is simply just a newer, more updated version of dvd-r. bc of this, dvd-r IS prone to having more issues.
I just got dev mode for my series s it's easyr that way and I just emulate them moslty now I did get - discs instead I returned the other ones and they worked fine

i burn diferent games all good but at some point the game stops loading some parts of the games, like GoW, the maps got stuck or it gives black screen when i pause
from my experience, the only thing that determines whether a game will work well, is the quality of the disc or the quality of the burn. i know its a very vanilla response and can be annoying, but it cant be expressed enough. i hate how finnicky things can be in that case ugh im sorry

Unfortunately not. Bc ps2 games (aside from the blue layered discs) use DVD. For those CD based ps2 games, you have to convert them to DVD then burn. I THINK I mentioned that. But taking a CD based aka PS1 game, not sure! It’s likely to not work but that’s an assumption. I linked a tutorial for converting CD based PS2 games to dvd. Could work? I haven’t tried! I’m glad you got the ps2 games to work tho!

Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves are all compatible! says the list :P

I tried to burn wipeout fusions EU but it’s just a black screen and I’m out of discs to try again. Is it just the patcher being glitchy or it’s just screwed up the burn?

@@evanknight8572 the reality is that it could be a few things. Bad PS2 laser, bad discs, bad burns. If you could specify the disc brand and the model # should be viewable on the ps2 powered on. I believe at the home page thing, you hit triangle and should show model

So the rule of thumb for this, I’ve discovered, is that the ps2s laser just gets worse over time. As it does this, the quality of disc required for this goes up! This is why a lot of times, ps2s struggle to read blue backed ps2 discs. Over time, the disc quality got better! This was also the case with my console. I burned the disc and popped it into my console (90k ps2 slim) and got a black screen. Shit is annoying. I wish it worked right out the box but unfortunately there’s just more nuance to it. So I bought better quality discs and then it worked. Had a sigh of relief and never looked back.
Definitely always make sure your TEST game is on the compatibility list. It’s great for establishing a baseline, to ensure you’ve done the process correctly & that the discs/console you have is working correctly.
I wish it wasn’t such a “hope this works” thing but the reality is the quality of disc does matter and the weaker your ps2’s laser is, the higher the disc quality will need to be.
Does it work on PS2 Fat Model without any problems if you play DVD-R Games?
Unfortunately I don’t think this works on the FAT models yet :(

i personally have no clue. but based on some factors, it may have something to do with: the ps2 isnt seeing the game as a ps2 disc, its being presented as a dvd. thats sort of the whole basis of why it works. youre basically tricking the ps2 into thinking youre playing a dvd. so from there, not sure haha

Sadly, no. PS2 games are DVDs and the early ps2 games that are CD, I think, it’s hit or miss. I don’t know a lot about CD based PS2 games but found this: gbatemp.net/threads/burning-ps2-games-to-cd.392995/
It keeps telling me it cannot read the disk. But it reads normal ps2 games just fine.
I ran into this problem myself. I think I mentioned it in the video, I think. It’s why I ended up buying the discs I bought. Over time, the ps2s laser weakens.
It’s either the lens on the ps2 is weak OR the disc isn’t a good quality OR some variation of that. The worst the condition of the laser reader lens (thing? Haha), the better quality the disc should be.
For the record. As I said, this was my issue. It’s annoying. But buying the other discs made it work for me. Not something somebody wants to hear, I know :| I’m just saying, it was my issue.

I haven’t tried it on anything but a NA console but I’m pretty sure it does bypass all region locks. They have it now to where you can change your ps2s BIOS to a debug console fairly easily too, which allows you to natively play any region as well

So the Konsole means to start the Videoplayer but switches to the Game.

Really great vid. The only thing thoe is I’ve burned two games games silent hill 2 and revenge of the sith. For some reason the menu screens for both games show and then the games cut to black and I am unable to play them at all. I am using a slim ps2 and burning on DVD+R DL disk. I am not sure if that’s the problem or not?

So I had the idea to do this with a double layer disc for God of War. I patched the ISO with Toxic DL then patched it with the ESR. After that I used ImgBurn to write the ISO to the disc (DVD+R DL) at 4x speed. It didn't work for me. I've got the 3.10 U ps2. I've got some of those Yuden DVD-Rs coming tomorrow and hope the regular ESR patch alone works for games that are under the 4.7gb limit.

so actually i found out that they have .iso's of the GOW games with the FMVs cut out and stuff, to make it burnable to a regular dvd5 disc! i couldnt believe it haha
