Giving this tut a go this weekend. Got a $30 30xxx of eBay. The OPL 10th anni is gorgeous. Hopefully I can get it stacked and running well to play more Silent Hill.
Thanks so much mate this was the only guide that worked for me. It used to work with me on USB/External Drives but nothing worked from a HDD with the use of popstarter.
Yea I’m having the same issues, I follow step by step and when I turn off the ps2 to add game on the usb when I turn it back on everything I put on the hdd is gone and it no longer detects the hdd, I have to pull the hdd and reformat on winhip then put in back in, it detects it so I format on the ps2 and create the partitions then when I turn it off it wipes the hdd. I have tried with 3 different hdd, a 2.5 ssd and a 3.5 hdd
Yeah I don’t know why I keep trying I’m too stubborn. Trying to get PS1 games to show up on OPL is the most annoying thing I dealt with in some time and I have a little bit of experience in modding. Ima just get a PS Classic and mod that screw this Im already fed up with trying to troubleshoot this nonsense. I laughed a little at the end when you said it’s not so cut and dry like people on TH-cam make it out to be…..yeah I felt that lol.
I’m the same. I won’t accept defeat. I modded a ps classic and that worked for a bit, then decided it didn’t want to be modded 🤷🏼♂️. I’m cursed for sure 😂
@@classicfromtheattic Yeah same story I modded one previously but I went overboard doing all kinds of stuff to it but I get one now it’ll strictly be just PS1 games
@classicfromtheattic looks like you can't after research I did. I got stuck in Fear Effect and didn't know how to swap lol. I had to download Duckstation. You can swap on that.
Unfortunately, I followed this process and cannot see the PSX games in the menu on the HDD using OPL. I am not sure what the problem is. I can see the files installed just not in the games HDD menu to play. Haven't tried PS2 games just yet, wanted to get the PS1 games finished first. I am wondering if the Nameing format is invalid because i noticed you copied them as (SLUS...) where-as I just called them the games name IE: Tomb Raider.VCD
@@classicfromtheattic I have researched all the file downloads & agree that I think you are missing a file in your download folders, but think you got them in the video.
That sounds like the problem I had. I remember having to find the correct SLES/SLUS codes for them to show up. I’m hoping to get a chance to tonight or tomorrow to update the folders.
would windows recognize the HDD so I can transfer the ps1 games directly on windows from my files or something like you did with the ps2 games? I have 160 games to copy and it's going to be a hassle LMAO
No it won’t recognise it. It would want you to format the drive. HDL batch installer will read the drive, but I don’t think it allows extraction of ps1 games, only ps2.
You could possibly try going into hdd manager and create the new folders in there, but I’m not sure if it will work. It’s worth a try, but not something I’ve yet tried.
Be mindful that the official build of opl (the latest one) does not support this format of ps1 partitions. 1.20 beta daily build is the latest version that supports ps1 and the format of partion.
Yeah it’s a pain in the ass there’s no support for ps1. That’s why I’ve used an old version. I struggled to find the latest compatible build, so I stuck with this one. There’s too many versions to pickle my brain out there.
@classicfromtheattic doesn't have exfat support but I have no issues with ps1 support. Ps3 jailbroken is probably the best way to experience ps1 games. They work on all models of ps3s
I think the phat model is best because you can install the hdd with ease. The slim was more expensive to mod with a hdd, and the parts are harder to come by to do it.
Don't you have to have a very specific version of OPL that supports PS1? BUT isn't it also very buggy? MAN I wish someone would just make an updated one that still supported PS1 games.
Yeah it’s a bit daft. Half the reason for modding that system is for ps1 gameplay. It can be very buggy. And you have to get everything down to the letter (literally) to get them to work.
Hey man, thanks for the Tutorial. I have a Problem and i hope u can help me: I did every Step on your Video and OPL displays my PSX Games but when i wanna start a Game, the Screen stays Black and after a while uLaunch starts. PS2 Games are working correctly but PSX Games dont. Any ideas ? Thank you for your time :)
They do seem to be a little fussy on the psx side. I’m assuming the bin and cue files have been converted to vcd format, and all the files have been located to the correct folders? My first thought is to go into ulaunch/file browser/hdd/__pops and check that your game is labelled correctly. Eg; SCES_000.04.ridge racer. I found most of my games didn’t work either because of the incorrect name, or it was a bad rip to begin with. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the fast reply! Yes, i did everything correctly, from the VCD formating til the correct Name of a Game like „SLUS_004.02.Tekken 3.VCD“ and i placed every Data and every File to the correct Location. The PSX Games are displayed correctly, Even with all ARTs but the wont start x.x
And all files are from the Mega site? I recently updated them, as some went missing. If they are all present on your hdd then I’d try another iso. Are they all doing the same?
i got my ps2 games to show up but whenever i try to load them it shows ps2 logo then just dosent load, and when i take out the MCboot memory card and try to load opl just dosent load, ive done all the steps correctly....
I had this with a few games. It was down to a bad rom. I swapped it for another one from a different source and it worked. I also found that some wouldn’t work at all. I’m not to sure if it was another bad rom, or the software didn’t like it.
Not to sound ungrateful, but why do these mods always require the user to do so many manual steps? Why do you have to create the directories on the USB drive yourself and manually copy the required files to the proper locations? Why isn't there simply an archive that you can unpack to the USB that already has everything you need in the proper locations? And why is the setup on the PS2 also so complicated? Why hasn't anyone put an option into Free McBoot labeled "Auto Setup" that when you select it, automatically performs all the steps required to prep the hard drive and copy over what you need? OK, you need to set a few options, like the partition size, but it could stop and ask you that, then continue on. It's like going back to the days of DOS games where you had to mess around with system files just to get the games to run. I once watched a tutorial for soft-modding a Wii, and there were like 10-20 steps you had to go through.
I agree it’s very primitive, but it is an old system. I packed the files into folders to download from Mega, yet there’s still a process of offloading them. To some this process is part of the fun, but to others (including myself) it can become tedious. Plus this isn’t official Sony software and there are many routes to take and other extra mods to add if required. If it were a modern system and official upgrades then I’m sure it would be a case of pressing a button. But until then we’ll just have to struggle.
No bro i tried too and my ps1 game is working even my hdd already have ps2 games working but wanna add some ps1 games too, there is only problem in graphic too much glitch in bottom while playing Tekken 3
